1Magnetotelluric investigation of lithospheric electrical structure beneath the Dharwar Craton in south India:Evidence for mantle suture and plume-continental interaction显示文摘Broad-band and long period magnetotelluric measurements made at 63 locations along -500 km long Chikmagalur-Kavali profile,that cut across the Dharwar craton (DC) and Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt (EGMB) in south India,is modelled to examine the lithosphere architecture of the cratonic domain and define tectonic boundaries.The 2-D resistivity model shows moderately conductive features that intersperse a highly resistive background of crystalline rocks and spatially connect to the exposed schist belts or granitic intrusions in the DC.These features are therefore interpreted as images of fossil pathways of the volcanic emplacements associated with the greenstone belt and granite suite formation exposed in the region.A near vertical conductive feature in the upper mantle under the Chitradurga Shear Zone represents the Archean suture between the western and eastern blocks of DC.Although thick (-200 km) cratonic (highly resistive) lithosphere is preserved,significant part of the cratonic lithosphere below the western DC is modified due to plume-continental lithosphere interactions during the CretaceouseTertiary period.A west-verging moderately conductive feature imaged beneath EGMB lithosphere is interpreted as the remnant of the Proterozoic collision process between the Indian land mass and East Antarctica.Thin (-120 km) lithosphere is seen below the EGMB,which form the exterior margin of the India shield subsequent to its separation from East Antarctica through rifting and opening of the Indian Ocean in the Cretaceous.D. 3Role of imaging in management of hepatocellular carcinoma: surveillance, diagnosis, and treatment response显示文摘Imaging plays a notable role in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)surveillance,diagnosis,and treatment response assessment.Whereas HCC surveillance among at-risk patients,including those with cirrhosis,has traditionally been ultrasound-based,there are increasing data showing that this strategy is operator-dependent and has insufficient sensitivity when used alone.Several novel blood-based and imaging modalities are currently being evaluated to increase sensitivity for early HCC detection.Multi-phase computed tomography(CT)or contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)should be performed in patients with positive surveillance tests to confirm a diagnosis of HCC and perform cancer staging,as needed.HCC is a unique cancer in that most cases can be diagnosed radiographically without histological confirmation when demonstrating characteristic features such as arterial phase hyperenhancement and delayed phase washout.The Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System offers a standardized nomenclature for reporting CT or MRI liver findings among at-risk patients.Finally,cross-sectional imaging plays a critical role for assessing response to any HCC therapy as well as monitoring for HCC recurrence in those who achieve complete response.Azeez Osho Nicole E.Rich Amit G.Singal 2020Hepatoma Research2020,6,8:2
4Mechanical Property and Morphological Analysis of Polyester Composites Reinforced with Cyperuspangorei Fibers显示文摘In the present work,polyester composites reinforced with a newly identified Cyperus pangorei fiber(CPF)were developed by compression moulding technique.The effects of varying fiber content and fiber length on the mechanical properties of the Cyperus pangorei fiber reinforced polyester composites(CPFCs)such as tensile,flexural,and impact properties were studied.Mechanical strength of the CPFCs increased with fiber length up to 40 mm beyond which a reverse trend was observed.Based on the test results,it was concluded that the critical fiber length and the optimum fiber weight percentage were 40 mm and 40 wt%respectively.The maximum increase of 164%and 117%were found for the tensile and flexural strength of the composite with 40 mm fiber length and 40 wt%fiber content,respectively.On the other hand,a 64%increase in impact strength was noticed for the optimum case.The increasing contact surface between the fiber and the polyester matrix in optimum condition can restrict the probability of fiber pullout and in turn can make the composite carry more load.The chemical structure of CPF was also analyzed using Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)spectrum.The morphological analysis of fractured samples was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM)to understand the interfacial bonding between CPFs and polyester matrix.The optimal composite can be a suitable alternative in the field of structural applications in construction and automobile industries.Mayandi Kalimuthu Rajini Nagarajan Alavudeen Azeez Batcha Suchart Siengchin Varada Rajulu Anumakonda Nadir Ayrilmis 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,1:2

7喜马拉雅西北部逆冲带的地壳电性结构(英文)显示文摘印度板块北部地形起伏较大的喜马拉雅山地区由几个构造互异的地质单元组成,依地形高、低把喜马拉雅碰撞带分成低喜马拉雅和高喜马拉雅.为了研究与主要逆冲带(含主缝合带MCT和主边界带MBT)有关的地壳电性结构,沿Rohtangpass(海拔4000 m)到Mandi(海拔400 m)剖面进行了MT探测.通过对16个测点观测资料的分析和考虑地形的二维反演,获得了沿剖面的二维电性结构.电性结构显示,在Chail和主逆冲边界带下方,东西走向的缝合带突然转向北.在下喜马拉雅的Rampur区段的元古代基底为范围较大的高阻体,而浅部地壳被逆冲带分成向北倾的电导性块体和电阻性块体.Chail逆冲带东侧低喜马拉雅Rampur区段的推挤和它西侧的基底脊柱体导致主边界带及相关的逆冲带(Kangra拐角)向北转弯,Kangra拐角处的应力可能是由于西侧基底脊柱体进入到Kangra区引起的.K. 10Population distribution and threats to sustainable management of selected non-timber forest products in tropical lowland rainforests of south western Nigeria显示文摘Uncontrolled harvesting of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) poses a serious risk of extermination to several of these species in Nigeria. Yet, there is a paucity of information on the distribution, population status and sustainable management of NTFPs in most of the tropical lowland rainforests. We, therefore, assessed the population, distribution and threats to sustainable management of NTFPs within the tropical lowland rainforests of Omo and Shasha Forest Reserves, south western Nigeria. Data were obtained through inventory surveys on five top priority species including: bush mango (Irvingia gabonensis (Aubry-Lecomte ex O'Rorke) Baill), African walnut (Tetracarpidium conophorum (Mull. Arg.) Hutch. & Dalziel syn. Plukenetia conophora), chew-stick (Massularia acuminata (G. Don) Bullock), fever bark (Annickia chlorantha Setten & P.J.Maas syn. Enantia chloranta) and bush pepper (Piper guineense Schumach. & Thonn.). Purposive and stratified random sampling techniques were used for the inventory. Each forest reserve was stratified into three, viz: less disturbed natural forest (for areas that have been rested for at least ten years), recently disturbed natural forest (for areas that have suffered one form of human perturba- tion or the other in the last five years), and plantation forest (for areas carrying forest plantation). Data were collected from eighteen 10m×500m belt transects located in the above strata. The species were gener- ally fewer in both plantation and recently disturbed natural forest than the less disturbed natural forest, suggesting that forest disturbances (habitat modification) for other uses may have an effect on the occurrence and densities of the NTFPs. Exceptions to this trend were found for P. guineense and T. conophorum, which were fairly common in both planta-tion and recently disturbed natural forest. Among three tree NTFP species (i.e. I. gabonensis, M. acuminata and A. chlorantha), only I. gabonensis showed a significant difference in overall DBH size classes for both reserves (t=-2.404; df =21; p=0.026). Three tree NTFP species in both reserves further showed differences from the regular patterns of distribution of trees. The fairly regular reverse J-shaped size class distribution observed for M. acuminata in the study sites, however, suggests a recuperating population. In general, destructive harvesting of species, logging operations, low population size, narrow distribution ranges and habitat degradation are the major threats to the population of NTFPs in the study area. The implications of our findings for sustainable management of NTFPs in the study area are discussed and recommendations are made for a feasible approach towards enhancing the status of the species.Jimoh S.O.
