1BMP-IHH-mediated interplay between mesenchymal stem cells and osteoclasts supports calvarial bone homeostasis and repair显示文摘Calvarial bones are connected by fibrous sutures. These sutures provide a niche environment that includes mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), osteoblasts, and osteoclasts, which help maintain calvarial bone homeostasis and repair. Abnormal function of osteogenic cells or diminished MSCs within the cranial suture can lead to skull defects, such as craniosynostosis. Despite the important function of each of these cell types within the cranial suture, we have limited knowledge about the role that crosstalk between them may play in regulating calvarial bone homeostasis and injury repair. Here we show that suture MSCs give rise to osteoprogenitors that show active bone morphogenetic protein(BMP) signalling and depend on BMP-mediated Indian hedgehog(IHH) signalling to balance osteogenesis and osteoclastogenesis activity. IHH signalling and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand(RANKL) may function synergistically to promote the differentiation and resorption activity of osteoclasts. Loss of Bmpr1a in MSCs leads to downregulation of hedgehog(Hh) signalling and diminished cranial sutures. Significantly, activation of Hh signalling partially restores suture morphology in Bmpr1a mutant mice, suggesting the functional importance of BMP-mediated Hh signalling in regulating suture tissue homeostasis. Furthermore, there is an increased number of CD200+ cells in Bmpr1a mutant mice, which may also contribute to the inhibited osteoclast activity in the sutures of mutant mice. Finally, suture MSCs require BMPmediated Hh signalling during the repair of calvarial bone defects after injury. 2Impacts of different drying strategies on drying characteristics,the retention of bio-active ingredient and colour changes of dried Roselle显示文摘The drying kinetics of Roselle(Hibiscus sabdariffa L) of variety Terengganu(UMKL-1) and the quality attribution of Roselle were studied. The experiments were conducted using four different drying methods, including solar greenhouse drying(SD), solar greenhouse with intermittent heat pump drying(SIHP), hot air drying(HA) and heat pump drying(HP). Among the four drying methods, HP achieved the highest drying rate at a range from0.054 g H_2 O·(g DM)^(-1) ·min^(-1) to 0.212 g H_2 O·(g DM)^(-1)·min^(-1) while SD had the lowest drying rate, measured at 0.042 g H_2 O·(g DM)^(-1)·min^(-1).The analysis on colour kinetics revealed that there is no significant colour loss(p > 0.05) observed from HP's dried Roselle. 3Temporal and Spatial Variations of Abundance of Phycocyaninand Phycoerythrin-Rich Synechococcus in Pearl River Estuary and Adjacent Coastal Area显示文摘Three surveys were carried out in Pearl River Estuary and adjacent coastal area in May, August, and November, 2013, to investigate the temporal and spatial variations of abundance of phycoerythrin-rich Synechococcus(PE-rich SYN) and phycocyanin-rich Synechococcus(PC-rich SYN). The effects of environmental factors on the alternation of the different Synechococcus groups were also elucidated. PE-rich SYN was detected in three surveys, whereas PC-rich SYN was detected in May and August, but not in November. The highest abundances of PE-rich SYN and PC-rich SYN were recorded in August and May, with mean values of 74.17×103 and 189.92×103 cells m L-1, respectively. From May to November, the relative abundance of PE-rich SYN increased, whereas that of PC-rich SYN declined. PE-rich and PC-rich SYN presented similar horizontal distributions with high abundance in the southern estuary in May, and in the western estuary in August. The abundances of PE-rich and PC-rich SYN were high at 27–32℃and salinity of 10–20. PC-rich SYN was not detected at < 24℃, and PC:PE-rich SYN decreased in abundance with salinity increase. When less than 20 mg L-1, suspended particulate matter(SPM) was helpful for Synechococcus growth. PE-rich SYN decreased in abundance when the concentration of dissolved inorganic nitrogen increased in May and November, and the concentration of phosphate increased in November. However, PC-rich SYN abundance and nutrients showed no correlation. 6Identification of Gesture Based on Combination of Raw sEMG and sEMG Envelope Using Supervised Learning and Univariate Feature Selection显示文摘In this paper,we propose a novel study for gesture identification using surface electromyography(sEMG)signal,and the raw sEMG signal and the sEMG envelope signal are collected by the sensor at the same time.An efficient method of gesture identification based on the combination of two signals using supervised learning and univariate feature selection is implemented.In previous research techniques,researchers tend to use the raw sEMG signal and extract several constant features for classification,which inevitably causes a result of ignoring individual differences.Our experiment shows that both the optimal feature set and redundant feature set are not same for different subjects.In order to address this problem,we extract all the common features from two signals,up to 76 features,most of which has been established as the common EMG-based gesture index.In addition,extracting too many features in an application can reduce operational efficiency,so we apply for feature selection to get the optimal feature set and decrease the number of extracting feature.As a result,the combination of two signals is better than using a single signal.The feature selection can be used to select optimal feature set from all features to achieve the best classification performance for each subject.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves the performance with the highest accuracy of 95%for identifying up to nine gestures only using two sensors.Finally,we develop a real-time intelligent sEMG-driven bionic hand system by using the proposed method.Shili Liang Yansheng Wu Jianfei Chen Ling Zhang Peipei Chen Zongqian Chai Chunlei Cao 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,4:4
7Endoscopic trans-esophageal submucosal tunneling surgery:A new therapeutic approach for diseases located around the aorta ventralis显示文摘AIM To assess the efficiency of endoscopic trans-esophageal submucosal tunneling surgery(EESTS) technique for diseases located around the aorta ventralis.METHODS Nine pigs were assigned to EESTs. The procedures were as follows: First, a long esophageal submucosal tunnel was established. Second, full-thickness myotomy was created. Third, an endoscope was entered into the abdominal cavity through a muscle incision and the endoscope was around the aorta ventralis. Eventually,celiac trunk ganglion neurolysis, partial hepatectomy and splenectomy, partial tissue resection in the area of the posterior peritoneum, and endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) combined with lymph node dissection were performed. The animals were given antibiotics for 5 d and necropsied 7 d after surgery.RESULTS In all surgeries, one pig died from intraperitoneal hemorrhage after doing partial splenectomy, while the other pigs were alive after successfully operating other surgeries. For surgery of celiac trunk ganglion damage, at necropsy, there was no exudation in the abdominal cavity. Regarding surgery of partial hepatectomy, the wound with part healing was observed in the left hepatic lobe, and no bleeding or obvious exudation was seen. In surgery of partial splenectomy, massive hemorrhage was observed on the splenic wound surface, and the metal clips could not stop bleeding. After surgery of retroperitoneal tissue resection, mild tissue adhesion was observed in the abdominal cavity of one animal, and another one suffered from severe infection. 10Hilar inflammatory pseudotumor mimicking hilar cholangiocarcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND:Inflammatory pseudotumor of the biliary tract is a benign disease,and is extremely rare.Its diagnosis often depends on pathological examination after operation. The histopathological examination shows inflammatory lesions with a polymorphous infiltration and variable amounts of fibrous tissue.This study was undertaken to elucidate that an inflammatory pseudotumor in the right hepatic duct is especially difficult to distinguish from hilar cholangiocarcinoma. METHOD:The clinical data of one patient with inflammatory pseudotumor of the right hepatic duct were analyzed. RESULTS:An occupying lesion of the right hepatic duct was revealed by abdominal ultrasound and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography.The right hepatic duct inflammatory pseudotumor was not identified during the operation but was confirmed by postoperative histopathological analysis.The patient recovered well without any serious complication. CONCLUSIONS:The preoperative evaluation for optimizing surgical management is important to the diagnosis of hepato- biliary occupying lesions.The evaluation involves clinical manifestations,imaging appearance and tumor markers.
