2Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein activates splenic T cells during sepsis in a TLR4-dependent manner显示文摘Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRP) is a novel inflammatory mediator that stimulates the release of proinflammatory cytokines from macrophages in sepsis. Given the immune dysregulation that characterizes sepsis, the effect of CIRP on other immune cells is an area of increasing interest that has not yet been studied. In the present study, we hypothesized that extracellular CIRP promotes activation of T lymphocytes in the spleen during sepsis. We observed that mice subjected to sepsis by cecal ligation and puncture showed significantly higher expression of the early activation markers CD69 and CD25 at 20 h on CD4+ splenic T cells, and significantly higher CD69 expression on CD8+ splenic T cells compared with sham-operated controls. Furthermore, at 20 h after receiving intravenous injection of recombinant murine CIRP (rmCIRP, 5 mg/kg body weight (BW)) or PBS (vehicle), those mice receiving rmCIRP showed significantly increased expression of CD69 and CD25 on both CD4+ and CD8+ splenic T cells. This effect, however, was not seen in TLR4-deficient mice after rmCIRP injection. In addition, treatment with CIRP predisposed CD4+ T cells to a Th1 hyperinflammatory response profile, and influenced CD8+ T cells toward a cytotoxic profile. 14Salivary gland disease in human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome: A review显示文摘The effect of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infection on salivary glands has diagnostic and prognostic significance. HIV-salivary gland disease(HIV-SGD) is comprehensively ascertained amongst the major critical acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS)-relatedoral manifestation and causes substantial morbidity. Parotid gland swelling due to sicca syndrome, parotid lipomatosis, sialadenitis, diffuse infiltrative lymphocytosis syndrome, benign lymphoepithelial lesions, neoplasms(benign or malignant) of salivary gland, parotid gland inflammation, diminished flow rates of saliva and xerostomia have been documented that also affects the health- associated characteristics of life in subjects infected with HIV. There is a necessity for health care researchers to diagnose it, particularly as it might worsen if left undiagnosed. The precise characteristic of alterations in dynamics of salivary gland structure and functionality with long-standing usage of highly active anti-retroviral therapy still remains unknown. HIV positive children also present with bilateral parotid enlargement and the syndrome state with classical clinical and cytological features of predominated lymphoid hyperplasia. Though various case reports and studies have been extensively published on different aspects of HIV-SGD, it has not been described solely, thus leading to occasional confusion of nomenclature and clinical presentation of HIV-SGD. 15Mass Disaster: Will Dental Records be Effectively Useful in Developing Nations?显示文摘Sir,Dentistry is growing at a rapid rate and now there is certainly an increased awareness of oral health care among the general population of developing nations.There are numerous studies conducted on the important role of forensic odontology in developing nations.However,I have always been intrigued about whether in case of a mass disaster,the records of the patients would actually be available to the concerned forensic odontologist or the forensics team.There is a lack of any common record of the patients in resource‑constrained nations.The data is obtained by general dental practitioners but most of the time,the data is not recorded in either soft copy(through digital imaging)or conventional intraoral periapical film and is generally lost.The obvious reason for this is the lack of any archiving system.There is no compulsion to keep the records of the patients and thus,valuable data is lost.We would like to recommend a system for archiving records that can be cited in a website.However,there are certain practical difficulties involved such as the lack of any dental insurance scheme in emerging nations due to which the general dental practitioners may lack the motivation to archive records and place these records on a website.Moreover,the practitioners would feel uncomfortable placing their patients’records on a common website.Gaurav Sharma Archna Nagpal 2015Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2015,1,1:0

17Biotechnological interventions for the sustainable management of a global pest,whitefly(Bemisia tabaci)显示文摘Whiteflies(Bemisia tabaci)are polyphagous invasive hemipteran insects that cause serious losses of important crops by directly feeding on phloem sap and transmitting pathogenic viruses.These insects have emerged as a major threat to global agriculture and food security.Chemically synthesized insecticides are currently the only option to control whiteflies,but the ability of whiteflies to evolve resistance against insecticides has made the management of these insects very difficult.Natural host-plant resistance against whiteflies identified in some crop plants has not been exploited to a great extent.Genetic engineering approaches,such as transgenics and RNA interference(RNAi),are potentially useful for the control of whiteflies.Transgenic plants harboring insecticidal toxins/lectins developed via nuclear or chloroplast transformation are a promising vehicle for whitefly control.Double-stranded RNAs(dsRNAs)of several insect genes,delivered either through microinjection into the insect body cavity or orally via an artificial diet and transiently or stably expressed in transgenic plants,have controlled whiteflies in model plants and in some crops at the laboratory level,but not at the field level.In this review,we highlight the merits and demerits of each delivery method along with strategies for sustained delivery of dsRNAs via fungal entomopathogen/endosymbiont or nontransgenic RNAi approaches,foliar sprays,root absorption or nanocarriers as well as the factors affecting efficient RNAi and their biosafety issues.Genome sequencing and transcriptome studies of whitefly species are facilitating the selection of appropriate genes for RNAi and gene-editing technology for the efficient and resilient management of whiteflies and their transmitted viruses.Archna Suhag Honey Yadav Darshna Chaudhary S.Subramanian Ranjana Jaiwal Pawan K.Jaiwal 2021Insect Science2021,28,5:0
