1A Weakly Supervised Deep Learning Framework for Sorghum Head Detection and Counting显示文摘The yield of cereal crops such as sorghum(Sorghum bicolor L.Moench)depends on the distribution of crop-heads in varying branching arrangements.Therefore,counting the head number per unit area is critical for plant breeders to correlate with the genotypic variation in a specific breeding field.However,measuring such phenotypic traitsmanually is an extremely labor-intensive process and suffers from low efficiency and human errors.Moreover,the process is almost infeasible for large-scale breeding plantations or experiments.Machine learning-based approaches like deep convolutional neural network(CNN)based object detectors are promising tools for efficient object detection and counting.However,a significant limitation of such deep learningbased approaches is that they typically require a massive amount of hand-labeled images for training,which is still a tedious process.Here,we propose an active learning inspired weakly supervised deep learning framework for sorghum head detection and counting from UAV-based images.We demonstrate that it is possible to significantly reduce human labeling effort without compromising final model performance(��2 between human count and machine count is 0.88)by using a semitrained CNN model(i.e.,trained with limited labeled data)to perform synthetic annotation.In addition,we also visualize key features that the network learns.This improves trustworthiness by enabling users to better understand and trust the decisions that the trained deep learning model makes.Sambuddha Ghosal Bangyou Zheng Scott CChapman Andries BPotgieter David RJordan Xuemin Wang Asheesh KSingh Arti Singh Masayuki Hirafuji Seishi Ninomiya Baskar Ganapathysubramanian Soumik Sarkar Wei Guo 2019Plant Phenomics2019,1,1:16
2MnO_2纳米粒子固载纤维素酶用于高效水解农业废弃物制备生物乙醇(英文)显示文摘纤维素酶是一种有效的纤维质类物质水解催化剂,工业应用时可通过固定化纤维素酶来降低其成本.本文将烟曲霉原变种JCF产生的纤维素酶固定在Mn O2纳米颗粒上.MnO2可提高纤维素酶的活性,并充当一个更好的载体.采用扫描电镜表征了所制MnO2纳米粒子及其负载纤维素酶的表面性质,以傅里叶变换红外光谱分析了固定在MnO2纳米粒子上纤维素酶的官能团性质.纤维素酶在MnO2纳米粒子上最大的固定化效率为75%.考察了固定化纤维素酶的活性、操作pH值、温度、热稳定性和重复使用性等性质.结果表明,所制固定化酶的稳定性比游离酶更高.固定于MnO2纳米粒子上的纤维素酶可用于纤维质类物质的水解反应,且能在较宽的温度和pH值范围内使用.表征结果证实了该催化剂具有非常高的催化纤维素类物质水解的活性.Elsa Cherian Mahendradas Dharmendirakumar Gurunathan Baskar 2015催化学报2015,36,8:7

4Evaluation of wound healing and antimicrobial potentials of Ixora coccinea root extract显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the wound healing and antimicrobial activity of root extracts of Ixora coccinea(I.coccinea).Methods:To investigate the wound healing efficacy of root extract of I.coccinea Linn,five groups of animals were divided each containing six animals.Two wound models including incision and excision wound models were used in this study.The parameters studied were tensile strength on incision wound model and in terms of wound contraction for excision wound model were compared with standard Nitrofurazone(NFZ) ointment(0.2%w/w). Six extracts(ethanol.aqueous,petroleum ether,benzene,chloroform and ethyl acetate ) of I. coccinea were screened for in vitro growth inhibiting activity against different bacterial strains riz. Staphylococcia aureus.Bacillus pumilius,Enterococcus facialis.Escherichia coli,Salmonella typhi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger were compared with the standard drugs ciprofloxacin and chloramphenicol for antibacterial and griscofulvin for antifungal screening.The serial dilution and cup(or) well plate methods were used for the antimicrobial study and MIC was determined.Results:The ethanolic extract showed significant (P<0.001) wound healing activity when compared to standard drug NFZ with respect to normal control group.Amongst all.ethanolic extract showed highly significant antibacterial activity against all bacterial strains used in this study when compared to standard.The aqueous extract showed moderate significant inhibition against all bacterial strains when compared to standard. All the extracts were shown negligible activity against the fungal strains used in this study. 5Development of Optimized Phenomic Predictors for Efficient Plant Breeding Decisions Using Phenomic-Assisted Selection in Soybean显示文摘The rate of advancement made in phenomic-assisted breeding methodologies has lagged those of genomic-assisted techniques,which is now a critical component of mainstream cultivar development pipelines.However,advancements made in phenotyping technologies have empowered plant scientists with affordable high-dimensional datasets to optimize the operational efficiencies of breeding programs.Phenomic and seed yield data was collected across six environments for a panel of 292 soybean accessions with varying genetic improvements.Random forest,a machine learning(ML)algorithm,was used to map complex relationships between phenomic traits and seed yield and prediction performance assessed using two cross-validation(CV)scenarios consistent with breeding challenges.To develop a prescriptive sensor package for future high-throughput phenotyping deployment to meet breeding objectives,feature importance in tandem with a genetic algorithm(GA)technique allowed selection of a subset of phenotypic traits,specifically optimal wavebands.The results illuminated the capability of fusingML and optimization techniques to identify a suite of in-season phenomic traits that will allow breeding programs to decrease the dependence on resource-intensive end-season phenotyping(e.g.,seed yield harvest).While we illustrate with soybean,this study establishes a template for deploying multitrait phenomic prediction that is easily amendable to any crop species and any breeding objective。Kyle Parmley Koushik Nagasubramanian Soumik Sarkar Baskar Ganapathysubramanian Asheesh K.Singh 2019Plant Phenomics2019,1,1:5
6Purification,characterization and production optimization of a vibriocin produced by mangrove associated vibrio parahaemolyticus显示文摘Objective:To identify a potential bacterium which produces antimicrobial peptide(vibriocin),and its purification,characterization and production optimization.The bacteria subjected in the study were isolated from a highly competitive ecological niche of mangrove ecosystem.Methods:The bacterium was characterized by phenotype besides 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis.The antibacterial activity was recognised by using agar well diffusion method.The vibriocin was purified using ammonium sulphate precipitation,butanol extraction,gel filtration chromatography,ion-exchange chromatography and subsequently,by HPLC.Molecular weight of the substance identified in SDS-PAGE.Production optimization performed according to Taguchi's mathematical model using 6 different nutritional parameters as variables.Results:The objective bacterium was identified as Vibrio parahaemolyticm.The vibriocin showed 18 KDa of molecular mass with mono peptide in nature and highest activity against pathogenic Vibrio harveyi.The peptide act stable in a wide range of pH,temperature.UV radiation,solvents and chemicals utilized.An overall^20%of vibriocin production was improved,and was noticed that NaCl and agitation speed played a vital role in secretion of vibriocin.Conclusion:The vibriocin identified here would he an effective alternative for chemically synthesized drugs for the management of Vibrio infections in mariculture industry.Baskar Balakrishnan Jayappriyan Kothilmozhian Ranishree Sathish Thadikamala Prabakaran Panchatcharam 2014Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,4:5
7Preparation and Characterization of Hydroxyapatite-Coated Selenium Nanoparticles and their Interaction with Osteosarcoma(SaOS-2) Cells显示文摘Nanotechnology has taken a firm step to revolutionize the field of orthopedic implants. Current research on bone implants focuses to develop implants with multifaceted functions viz., osteoinduction, chemoprevention, antimicrobial action etc., especially for cancerous bone resection. The objective of the present study was to synthesize a novel composite for bone implants, possessing the above properties. Selenium was selected owing to its chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic properties. Hydroxyapatite was selected owing to its bioactivity and similarity in composition to bone mineral properties. Selenium nanoparticles were prepared by chemical reduction method and coated with hydroxyapatite.Hydroxyapatite-coated selenium nanoparticle(HASnp) was characterized physico-chemically using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscope, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.HASnp was analysed in vitro using SaOS-2 cell line. Enhanced cell proliferation and alkaline phosphatase activity were observed in HASnp-treated cells. 8Soybean Root System Architecture Trait Study through Genotypic,Phenotypic,and Shape-Based Clusters显示文摘We report a root system architecture(RSA)traits examination of a larger scale soybean accession set to study trait genetic diversity.Suffering from the limitation of scale,scope,and susceptibility to measurement variation,RSA traits are tedious to phenotype.Combining 35,448 SNPs with an imaging phenotyping platform,292 accessions(replications=14)were studied for RSA traits to decipher the genetic diversity.Based on literature search for root shape and morphology parameters,we used an ideotypebased approach to develop informative root(iRoot)categories using root traits.The RSA traits displayed genetic variability for root shape,length,number,mass,and angle.Soybean accessions clustered into eight genotype-and phenotype-based clusters and displayed similarity.Genotype-based clusters correlated with geographical origins.SNP profiles indicated that much of US origin genotypes lack genetic diversity for RSA traits,while diverse accession could infuse useful genetic variation for these traits.Shape-based clusters were created by integrating convolution neural net and Fourier transformation methods,enabling trait cataloging for breeding and research applications.The combination of genetic and phenotypic analyses in conjunction with machine learning and mathematical models provides opportunities for targeted root trait breeding efforts to maximize the beneficial genetic diversity for future genetic gains.Kevin G.Falk Talukder Zaki Jubery Jamie A.O’Rourke Arti Singh Soumik Sarkar Baskar Ganapathysubramanian Asheesh K.Singh 2020Plant Phenomics2020,2,1:3
9Nanocomposites for electronic applications that can be embedded for textiles and wearables显示文摘In the present review, we have selected advances in electrospinning nanofibers that we envision to be embedded in textiles and wearables. These nanofibers have been proven to be excellent options for applications such as power generation, sensing, and communication. Their similitude with already known woven meshes makes these fibers perfect for electronically active textiles.These fibers offer well known characteristics such as mechanical flexibility, high surface area-to-volume ratio, light weight and can be tuned by carefully selecting the active materials in the precursor solution.
