6Influence of train speed and its mitigation measures in the short-and long-term performance of a ballastless transition zone显示文摘The ballastless track is nowadays the most popular railway system due to the required low number of maintenance opera-tions and costs, despite the high investment. The gradual change from ballasted to ballastless tracks has been occurring in Asia, but also in Europe, increasing the number of transition zones. The transition zones are a special area of the railway networks where there is an accelerated process of track degradation, which is a major concern of the railway infrastructure managers. Thus, the accurate prediction of the short-and long-term performance of ballastless tracks in transition zones is an important topic in the current paradigm of building/rehabilitating high-speed lines. This work purposes the development of an advanced 3D model to study the global performance of a ballastless track in an embankment-tunnel transition zone considering the influence of the train speed(220,360,500,and 600 km/h).Moreover,a mitigation measure is also adopted to reduce the stress and displacements levels of the track in the transition.A resilient mat placed in the tunnel and embank-ment aims to soften the transition. The behaviour of the track with the resilient mat is evaluated considering the influence of the train speed, with special attention regarding the critical speed. The used methodology is a novel and hybrid approach that allows including short-term and long-term performance, through the development of a powerful 3D model combined with the implementation of a calibrated empirical permanent deformation model.Ana Ramos Rui Calçada António Gomes Correia 2023Railway Engineering Science2023,31,4:0

9A discussion about the limitations of the Eurocode’s high-speed load model for railway bridges显示文摘High-speed railway bridges are subjected to normative limitations concerning maximum permissible deck accelerations. For the design of these structures, the European norm EN 1991-2 introduces the high-speed load model(HSLM)—a set of point loads intended to include the effects of existing high-speed trains.Yet,the evolution of current trains and the recent development of new load models motivate a discussion regarding the limits of validity of the HSLM.For this study,a large number of randomly generated load models of articulated, conventional, and regular trains are tested and compared with the envelope of HSLM effects. For each type of train, two sets of 100,000 load models are considered:one abiding by the limits of the EN 1991-2 and another considering wider limits. This comparison is achieved using both a bridge-independent metric(train signatures)and dynamic analyses on a case study bridge(the Canelas bridge of the Portuguese Railway Network). For the latter,a methodology to decrease the computational cost of moving loads analysis is introduced. Results show that some theoretical load models constructed within the stipulated limits of the norm can lead to effects not covered by the HSLM.This is especially noted in conventional trains, where there is a relation with larger distances between centres of adjacent vehicle bogies.Gonçalo Ferreira Pedro Montenegro JoséRui Pinto António Abel Henriques Rui Calçada 2024Railway Engineering Science2024,32,2:0
10Depicting the battle between nectarine and Monilinia laxa:the fruit developmental stage dictates the effectiveness of the host defenses and the pathogen’s infection strategies显示文摘Infections by the fungus Monilinia laxa, the main cause of brown rot in Europe, result in considerable losses of stone fruit.Herein,we present a comprehensive transcriptomic approach to unravel strategies deployed by nectarine fruit and M.laxa during their interaction. We used M.laxa-inoculated immature and mature fruit, which was resistant and susceptible to brown rot, respectively,to perform a dual RNA-Seq analysis. In immature fruit, host responses, pathogen biomass, and pathogen transcriptional activity peaked at 14–24 h post inoculation(hpi),at which point M.laxa appeared to switch its transcriptional response to either quiescence or death.Mature fruit experienced an exponential increase in host and pathogen activity beginning at 6 hpi.Functional analyses in both host and pathogen highlighted differences in stage-dependent strategies. For example,in immature fruit,M.laxa unsuccessfully employed carbohydrate-active enzymes(CAZymes)for penetration, which the fruit was able to combat with tightly regulated hormone responses and an oxidative burst that challenged the pathogen’s survival at later time points. In contrast,in mature fruit,M.laxa was more dependent on proteolytic effectors than CAZymes, and was able to invest in filamentous growth early during the interaction.Hormone analyses of mature fruit infected with M.laxa indicated that, while jasmonic acid activity was likely useful for defense, high ethylene activity may have promoted susceptibility through the induction of ripening processes.Lastly,we identified M.laxa genes that were highly induced in both quiescent and active infections and may serve as targets for control of brown rot.Marta Balsells-Llauradó Christian J.Silva Josep Usall Núria Vall-llaura Sandra Serrano-Prieto Neus Teixidó Saskia D.Mesquida-Pesci Antonieta de Cal Barbara Blanco-Ulate Rosario Torres 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:1

12Quality of public space and sustainable development goals:analysis of nine urban projects in Spanish cities显示文摘The starting point of this research is the urban model promoted by the United Nations through the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).The importance of public spaces is especially highlighted in Goal 11.7:“provide universal access to safe, inclusive, and accessible, green, and public spaces.”The quality of public spaces can be properly assessed by reconsidering the quality indicators and investigating their development potential, which is the main focus of our research. This study is based on a theoretical and methodological reflection on the quality of public space, considering the contributions of some contemporary urban traditions and a few recent experiences. From this perspective,a variety of public space projects developed in the European sphere have been selected and analyzed. The quality parameters identified in this initial analysis were then applied to the analysis of nine representative case studies in three Spanish cities(Madrid,Barcelona, and Zaragoza). The main goal is to propose a methodology that helps to evaluate the quality of those public spaces and determine its relationship with the safety, accessibility, and inclusiveness conditions they offer.Raimundo BambóNaya Pablo de la Cal Nicolás Carmen Díez Medina Isabel Ezquerra Sergio García-Pérez Javier Monclús 2023Frontiers of Architectural Research2023,12,3:0
