9Empirical study on the effect of using synthetic attributes on classification algorithms显示文摘Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to present an empirical study on the effect of two synthetic attributes to popular classification algorithms on data originating from student transcripts.The attributes represent past performance achievements in a course,which are defined as global performance(GP)and local performance(LP).GP of a course is an aggregated performance achieved by all students who have taken this course,and LP of a course is an aggregated performance achieved in the prerequisite courses by the student taking the course.Design/methodology/approach-The paper uses Educational Data Mining techniques to predict student performance in courses,where it identifies the relevant attributes that are the most key influencers for predicting the final grade(performance)and reports the effect of the two suggested attributes on the classification algorithms.As a research paradigm,the paper follows Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining using RapidMiner Studio software tool.Six classification algorithms are experimented:C4.5 and CART Decision Trees,Naive Bayes,k-neighboring,rule-based induction and support vector machines.Findings-The outcomes of the paper show that the synthetic attributes have positively improved the performance of the classification algorithms,and also they have been highly ranked according to their influence to the target variable.Originality/value-This paper proposes two synthetic attributes that are integrated into real data set.The key motivation is to improve the quality of the data and make classification algorithms perform better.The paper also presents empirical results showing the effect of these attributes on selected classification algorithms.Ali Hasan Alsaffar 2017International Journal of Intelligent Computing and Cybernetics2017,10,2:0
10A Learning Model to Detect Android C&C Applications Using Hybrid Analysis显示文摘Smartphone devices particularly Android devices are in use by billions of people everywhere in the world.Similarly,this increasing rate attracts mobile botnet attacks which is a network of interconnected nodes operated through the command and control(C&C)method to expand malicious activities.At present,mobile botnet attacks launched the Distributed denial of services(DDoS)that causes to steal of sensitive data,remote access,and spam generation,etc.Consequently,various approaches are defined in the literature to detect mobile botnet attacks using static or dynamic analysis.In this paper,a novel hybrid model,the combination of static and dynamic methods that relies on machine learning to detect android botnet applications is proposed.Furthermore,results are evaluated using machine learning classifiers.The Random Forest(RF)classifier outperform as compared to other ML techniques i.e.,Naïve Bayes(NB),Support Vector Machine(SVM),and Simple Logistic(SL).Our proposed framework achieved 97.48%accuracy in the detection of botnet applications.Finally,some future research directions are highlighted regarding botnet attacks detection for the entire community.Attia Qammar Ahmad Karim Yasser Alharbi Mohammad Alsaffar Abdullah Alharbi 2022Computer Systems Science & Engineering2022,43,12:0

12Causative bacteria of ventilator-associated pneumonia in intensive care unit in Bahrain:Prevalence and antibiotics susceptibility pattern显示文摘BACKGROUND Ventilator-associated pneumonia(VAP)is defined as pneumonia that occurs two calendar days following endotracheal intubation or after that.It is the most common infection encountered among intubated patients.VAP incidence showed wide variability between countries.AIM To define the VAP incidence in the intensive care unit(ICU)in the central gove-rnment hospital in Bahrain and review the risk factors and the predominant bacterial pathogens with their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern.METHODS The research was a prospective cross-sectional observational study over six months from November 2019 to June 2020.It included adult and adolescent patients(>14 years old)admitted to the ICU and required intubation and mechanical ventilation.VAP was diagnosed when it occurred after 48 h after endotracheal intubation using the clinical pulmonary infection score,which considers the clinical,laboratory,microbiological,and radiographic evidence.RESULTS The total number of adult patients admitted to the ICU who required intubation and mechanical ventilation during the study period was 155.Forty-six patients developed VAP during their ICU stay(29.7%).The calculated VAP rate was 22.14 events per 1000 ventilator days during the study period,with a mean age of 52 years±20.Most VAP cases had late-onset VAP with a mean number of ICU days before the development of VAP of 9.96±6.55.Gram-negative contributed to most VAP cases in our unit,with multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter being the most identified pathogen.CONCLUSION The reported VAP rate in our ICU was relatively high compared to the international benchmark,which should trigger a vital action plan for reinforcing the implementation of the VAP prevention bundle.Mohamed Eliwa Hassan Safaa Abdulaziz Al-Khawaja Nermin Kamal Saeed Sana Abdulaziz Al-Khawaja Mahmood Al-Awainati Sara Salah Yusuf Radhi Mohamed Hameed Alsaffar Mohammed Al-Beltagi 2023World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2023,12,3:0
