1Bmi-1:At the crossroads of physiological and pathological biology显示文摘Bmi-1 is a member of the Polycomb repressor complex 1 that mediates gene silencing by regulating chromatin structure and is indispensable for self-renewal of both normal and cancer stem cells.Despite three decades of research that have elucidated the transcriptional regulation,post-translational modifications and functions of Bmi-1 in regulating the DNA damage response,cellular bioenergetics,and pathologies,the entire potential of a protein with such varied functions remains to be realized.This review attempts to synthesize the current knowledge on Bmi-1 with an emphasis on its role in both normal physiology and cancer.Additionally,since cancer stem cells are emerging as a new paradigm for therapy resistance,the role of Bmi-1 in this perspective is also highlighted.The wide spectrum of malignancies that implicate Bmi-1 as a signature for stemness and oncogenesis also make it a suitable candidate for therapy.Nonetheless,new approaches are vitally needed to further characterize physiological roles of Bmi-1 with the long-term goal of using Bmi-1 as a prognostic marker and a therapeutic target.Resham Bhattacharya Soumyajit Banerjee Mustafi Mark Street Anindya Dey Shailendra Kumar Dhar Dwivedi 2015Genes & Diseases2015,2,3:15

4A simplified approach to assess seismic stability of tailings dams显示文摘In the zones of high seismic activity, tailings dam should be assessed for the stability against earthquake forces. In the present paper, a simplified method is proposed to compute the factor of safety of tailings dams. The strain-dependent dynamic properties are used to assess the stability of tailings dams under seismic conditions. The effect of foundation soil properties on the seismic stability of tailings dams is studied using the proposed method. For the given input parameters, the factor of safety for lowfrequency input motions is nearly 26% lower than that for high-frequency input excitations. The impedance ratio and the depth of foundation have significant effect on the seismic factor of safety of tailings dams. The results from the proposed method are well compared with the existing pseudo-static method of analysis. 6A Power Management Scheme for Grid-connected PV Integrated with Hybrid Energy Storage System显示文摘The penetration of renewable energy sources(RESs)in the distribution system becomes a challenge for the reliable and safe operation of the existing power system.The sporadic characteristics of sustainable energy sources along with the random load variations greatly affect the power quality and stability of the system.Hence,it requires storage systems with both high energy and high power handling capacity to coexist in microgrids.An efficient energy management structure is designed in this paper for a grid-connected PV system combined with hybrid storage of supercapacitor and battery.The combined supercapacitor and battery storage system grips the average and transient power changes,which provides a quick control for the DC-link voltage,i.e.,it stabilizes the system and helps achieve the PV power smoothing.The average power distribution between the power grid and battery is done by checking the state of charge(SOC)of a battery,and an effective and efficient energy management scheme is proposed.Additionally,the use of a supercapacitor lessens the current stress on the battery system during unexpected disparity in the generated power and load requirement.The performance and efficacy of the proposed energy management scheme are justified by simulation studies.Anindya Bharatee Pravat K.Ray Arnab Ghosh 2022Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2022,10,4:2

9Seismic passive earth resistance using modified pseudo-dynamic method显示文摘In earthquake prone areas,understanding of the seismic passive earth resistance is very important for the design of different geotechnical earth retaining structures.In this study,the limit equilibrium method is used for estimation of critical seismic passive earth resistance for an inclined wall supporting horizontal cohesionless backfill.A composite failure surface is considered in the present analysis.Seismic forces are computed assuming the backfill soil as a viscoelastic material overlying a rigid stratum and the rigid stratum is subjected to a harmonic shaking.The present method satisfies the boundary conditions.The amplification of acceleration depends on the properties of the backfill soil and on the characteristics of the input motion.The acceleration distribution along the depth of the backfill is found to be nonlinear in nature.The present study shows that the horizontal and vertical acceleration distribution in the backfill soil is not always in-phase for the critical value of the seismic passive earth pressure coefficient.The effect of different parameters on the seismic passive earth pressure is studied in detail.A comparison of the present method with other theories is also presented,which shows the merits of the present study.Anindya Pain Deepankar Choudhury S.
