1Physical exercise in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Dementia is one of the greatest global challenges for health and social care in the 21st century.Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the most common type of dementia,is by no means an inevitable consequence of growing old.Several lifestyle factors may increase,or reduce,an individual’s risk of developing AD.Much has been written over the ages about the benefits of exercise and physical activity.Among the risk factors associated with AD is a low level of physical activity.The relationship between physical and mental health was established several years ago.In this review,we discuss the role of exercise(aerobic and resistance)training as a therapeutic strategy for the treatment and prevention of AD.Older adults who exercise are more likely to maintain cognition.We address the main protective mechanism on brain function modulated by physical exercise by examining both human and animal studies.We will pay especial attention to the potential role of exercise in the modulation of amyloid b turnover,inflammation,synthesis and release of neurotrophins,and improvements in cerebral blood flow.Promoting changes in lifestyle in presymptomatic and predementia disease stages may have the potential for delaying one-third of dementias worldwide.Multimodal interventions that include the adoption of an active lifestyle should be recommended for older populations.Adrian De la Rosa Gloria Olaso-Gonzalez Coralie Arc-Chagnaud Fernando Millan Andrea Salvador-Pascual Consolacion Garcıa-Lucerga Cristina Blasco-Lafarga Esther Garcia-Dominguez Aitor Carretero Angela G.Correas Jose Vina Mari Carmen Gomez-Cabrera 2020Journal of Sport and Health Science2020,9,5:32

4Elutriation, attrition and segregation in a conical spouted bed with a fountain confiner显示文摘This study examined elutriation,attrition,and segregation in a conical spouted bed with a fountain confiner and incorporating an open sided draft tube.Fine silica sand with a wide particle size distribution was employed as a model material,operating in both the batch and continuous modes.The use of a fountain confiner is crucial when operating with fine particles,because otherwise the bed rapidly exhibits significant entrainment.The extent of attrition was quantified using a tracing technique based on differently-coloured sand fractions as well as monitoring size distributions by sieving.Particle breakage was found to be the primary attrition mechanism,and the fountain confiner was determined to limit the elutriation of fine particles resulting from breakage.Consequently,only a small fraction of the finest particles were entrained from the bed.The incorporation of a confiner increased operational stability while reducing segregation,especially in the upper half of the bed where the majority of segregation typically occurs.Thus,the bed was perfectly mixed apart from very minimal segregation close to the wall and at the bottom of the contactor.These results provide a basis for the design and operation of larger scale equipment for the continuous drying of materials.Aitor Pablos Roberto Aguado Jorge Vicente Mikel Tellabide Javier Bilbao Martin Olazar 2020Particuology2020,18,4:2
5Ultra-broadband nanophotonic phase shifter based on subwavelength metamaterial waveguides显示文摘Optical phase shifters are extensively used in integrated optics not only for telecom and datacom applications but also for sensors and quantum computing.While various active solutions have been demonstrated,progress in passive phase shifters is still lacking.Here we present a new type of ultra-broadband 90°phase shifter,which exploits the anisotropy and dispersion engineering in subwavelength metamaterial waveguides.Our Floquet–Bloch calculations predict a phase-shift error below 1.7°over an unprecedented operation range from 1.35 to 1.75μm,i.e.,400 nm bandwidth covering the E,S,C,L,and U telecommunication bands.The flat spectral response of our phase shifter is maintained even in the presence of fabrication errors up to 20 nm,showing greater robustness than conventional structures.Our device was experimentally demonstrated using standard220 nm thick SOI wafers,showing a fourfold reduction in the phase variation compared to conventional phase shifters within the 145 nm wavelength range of our measurement setup.The proposed subwavelength engineered phase shifter paves the way for novel photonic integrated circuits with an ultra-broadband performance.DAVID GONZáLEZ-ANDRADE JOSéMANUEL LUQUE-GONZáLEZ J.GONZALO WANGüEMERT-PéREZ ALEJANDRO ORTEGA-MONUX PAVEL CHEBEN íNIGO MOLINA-FERNáNDEZ AITOR V.VELASCO 2020Photonics Research2020,8,3:2

19Neuropilin-1: A feasible link between liver pathologies and COVID-19显示文摘The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)pandemic has a tremendous impact on the health of millions of people worldwide.Unfortunately,those suffering from previous pathological conditions are more vulnerable and tend to develop more severe disease upon infection with the new SARS-CoV-2.This coronavirus interacts with the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptor to invade the cells.Recently,another receptor,neuropilin-1(NRP-1),has been reported to amplify the viral infection.Interestingly,NRP-1 is expressed in nonparenchymal liver cells and is related to and upregulated in a wide variety of liver-related pathologies.It has been observed that SARS-CoV-2 infection promotes liver injury through several pathways that may be influenced by the previous pathological status of the patient and liver expression of NRP-1.Moreover,coronavirus disease 2019 causes an inflammatory cascade called cytokine storm in patients with severe disease.This cytokine storm may influence liver sinusoidal-cell phenotype,facilitating viral invasion.In this review,the shreds of evidence linking NRP-1 with liver pathologies such as hepatocellular carcinoma,liver fibrosis,nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and inflammatory disorders are discussed in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection.In addition,the involvement of the infection-related cytokine storm in NRP-1 overexpression and the subsequent increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection are also analyzed.This review aims to shed some light on the involvement of liver NRP-1 during SARSCoV-2 infection and emphasizes the possible involvement this receptor with the observed liver damage.Aitor Benedicto Iñigo García-Kamiruaga Beatriz Arteta 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,24:1
