1Diabetes mellitus: The epidemic of the century显示文摘The epidemic nature of diabetes mellitus in different regions is reviewed. The Middle East and North Africa region has the highest prevalence of diabetes in adults(10.9%) whereas, the Western Pacific region has the highest number of adults diagnosed with diabetes and has countries with the highest prevalence of diabetes(37.5%). Different classes of diabetes mellitus, type 1, type 2, gestational diabetes and other types of diabetes mellitus are compared in terms of diagnostic criteria, etiology and genetics. The molecular genetics of diabetes received extensive attention in recent years by many prominent investigators and research groups in the biomedical field. A large array of mutations and single nucleotide polymorphisms in genes that play a role in the various steps and pathways involved in glucose metabolism and the development, control and function of pancreatic cells at various levels are reviewed. The major advances in the molecular understanding of diabetes in relation to the different types of diabetes in comparison to the previous understanding in this field are briefly reviewed here. Despite the accumulation of extensive data at the molecular and cellular levels, the mechanism of diabetes development and complications are still not fully understood. 2Comparison of neurological clinical manifestation in patients with hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke显示文摘BACKGROUND: Cerebrovascular accident(CVA) is the third leading cause of death and disability in developed countries. Anyone suspected of having a stroke should be taken immediately to a medical facility for diagnosis and treatment. The symptoms that follow a stroke aren't signi? cant and depend on the area of the brain that has been affected and the amount of tissue damaged. Parameters for predicting long-term outcome in such patients have not been clearly delineated, therefore the aim of this study was to investigate this possibility and to test a system that might practicably be used routinely to aid management and predict outcomes of individual stroke patients.METHODS: A descriptive hospital-based study of the neurological symptoms and signs of 503 patients with ischemic stroke, including severe headache, seizure, eye movement disorder, pupil size, Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS), agitation were analyzed in this study.RESULTS: In the current study, dilated pupils, agitation, acute onset headache, lower GCS score, seizure, and eye gaze impairment had signi? cantly higher prevalence in hemorrhagic stroke patients(P<0.001). 3纳米氮化铝改性对芳纶1313绝缘纸介电特性的影响显示文摘聚合物纳米复合材料因其优良的介电性能在电介质绝缘领域得到了广泛的应用。为获得性能优良的绝缘纸,将纳米氮化铝(AlN)添加到芳纶1313中。将改性后的绝缘纸进行浸油处理,研究了AlN对油浸芳纶1313介电性能的影响。结果表明:纳米Al N能有效降低绝缘纸的电导电流,以及提升其交流击穿电场强度;同时Al N能够抑制空间电荷向介质内的注入、迁移和积聚,使绝缘纸内空间电荷分布更加均匀。另外聚合物纳米材料的界面特性使得改性后绝缘纸的相对介电常数和介电损耗值有所升高,介损松弛峰值也向低频段移动。芳纶1313/Al N油浸绝缘纸介电性能的变化归因于纳米粒子与聚合物之间的界面效应使界面区域陷阱浓度和深度增大,限制了电荷的运动。柏舸 廖瑞金 刘娜 柳海滨 杨丽君 Shakeel Akram 2015高电压技术2015,41,2:15
4Clinical features and prognosis in colorectal cancer patients with different ethnicities in Northwest China显示文摘AIM:To compare the clinical factors and tumor characteristics that predict survival in colorectal cancer(CRC)patients with different ethnicities in Xin Jiang area.METHODS:A total of 1421 histopathologically confirmed sporadic CRC patients who were either Han/Chinese or Uyghur were identified and enrolled from a database of both diagnoses and operative procedures from Xin Jiang Tumor Hospital,which is affiliated to Xin Jiang Medical University between 2000 and 2007.Patients with family histories of CRC,hereditary nonpolyposis CRC,familial adenomatous polyposis,inflammatory bowel disease,carcinoid,squamous carcinoma or melanoma were excluded.The two ethnic groups were compared with regard to clinical features,tumor characteristics,disease stage,overall survival rate,diseasefree survival rate and cancer-specific survival rate.The factors predicting long-term survival were assessed via both univariate and multivariate analysis.RESULTS:Among the 1421 patients with CRC enrolled in this study,1210 patients were Han/Chinese(mean age,62.3±4.5 years;range,19-92 years),while 211patients were Uyghur(mean age,52.4±15.6 years;range,17-87 years).There were significant differences in proportions of gender,age,blood type,occupation and histopathological type between the Han/Chinese and Uyghur patients(P<0.05).The median overall,disease-free and cancer-specific survival time were 45,62and 65 mo for the Han/Chinese patients and 42,49 and61 mo for the Uyghur patients(P=0.000,P=0.005,P=0.007).The cumulative 5-year survival of the Uyghur patients was significantly worse than that of the Han patients(P=0.000).A multivariate analysis showed that age,ethnicity,histopathological type,differentiation,T(Infiltration depth),N(Lymph node metastasis),staging,postoperative metastasis and metastatic site(P<0.05)were found to be the prognostic factors.CONCLUSION:The Uyghur CRC patients are associated with significantly younger age,more aggressive histopathologic characteristics and have significantly worse prognosis than the Han/Chinese patients.Akram Yusup Hai-Jiang Wang Azmat Rahmutula Parhat Sayim Ze-Liang Zhao Guo-Qing Zhang 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,41:14

6Fabrication of NiFe layered double hydroxide with well-defined laminar superstructure as highly efficient oxygen evolution electrocatalysts显示文摘Structure-activity relationship (SAR) is the key problem of nanoscience,thus to fabricate novel and well-defined nanostructure will provide a new insight on catalyst preparation method.Highly active and low cost electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are of great importance for future renewable energy conversion and storage.Herein,NiFe-based layered double hydroxides with laminar structure (NFLS) were successfully fabricated via a one-step hydrothermal approach by using sodium dodecyl sulfate as surfactant.The as-fabricated NFLS showed a well-defined periodic layered-stacking geometry with a scale down to 1-nm.Benefitting from the unique structure,NFLS exhibited an excellent catalytic activity towards OER with current densities of 10 mA·cm^-2 at overpotential of 197 mV.The synergistic effect of Ni and Fe plays a key role in electrode reactions.The present work provides a new insight to improve the OER performance by rational design of electrocatalysts with unique structures.Hao Zhang Haoyi Li Bilal Akram Xun Wang 2019Nano Research2019,12,6:10
7Isolation and efficacy of entomopathogenic fungus(Metarhizium anisopliae)for the control of Aedes albopictus Skuse larvae:suspected dengue vector in Pakistan显示文摘Objective:To isolate the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhixium anisopliae(M.anisopliae) in the local environment,and evaluate its efficacy against the suspected dengue vector Aedes albopictus in Pakistan.Methods:According to the standard procedure,M.anisopliae was isolated from the dead mosquitoes which were collected from the field or dead after the collection.Bioassay was performed to determine its efficacy.Results:The results indicated that M.anisopliae had larvicidal effect with LC,value 1.09×10~5 and LC_(50) value 1.90×10^(13) while it took 45.41 h to kill 50% of tested population.Conclusions:Taking long time to kill 50%population when compare with the synthetic insecticides,is the only drawback for the use of entomopathogenic fungus but these bio-pesticides are safe for the use.Hazrat Bilal Soaib Ali Hassan Imtinan Akram Khan 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,4:8
8Adsorptive removal of phosphate by the bimetallic hydroxide nanocomposites embedded in pomegranate peel显示文摘This study aimed to fabricate new and effective material for the efficiency of phosphate adsorption.Two types of adsorbent materials,the zirconium hydroxides embedded in pomegranate peel(Zr/Peel)and zirconium-lanthanum hydroxides embedded in pomegranate peel(Zr-La/Peel)were developed.Scanning electronic microscopy(SEM),x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and x-ray diffraction(XRD)were evaluated to give insight into the physicochemical properties of these adsorbents.Zr-La/Peel exceeded the adsorption efficiency of Zr/Peel adsorbents in batch adsorption experiments at the same pH level.The peel as a host can strive to have a strong'shielding effect'to increase the steadiness of the entrenched Zr and La elements.La and Zr are hydroxide metals that emit many hydrogen ions during the hydrolysis reaction,which contribute to protonation and electrostatic attraction.The highest adsorption capacity of La-Zr/Peel for phosphate was calculated to be40.21 mg/g,and pseudo second-order equation is very well fitted for kinetic adsorption.Phosphate adsorption efficiency was reduced by an increase of pH.With the background of coexisting Cl-,little effect on adsorption efficiency was observed,while adsorption capacities were reduced by almost 20-30%with the coexistence of SO42-,NO3-and humic acid(HA).Muhammad Akram Xing Xu Baoyu Gao Qinyan Yue Shang Yanan Rizwan Khan Muhammad Ali Inam 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,5:8

11Effects of medicinal plants on Alzheimer's disease and memory deficits显示文摘Alzheimer's disease is an age-related neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory deficits. Various studies have been carried out to find therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease. However, the proper treatment option is still not available. There is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, but symptomatic treatment may improve the memory and other dementia related problems. Traditional medicine is practiced worldwide as memory enhancer since ancient times. Natural therapy including herbs and medicinal plants has been used in the treatment of memory deficits such as dementia, amnesia, as well as Alzheimer's disease since a long time. Medicinal plants have been used in different systems of medicine, particularly Unani system of medicines and exhibited their powerful roles in the management and cure of memory disorders. Most of herbs and plants have been chemically evaluated and their efficacy has also been proven in clinical trials. However, the underlying mechanisms of actions are still on the way. 12Expression of trefoil factors and TWIST1 in colorectal cancer and their correlation with metastatic potential and prognosis显示文摘AIM To detect the expression of trefoil factors(TFFs)and TWIST1 in colorectal cancer(CRC)and analyze their correlation with metastasis and survival.METHODS This study examined the expression of TFF1,TFF3 and TWIST1 in a total of 75 tumor samples,47 matched normal samples(15 cm from the lesion margin),30metastatic lymph nodes,and 10 liver metastatic cancer samples from patients with CRC.The relationship was then analyzed between the protein expression and different clinical records.TFF1,TFF3,TWIST1,E-cadherin,vimentin andβ-catenin m RNA and protein expression levels were measured in colon cancer cell lines with different metastatic potentials(HIEC,HT29,SW620,and Lo Vo cells),and the correlation of the expression levels with epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)was discussed.RESULTS It was found that 66.7%(50/75),78.7%(59/75)and54.7%(41/75)of tumor tissue samples exhibited positive staining for TFF1,TFF3 and TWIST1 and so did 27.3%(13/47),100%(47/47)and 17%(8/47)of adjacent normal colorectal tissues.Compared with adjacent normal tissues,significant differences were found in the expression of all three proteins in different cancerous tissues(P<0.05).Higher expression of TFF3 and TWIST1 was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis(P=0.034,P=0.000),advanced stage(P=0.031,P=0.003),and poorer survival(P=0.042 for the TFF3 group,P=0.003for the TWIST1 group).The expression of TFF3 and TWIST1 in cancer cell lines was higher than that in HIEC(a normal human intestinal epithelial cell line)(P<0.05),and the expression intensity demonstrated a tendency to rise with increased metastatic potential both at the protein and m RNA levels.However,TFF1expression demonstrated the opposite tendency.It was also observed that the expression of E-cadherin andβ-catenin tended to decrease while that of vimentin,TWIST1 and Snail tended to rise with the increase in metastatic potential.CONCLUSION The expression of TFF3 and TWIST1 might be associated with the survival of patients with CRC after curative resection and might be pivotal predictors of disease progression.TFF3 may be correlated to the invasiveness of CRC.Akram Yusup Bailikezi Huji Cheng Fang Fei Wang Tuerxunjiang Dadihan Hai-Jiang Wang Halmurat Upur 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,1:7
13Persistent alanine aminotransferase elevation among the general Iranian population: Prevalence and causes显示文摘AIM: To determine the prevalence and causes of persistently elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels among the general population in northern Iran. METHODS: A total of 2292 (1376 female, aged 18-75 year), were selected by systematic clustered random sampling from the cities and villages of Gonbad and Kalaleh in Golestan Province and invited to participate in the study. A comprehensive history regarding alcohol drinking and medication was taken. Body mass index (BMI), viral markers and ALT levels were measured. If ALT level was ≥ 40 U/L, it was rechecked twice within 6 mo. Those with ≥ 2 times elevation of ALT were considered as having persistently elevated ALT level. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) was diagnosed based on evidence of fatty liver upon sonography and excluding other etiology. RESULTS: A total of 2049 (1351 female) patients participated in the study, 162 (7.9%) had elevated ALT level at the first measurement. Persistently elevated ALT level was detected in 64 (3.1%) participants, with51 (79.6%) with no obvious etiology, six (9.3%) with Hepatitis B, four (6.2%) with Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and three (4.6%) with alcoholic hepatitis. The prevalence of NAFLD and alcoholic hepatitis was 2.04% (42 patients) and 0.1% (three), respectively. There was correlation between NAFLD and male gender, overweight, diabetes and living in an urban area [odds ratio = 3.03 (95% CI: 1.6-5.72), 4.21 (95% CI: 1.83-9.68), 2.86 (95% CI: 1.05-7.79) and 2.04 (95% CI: 1.00-4.16) respectively]. 14方波脉冲下纳米氧化铝掺杂对聚酰亚胺表面放电特性影响显示文摘聚酰亚胺薄膜(polyimide,PI)以其卓越的介电性能广泛应用于变频电机匝间绝缘,纳米掺杂能改善PI膜的绝缘性能。为研究方波条件下纳米Al_2O_3对PI膜表面放电特性的影响,文中将粒径为60nm的Al_2O_3纳米粒子作为无机填料添加到PI基体中,制作了掺杂量为1%,2%,5%,7%,10%的PI薄膜。测量了PI/Al_2O_3薄膜耐电晕性能和局部放电次数随温度的变化,用扫描电镜(scanning electron microscope,SEM)观察了放电前后PI/Al_2O_3薄膜微观形貌。利用傅里叶红外光谱(Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,FTIR)测试了复合薄膜老化前后的化学键情况。研究结果表明:纳米Al_2O_3在PI基体中弥散分布,PI/Al_2O_3复合薄膜的红外吸收峰与纯PI膜基本一致,但吸收峰深度有所加强。老化4h后PI/Al_2O_3分子链上的C-O-C(醚键)以及C-N-C(酰亚胺环)消失,其余化学键吸收峰有所减弱;Al_2O_3纳米粒子的掺入提高了复合薄膜的耐电晕性能并减少了局部放电次数。并且温度的上升会导致局部放电次数减少。表面放电导致的化学键断裂是复合薄膜降解的主要原因,纳米粒子所引入的两相界面以及其优良的导热性能提高了复合薄膜的绝缘性能。刘洋 吴广宁 高国强 AKRAM SHAEEL 钟鑫 朱健 2016中国电机工程学报2016,36,4:7
15Hydrogen evolution and electromigration in the corrosion of aluminium metal sheath inside high‐voltage cables显示文摘The urgent need for power transmission is the reason for leading research on the safer operation of high‐voltage cables.These high‐voltage cables are emerging as an efficient technology for underground power transmission.However,the electrochemical corrosion of aluminium(Al)metal sheaths in these cables is a common and challenging degradation process.Herein,the corrosion mechanisms and electrochemical analysis are investigated by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and laboratory‐designed electro-chemical characterisation techniques.In the corrosion experiments,the authors evaluated the corrosion rate by measuring the release rate of hydrogen gas and explored the different roles of sodium polyacrylate(NaPA)during the corrosion process.It is found that the complexation reactions between NaPA and Al inhibited corrosion while increased the resistance of the buffer layer.The proposed mechanisms of corrosion in this study can improve the lifespan and sustainability of high‐voltage power transmission.Yidong Chen Kai Zhou Jiamin Kong Shakeel Akram Xiancheng Ren Xiaoshan Zhang Yuan Li Qi Zhao 2022High Voltage2022,7,2:7
16Optimization of energy consumption and environmental impacts of chickpea production using data envelopment analysis(DEA)and multi objective genetic algorithm(MOGA)approaches显示文摘Energy consumption in agricultural products and its environmental damages has increased in recent centuries.Life cycle assessment(LCA)has been introduced as a suitable tool for evaluation environmental impacts related to a product over its life cycle.In this study,optimization of energy consumption and environmental impacts of chickpea production was conducted using data envelopment analysis(DEA)and multi objective genetic algorithm(MOGA)techniques.Data were collected from 110 chickpea production enterprises using a face to face questionnaire in the cropping season of 2014-2015.The results of optimization revealed that,when applying MOGA,optimum energy requirement for chickpea production was significantly lower compared to application of DEA technique;so that,total energy requirement in optimum situation was found to be 31511.72 and 27570.61 MJ ha^-1 by using DEA and MOGA techniques,respectively;showing a reduction by 5.11%and 17%relative to current situation of energy consumption.Optimization of environmental impacts by application of MOGA resulted in reduction of acidification potential(ACP),eutrophication potential(EUP),global warming potential(GWP),human toxicity potential(HTP)and terrestrial ecotoxicity potential(TEP)by 29%,23%,10%,6%and 36%,respectively.MOGAwas capable of reducing the energy consumption from machinery,farmyard manure(FYM)diesel fuel and nitrogen fertilizer(the mostly contributed inputs to the environmental emissions)by 59%,28.5%,24.58%and 11.24%,respectively.Overall,the MOGA technique showed a superior performance relative to DEA approach for optimizing energy inputs and reducing environmental impacts of chickpea production system.Behzad Elhami Asadollah Akram Majid Khanali 2016Information Processing in Agriculture2016,3,3:6
172015年4月25日尼泊尔地震波场传播及烈度初步模拟分析显示文摘2015年4月25日尼泊尔发生Mw7.9地震.本文采用三维曲线坐标网格有限差分方法,依据USGS给出的震源运动学反演结果和震源区域地形数据,模拟了尼泊尔地震波场传播过程,得到震源区域烈度分布模拟结果,与实际观测的地表峰值速度(PGV)大体吻合.结果表明:地震烈度的空间分布整体上受控于震源的单边破裂特征,高烈度区域主要分布在破裂传播方向上,即震源东半部.震源南侧到东南侧近场,由于受到震源和地形的双重影响,形成最大烈度分布区域,最大烈度约为IX.南侧平原受低速沉积层影响形成高烈度区域.震源西侧及盆地内烈度相对较低.徐剑侠 张振国 戴文杰 张伟 Naveed Akram 文健 陈晓非 2015地球物理学报2015,58,5:6
18赣南地热水形成条件分析与赣县区地热水勘查靶区圈定显示文摘为巩固脱贫攻坚成果,迈向乡村振兴,赣县人民梦寐以求在赣县探测到地热水资源。本文探讨了赣南山地隆起区构造裂隙地热水形成规律,分析了江西赣南地区地热水形成的条件:①燕山-喜山期岩浆侵入、热液活动是热供给来源;②红层盆地中巨厚的白垩系是储热盖层;③元古代至早古生代浅变质岩分布区岩石受多期次构造运动作用,裂隙发育、岩体破碎,有利于地表水下渗,是地下水的主要补给区;④深大断裂是沟通深部热水汇聚的隔水/导水构造,东西向、北西向、南北向一般断裂与深大断裂形成有利的蓄水构造;⑤受到地球运动和近现代构造应力场作用,赣南地区深层地下水总体由东向西运移,并在张裂型、弯凹型和交叉型三种蓄水构造类型中汇聚。初步建立了赣南地区地热水成因模式,提出赣南地热水分布规律是在南东盘为变质岩或花岗岩、北西盘为红层盆地的北东向深大断裂,并且与其他方向断层交叉部位,或者深大断裂呈弧形并向西凸出的弯凹位置。根据赣县地质特征,提出赣县地热水资源勘查靶区是江口镇河坑村、茅店镇汶潭村和大埠乡头塅村三处。建议采用地下水运移监测、地球物理探测、水文地质钻探等技术手段进行勘查。文章为赣县区实现地热水勘查重大突破提供了科学依据。黄长生 侯保全 易秤云 李龙 张胜男 周耘 Waseem Akram 王芳婷 2021华南地质2021,37,1:6
19Healthy ranges of serum alanine aminotransferase levels in Iranian blood donors显示文摘AIM: The healthy ranges for serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT) levels are less well studied. The aim of this study was to define the upper limit of normal (ULN) for serum ALT levels, and to assess factors associated with serum ALT activity in apparently healthy blood donors. METHODS: A total of 1 939 blood donors were included.ALT measurements were performed for all cases using the same laboratory method. Healthy ranges for ALT levels werecomputed from the population at the lowest risk for liver disease. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate associations between clinical factors and ALT levels.RESULTS: Serum ALT activity was independently associated with body mass index (BMI) and male gender, but not associated with age. Association of ALT with BMI was more prominent in males than in females. Upper limit of normal for non-overweight women (BMI of less than 25) was 34 U/L,and for non-overweight men was 40 U/L.CONCLUSION: Serum ALT is strongly associated with sex and BMI. 20Combined application of Artificial Neural Networks and life cycle assessment in lentil farming in Iran显示文摘In this study,an Artificial Neural Network(ANN)was applied to model yield and environmental emissions from lentil cultivation in Esfahan province of Iran.Data was gathered from lentil farmers using face to face questionnaire method during 2014–2015 cropping season.Life cycle assessment(LCA)was applied to investigate the environmental impact categories associated with lentil production.Based on the results,total energy input,energy output to input ratio and energy productivity were determined to be 32,970.10 MJ ha1,0.902 and 0.06 kg MJ1,respectively.The greatest amount of energy consumption was attributed to chemical fertilizer(42.76%).Environmental analysis indicated that the acidification potential was higher than other environmental impact categories in lentil production system.Also results showed that the production of agricultural machinery was the main hotspot in abiotic depletion,eutrophication,global warming,human toxicity,fresh water aquatic ecotoxicity,marine aquatic ecotoxicity and terrestrial ecotoxicity impact categories,while direct emissions associated with lentil cultivation was the main hotspot in acidification potential and photochemical oxidation potential.In addition,diesel fuel was the main hotspot only in ozone layer depletion.The ANN model with 9-10-6-11 structure was identified as the most appropriate network for predicting yield and related environmental impact categories of lentil cultivation.Overall,the results of sensitivity analysis revealed that farmyard manure had the greatest effect on the most of the environmental impacts,while machinery was the most affecting parameter on the yield of the crop.Behzad Elhami Majid Khanali Asadollah Akram 2017Information Processing in Agriculture2017,4,1:6
