1The Sunway TaihuLight supercomputer: system and applications显示文摘The Sunway Taihu Light supercomputer is the world's first system with a peak performance greater than 100 PFlops. In this paper, we provide a detailed introduction to the Taihu Light system. In contrast with other existing heterogeneous supercomputers, which include both CPU processors and PCIe-connected many-core accelerators(NVIDIA GPU or Intel Xeon Phi), the computing power of Taihu Light is provided by a homegrown many-core SW26010 CPU that includes both the management processing elements(MPEs)and computing processing elements(CPEs) in one chip. With 260 processing elements in one CPU, a single SW26010 provides a peak performance of over three TFlops. To alleviate the memory bandwidth bottleneck in most applications, each CPE comes with a scratch pad memory, which serves as a user-controlled cache. To support the parallelization of programs on the new many-core architecture, in addition to the basic C/C++and Fortran compilers, the system provides a customized Sunway Open ACC tool that supports the Open ACC2.0 syntax. 2A newly discovered Gigantopithecus fauna from Sanhe Cave, Chongzuo, Guangxi, South China显示文摘Among the most important faunas in the Late Cenozoic, the Gigantopithecus faunas have received a good deal of attention. The Gigantopithecus fauna recently discovered in Sanhe Cave consists of more than 80 mammal species, including cf. Hominidae, Pongo sp., Hylobates sp., Sinomastodon yangzien-sis, Stegodon preorientalis, Cervavitus fenqii, Dicoryphochoerus ultimus and Sus xiaozhu. It is the southernmost Gigantopithecus fauna found so far in China. Its geological age is estimated to be Early Pleistocene based on the fauna and stratigraphic correlation. The significant increase in the estimated body sizes of Ailuropoda, Gigantopithecus and Tapirus shows that the Sanhe fauna is middle Early Pleistocene, later than those from Wushan and Liucheng (early Early Pleistocene). Paleomagnetic dating of the fossil-bearing strata in Sanhe Cave gives an age of approximately 1.2 Ma. The fauna is characterized by tropical-subtropical forest types, including Pongo sp., Tupaia sp., Ia sp., Typhlomys intermedius, etc., and it lacks Palaearctic types. It is a typical tropical forest fauna, suggesting an en-vironment with a lush forest and a warm and humid climate. 3Astronomical tuning and magnetostratigraphy of Neogene biogenic reefs in Xisha Islands, South China Sea显示文摘Biogenic reefs are one of two major depositional types in the South China Sea, and are constructed by coral, algae and bryozoa. The West Pacific is a major area of biogenic reef development and plays a critical role in the global carbon cycle. However, the lack of geochronological studies in previous works inhibits our understanding of their contributions. Herein, we conduct a cyclostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic study on Neogene biogenic reefs using the XK–1 core that was drilled at the Shidao Island,Xisha(Paracel) Islands. The main findings of this study are:(1) the establishment of reliable magentostratigraphy for Ledong, Huangliu, Meishan and Sanya Formations;(2) the magnetic susceptibility variation can be inferred as growth index and tuned to the 405–ka long eccentricity cycle;(3) the astronomical geochronology suggests that the bottom ages for Ledong, Yinggehai, Huangliu, Meishan,and Sanya Formations are 2.2 Ma, 5.7 Ma, 10.4 Ma, 16.6 Ma, and 24.3 Ma, respectively; and (4) Earth's eccentricity and obliquity played predominant roles in biogenic reef establishment on orbital to tectonic timescales. 4The levels, sources and reactivity of volatile organic compounds in a typical urban area of Northeast China显示文摘Air concentrations of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) were continually measured at a monitoring site in Shenyang from 20 August to 16 September 2017. The average concentrations of alkanes, alkenes, aromatics and carbonyls were 28.54, 6.30, 5.59 and9.78 ppbv, respectively. Seven sources were identified by the Positive Matrix Factorization model based on the measurement data of VOCs and CO. Vehicle exhaust contributed the most(36.15%) to the total propene-equivalent concentration of the measured VOCs,followed by combustion emission(16.92%), vegetation emission and secondary formation(14.33%), solvent usage(10.59%), petrochemical industry emission(9.89%), petrol evaporation(6.28%), and liquefied petroleum gas(LPG) usage(5.84%). Vehicle exhaust, solvent usage and combustion emission were found to be the top three VOC sources for O_3 formation potential, accounting for 34.52%, 16.55% and 11.94%, respectively. The diurnal variation of the total VOCs from each source could be well explained by their emission characteristics,e.g., the two peaks of VOC concentrations from LPG usage were in line with the cooking times for breakfast and lunch. Wind rose plots of the VOCs from each source could reveal the possible distribution of the sources around the monitoring site. 5Seasonal and diurnal variations of atmospheric peroxyacetyl nitrate, peroxypropionyl nitrate, and carbon tetrachloride in Beijing显示文摘Atmospheric peroxyacetyl nitrate(PAN), peroxypropionyl nitrate(PPN), and carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) were measured from September 2010 to August 2011 in Beijing. PAN exhibited low values from mid-autumn to early spring(October to March) with monthly average concentrations ranging from 0.28 to 0.73 ppbV, and increased from early spring to summer(March to August), ranging from 1.37–3.79 ppbV. The monthly variation of PPN was similar to PAN, with low values(below detection limit to 0.18 ppbV) from mid-autumn to early spring, and a monthly maximum in September(1.14 ppbV). The monthly variation of CCl4was tightly related to the variation of temperature, exhibiting a minimum in winter(69.3 pptV) and a maximum of 180.6 pptV in summer. Due to weak solar intensity and short duration, PAN and O3showed no distinct diurnal patterns from morning to night during winter, whereas for other seasons, they both exhibited maximal values in the late afternoon(ca. 15:00 to 16:00 local time) and minimal values during early morning and midnight. Good linear correlations between PAN and PPN were found in autumn(R = 0.91), spring(R = 0.94), and summer(R = 0.81), with slopes of 0.130, 0.222, and 0.133, respectively, suggesting that anthropogenic hydrocarbons dominated the photochemical formation of PANs in Beijing. 6Terahertz metasurface zone plates with arbitrary polarizations to a fixed polarization conversion显示文摘Metasurfaces that can realize the polarization manipulation of electromagnetic waves on the sub-wavelength scale have become an emerging research field.Here,a novel strategy of combining the metasurface and Fresnel zone plate to form a metasurface zone plate is proposed to realize the conversion from nearly arbitrary polarizations to a fixed polarization.Specifically,when one polarized wave is incident on adjacent ring zones constructed by different types of meta-atoms,the transmitted waves generated by odd-numbered and even-numbered ring zones converge at the same focus and superimpose to generate a fixed polarized wave.As function demonstrations,we have designed two types of metasurface zone plates:one is a focused linear polarizer,and the other can convert nearly arbitrary polarized waves into focused circularly polarized waves.The simulated and measured results are consistent with theoretical expectations,suggesting that the proposed concept is flexible and feasible.Our work provides an alternative platform for polarization manipulation and may vigorously promote the development of polarization photonic devices.Zhen Yue Jitao Li Jie Li Chenglong Zheng Jingyu Liu Guocui Wang Hang Xu Mingyang Chen Yating Zhang Yan Zhang Jianquan Yao 2022Opto-Electronic Science2022,1,3:9
7Dynamic phase assembled terahertz metalens for reversible conversion between linear polarization and arbitrary circular polarization显示文摘If a metalens integrates the circular polarization(CP)conversion function,the focusing lens together with circular-polariz-ing lens(CPL)in traditional cameras may be replaced by a metalens.However,in terahertz(THz)band,the reported metalenses still do not obtain the perfect and strict single-handed CP,because they were constructed via Pancharatnam-Berry phase so that CP conversion contained both left-handed CP(LCP)and right-handed CP(RCP)components.In this paper,a silicon based THz metalens is constructed using dynamic phase to obtain single-handed CP conversion.Also,we can rotate the whole metalens at a certain angle to control the conversion of multi-polarization states,which can simply manipulate the focusing for incident linear polarization(LP)THz wave in three polarization conversion states,in-cluding LP without conversion,LCP and RCP.Moreover,the polarization conversion behavior is reversible,that is,the THz metalens can convert not only the LP into arbitrary single-handed CP,but also the LCP and RCP into two perpen-dicular LP,respectively.The metalens is expected to be used in advanced THz camera,as a great candidate for tradi-tional CPL and focusing lens group,and also shows potential application in polarization imaging with discriminating LCP and RCP.Jitao Li Guocui Wang Zhen Yue Jingyu Liu Jie Li Chenglong Zheng Yating Zhang Yan Zhang Jianquan Yao 2022Opto-Electronic Advances2022,5,1:9
8Experimental results and analysis of sparse microwave imaging from spaceborne radar raw data显示文摘Sparse microwave imaging is a novel radar framework aiming to bring revolutions to the microwave imaging according to the theory of sparse signal processing.As compressive sensing(CS)is introduced to synthetic aperture radar(SAR)imaging in recent years,the current SAR sparse imaging methods have shown their advantages over the traditional matched filtering methods.However,the requirement for these methods to process the compressed range data results in the increase of the hardware complexity.So the SAR sparse imaging method that directly uses the raw data is needed.This paper describes the method of SAR sparse imaging with raw data directly,presents the analysis of the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)in the echo signal by combining the traditional radar equation with the compressive sensing theory,and provides the tests on 2-D simulated SAR data.The simulation results demonstrate the validity of the SNR analysis,and the good performance of the proposed method while a large percentage of the raw data is dropped.An experiment with RadarSat-1 raw data is also carried out to show the feasibility of processing the real SAR data via the method proposed in this paper.Our method is helpful for designing new SAR systems.JIANG ChengLong ZHANG BingChen ZHANG Zhe HONG Wen WU YiRong 2012Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,8:9
9Domain structure and defects of highly ordered Bi_4Si_3O_(12) micro-crystals显示文摘Highly ordered Bi4Si3O12 micro-crystals were prepared at normal atmosphere. Phase identification of the prepared crystals was accomplished by X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Domain structure and defects were characterized by environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). XRD shows that the obtained micro-crystals are of eulytite structure with chemical formulation of Bi4Si3O12. A highly ordered growth pattern is confirmed due to the faster growth of the {124} faces than that of the {204} faces by ESEM. The growing process of the domain structure is of pollen parent and filial generation pattern. The filial generations of Bi4Si3O12 crystals are generated from the pollen parent. Cracks generate from the defect areas and propagate along the {124} faces due to their lower binding energy under a proper temperature gradient, contributing to the total transcrystalline fracture. It is confirmed that the generation and development of the voids in the crystal grains can be developed when unmatched dimensions of the two opposite faces are formed. 11Characterization of individual fly ash particles in surface snow at Urumqi Glacier No. 1, Eastern Tianshan显示文摘This research aimed to identify and characterize individual spherical fly ash particles extracted from surface snow at Urumqi Glacier No.1 (UG1), Eastern Tien Shan, central Asia. Characterization of the spherical particles (i.e. morphology, chemical composition and genesis) was obtained by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (SEM-EDX). This method enabled the characterization of submicroscopic spherical particles, which were present in very small quantities. Spherical particles and agglomerates were identified according to their morphology in five snow samples. Prevalent particle types in all samples were granular spherical particles, hollow spherical particles, irregularly shaped carbonaceous particles and agglomerates. The vast majority of spherical particles in our samples had mostly smooth and glossy surfaces, although these particles varied in diameter and elemental composition. The diameter of fly ash particles ranged from 0.76 to 16.7 m, with an average of 3.79 m (median: 3.21 m). Individual particle analyses of elemental composition showed that particles formed in combustion were mainly composed of carbon, silicon, aluminum and trace elements (e.g. Na, K, Ca, Fe). Some spherical fly ash particles contained toxic heavy metals (e.g. Pb, Cr, As, Zn), and indicated that fly ash particles acted as the main possible carriers of toxic heavy metals deposited in snow and ice of glaciers in high altitudes of central Asia. On the basis of chemical information obtained from EDX, the fly ash particles deposited in the snow could be classified into four types. Namely, Si-dominant particles, with average diameters of 3.24 m were formed by industrial coal combustion via high temperature processes in typical coal-fired heating stations and thermal power plants. Moreover, Fe-dominant particles, with average diameters of 3.82 m, and Ti-dominant spherical particles formed by lower temperature processes in foundry and iron or steel plants. In addition, C-dominant particles, with average diameters of 8.43 m, formed from unburned coal. Fe-dominant particles had larger average diameters than Sidominant particles, indicating that the former were easier to form and developed earlier in the furnace because of their differential melting points of compositional oxide. 12Far-field super-resolution ghost imaging with a deep neural network constraint显示文摘Ghost imaging(GI)facilitates image acquisition under low-light conditions by single-pixel measurements and thus has great potential in applications in various fields ranging from biomedical imaging to remote sensing.However,GI usually requires a large amount of single-pixel samplings in order to reconstruct a high-resolution image,imposing a practical limit for its applications.Here we propose a far-field super-resolution GI technique that incorporates the physical model for GI image formation into a deep neural network.The resulting hybrid neural network does not need to pre-train on any dataset,and allows the reconstruction of a far-field image with the resolution beyond the diffraction limit.Furthermore,the physical model imposes a constraint to the network output,making it effectively interpretable.We experimentally demonstrate the proposed GI technique by imaging a flying drone,and show that it outperforms some other widespread GI techniques in terms of both spatial resolution and sampling ratio.We believe that this study provides a new framework for GI,and paves a way for its practical applications.Fei Wang Chenglong Wang Mingliang Chen Wenlin Gong Yu Zhang Shensheng Han Guohai Situ 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,1:6
13Orbital-scale Asian summer monsoon variations:Paradox and exploration显示文摘The Asian summer monsoon(ASM) is a vast climate system, whose variability is critical to the livelihoods of billions of people across the Asian continent. During the past half-century, much progress has been made in understanding variations on a wide range of timescales, yet several significant issues remain unresolved. Of note are two long-standing problems concerning orbital-scale variations of the ASM.(1) Chinese loess magnetic susceptibility records show a persistent glacial-interglacial dominated ~100 kyr(thousand years) periodicity, while the cave oxygen-isotope(δ18 O) records reveal periodicity in an almost pure precession band(~20 kyr periodicity)—the 'Chinese 100 kyr problem'.(2) ASM records from the Arabian Sea and other oceans surrounding the Asian continent show a significant lag of 8–10 kyr to Northern Hemisphere summer insolation(NHSI), whereas the Asian cave δ18 O records follow NHSI without a significant lag—a discrepancy termed the 'sea-land precession-phase paradox'. How can we reconcile these differences? Recent and more refined model simulations now provide spatial patterns of rainfall and wind across the precession cycle, revealing distinct regional divergences in the ASM domain, which can well explain a large portion of the disparities between the loess, marine, and cave proxy records. Overall, we also find that the loess, marine, and cave records are indeed complementary rather than incompatible, with each record preferentially describing a certain aspect of ASM dynamics. 14A phase inversion based sponge-like polysulfonamide/SiO_2 composite separator for high performance lithium-ion batteries显示文摘In this work,a sponge-like polysulfonamide(PSA)/SiO_2 composite membrane is unprecedentedly prepared by the phase inversion method,and successfully demonstrated as a novel separator of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Compared to the commercial polypropylene(PP) separator,the sponge-like PSA/SiO_2 composite possesses better physical and electrochemical properties,such as higher porosity,ionic conductivity,thermal stability and flame retarding ability.The LiCoO_2/Li half-cells using the sponge-like composite separator demonstrate superior rate capability and cyclability over those using the commercial PP separator.Moreover,the sponge-like composite separator can ensure the normal operation of LiCoO_2/Li half-cell at an extremely high temperature of 90 °C,while the commercial PP separator cannot.All these encouraging results suggest that this phase inversion based sponge-like PSA/SiO_2 composite separator is really a promising separator for high performance LIBs.Xiao Wang Gaojie Xu Qingfu Wang Chenglong Lu Chengzhong Zong Jianjun Zhang Liping Yue Guanglei Cui 2018Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2018,26,6:6
15Nondestructive 3D Image Analysis Pipeline to Extract Rice Grain Traits Using X-Ray Computed Tomography显示文摘The traits of rice panicles play important roles in yield assessment,variety classification,rice breeding,and cultivation management.Most traditional grain phenotyping methods require threshing and thus are time-consuming and labor-intensive;moreover,these methods cannot obtain 3D grain traits.In this work,based on X-ray computed tomography,we proposed an image analysis method to extract twenty-two 3D grain traits.After 104 samples were tested,the R^(2) values between the extracted and manual measurements of the grain number and grain length were 0.980 and 0.960,respectively.We also found a high correlation between the total grain volume and weight.In addition,the extracted 3D grain traits were used to classify the rice varieties,and the support vector machine classifier had a higher recognition accuracy than the stepwise discriminant analysis and random forest classifiers.In conclusion,we developed a 3D image analysis pipeline to extract rice grain traits using X-ray computed tomography that can provide more 3D grain information and could benefit future research on rice functional genomics and rice breeding.Weijuan Hu Can Zhang Yuqiang Jiang Chenglong Huang Qian Liu Lizhong Xiong Wanneng Yang Fan Chen 2020Plant Phenomics2020,2,1:6
16The use of fire at Zhoukoudian:evidence from magnetic susceptibility and color measurements显示文摘In order to provide direct evidence for the use of fire by humans at Locality 1,Zhoukoudian,we examine the burnt and unburnt sediments of newly excavated area in Layer 4 by detailed measurements of magnetic susceptibility,color,and diffuse reflectance spectrum.Results show that the magnetic susceptibility and redness of the burnt sediments are remarkably higher than those of other areas on the same level:up to*22 times for magnetic susceptibility and*3 times for redness of those of the adjacent unburnt sediments.Fine-grained(superparamagnetic/stable single-domain)magnetite and hematite grains make dominant contributions to the distinctly high values of magnetic susceptibility and redness in the burnt sediments.Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy results show that the burnt sediments contain more hematite than those of other areas and localities 2 and 3.High-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements demonstrate that the burnt sediments have been heated above 700°C.Those changes in low-frequency magnetic susceptibility and redness are impossibly resulted from natural fires,thus most likely signaling the human activities of controlled use of fire.However,further work is needed to confirm whether or not these heat-affected sediments were produced in situ.Yan Zhang Zhengtang Guo Chenglong Deng Shuangquan Zhang Haibin Wu Chunxia Zhang Junyi Ge Deai Zhao Qin Li Yang Song Rixiang Zhu 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,10:6
17Expressions of apoptosis-related proteins in rats with focal cerebral ischemia after Angong Niuhuang sticker point application显示文摘In this study, we extracted and purified components in the Angong Niuhuang pill. Then we applied transdermal enhancers to Angong Niuhuang stickers by modern technology. The Angong Niuhuang sticker includes extracts from curcuma, berberine hydrochloride, baicalin, geniposide, borneol, and musk. Angong Niuhuang stickers at different point application doses (1.35, 2.7, and 5.4 g/kg) were administered to Dazhui (DU14), Qihai (RN6) and Mingmen (DU4). Rats in the different dose point application and acupuncture groups were continuously administered for 7 days. Then a middle cerebral artery occlusion model was prepared for simulating human cerebral ischemia. Twelve hours later, expressions of Bcl-2, Bax and p53 protein in hippocampal CA1 were detected with immunohistochemistry. The expression level of Bcl-2, an anti-apoptotic protein, significantly increased in the high-, medium- and low-dose point application groups and the acupuncture group, while the expression of the pro-apoptotic proteins, Bax and p53, significantly decreased compared with the middle cerebral artery occlusion rats; and the Bcl-2/Bax ratio was significantly increased. The difference was noticeable for the high-dose point application group, which showed statistical difference compared with the low-dose point application group and the acupuncture group. Our experimental findings indicate that point application with Angong Niuhuang stickers promotes the expression of Bcl-2, and inhibits the expressions of Bax and p53 in the hippocampal CA1 area of rats after focal cerebral ischemia. 18The origin and distribution of natural gas in the frontal uplift area of the Kuqa depression,Tarim Basin显示文摘The frontal uplift of the Kuqa depression is an important oil and gas producing area. In this study, the distribution and origin of natural gas were discussed based on natural gas components and isotope data. The main components of natural gas were hydrocarbons with relatively high contents of C2+ component. Most gases were derived from terrestrial source rocks, and some came from marine rocks. The contents of non-hydrocarbon gases were high in the central part of the frontal uplift area and low in the two terminals. The distribution of oil composition was similar to that of natural gas, which was mainly controlled by the types of source rocks. Dry coefficient and maturity of natural gas in the frontal uplift were lower than those of gas in the Kelasu tectonic belt of the Kuqa depression, which was mainly affected by the difference of tectonic movements in both areas. In the frontal uplift, the traps were formed in the early stage and could capture the early formed oil and gas, and structural adjustment was slight in later stages, so the oil and gas could be effectively preserved. 19Terahertz wavefront shaping with multi-channel polarization conversion based on all-dielectric metasurface显示文摘Polarization manipulation of electromagnetic wave or polarization multiplexed beam shaping based on metasurfaces has been reported in various frequency bands.However,it is difficult to shape the beam with multi-channel polarization conversion in a single metasurface.Here,we propose a new method for terahertz wavefront shaping with multi-channel polarization conversion via all-silicon metasurface,which is based on the linear shape birefringence effect in spatially interleaved anisotropic meta-atoms.By superimposing the eigen-and non-eigen-polarization responses of the two kinds of meta-atoms,we demonstrate the possibility for high-efficiency evolution of several typical polarization states with two independent channels for linearly polarized waves.The measured polarization conversion efficiency is higher than 70%in the range of 0.9–1.3 THz,with a peak value of 89.2%at 1.1 THz.In addition,when more other polarization states are incident,combined with the integration of sub-arrays,we can get more channels for both polarization conversion and beam shaping.Simulated and experimental results verify the feasibility of this method.The proposed method provides a new idea for the design of terahertz multi-functional metadevices.JIE LI CHENGLONG ZHENG JITAO LI GUOCUI WANG JINGYU LIU ZHEN YUE XUANRUO HAO YUE YANG FUYU LI TINGTING TANG YATING ZHANG YAN ZHANG JIANQUAN YAO 2021Photonics Research2021,9,10:5
20Early Cretaceous Palynological Assemblages of the Shuangliao Fault Depression, Songliao Basin and their Geological Implications显示文摘The pollen and spores found in the Early Cretaceous strata of two cores from the Shuangliao Fault Depression were studied systematically, and two palynological assemblages have been recognized. Assemblage Ⅰ from the Yingcheng Formation is named Paleoconiferus-Pinuspollenites; the assemblage is characterized by an extremely high content of Paleoconifer pollen. Assemblage Ⅱ from Member 1 of the Denglouku Formation is named Cicatricosisporites-Cyathidites-Pinuspollenites; the assemblage is characterized by the abundant presence of Laevigati spores, but less Paleoconifer pollen. According to the palynological data and zircon U-Pb dating, the geological age of the Yingcheng Formation is thought to be Aptian-Albian, and that of the Denglouku Formation is thought to be Early Albian. On the basis of the composition of each assemblage, we can infer that during the depositional period of the Yingcheng Formation, the paleovegetation was mainly conifer forest, the paleoclimate was consistent with the temperate climate of today, and the paleoenvironment was humid feature. During the depositional period of Member 1 of the Denglouku Formation, the paleovegetation was mainly conifer forest and shrubs, the paleoclimate was consistent with the subtropical climate of today, and the paleoenvironment was humid.
