| 1 | Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role in iron deficiency anemia? A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM:To perform a meta-analysis of observational studies and randomized controlled trials(RCTs)on the association between Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)and iron deficiency anemia(IDA).METHODS:A defined search strategy was used to search Medline,Embase,the Cochrane Library,Clinical Trials,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,Premedline and Healthstar.Odds ratio(OR)was used to evaluate observational epidemiology studies,and weighted mean difference(WMD)was used to demonstrate the difference between control and intervention groups.RESULTS:Fifteen observational studies and 5 RCTs were identified and used for calculation.The pooled OR for observational studies was 2.22(95%CI:1.52-3.24,P<0.0001).The WMD for hemoglobin(HB) was 4.06 g/L(95%CI:-2.57-10.69,P=0.01),and the WMD for serum ferritin(SF)was 9.47μg/L(95%CI:-0.50-19.43,P<0.0001).Results were heterogeneous for all comparisons.CONCLUSION:This meta-analysis on observational studies suggests an association between H.pylori and IDA.In RCTs,eradication of H.pylori can improve HB and SF levels but not significantly. | Qu, Xin-Hua Huang, Xiao-Lu Xiong, Ping Zhu, Cui-Ying Huang, You-Liang Lu, Lun-Gen Sun, Xu Rong, Lan Zhong, Liang Sun, Da-Yu Lin, Hai Cai, Ming-Ci Chen, Zhi-Wei Hu, Bing Wu, Lian-Ming Jiang, Yi-Bin Yan, Wei-Li | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010，16，7： | 34 |
| 2 | Denitrification Losses and N_2O Emissions from Nitrogen Fertilizer Applied to a Vegetable Field显示文摘A field experiment was conducted on Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. pekinensis (Lour.) Olsson) in a Nanjing suburb in 2003. The experiment included 4 treatments in a randomized complete block design with 3 replicates: zero chemical fertilizer N (CK); urea at rates of 300 kg N ha-1 (U300) and 600 kg N ha-1 (U600), both as basal and two topdressings; and polymer-coated urea at a rate of 180 kg N ha-1 (PCU180) as a basal application. The acetylene inhibition technique was used to measure denitrification (N2+N2O) from intact soil cores and N2O emissions in the absence of acetylene. Results showed that compared to CK total denitrification losses were significantly greater (P≤0.05) in the PCU180, U300, and U600 treatments, while N2O emissions in the U300 and U600 treatments were significantly higher (P≤0.05) than CK. In the U300 and U600 treatments peaks of denitrification and N2O emission were usually observed after N application. In the polymer-coated urea treatment (PCU180) during the period 20 to 40 days after transplanting, higher denitrification rates and N2O fluxes occurred. Compared with urea, polymer-coated urea did not show any effect on reducing denitrification losses and N2O emissions in terms of percentage of applied N. As temperature gradually decreased from transplanting to harvest, denitrification rates and N2O emissions tended to decrease. The paper highlights the relationship between coastal erosion and sea level rises, storm waves and tides, and the influence of global climate changes on coastal erosion along the coastal zone of China. The response of the risk of coastal erosion in China to climate changes has obvious regional diversity. Research into and the forecasting of the effects of climate changes on coastal erosion are systemic work involving the natural environment, social economy, and alongshore engineering projects in the global system. | 8 | Experimental study of an aircraft fuel tank inerting system显示文摘In this work, a simulated aircraft fuel tank inerting system has been successfully established based on a model tank. Experiments were conducted to investigate the influences of different operating parameters on the inerting effectiveness of the system, including flow rate of the inert gas(nitrogen-enriched air), inert gas concentration, fuel load of the tank and different inerting approaches. | 11 | Inhibition of pancreatic carcinoma cell growth in vitro by DPC4 gene transfection显示文摘AIM: To detect the expression of DPC4 in malignant and non-malignant specimens of human pancreas,and observe the inhibition of retroviral pLXSN containing DPC4 on pancreatic carcinoma cells in vitro.METHODS: The expression of DPC4 was determined in 40 pancreatic adenocarcinoma and 36 non-malignant pancreatic specimens by reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohisto-chemistry.Furthermore,we constructed retroviral vectors containing DPC4,which then infected the pancreatic carcinoma cell line BxPC-3.Cell growth in vitro after being infected was observed,and the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA level in the daughter cells was determined by semi-quantitative PCR assay.RESULTS: The RT-PCR assay showed a positive rate of DPC4 mRNA in 100% (36/36) of normal specimens,compared to 40% (16/40) in adenocarcinoma specimens.The regional and intense positive cases of DPC4 expression in adenocarcinoma detected by immunohistochemistry were 10 and four,whereas it was all positive expression in normal tissues.There was a significant difference of DPC4 expression between them.The stable expression of DPC4 in the pancreatic carcinoma cells BxPC-3 could be resumed by retroviral vector pLXSN transfection,and could inhibit cell growth in vitro.Rather,DPC4 could decrease VEGF mRNA transcription levels.CONCLUSION: The deletion of DPC4 expression in pancreatic carcinoma suggests that loss of DPC4 may be involved in the development of pancreatic carcinoma.The retroviral vector pLXSN containing DPC4 can inhibit the proliferation of pancreatic carcinoma cells,and down-regulate the level of VEGF. | Wei Shen Guo-Qing Tao Bing Cai De-Chun Li Xing-Guo Zhu Xia Bai | 2008 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2008，14，40： | 11 |
| 12 | Effect of emodin on pancreatic fi brosis in rats显示文摘AIM: To establish the rats model of chronic fibrosing pancreatitis and to prove the anti-fibrotic effect of emodin in chronic pancreatitis with fi brosis. METHODS: Fifty rats were randomly divided into five groups, 10 rats in each group. Trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) was infused into the pancreatic duct to induce chronic pancreatitis in rats (except for normal group). Emodin-treated rats were fed with different doses of emodin (20, 40 and 80 mg/kg body weight) for 28 d, while normal group and control group received 0.9% sodium chloride solution. Serum levels of hyaluronic acid (HA) and laminin (LN) were determined by radioimmunoassay. Histopathological alterations were studied by optical microscopy. Expression of collagen was also examined while transforming growth factor-beta-1 (TGF-β1) was localized by immunochemistry. RESULTS: In emodin-treated rats, the serum levels of HA and LN were decreased significantly (HA, 62.2 ± 19.3 μg/L vs 112.7 ± 26.5 μg/L, P < 0.05; LN 44.3 ± 10.4 μg/L vs 86.2 ± 16.5 μg/L, P < 0.05); the degree of fibrosis was ameliorated observably; the expression of collagen in pancreatic tissue was reduced especially in high-dose emodin-treated group (36% ± 5% vs 42% ± 6%, P < 0.05); with the increased doses of emodin, the expression of TGF-β1 was declined, compared with those in control group. CONCLUSION: Emodin has an anti-fibrotic effect on pancreatic fibrosis in rats. | 13 | A Simplified PCR-SSP Method for HLA-A2 Subtype in a Population of Wuhan,China显示文摘HLA-A2 is the most frequent HLA-A allele in all ethnic populations, and an important restriction element for peptide presentation to T cells in infectious disease and cancer. However, the HLA-A2 supertype consisting of up to 75 subtypes, mutation studies and analyses using cytotoxic T lymphocytes suggest the functional relevance of subtype-specific differences in HLA-A2 molecules for peptide binding and T-cell recognition. Therefore, it is necessary for T-cell response study to discriminate the HLA-A2 subtypes and to understand the profile of HLA-A2 allelic distribution in a given population. In this study, we developed a simple, robust approach based on the nested polymerase chain reaction using sequence-specific primers (PCR-SSP) to discriminate 17 HLA-A2 subtypes which cover the most HLA-A2 alleles (> 99% allele frequency) reported in Chinese, using 15 combinations of 19 allelic specific primers. In the first round of PCR, 3 combinations of 5 primers were used to determine whether the tested sample was HLA-A2 positive, meanwhile the subtypes of HLA-A*0209 and HLA-A*0215N were determined for the variant position of these two subtypes is in exon 4 instead of exon 2, 3. Samples of HLA-A2 positive were subtyped in the second round of PCR, using PCR products of the first round as templates. This strategy was applied to test the samples of 78 random HLA-A2 positive individuals for their HLA-A2 subtypes. Those samples were screened for HLA-A2 positive by the first round PCR-SSP from 154 healthy blood donors in Wuhan, China. The subtyping results were verified by using flow cytometric analysis (FCM) with HLA-A2 specific monoclonal antibody BB7.2 and DNA sequencing. The typing results of the samples show 50.7% random individuals in the population carry HLA-A2, HLA-A*0201 ranks the first (allele frequency = 15.5%), followed by A*0207 (5.8%), A*0206 (4.7%), A*0203 (2.6%), A*0210 (0.7%), and these 5 alleles account for 99.0% HLA-A2 subtypes of allele frequency. | 15 | GCH1 plays a role in the high-altitude adaptation of Tibetans显示文摘Tibetans are well adapted to high-altitude hypoxia. Previous genome-wide scans have reported many candidate genes for this adaptation, but only a few have been studied. Here we report on a hypoxia gene(GCH1, GTP-cyclohydrolase I), involved in maintaining nitric oxide synthetase(NOS) function and normal blood pressure, that harbors many potentially adaptive variants in Tibetans. We resequenced an 80.8 kb fragment covering the entire gene region of GCH1 in 50 unrelated Tibetans. Combined with previously published data, we demonstrated many GCH1 variants showing deep divergence between highlander Tibetans and lowlander Han Chinese. Neutrality tests confirmed a signal of positive Darwinian selection on GCH1 in Tibetans. Moreover, association analysis indicated that the Tibetan version of GCH1 was significantly associated with multiple physiological traits in Tibetans, including blood nitric oxide concentration, blood oxygen saturation, and hemoglobin concentration. | 18 | Heavy-ion and pulsed-laser single event effects in 130-nm CMOS-based thin/thick gate oxide anti-fuse PROMs显示文摘Single event effects of 1-T structure programmable read-only memory(PROM) devices fabricated with a 130-nm complementary metal oxide semiconductorbased thin/thick gate oxide anti-fuse process were investigated using heavy ions and a picosecond pulsed laser. The cross sections of a single event upset(SEU) for radiationhardened PROMs were measured using a linear energy transfer(LET) ranging from 9.2 to 95.6 MeV cm^2mg^(-1).The result indicated that the LET threshold for a dynamic bit upset was ~ 9 MeV cm^2mg^(-1), which was lower than the threshold of ~ 20 MeV cm^2mg^(-1) for an address counter upset owing to the additional triple modular redundancy structure present in the latch. In addition, a slight hard error was observed in the anti-fuse structure when employing209 Bi ions with extremely high LET values(~ 91.6 MeV cm^2mg^(-1)) and large ion fluence(~ 1×10~8 ions cm^(-2)). To identify the detailed sensitive position of a SEU in PROMs, a pulsed laser with a 5-μm beam spot was used to scan the entire surface of the device.This revealed that the upset occurred in the peripheral circuits of the internal power source and I/O pairs rather than in the internal latches and buffers. This was subsequently confirmed by a ^(181)Ta experiment. Based on the experimental data and a rectangular parallelepiped model of the sensitive volume, the space error rates for the used PROMs were calculated using the CRèME-96 prediction tool. | 19 | Advances in alternating electromagnetic field data processing for earthquake monitoring in China显示文摘The alternating electromagnetic(EM) field is one of the most sensitive physical fields related to earthquakes. There have been a number of publications reporting EM anomalies associated with earthquakes. With increasing applications and research of artificial-source extremely low frequency EM and satellite EM technologies in earthquake studies, the amount of observed data from the alternating EM method increases rapidly and exponentially, so it is imperative to develop suitable and effective methods for processing and analyzing the influx of big data. This paper presents research on the self-adaptive filter and wavelet techniques and their applications to analyzing EM data obtained from ground measurements and satellite observations, respectively. Analysis results show that the self-adaptive filter method can identify both natural- and artificial-source EM signals, and enhance the ratio between signal and noise of EM field spectra, apparent resistivity, and others. The wavelet analysis is capable of detecting possible correlation between EM anomalies and seismic events.
