| 2 | Watt-level and spectrally flat mid-infrared supercontinuum in fluoroindate fibers显示文摘We report on infrared supercontinuum(SC) generation in step-index fluoroindate-based fiber by using an all-fiber laser source. In comparison to widely used ZBLAN fibers for high-power mid-infrared(MIR) SC generation, fluoroindate fibers have multiphoton absorption edges at significantly longer wavelengths and can sustain similar intensities. Recent developments highlighted in the present study allowed the production of fluoroindate fibers with MIR background loss of 2 dB/km, which is similar to or even better than ZBLAN fibers.By using an all-fiber picosecond laser source based on an erbium amplifier followed by a thulium power amplifier,we demonstrate the generation of 1.0 W infrared SC spanning over 2.25 octaves from 1 μm to 5 μm. | 4 | Implications of safety requirements for the treatment of THMC processes in geological disposal systems for radioactive waste显示文摘The mission of nuclear safety authorities in national radioactive waste disposal programmes is to ensure that people and the environment are protected against the hazards of ionising radiations emitted by the waste.It implies the establishment of safety requirements and the oversight of the activities of the waste management organisation in charge of implementing the programme.In Belgium,the safety requirements for geological disposal rest on the following principles:defence-in-depth,demonstrability and the radiation protection principles elaborated by the International Commission on Radiological Protection(ICRP).Applying these principles requires notably an appropriate identification and characterisation of the processes upon which the safety functions fulfilled by the disposal system rely and of the processes that may affect the system performance.Therefore,research and development(R&D)on safety-relevant thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical(THMC)issues is important to build confidence in the safety assessment.This paper points out the key THMC processes that might influence radionuclide transport in a disposal system and its surrounding environment,considering the dynamic nature of these processes.Their nature and significance are expected to change according to prevailing internal and external conditions,which evolve from the repository construction phase to the whole heatingecooling cycle of decaying waste after closure.As these processes have a potential impact on safety,it is essential to identify and to understand them properly when developing a disposal concept to ensure compliance with relevant safety requirements.In particular,the investigation of THMC processes is needed to manage uncertainties.This includes the identification and characterisation of uncertainties as well as for the understanding of their safety-relevance.R&D may also be necessary to reduce uncertainties of which the magnitude does not allow demonstrating the safety of the disposal system. | Frédéric Bernier Frank Lemy Pierre De Cannière Valéry Detilleux | 2017 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2017,9,3: | 3 |
| 5 | Autoregressive neural networks with exogenous variables for indoor temperature prediction in buildings显示文摘Thermal models of buildings are helpful to forecast their energy use and to enhance the control of their mechanical systems.However,these models are building-specific and require a tedious,error-prone and time-consuming development effort relying on skilled building energy modelers.Compared to white-box and gray-box models,data-driven(black-box)models require less development time and a minimal amount of information about the building characteristics.In this paper,autoregressive neural network models are compared to gray-box and black-box linear models to simulate indoor temperatures.These models are trained,validated and compared to actual experimental data obtained for an existing commercial building in Montreal(QC,Canada)equipped with roof top units for air conditioning.Results show that neural networks mimic more accurately the thermal behavior of the building when limited information is available,compared to gray-box and black-box linear models.The gray-box model does not perform adequately due to its under-parameterized nature,while the linear models cannot capture non-linear phenomena such as radiative heat transfer and occupancy.Therefore,the neural network models outperform the alternative models in the presented application,reaching a coefficient of determination R2 up to 0.824 and a root mean square error down to 1.11℃,including the error propagation over time for a 1-week period with a 5-minute time-step.When considering a 50-hour time horizon,the best neural networks reach a much lower root mean square error of around 0.6℃,which is suitable for applications such as model predictive control. | Benoit Delcroix Jérôme Le Ny Michel Bernier Muhammad Azam Bingrui Qu Jean-Simon Venne | 2021 | Building Simulation2021,14,1: | 3 |
| 6 | Outcome and prognostic factors in 110 consecutive patients with primary uterine leiomyosarcoma:A Rare Cancer Network study显示文摘Objective: Primary uterine leiomyosarcomas(ULMS) are rare,and the optimal treatment is controversial.We aimed to assess the outcome and prognostic factors in a multicenter population of women treated for primary ULMS.Methods: We retrospectively collected data of 110 women treated in 19 institutions of the Rare Cancer Network(RCN).Inclusion criteria consisted of a pathology report confirming the diagnosis of ULMS,aged 18–80 years,complete International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics(FIGO) stage information,complete information on treatment,and a minimum follow-up of 6 months.Local control(LC) and locoregional control(LRC),overall survival(OS) and disease-free survival(DFS) rates were computed using the Kaplan-Meier method.Univariate analysis was implemented using the log rank test,and multivariate analysis using the Cox model.Results: All patients underwent surgery.Seventy-five patients(68%) received adjuvant radiotherapy(RT),including brachytherapy in 18(16%).Seventeen patients(15%) received adjuvant chemotherapy.Median follow-up was 58(range,6–240) months.Five-year OS and DFS rates were 50% and 34%,and LC and LRC rates were 88%and 72%,respectively.On multivariate analysis,independent favorable prognostic factors were younger age,FIGO stage I,small tumor size,previous uterine disease,and no vascular invasion for OS and DFS.FIGO stage was the only favorable factor influencing LRC.Adjuvant local or systemic treatments did not improve the outcomes.Eight patients treated with RT presented a grade 3 acute toxicity,and only one patient with grade 3 late toxicity.Conclusions: In this large population of primary ULMS patients,we found good results in terms of LC and LRC.Nevertheless,OS remains poor,mainly due to the occurrence of distant metastases.An early diagnosis seemed to improve the prognosis of the patients.Adjuvant local or systemic treatments,or more aggressive surgicalprocedures such as the Wertheim procedure,did not seem to impact the outcome. | Alessandra Franzetti Pellanda Berardino De Bari Elisabeth Deniaud-Alexandre MarcoKrengli Paul Van Houtte Antonella Riehetti Salvador Villa Hadassah Goldberg EwaSzutowiez-Zielifiska Michel Bolla Heidi Rutten Marc Van Eijkeren Philip Poortmans Guido Henke Yavuz Anaeak Steve Chan Christine Landmann Carine Kirkove LueianoScandolaro Jacques Bernier Rene-Olivier Mirimanof Mahmut Ozsahin | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2017,29,6: | 2 |

| 8 | Stability of fruit quality traits in diverse watermelon cultivars tested in multiple environments显示文摘Lycopene is a naturally occurring red carotenoid compound that is found in watermelon.Lycopene has antioxidant properties.Lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance are subject to significant genotype×environment interaction(G×E),which makes breeding for these fruit quality traits difficult.The objectives of this study were to(i)evaluate the influence of years and locations on lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance for a set of watermelon genotypes,and(ii)identify genotypes with high stability for lycopene,sugar,and hollowheart resistance.A diverse set of 40 genotypes was tested over 3 years and 8 locations across the southern United States in replicated,multi-harvest trials.Lycopene was tested in a subset of 10 genotypes.Data were analyzed using univariate and multivariate stability statistics(BLUP-GGE biplot)using SASGxE and RGxE programs.There were strong effects of environment as well as G×E interaction on watermelon quality traits.On the basis of stability measures,genotypes were classified as stable or unstable for each quality trait.'Crimson Sweet'is an inbred line with high quality trait performance as well as trait stability.'Stone Mountain','Tom Watson','Crimson Sweet'and'Minilee'were among the best genotypes for lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance.We developed a stability chart based on marketable yield and average ranking generated from different stability measures for yield attributes and quality traits.The chart will assist in choosing parents for improvement of watermelon cultivars.See http://gffzz783b6e01a04243c3h669vbbxvu9o56buk.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/cucurbit/wmelon/wmelonmain.html. | Mahendra Dia Todd C Wehner Penelope Perkins-Veazie Richard Hassell Daniel S Price George E Boyhan Stephen M Olson Stephen R King Angela R Davis Gregory E Tolla Jerome Bernier Benito Juarez | 2016 | Horticulture Research2016,3,1: | 2 |
