1Antioxidant and antipyretic studies on Pothos scandens L显示文摘Objective:To investigate Pothos scandens for the in vitro antioxidant and antipyretic activity. Methods:Preliminary phylochemicals, total phenolics and flavonoid contents were analyzed in leaf, stem and root samples. In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by different assays such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radical scavenging,2,2’-azinobis -3-ethylbenzolhiazoline-6-sulphonic acid(ABTS+) radical scavenging,ferric-reducing antioxidant power(FRAP) assay, phosphomolybdenum reduction assay, metal chelating activity, superoxide anion radical scavenging activity, hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide scavenging assay. The antipyretic activity of root methanol extract was studied by pyrexia induced by brewer’s yeast on Wistar albino rats at concentration of 200 and 400 mg/kg using paracetamol as standard drug. Results:The total phenolics and tannin content were found to be higher in elhanol extract of stem, whereas total flavonoid content was higher in acetone extract of root. The methanol extract of root showed highest free radical scavenging activity in assays namely ABTS assay(8 221.5μM TE/g extract),FRAP assay[514.4 mM Fe(Ⅱ)/g extract],hydrogen peroxide (60.3%) and nitric oxide scavenging assays(58.7%).The DPPH assay and superoxide radical assay results revealed that the ethanol extract of root has remarkable free radical scavenging capacity(IC50 0.284 mg/mL and 70.84%).The antipyretic studies on methanol extract of root showed significant reduction of temperature in pyrexia induced rats at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses. Conclusions:These findings justify that Pothos scan/km can be a valuable natural antioxidant and antipyretic source which seemed to provide potential nutraccuticals for human health.Thankarajan Sajeesh Karuppusamy Arunachalam Tangaraj Parimelazhagan 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,11:6
2Open Access and the Developing World显示文摘Till about 15 years ago, almost all information exchange among scientists and scholars was mediated by print and even then researchers in the developing countries were at a great disadvantage as their libraries did not have the resources to subscribe in comparison with even a small fraction of journals libraries in advanced countries. But the Internet and the World Wide Web initially exacerbated the gap between the rich and the poor countries, as many poor countries were slow to acquire these technologies and the infrastructure (especially bandwidth). Soon it became clear that thanks to these technologies we now have the unprecedented opportunity of having a level playing field in the matter of accessing scientific and scholarly information. Transforming this opportunity into reality is entirely in the hands of the researchers themselves. Imagine a world where every scientist places his/ her research papers, which (s)he wants to give away so others can read and make use of, in a public archive. Anyone anywhere in the world, of course having an Internet connection, can access, download, and read those papers. This is a win-win situation for all: the reader gets to read what he wants to read at very little cost; the author gains greater visibility for his work and the work reported is likely to have greater impact than if it were to be made available only through a toll-access journal. Although the logic is so simple, in reality such archives were not coming up for a very long time. In spite of the fact that computer scientists and physicists had shown about 15 years ago the great advantages of such archives. Recent studies by Alma Swan and others have shown that a very large proportion of scientists are not aware of open access and therefore what we need is focused advocacy. Even among those who know of OA, many are not depositing their papers in archives but say they would if they are asked by their bosses or their funding agencies. Clearly the ball is in the court of scientists and policy makers. OA is especially advantageous to the developing countries as the current access to literatures is poorest in these countries.Subbiah Arunachalam 2006图书情报工作2006,50,1:4
3Antidiabetic activity of aqueous root extract of Merremia tridentata(L.) Hall,f.in streptozotocin-induced—diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antidiabetic effect of aqueous extract of Merremia Iridentala (M.tridentala) root(MTRAE) in normal,glucose-loaded hyperglycemic and streptozotoein(STZ)induced diabetic rats. Methods:Oral administration of MTRAE at the doses of 50,100 and 150 nig/kg was studied in normal,glucose-loaded and STZ-diabetie rats. The three doses caused significant reduction in blood glucose levels in all the models. Results:The effect was more pronounced in 100 and 150 mg/kg than 50 mg/kg.MTRAK also showed significaut increase in serum insulin, body weight and glycogen content in liver and skeletal muscle of STZ-induced dialietie rats while there was significant reduction in the levels of serum triglyceride and total cholesterol.MTRAE also showed significant antilipidperoxidative effect in the pancreas of STZinduced diabetic rats. The antidiabetic effect of M.tridentata was compared with glibenclamide. a well known hypoglycemic drug. Conclusions:The results indicate that aqueous extract of M. tridentata root possesses significant antidiabetic activity.Karuppusamy Arunachalam Thangaraj Parimelazhagan 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,3:3

8Fuzzy Tuned PID Controller for Envisioned Agricultural Manipulator显示文摘The implementation of image-based phenotyping systems has become an important aspect of crop and plant science research which has shown tremendous growth over the years. Accurate determination of features using images requires stable imaging and very precise processing. By installing a camera on a mechanical arm driven by motor, the maintenance of accuracy and stability becomes non-trivial. As per the state-of-the-art, the issue of external camera shake incurred due to vibration is a great concern in capturing accurate images, which may be induced by the driving motor of the manipulator. So, there is a requirement for a stable active controller for sufficient vibration attenuation of the manipulator. However, there are very few reports in agricultural practices which use control algorithms. Although, many control strategies have been utilized to control the vibration in manipulators associated to various applications, no control strategy with validated stability has been provided to control the vibration in such envisioned agricultural manipulator with simple low-cost hardware devices with the compensation of non-linearities. So, in this work, the combination of proportional-integral-differential(PID) control with type-2 fuzzy logic(T2-F-PID) is implemented for vibration control. The validation of the controller stability using Lyapunov analysis is established. A torsional actuator(TA) is applied for mitigating torsional vibration, which is a new contribution in the area of agricultural manipulators. Also, to prove the effectiveness of the controller, the vibration attenuation results with T2-F-PID is compared with conventional PD/PID controllers, and a type-1 fuzzy PID(T1-F-PID) controller.Satyam Paul Ajay Arunachalam Davood Khodadad Henrik Andreasson Olena Rubanenko 2021International Journal of Automation and computing2021,18,4:2
