| 2 | Autonomy in materials research: a case study in carbon nanotube growth显示文摘Advances in materials are an important contributor to our technological progress,and yet the process of materials discovery and development itself is slow.Our current research process is human-centred,where human researchers design,conduct,analyse and interpret experiments,and then decide what to do next.We have built an Autonomous Research System(ARES)—an autonomous research robot capable of first-of-its-kind closed-loop iterative materials experimentation.ARES exploits advances in autonomous robotics,artificial intelligence,data sciences,and high-throughput and in situ techniques,and is able to design,execute and analyse its own experiments orders of magnitude faster than current research methods.We applied ARES to study the synthesis of singlewalled carbon nanotubes,and show that it successfully learned to grow them at targeted growth rates.ARES has broad implications for the future roles of humans and autonomous research robots,and for human-machine partnering.We believe autonomous research robots like ARES constitute a disruptive advance in our ability to understand and develop complex materials at an unprecedented rate. | Pavel Nikolaev Daylond Hooper Frederick Webber Rahul Rao Kevin Decker Michael Krein Jason Poleski Rick Barto Benji Maruyama | 2016 | npj Computational Materials2016,,1: | 9 |
| 3 | Efficacy and safety of Reduqing granules in the treatment of common cold with wind-heat syndrome: a randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, positive-controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To assess the efficacy and safety of Reduqing granules in patients with common cold with wind-heat syndrome(CCWHS).METHODS:A randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, parallel, positive-controlled trial included 72 CCWHS patients was performed.The participants were randomly assigned to two groups,Reduqing(RDQ) group and Lianhuaqingwen(LHQW) group, in a 1∶1 ratio.Patients in RDQ group received Reduqing granules and dummy Lianhuaqingwen capsules three times a day and patients in LHQW group received Lianhuaqingwen capsules and dummy Reduqing granules three times daily.The duration of treatment and follow-up were four days.RESULTS:There were no statistically significant differences in total markedly effective rate and total effective rate between RDQ group and LHQW group after treatment.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) symptom score was significantly reduced after treatment in RDQ group, as well as in LHQW group.However, the difference of change in TCM symptom score between two groups was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).There were no significant differences between two groups in the median time to fever relief [RDQ group(4 ± 8) h vs LHQW group(4 ± 5) h] or the median time to fever clearance(RDQ group 47 h vs LHQW 36 h).No serious adverse events were reported during the study.CONCLUSION:Compared with Lianhuaqingwen capsules, Reduqing granules achieved similar therapeutic effect in the treatment of CCWHS and no drug-related adverse events were reported during the study.Therefore, Reduqing granules might be effective and safe in the treatment of CCWHS. | Ma Yanjiao Zhang Zhongyi Wei Lianbo He Shuai Deng Xun Ji Aimin Zhou Benjie Jiang Deqi Li Mingxing Wang Yong | 2017 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2017,37,2: | 5 |
| 4 | Modeling and predicting dengue fever cases in key regions of the Philippines using remote sensing data显示文摘Objective: To correlate climatic and environmental factors such as land surface temperature, rainfall, humidity and normalized difference vegetation index with the incidence of dengue to develop prediction models for the Philippines using remote-sensing data.Methods: Timeseries analysis was performed using dengue cases in four regions of the Philippines and monthly climatic variables extracted from Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation for rainfall, and MODIS for the land surface temperature and normalized difference vegetation index from 2008-2015.Consistent dataset during the period of study was utilized in Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average models to predict dengue incidence in the four regions being studied.Results: The best-fitting models were selected to characterize the relationship between dengue incidence and climate variables.The predicted cases of dengue for January to December 2015 period fitted well with the actual dengue cases of the same timeframe.It also showed significantly good linear regression with a square of correlation of 0.869 5 for the four regions combined.Conclusion: Climatic and environmental variables are positively associated with dengue incidence and suit best as predictor factors using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average models.This finding could be a meaningful tool in developing an early warning model based on weather forecasts to deliver effective public health prevention and mitigation programs. | Maria Ruth B.Pineda-Cortel Benjie M.Clemente Pham Thi Thanh Nga | 2019 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2019,12,2: | 2 |
| 5 | Role of β-microseminoprotein from prostate cancer initiationto recurrence: A mini-review显示文摘Medline/Pubmed articles relevant to this topic were considered using the search terms ?-microseminoprotein, MSMB, prostate secretory protein of 94 amino acids and PSP94. Full articles were retrieved when the abstract was considered relevant. In addition, other data related to this topic including our own are discussed. Summary of fi ndings-?-microseminoprotein(MSMB) is increasingly being considered as a marker for prostatecancer, as reduced levels have been associated with the disease. Here we review various aspects of this protein including its biological and physiological variants, binding proteins and immune modulation; its importance as a marker for biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer; prostate cancer related splice variants and its therapeutic utility. Two of the most important properties of MSMB are related to anticancer functions and immune modulation. Predominant expression of two(short and full-length) splice variants of MSMB has been observed from normal prostate and several other tissues. In benign prostate hyperplasia the short isoform is dominant, constituting 98% of this isoform, whereas in prostate cancer 96% constitute the fulllength isoform. The MSMB promoter single nucleotide polymorphism rs10993994 with the C allele functions as an activated cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein binding site. This C variant of rs10993994 could be responsible for the production of splice variants under variable conditions. MSMB has binding motifs to a few known proteins including immunoglobulin G and several Cysteine-rich secretory proteins family proteins. MSMB bound to these proteins is considered as immune modulating. Use of MSMB as a urinary marker for detecting aggressive prostate cancers that could resist radiation and surgical treatments, seems possible, but needs further investigation.
