2Size distribution and diffuse pollution impacts of PAHs in street dust in urban streams in the Yangtze River Delta显示文摘Particles of dust washed off streets by stormwater are an important pathway of polyaromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) into urban streams.This article presented a comprehensive assessment of the size distribution of PAHs in street dust particles,the potential risks of the particles in urban streams,and the sources and sinks of PAHs in the stream network.This assessment was based on measurements of 16 PAHs from the USEPA priority list in street dust particles and river sediments in Xincheng,China.The content of total PAHs ranged from 1629 to 8986 μg/kg in street dust particles,where smaller particles have a higher concentrations.Approximately 55% of the total PAHs were associated with particles less than 250 μm which accounted for 40% of the total mass of street dust.The PAH quantities increased from 2.41 to 46.86 μg/m2 in the sequence of new residential,rising through main roads,old town residential,commercial and industrial areas.The sediments in stream reaches in town were found to be sinks for street dust particle PAHs.The research findings suggested that particle size,land use and the hydrological conditions in the stream network were the factors which most influenced the total loads of PAH in the receiving water bodies.ZHAO Hongtao YIN Chengqing CHEN Meixue WANG Weidong Jefferies Chris SHAN Baoqing 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,2:17
3Insight into tribological problems of green ship and corresponding research progresses显示文摘The so-called 'green ship' is being regarded as a potential solution to the problems that the shipping industry faces, such as energy conservation and environmental protection. Some new features, such as integrated renewable energy application, biomimetic materials, and antifriction and wear resistant coating have been accepted as the typical characteristics of a green ship, but the tribology problems involved in these domains have not been precisely redefined yet. Further, the related research work is generally focused on the technology or material itself, but not on the integration of the applicable object or green ship, marine environment, and tribological systematical analysis from the viewpoint of the energy efficiency design index(EEDI) and ship energy efficiency management plan(SEEMP) improvements. Aiming at the tribology problems of the green ship, this paper reviews the research status of this issue from three specific domains, which are the tribology problems of the renewable energy system, tribological research for hull resistance reduction, and energy efficiency enhancement. Some typical tribological problems in the sail-auxiliary system are discussed, along with the solar photovoltaic system and hull drag reduction in traditional marine mechanical equipment. 5Performance of pond–wetland complexes as a preliminary processor of drinking water sources显示文摘Shijiuyang Constructed Wetland(110 hm^2) is a drinking water source treatment wetland with primary structural units of ponds and plant-bed/ditch systems. The wetland can process about 250,000 tonnes of source water in the Xincheng River every day and supplies raw water for Shijiuyang Drinking Water Plant. Daily data for 28 months indicated that the major water quality indexes of source water had been improved by one grade. The percentage increase for dissolved oxygen and the removal rates of ammonia nitrogen, iron and manganese were 73.63%, 38.86%, 35.64%, and 22.14% respectively. The treatment performance weight of ponds and plant-bed/ditch systems was roughly equal but they treated different pollutants preferentially. Most water quality indexes had better treatment efficacy with increasing temperature and inlet concentrations. These results revealed that the pond–wetland complexes exhibited strong buffering capacity for source water quality improvement. The treatment cost of Shijiuyang Drinking Water Plant was reduced by about 30.3%. Regional rainfall significantly determined the external river water levels and adversely deteriorated the inlet water quality, thus suggesting that the 'hidden' diffuse pollution in the multitudinous stream branches as well as their catchments should be the controlling emphases for river source water protection in the future. The combination of pond and plant-bed/ditch systems provides a successful paradigm for drinking water source pretreatment. 7Nitrous oxide reductase gene (nosZ) and N_2O reduction along the littoral gradient of a eutrophic freshwater lake显示文摘Lake littoral zones are characterized by heterogeneity in the biogeochemistry of nutrient elements. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the nitrous oxide reductase gene (nosZ)-encoding denitrifier community composition/abundance and N2O reduction. Five samples (deep sediment, near-transition sediment, transition site, near-transition land and land soil) were collected along a littoral gradient of eutrophic Baiyangdian Lake, North China. To investigate the relationship between the nosZ-encoding denitrifier community structure and N2O reduction, the nosZ-encoding denitrifier community composition/abundance, potential denitrification rate (DNR) and potential N2O production rate (pN2O) were investigated using molecular biological technologies and laboratory incubation experiments. The results showed that the average DNR of sediments was about 25 times higher than that of land soils, reaching 282.5 nmol N/(g dry weight (dw)·hr) and that the average pN2O of sediments was about 3.5 times higher than that of land soils, reaching 15.7 nmol N/(g dw·hr). In the land area, the nosZ gene abundance showed a negative correlation with the N2O/(N2O+N2) ratio, indicating that nosZ gene abundance dominated N2O reduction both in the surface soils of the land area and in the soil core of the transition site.Phylogenetic analysis showed that all the nosZ sequences recovered from sediment clustered closely with the isolates Azospirillum largimobile and Azospirillum irakense affiliated to Rhodospirillaceae in alpha-Proteobacteria, while about 92.3% (12/13) of the nosZ sequences recovered from land soil affiliated to Rhizobiaceae and Bradyrhizobiaceae in α-Proteobacteria. 9Numerical Analysis of Structural Progressive Collapse to Blast Loads显示文摘After the progressive collapse of Ronan Point apartment in UK in 1968, intensive research effort had been spent on developing guidelines for design of new or strengthening the existing structures to prevent progressive collapse. However, only very few building design codes provide some rather general guidance, no detailed design requirement is given. Progressive collapse of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City and the World Trade Centre (WTC) sparked again tremendous research interest on progressive collapse of structures. Recently, US Department of Defence (DoD) and US General Service Administration (GSA) issued guidelines for structure progressive collapse analysis. These two guidelines are most commonly used, but their accuracy is not known. This paper presents numerical analysis of progressive collapse of an example frame structure to blast loads. The DoD and GSA procedures are also used to analyse the same example structure. Numerical results are compared and discussed. 10Numerical surface characterization of wear debris from artificial joints using atomic force microscopy显示文摘Study on surface features of wear particles generated in wear process provides an insight into the progress of material failure of artificial joints. It is very important to quantify the surface features of wear particles in three dimensions. In this study, a new approach using atomic force microscopy was proposed to carry out 3D numerical surface characterization of wear debris generated from artificial joints. Atomic force microscopy combined with image processing techniques was used to acquire appropriate 3D images of wear debris. Computerized image analysis techniques were then used to quantify surface texture features of wear debris such as surface roughness parameters and surface texture index. 11Numerical Simulations of the Performance of Steel Guardrails Under Vehicle Impact显示文摘Road side barriers are constructed to protect passengers and contain vehicles when a vehicle crashes into a barrier. In general, full-scale crash testing needs to be carried out if a geometrically and structurally equivalent barrier has not previously been proven to meet the requirements of containing the vehicle and dissipating sufficient impact energy for passenger protection. As full-scale crash testing is very expensive, the number of data that can be measured in a test is usually limited, and it may not always be possible to obtain good quality measurements in such a test, a reliable and efficient numerical simulation of crash testing is therefore very useful. This paper presents finite element simulations of a 3-rail steel road traffic barrier under vehicle impact. The performance levels defined in Australian Standards AS5100 Clause 10.5 for these barriers are checked. The numerical simulations show that the barrier is able to meet low performance levels. However, the maximum deceleration is higher than the acceptable limit for passenger protection. If present, a kerb launches the vehicles into the barrier, allowing for the possibility of overriding the barrier under certain circumstances, but it redirects the vehicle and reduces the incident angle, which reduces impact force on the barrier. 12Designing soft/hard double network hydrogel microsphere/UHMWPE composites to promote water lubrication performance显示文摘Several soft tissues residing in the living body have excellent hydration lubrication properties and can provide effective protection during relative motion.In order to apply this advantage of soft matters in practical applications and try to avoid its disadvantage,such as swelling and weakening in water,a design strategy of a soft/hard double network(DN)hydrogel microsphere modified ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)composite is proposed in this study.A series of microspheres of urea-formaldehyde(UF),polyacrylamide(PAAm)hydrogel,UF/PAAm double network,and their composites were prepared.The mechanical properties,swelling,wettability,friction properties,and the lubrication mechanisms of the composites were investigated.The results show that DN microspheres can have an excellent stability and provide hydration lubrication.The performance of 75 DN-1 composite was superior to others.This finding will provide a novel strategy for the development of water-lubricated materials and have wide application in engineering fields.Chaobao WANG Xiuqin BAI Conglin DONG Zhiwei GUO Chengqing YUAN Anne NEVILLE 2021Friction2021,9,3:3
13Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Unsteady Tip Leakage Flow in Axial Compressor Cascade显示文摘For convenience of both measurement and adjusting the clearance size and incidence, the current research is mainly conducted by experiments on an axial compressor linear cascade. The characteristics and the condition under which the unsteadiness of tip leakage flow would occur were investigated by dynamic measuring in different clearances, inlet velocities and incidences. From the experiment it is found that increasing tip clearance size or reducing rotor tip incidence can affect the strength of the tip clearance flow. Then the experimental results also indicate the tip leakage shows instability in certain conditions, and the frequency of unsteadiness is great influenced by inflow angle. The condition of occurrence of tip leakage flow unsteadiness is when the leakage flow is strong enough to reach the pressure side of the adjacent blade. 14Shallow groundwater nitrogen responses to different land use managements in the riparian zone of Yuqiao Reservoir in North China显示文摘This field study investigated the nitrogen concentrations in the shallow groundwater from an ephemeral stream and four land uses: cropland, two-year restored (2yr) and five-years restored (5yr) woodlands, fishponds, and the nitrogen flux in the riparian zone of Yuqiao Reservoir. The groundwater nitrate-N concentrations in cropland were the highest among the four land uses. Total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) and nitrate-N concentrations in the 2yr woodland were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than in 5yr woodland. The lowest nitrogen concentrations were detected in fishponds. Nitrate-N was the main form in cropland and 2yr woodland, whereas both nitrate-N and dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) were the main species in 5yr woodland and fishponds. But, ammonium-N was the main form in the ephemeral stream. During the rainy season, the groundwater flow with dissolved nitrogen drains from upland into the reservoir along the hydraulic gradient. The woodland between the cropland and reservoir could act as a buffer to retain shallow groundwater nitrogen. The dominant form of ammonium-N in the groundwater TDN pool in ephemeral stream indicated that nitrogen from the village and orchard in upland flowed into the reservoir via subsurface flow. 15Statistical downscaling model for late-winter rainfall over Southwest China显示文摘A statistical downscaling model is built for the late-winter rainfall over Southwest China(SWC).A partial-correlation method is used for selecting factors.The results show that the selected factors for late-winter rainfall in SWC are sea level pressure in Western Europe(SNAO)and sea surface temperature in Western Pacific(WPT).SNAO is related to the southern pole of North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO)and excites Southern Eurasian teleconnection,which influences the development of the southern branch trough and the water vapor transport to SWC.WPT indicates the variability of ENSO in the tropical Western Pacific.WPT excites Pacific-East Asia teleconnection and an anticyclone(cyclone)is formed in the southern part of China and suppresses(enhances)rainfall over SWC.A regression statistical downscaling model using SNAO and WPT shows good performance in fitting the variability of late-winter rainfall in the whole SWC region and every observation station,and the model also shows strong robustness in the independent validation.The statistical model can be used for downscaling output from seasonal forecast numerical models and improve the SWC late winter rainfall prediction in the future.RUAN ChengQing LI JianPing FENG Juan 2015Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,10:2

19Clinical study on the related markers of blood coagulation in the patients with ANFH after SARS显示文摘The aim of this research was to investigate the blood coagulation function in the patients with avascular necrosis of the femoral head(ANFH)after severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS).The expression of CD31,CD61,CD62p,CD63 and PAC-1 on platelet membrane was measured respectively by flowcytometry,and the plasma prothrombin time(PT),activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT),thrombin time(TT)and fibrinogen(Fbg)were mea-sured by blood clotting instrument in 26 patients with ANFH after SARS and in 17 healthy adults.The expression of CD31,CD61,CD 62p,CD63 and PAC-1 on platelet membrane in 26 patients was all lower than that in 17 healthy subjects(P<0.01).The levels of PT,APTT,TT and Fbg in 26 patients were all normal.There is no significant difference(P>0.05)in those markers between patients and 17 healthy adults.The blood may not be in hypercoagulable state in patients with ANFH after SARS.WU Lianhua GAO Chunjin WANG Guozhong YANG Lin HOU Xiaomin GE Huan XIA Chengqing QI Man 2007Frontiers of Medicine2007,1,4:2
