Indirect traumatic optic neuropathy显示文摘Indirect traumatic optic neuropathy(ITON) refers to optic nerve injury resulting from impact remote to the optic nerve. The mechanism of injury is not understood, and there are no confirmed protocols for prevention, mitigation or treatment. Most data concerning this condition comes from case series of civilian patients suffering blunt injury, such as from sports- or motor vehicle-related concussion, rather than military-related ballistic or blast damage. Research in this field will likely require the development of robust databases to identify patients with ITON and follow related outcomes, in addition to both in-vivo animal and virtual human models to study the mechanisms of damage and potential therapies. | Eric L.Singman Nitin Daphalapurkar Helen White Thao D.Nguyen Lijo Panghat Jessica Chang Timothy McCulley | 2016 | Journal of Medical Colleges of PLA(China)2016,31,2: | 3
Insecticide toxicity associated with detoxification enzymes and genes related to transcription of cuticular melanization among color morphs of Asian citrus psyllid显示文摘The Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri Kuwayama) is known to exhibit abdominal color polymorphisms. In the current study, susceptibility to four insecticides was compared among orange/yellow, blue/green and gray/brown color morphs of field collected D. citri. The LD50 values and 95% fiducial limits were quantified for each insecticide and color morph combination and ranged between 0.10 ng/μL (0.06-0.10) and 6.16 ng//μL (3.30-12.50). Second, we measured the detoxification enzyme activity levels of orange/yellow, blue/green and gray/brown color morphs for cytochrome P450, glutathione 'S-transferase, and general esterase. The mean P450 activity (equivalent units) was significantly lower in gray/brown (0.152 ± 0.006) and blue/green morphs (0.149 ± 0.005) than in the orange/yellow morphs (0.179 ± 0.008). GST activity (/imol/min/mg protein) was significantly lower in the orange/yellow morph (299.70 ± 1.24) than gray/brown (350.86 ± 1.19) and blue/green (412.25 ±1.37) morphs. The mean EST activity (/xmol/min/mg protein) was significantly higher in blue/green (416.72±5.12) and gray/brown morphs (362.19 ± 4.69) than in the orange/yellow morphs (282.56 ± 2.93). Additionally, we analyzed the relative expression of assortment genes involved in cuticular melanization and basal immunity. The transcripts of Dopa Decarboxylase and Tyrosine Hydroxylase were expressed higher in blue/green and gray/brown than orange/yellow morphs. The transcription results paralleled the susceptibility of D.citri to organophosphate, neonicotinoid and pyrethroid insecticides. GST and EST activity may also be correlated with low levels of insecticide susceptibility. Cuticular melanization could be a factor for the development of resistance to insecticides among different color morphs. | Xue Dong Chen Torrence A. | 5 | Discovery of tanshinone derivatives with anti-MRSA activity via targeted bio-transformation显示文摘Two potent anti-MRSA tanshinone glycosides(1 and 2)were discovered by targeted microbial biotransformation, along with rapid identification via MS/MS networking.Serial reactions including dehydrogenation, demethylations, reduction, glycosylation and methylation have been observed after incubation of tanshinone IIA and fungus Mucor rouxianus AS 3.3447.In addition, tanshinosides B(2)showed potent activities against serial clinical isolates of oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus with MIC values of 0.78 mg/mL.This is the first study that shows a significant increase in the level and activities of tanshinone glycosides relative to the substrate tanshinone IIA. | Wenni He Miaomiao Liu Pei Huang Wael M.Abdel-Mageed Jianying Han Jeramie D.Watrous Don D.Nguyen Wenzhao Wang Fuhang Song Huanqin Dai Jingyu Zhang Ronald J.Quinn Tanja Grkovi Houwei Luo Lixin Zhang Xueting Liu | 2016 | Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2016,1,3: | 1
Influence of deviatoric stress on rockburst occurrence:An experimental study显示文摘As mining delves deeper into the crust, it is necessary to investigate the complex rock responses associated with higher stress gradients. Therefore, it is essential to better understand the mechanisms associated with the rockburst phenomenon. However, due to the large-scale and difficult monitoring of real mining excavations, laboratory scale tests must be utilised to determine the conditions conducive to burst. To this end, this research focuses on the implementation of a new rockburst testing apparatus to replicate the stress conditions of a rock mass excavation at the time of bursting. This apparatus allows the determination of rockburst stresses and a relationship between deviatoric stress and in-situ pressure/depth. Using this relationship it is then possible to estimate the standardised stress levels for a certain rock type which might lead to rockburst occurrence. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that with increasing in-situ pressure, the likelihood(measured as a lower differential stress) and the extent(indicated by the increasing range of deviatoric stress) of rockburst increases. These findings provide valuable information about the conditions necessary for bursting in deep mining. | Thomas Bruning Murat Karakus Selahattin Akdag Giang D.Nguyen David Goodchild | 2018 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2018,28,5: | 1
Evaluation of the propensity of strain burst in brittle granite based on post-peak energy analysis显示文摘The increasing demand for resources and depletion of near ground mineral resources caused deeper mining operations under highstress rock mass conditions. As a result of this, strain burst, which is the sudden release of stored strain energy in the surrounding rock mass, has become more prevalent and created a considerable threat to workers and construction equipment. It is,therefore, imperative to understand how strain burst mechanism and stored excess strain energy are affected due to the high confinement in deep underground conditions. For this purpose,post-peak energy distributions for brittle rocks were investigated using a newly developed energy calculation method associated with acoustic emission(AE).A series of quasi-static uniaxial and triaxial compression tests controlled by the circumferential expansion were conducted.Snap-back behaviour known as Class-II behaviour associated with energy evolution and the material response under self-sustaining failure were analysed on granites under a wide range of confining pressures(0–60 MPa).The experimental results underline that the energy evolution characteristics are strongly linked to confinement.Stored elastic strain energy(dUE),energy consumed by dominating cohesion weakening(dUCW)and energy dissipated during mobilisation of frictional failure(dUFM)showed a rising trend as the confining pressure was increased. An intrinsic ejection velocity was proposed to express the propensity of strain burst that was purely determined by the excess strain energy released from Class II rock. | Selahattin Akdag Murat Karakus Giang D.Nguyen Abbas Taheri Thomas Bruning | 2021 | Underground Space2021,6,1: | 0
Advancing Wound Filling Extraction on 3D Faces:An Auto-Segmentation and Wound Face Regeneration Approach显示文摘Facial wound segmentation plays a crucial role in preoperative planning and optimizing patient outcomes in various medical applications. In this paper,we propose an efficient approach for automating 3D facial wound segmentation using a two-stream graph convolutional network. Our method leverages the Cir3D-FaIR dataset and addresses the challenge of data imbalance through extensive experimentation with different loss functions. To achieve accurate segmentation,we conducted thorough experiments and selected a high-performing model from the trainedmodels. The selectedmodel demonstrates exceptional segmentation performance for complex 3D facial wounds.Furthermore, based on the segmentation model,we propose an improved approach for extracting 3D facial wound fillers and compare it to the results of the previous study. Our method achieved a remarkable accuracy of 0.9999993% on the test suite, surpassing the performance of the previous method. From this result,we use 3D printing technology to illustrate the shape of the wound filling. The outcomes of this study have significant implications for physicians involved in preoperative planning and intervention design.By automating facial wound segmentation and improving the accuracy ofwound-filling extraction, our approach can assist in carefully assessing and optimizing interventions, leading to enhanced patient outcomes.Additionally,it contributes to advancing facial reconstruction techniques by utilizing machine learning and 3D bioprinting for printing skin tissue implants. Our source code is available at http://gffzz188fe103f8f1460asqkxocc9xqbbv6p60.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/SIMOGroup/WoundFilling3D. | Duong Q.Nguyen Thinh D.Le Phuong D.Nguyen Nga T.K.Le H.Nguyen-Xuan | 2024 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2024,139,5: | 0
一种改进的指令调节自适应控制器在无人水下航行器深度控制中的实验研究显示文摘Command governor–based adaptive control(CGAC)is a recent control strategy that has been explored as a possible candidate for the challenging task of precise maneuvering of unmanned underwater vehicles(UUVs)with parameter variations.CGAC is derived from standard model reference adaptive control(MRAC)by adding a command governor that guarantees acceptable transient performance without compromising stability and a command filter that improves the robustness against noise and time delay.Although simulation and experimental studies have shown substantial overall performance improvements of CGAC over MRAC for UUVs,it has also shown that the command filter leads to a marked reduction in initial tracking performance of CGAC.As a solution, this paper proposes the replacement of the command filter by a weight filter to improve the initial tracking performance without compromising robustness and the addition of a closed-loop state predictor to further improve the overall tracking performance. The new modified CGAC(M-CGAC)has been experimentally validated and the results indicate that it successfully mitigates the initial tracking performance reduction, significantly improves the overall tracking performance, uses less control force, and increases the robustness to noise and time delay.Thus,M-CGAC is a viable adaptive control algorithm for current and future UUV applications. | Charita D.Makavita Shantha G.Jayasinghe Hung D.Nguyen Dev Ranmuthugala | 2021 | Journal of Marine Science and Application2021,20,3: | 0
Effect of loading rate and time delay on the tangent modulus method(TMM)in coal and coal measured rocks显示文摘Non-destructive techniques of in-situ stress measurement from oriented cored rocks have great potential to be developed as a cost cost-effective and reliable alternative to the conventional overcoring and hydraulic fracturing methods. The tangent modulus method(TMM)is one such technique that can be applied to oriented cored rocks to measure in-situ stresses.Like the deformation rate analysis(DRA),the rock specimen is subjected to two cycles of uniaxial compression and the stress-tangent modulus curve for the two cycles is obtained from the stress-strain curve.A bending point in the tangent modulus curve of the first cycle is observed, separating it from the tangent modulus curve of the second cycle. The point of separation between the two curves is assumed to be the previously applied maximum stress.A number of experiments were conducted on coal and coal measured rocks(sandstone and limestone)to understand the effect of loading conditions and the time delay. The specimens were preloaded, and cyclic compressions were applied under three different modes of loading, four different strain rates, and time delays of up to one week. The bending point in the stress-tangent modulus curves occurred approximately at the applied pre-stress levels under all three loading modes, and no effect of loading rate was observed on the bending points in TMM.However,a clear effect of time delay was observed on the TMM,contradicting the DRA results. This could be due to the sensitivity of TMM and the range of its applicability, all of which need further investigation for the in-situ stress measurement. | Zulfiqar Ali Murat Karakus Giang D.Nguyen Khalid Amrouch | 2022 | International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2022,9,6: | 0
