Initial detections and spread of invasive Spodoptera frugiperda in China and comparisons with other noctuid larvae in cornfields using molecular techniques显示文摘The fall armyworm,Spodoptera frugiperda,is a species native to the Americas and has spread to many countries in Africa and Asia in recent years.Proactive actions for potential invasion of S.frugiperda to China coordinated by government agencies and agricultural extension systems resulted in timely detection in January 2019 in Yunnan province neighboring onto Myanmar. The extensive monitoring in southern provinces of China since February 2019 resulted in dynamic tracking of S.frugiperda spreading to 13 provincial regions in China within 4 months by May 10,2019,which is crucial for timely management actions in the fields. The first detections of S.frugiperda(corn strain)in China were confirmed using cytochrome oxidase subunit 1(COl)and triosephosphate isomerase(Tpi)genes molecular marker method. In addition to S.frugiperda, larvae of three other noctuid species with similar morphological appearance(S.litura,S.exigna and Mythimna separata)can occur simultaneously and cause similar damage in cornfields in southern China. Thus,we can use both morphological and molecular marker methods to compare larval stages of four noctuid species.Further,we discuss the risk of potential spread of invasive S.frugiperda to other regions and impact on corn production in China. | Da-Peng Jing Jing-Fei Guo Yu-Ying Jiang Jian-Zhou Zhao Amit Sethi Kang-Lai He Zhen-Ying Wang | 2020 | Insect Science2020,27,4: | 35
Anti-tumor activity of wogonin, an extract from Scutellaria baicalensis, through regulating different signaling pathways显示文摘Wogonin is a plant flavonoid compound extracted from Scutellaria baicalensis(Huang-Qin or Chinese skullcap) and has been studied thoroughly by many researchers till date for its anti-viral, anti-oxidant, anti-cancerous and neuro-protective properties. Numerous experiments conducted in vitro and in vivo have demonstrated wogonin's excellent tumor inhibitory properties. The anticancer mechanism of wogonin has been ascribed to modulation of various cell signaling pathways, including serine-threonine kinase Akt(also known as protein kinase B) and AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK) pathways, p53-dependent/independent apoptosis, and inhibition of telomerase activity. Furthermore, wogonin also decreases DNA adduct formation with a carcinogenic compound 2-Aminofluorene and inhibits growth of drug resistant malignant cells and their migration and metastasis, without any side effects. Recently, newly synthesized wogonin derivatives have been developed with impressive anti-tumor activity. This review is the succinct appraisal of the pertinent articles on the mechanisms of anti-tumor properties of wogonin. We also summarize the potential of wogonin and its derivatives used alone or as an adjunct therapy for cancer treatment. Furthermore, pharmacokinetics and side effects of wogonin and its analogues have also been discussed. | Do Luong Huynh Neelesh Sharma Amit Kumar Singh Simrinder Singh Sodhi ZHANG Jiao-Jiao Raj Kumar Mongre Mrinmoy Ghosh Nameun Kim Yang Ho Park Dong Kee Jeong | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2017,15,1: | 32

Evolution, current status and advances in application of platelet concentrate in periodontics and implantology显示文摘Platelet concentrates(PC) [platelet-rich plasma(PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin(PRF)] are frequently used for surgical procedures in medical and dental fields, particularly in oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery and sports medicine. The objective of all these technologies is to extract all the elements from a blood sample that could be used to improve healing and promote tissue regeneration.Although leukocyte rich and leukocyte poor PRP's have their own place in literature, the importance of non-platelet components in a platelet concentrate remains a mystery.PC have come a long way since its first appearance in 1954 to the T-PRF,A-PRF and i-PRF introduced recently. These PC find varied applications successfully in periodontics and implant dentistry as well. However, the technique of preparation, standing time, transfer process, temperature of centrifuge, vibration, etc.,are the various factors for the mixed results reported in the literature.Until the introduction of a proper classification of terminologies, the PC were known by different names in different countries and by different commercial companies which also created a lot of confusion. This review intends to clarify all these confusion by briefing the exact evolution of PC,their preparation techniques, recent advances and their various clinical and technical aspects and applications. | Amit Arvind Agrawal | 2017 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2017,5,5: | 28
Changing face of hepatic encephalopathy:Role of inflammation and oxidative stress显示文摘The face of hepatic encephalopathy(HE) is changing. This review explores how this neurocognitive disorder, which is associated with both acute and chronic liver injury, has grown to become a dynamic syndrome that spans a spectrum of neuropsychological impairment, from normal performance to coma. The central role of ammonia in the pathogenesis of HE remains incontrovertible. However, over the past 10 years, the HE community has begun to characterise the key roles of inflammation, infection, and oxidative/nitrosative stress in modulating the pathophysiological effects of ammonia on the astrocyte. This review explores the current thoughts and evidence base in this area and discusses the potential role of existing and novel therapies that might abrogate the oxidative and nitrosative stresses inflicted on the brain in patients with,or at risk of developing,HE. | Amit S Seyan Robin D Hughes Debbie L Shawcross | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,27: | 23

Head mass in chronic pancreatitis: Inflammatory or malignant显示文摘Chronic pancreatitis increases the risk of developing pancreatic cancer. This often presents as a mass lesion in the head of pancreas. Mass lesion in the head of pancreas can also occur secondary to an inflammatory lesion. Recognising this is crucial to avoid unnecessary surgery. This is sometimes difficult as there is an overlap in clinical presentation and conventional computed tomography(CT) abdomen findings in inflammatory andmalignant mass. Advances in imaging technologies like endoscopic ultrasound in conjunction with techniques like fine needle aspiration, contrast enhancement and elastography as well as multidetector row CT, magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography scanning have been shown to help in distinguishing inflammatory and malignant mass. Research is ongoing to develop molecular techniques to help characterise focal pancreatic mass lesions. This paper reviews the current status of imaging and molecular techniques in differentiating a benign mass lesion in chronic pancreatitis and from malignancy. | Amit K Dutta Ashok Chacko | 2015 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2015,7,3: | 16
Management of pancreatic fluid collections: A comprehensive review of the literature显示文摘Pancreatic fluid collections(PFCs) are a frequent complication of pancreatitis. It is important to classify PFCs to guide management. The revised Atlanta criteria classifies PFCs as acute or chronic, with chronic fluid collections subdivided into pseudocysts and walled-off pancreatic necrosis(WOPN). Establishing adequate nutritional support is an essential step in the management of PFCs. Early attempts at oral feeding can be trialed in patients with mild pancreatitis. Enteral feeding should be implemented in patients with moderate to severe pancreatitis. Jejunal feeding remains the preferred route of enteral nutrition. Symptomatic PFCs require drainage; options include surgical, percutaneous, or endoscopic approaches. With the advent of newer and more advanced endoscopic tools and expertise, and an associated reduction in health care costs, minimally invasive endoscopic drainage has become the preferable approach. An endoscopic ultrasonography-guided approach using a seldinger technique is the preferred endoscopic approach. Both plastic stents and metal stents are efficacious and safe; however, metal stents may offer an advantage, especially in infected pseudocysts and in WOPN. Direct endoscopic necrosectomy is often required in WOPN. Lumen apposing metal stents that allow for direct endoscopic necrosectomy and debridement through the stent lumen are preferred in these patients. Endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography with pancreatic duct(PD) exploration should be performed concurrent to PFC drainage. PD disruption is associated with an increased severity of pancreatitis, an increased risk of recurrent attacks of pancreatitis and long-term complications, and a decreased rate of PFC resolution after drainage. Any pancreatic ductal disruption should be bridged with endoscopic stenting. | Amy Tyberg Kunal Karia Moamen Gabr Amit Desai Rushabh Doshi Monica Gaidhane Reem Z Sharaiha Michel Kahaleh | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,7: | 15
Gall bladder carcinoma: Aggressive malignancy with protean loco-regional and distant spread显示文摘The most common malignancy of biliary tract is gallbladder cancer(GBC) which is the third most common cancer in gastrointestinal tract. It is a lethal disease for most patients in spite of growing awareness and improved diagnostic techniques. GBC has a verypoor prognosis and the 5 year survival rate is < 10%. Although etiology of the carcinoma of the gallbladder is still obscure, various factors have been implicated, cholelithiasis being the most frequent. The incidence of GBC worldwide is based on the gender, geography and ethnicity which suggest that both genetic and environmental factors can cause GBC. The major route of spread of gallbladder cancer(GC) is locoregional rather than distant. It spreads by lymphatic, vascular, neural, intraperitoneal, and intraductal routes. Sonography is usually the most common imaging test to evaluate symptoms of biliary tract disease including suspected GC. With recent advances in imaging modalities like multi-detector computed tomography(CT) scanners, magnetic resonance imaging-positron emission tomography/CT diagnosis of gallbladder cancer has improved. Studies have also targeted molecular and genetic pathways. Treatment options have included extended and radical surgeries and adjuvant chemotherapy. This review article deals in detail with important aspects of carcinoma gallbladder and its manifestations and challenges. Role of various imaging modalities in characterization and accurate staging has been discussed. The loco-regional spread of this aggressive malignancy is dealt explicitly. | Amit Nandan Dhar Dwivedi Shivi Jain Ruhi Dixit | 2015 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2015,3,3: | 14
Ciliary parathyroid hormone signaling activates transforming growth factor-βto maintain intervertebral disc homeostasis during aging显示文摘Degenerative disc disease(DDD) is associated with intervertebral disc degeneration of spinal instability. Here, we report that the cilia of nucleus pulposus(NP) cells mediate mechanotransduction to maintain anabolic activity in the discs. We found that mechanical stress promotes transport of parathyroid hormone 1 receptor(PTH1 R) to the cilia and enhances parathyroid hormone(PTH) signaling in NP cells. PTH induces transcription of integrin α_vβ_6 to activate the transforming growth factor(TGF)-β-connective tissue growth factor(CCN2)-matrix proteins signaling cascade. Intermittent injection of PTH(iPTH) effectively attenuates disc degeneration of aged mice by direct signaling through NP cells, specifically improving intervertebral disc height and volume by increasing levels of TGF-β activity, CCN2, and aggrecan. PTH1 R is expressed in both mouse and human NP cells. Importantly, knockout PTH1 R or cilia in the NP cells results in significant disc degeneration and blunts the effect of PTH on attenuation of aged discs. Thus, mechanical stress-induced transport of PTH1 R to the cilia enhances PTH signaling, which helps maintain intervertebral disc homeostasis, particularly during aging, indicating therapeutic potential of iPTH for DDD. | Liwei Zheng Yong Cao Shuangfei Ni Huabin Qi Zemin Ling Xin Xu Xuenong Zou Tianding Wu Ruoxian Deng Bo Hu Bo Gao Hao Chen Yusheng Li Jianxi Zhu Francis Tintani Shadpour Demehri Amit Jain Khaled M.Kebaish Shenghui Liao Cheryle A.Séguin Janet L.Crane Mei Wan Hongbin Lu Paul D.Sponseller Lee H.RileyIII Xuedong Zhou Jianzhong Hu Xu Cao | 2018 | Bone Research2018,6,3: | 13

MicroRNA: a new and promising potential biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis of ovarian cancer显示文摘Epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC) is the leading cause of death among all gynecological malignancies. Despite the technological and medical advances over the past four decades, such as the development of several biological markers(mRNA and proteins biomarkers), the mortality rate of ovarian cancer remains a challenge because of its late diagnosis, which is specifically attributed to low specificities and sensitivities. Under this compulsive scenario, recent advances in expression biology have shifted in identifying and developing specific and sensitive biomarkers, such as micro RNAs(miRNAs) for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. MiRNAs are a novel class of small non-coding RNAs that deregulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level, either by translational repression or by mRNA degradation. These mechanisms may be involved in a complex cascade of cellular events associated with the pathophysiology of many types of cancer. MiRNAs are easily detectable in tissue and blood samples of cancer patients. Therefore, miRNAs hold good promise as potential biomarkers in ovarian cancer. In this review, we attempted to provide a comprehensive profile of key miRNAs involved in ovarian carcinoma to establish mi RNAs as more reliable non-invasive clinical biomarkers for early detection of ovarian cancer compared with protein and DNA biomarkers. | Manish K.Pal Shyam P.Jaiswar Vinaya N.Dwivedi Amit K.Tripathi Ashish Dwivedi Pushplata Sankhwar | 2015 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2015,12,4: | 12
Neurologic complications and neurodevelopmental outcome with extracorporeal life support显示文摘Extracorporeal life support is used to support patients of all ages with refractory cardiac and/or respiratory failure. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO)has been used to rescue patients whose predicted mortality would have otherwise been high. It is associated with acute central nervous system(CNS) complications and with long- term neurologic morbidity. Many patients treated with ECMO have acute neurologic complications, including seizures, hemorrhage, infarction, and brain death. Various pre-ECMO and ECMO factors have been found to be associated with neurologic injury, including acidosis, renal failure, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and modality of ECMO used. The risk of neurologic complication appears to vary by age of the patient, with neonates appearing to have the highest risk of acute central nervous system complications. Acute CNS injuries are associated with increased risk of death in a patient who has received ECMO support. ECMO is increasingly used during cardiopulmonary resuscitation when return of spontaneous circulation is not achieved rapidly and outcomes may be good in select populations. Economic analyses have shown that neonatal and adult respiratory ECMO are cost effective. There have been several intriguing reports of active physical rehabilitation of patients duringECMO support that is well tolerated and may improve recovery. Although there is evidence that some patients supported with ECMO appear to have very good outcomes, there is limited understanding of the longterm impact of ECMO on quality of life and long-term cognitive and physical functioning for many groups, especially the cardiac and pediatric populations. This deserves further study. | Amit Mehta Laura M Ibsen | 2013 | World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2013,2,4: | 12
Magnetic anchor guidance for endoscopic submucosal dissection and other endoscopic procedures显示文摘Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) is a wellestablished, minimally invasive treatment for superficial neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. The universal adoption of ESD has been limited by its slow learning curve, long procedure times, and high risk of complications. One technical challenge is the lack of a second hand that can provide traction, as in conventional surgery. Reliable tissue retraction that exposes the submucosal plane of dissection would allow for safer and more efficient dissection. Magnetic anchor guided endoscopic submucosal dissection(MAGESD) has potential benefits compared to other current traction methods. MAG-ESD offers dynamic tissue retraction independent of the endoscope mimicking a surgeon's 'second hand'. Two types of magnets can be used: electromagnets and permanent magnets. In this article we review the MAG-ESD technology, published work and studies of magnets in ESD. We also review the use of magnetic anchor guidance systems in natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery and the idea of magnetic non-contact retraction using surface ferromagentization. We discuss the current limitations, the future potential of MAG-ESD and the developments needed for adoption of this technology. | Mohamed Mortagy Neal Mehta Mansour A Parsi Seiichiro Abe Tyler Stevens John J Vargo Yutaka Saito Amit Bhatt | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,16: | 12
Extra-articular distal tibial fractures, is interlocking nailing an option? A prospective study of 147 cases显示文摘Purpose:Distal tibia fractures comprise about 7%-10% of lower extremity trauma.Because of the peculiarity of the soft tissue and subcutaneous location of the bone there are many controversies in the ideal treatment of distal tibia fractures especially extra articular pilon fractures.Plating is fraught with complications of wound dehiscence and infection. There are limited studies which document outcomes in such cases using intramedullary interlocking nail.We intend to study the outcome and complications of extra articular distal tibial fractures treated with interlocking nailing. Methods:This is a prospective study conducted in a tertiary care orthopaedic hospital in southern India. There are 147 patients of distal tibia extra-articular fractures managed by IM nailing with follow up of more than one year were included in this study.Only cases with fresh injury (less than 1 week),fracture below the isthmus, closed and open Gustilo Anderson type 1 and 2 fractures were included in the study.Patients were reviewed at 3,6,12 and 24 weeks after surgery and thereafter at one year and were assessed for clinical and radiological signs of healing, any complications, time to union and functional outcome. Results:There were 102 males and 45 females (male/female ratio is 2.3∶1) with a mean age of 38.96 (range 23-65) years.According to AO classification, there were 78 cases (53.06%) of 43-A1,39 cases (26.53%) of 43-A2 and 30 cases of 43-A3 constituting 20.40%.The fracture united in all the patients at an average of 18 weeks (range 16-22 weeks),none of the patient in our series had a delayed or non-union.Two patients (1.47%) had the fracture united in mild valgus but it was well within the acceptable limits (<5°).The functional outcome was assessed in all the patients at final follow up using Olerud and Molander score all the patients fared an excellent to good score, there were no cases with poor score. Conclusion:Intramedullary nailing is a viable option to treat distal tibial fractures with excellent outcome.Wound complications related to plating can be avoided but meticulous surgical technique is key to avoid malunion. | PNVSV Prasad Amit Nemade Rashid Anjum Nilesh Joshi | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Traumatology2019,22,2: | 11
Celulose Paper-based Strapping Products for Green/Sustainable Packaging Needs显示文摘Paper products such as corrugated paperboards are the most common green packaging materials, which are renewable, sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable. However, the plastic or metal straps used to secure the carton boxes are not so green. At the end of packaging, the carton boxes can be recycled, but the plastic/metal straps have to be sorted out for disposal separately. This review focuses on: 1) the global trend of green packaging;2) conventional plastic/metal strapping materials for carton boxes;3) conventional market pulp baling with steel wire as the tying materials;4) cellulose fiber-based materials for strapping market pulp bales and carton boxes. | 20 | Fermentation characteristics of resistant starch, arabinoxylan, andβ-glucan and their effects on the gut microbial ecology of pigs:A review显示文摘Dietary fibers(DF)contain an abundant amount of energy, although the mammalian genome does not encode most of the enzymes required to degrade them. However,a mutual dependence is developed between the host and symbiotic microbes, which has the potential to extract the energy present in these DF.Dietary fibers escape digestion in the foregut and are fermented in the hindgut, producing shortchain fatty acids(SCFA)that after the microbial ecology in the gastrointestinal tract(GIT)of pigs. Most of the carbohydrates are fermented in the proximal part, allowing protein fermentation in the distal part, resulting in colonic diseases. The structures of resistant starch(RS),arabinoxylan(AX),and β-glucan(βG)are complex;hence, makes their way into the hindgut where these are fermented and provide energy substrates for the colonic epithelial cells.Different microbes have different preferences of binding to different substrates. The RS,AX and βG act as a unique substrate for the microbes and modify the relative composition of the gut microbial community. The granule dimension and surface area of each substrate are different, which influences the penetration capacity of microbes.Arabinose and xylan are 2 different hemicelluloses, but arabinose is substituted on the xylan backbone and occurs in the form of AX.Fermentation of xylan produces butyrate primarily in the small intestine, whereas arabinose produces butyrate in the large intestine.Types of RS and forms of βG also exert beneficial effects by producing different metabolites and modulating the intestinal microbiota. Therefore,it is important to have information of different types of RS,AX and(3 G and their roles in microbial modulation to get the optimum benefits of fiber fermentation in the gut. This review provides relevant information on the similarities and differences that exist in the way RS,AX,and βG are fermented, and their positive and negative effects on SCFA production and gut microbial ecology of pigs. These insights will help nutritionists to develop dietary strategies that can modulate specific SCFA production and promote beneficial microbiota in the GIT of swine. | Utsav P.Tiwari Amit K.Singh Rajesh Jha | 2019 | Animal Nutrition2019,,3: | 11
