17Recent SARS-CoV-2 Outlook and Implications in a COVID-19 Vaccination Era显示文摘While repurposed drugs came in handy earlier in the wake of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,vaccination has been considered a more sustainable approach.The recent spikes have been linked to“double,”“triple,”and even multi-mutant variants,thus renewing calls for deeper structural and functional insights of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)as a lead to rationale design of therapeutics,vaccines,and point-of-care diagnostics.There is a repertoire of findings from the earliest SARS-CoV-2 molecular mimicry to evade host immunity cum host immune responses to the role of the viral glycocalyx in modulating the susceptibility and severity of infection through attraction and repulsive interactions.Recently,molecular studies of some viral components that aid infection in the face of vaccination seem unending.In addition,the wave of infections and the attendant case fatality ratios have necessitated the need for emergency use authorizations for COVID-19 vaccines and in vitro diagnostics.This review provides key updates of SARS-CoV-2,current antigenic and formulation strategies,with emergency use authorizations considerations for future vaccine candidates and diagnostics.We also premise that despite the difficulty in modeling and analyzing glycans,understanding and exploiting their roles in the SARS-CoV-2 architecture is fundamental to glycan-based COVID-19 vaccines devoid of inconsistent clinical outcomes.Teddy Ehianeta Said Abdulrahman Salim Mzee Muslimat Kehinde Adebisi Oluwayemisi Ehianeta 2021Infectious Microbes & Diseases2021,3,3:0
18Prediction of Facial Height, Width, and Ratio from Thumbprints Ridge Count and its Possible Applications显示文摘The fingerprints and face recognition are two biometric processes that comprise methods for uniquely recognizing humans based on certain number of intrinsic physical or behavioral traits.The objectives of the study were to predict the facial height(FH),facial width,and ratios from thumbprints ridge count and its possible applications.This was a cross-sectional study.A total of 457 participants were recruited.A fingerprint live scanner was used to capture the plain thumbprint.The facial photograph was captured using a digital camera.Pearson’s correlation analysis was used for the relationship between thumbprint ridge density and facial linear dimensions.Step‑wise linear multiple regression analysis was used to predict facial distances from thumbprint ridge density.The result showed that in males the right ulnar ridge count correlates negatively with lower facial width(LFW),upper facial width/upper FH(UFW/UFH),lower FH/FH(LFH/FH),and positively with UFH and UFW/LFW.The right and left proximal ridge counts correlate with LFW and UFH,respectively.In males,the right ulnar ridge count predicts LFW,UFW/LFW,UFW/UFH,and LFH/FH.Special upper face height I,LFW,height of lower third of the face,UFW/LFW was predicted by right radial ridge counts.LFH,height of lower third of the face,and LFH/FH were predicted from left ulnar ridge count whereas left proximal ridge count predicted LFW.In females only,the special upper face height I was predicted by right ulnar ridge count.In conclusion,thumbprint ridge counts can be used to predict FH,width,ratios among Hausa population.The possible application of fingerprints in facial characterization for used in human biology,paleodemography,and forensic science was demonstrated.Lawan Hassan Adamu Samuel Adeniyi Ojo Barnabas Danborno Samuel Sunday Adebisi Magaji Garba Taura 2017Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2017,3,4:0

20Thermal Indices Influence on Occupants’ Window Opening Behaviours: A Case of Ibadan and Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria显示文摘Window opening operations are considered as one of the significant way of regulating indoor climate and maintaining thermal comfort in buildings,even when alternative active devices such as fans and air conditioners are available.This study investigates responses of occupants of the traditional core areas of Ibadan and Ogbomoso to thermal comfort conditions(thermal stress)through window opening behaviours.Climatic data of the two cities were subjected to Evans scale to predict their day and night thermal stress and questionnaires were administered to know how occupants respond to changing thermal conditions through window opening behaviours.Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in analysing the data.The study found the morning periods to be the most comfortable,the afternoon periods offer the most hot discomfort condition and cold discomfort is mostly experienced in the evening periods in both cities.Findings revealed that majority of occupants in both cities prefer to keep their windows opened in the morning and afternoon periods and an increase was observed in the numbers of occupants who prefer to keep their windows closed in the evening periods.This is an indication that building occupants in both cities actively respond to thermal stress using window opening operations.Results obtained from chi square analysis concluded that there is a significant relationship between occupants’window opening behaviour and thermal conditions at different periods of the day in both cities.Recommendations were given on how to improve on window opening systems in the future.Ayinla Abdulrasaq Kunle Adebisi Ilelabayo Ismail Olaoye Olubunmi Adedayo Aina Emmanuel Oloruntoba 2021Journal of Architectural Environment & Structural Engineering Research2021,4,1:0
