| 8 | Dubin-Johnson syndrome with systemic lupus erythematosus: a case report显示文摘BACKGROUND: Dubin-Johnson syndrome (DJS) is a rare clinical entity. We describe a case of DJS complicated by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: A case of congenital hyperbilirubinemia with SLE was evaluated systematically including review of history, physical examination for the stigmata of chronic liver disease, and other investigations. RESULT: Liver biopsy revealed a black liver with preserved architecture suggestive of DJS. CONCLUSIONS: SLE may develop in DJS. | 9 | e-antigen-negative chronic hepatitis B in Bangladesh显示文摘BACKGROUND:Bangladesh is a densely populated country where about 10 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis B virus(HBV).The aim of the present study was to evaluate the biochemical,virological and histological characteristics of HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B(CHB). METHODS:Patients were included in this study if they were chronically infected with HBV with detectable DNA.The patients who were co-infected with human immunodeficiency virus,hepatitis delta virus or hepatitis C virus,and previously subjected to antiviral treatment,and those with hepatocellular carcinoma were excluded.The study was conducted during the period of January 2001 to December 2007.During this period 2617 patients with CHB were studied.HBeAg-positive cases were included to compare the characteristics.Among them,237 cases underwent liver biopsy. RESULTS:2296 patients(87.7%)were male,with a mean age of 28.9±13.7 years.2375 patients(90.8%)had CHB,and 242(9.2%)were cirrhotic.HBV DNA levels were 7.6±1.5 copies/ml,ALT was 111.3±212.5 U/L,and AST was 91.5± 148.9 U/L.The number of HBeAg-negative CHB cases was 1039(39.7%).HBeAg-negative patients with a lower DNA load were older,and they had more fibrotic changes in the liver than HBeAg-positive patients.The two groups did not differ in necroinflammatory activity,but the former had lower ALT and AST values.Cirrhosis was more common in e-antigen-negative patients.CONCLUSIONS:e-antigen-negative CHB patients are older and have more hepatic fibrosis patients than HBeAg-positive patients,although they have similar necroinflammatory activity. | Nooruddin Ahmad Shahinul Alam Golam Mustafa Abul Barkat Muhammad Adnan Rahat Hasan Baig Mobin Khan | 2008 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2008,7,4: | 6 |
| 10 | Removal of biomass tar by steam reforming over calcined scallop shell supported Cu catalysts显示文摘In this study, the main purpose is to develop low-cost catalysts with high activity and stability for high quality syngas production via steam reforming of biomass tar in biomass gasification process. The calcined waste scallop shell(CS) supported copper(Cu) catalysts are prepared for steam reforming of biomass tar. The prepared Cu supported on CS catalysts exhibit higher catalytic activity than those on commercial CaO and Al_2O_3. Characterization results indicate that Cu/CS has a strong interaction between Cu and CaO in CS support, resulting in the formation of calcium copper oxide phase which could stabilize Cu species and provide new active sites for the tar reforming. In addition, the strong basicity of CS support and other inorganic elements contained in CS support could enhance the activity of Cu/CS. | 15 | Antioxidant compounds and minerals in tomatoes by Trichodermaenriched biofertilizer and their relationship with the soil environments显示文摘The experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Trichoderma-enriched biofertilizer(BioF/compost)on antioxidants and minerals in ripe tomatoes and soil health improvements in terms of nutrient availability and microbial populations.The study was comprised of six treatments:control(zero input);recommended doses of NPK(135.5,45.6 and 22.9 kg ha^(–1),respectively);100%BioF/compost;75%BioF/compost+25%N;50%BioF/compost+50%N;and 25%BioF/compost+75%N.The recommended doses of P and K were used in the last three treatments.It was found that the application of 100%BioF/compost enhanced plant growth,leaf greenness,and produced 12.9%higher yield compared to the recommended doses of NPK and other treatments.Mineral contents(P,K,Ca,Mg,Cu,Fe,Mn and Zn)in tomato roots,shoots and fruits and antioxidant compounds,i.e.,ascorbic acid,β-carotine,and lycopene were increased significantly in fruits fertilized with100%BioF/compost.The high efficiency of Trichoderma compost might be the result of its potential of nutrient solubilization and harboring soil microorganisms.Collectively,BioF/compost increased soil fertility and favored growth of microbes in the rhizosphere which ultimately contributed to higher yield,antioxidant,and mineral concentrations in tomatoes.Thus,Trichoderma-enriched biofertilizer may reduce application of chemical fertilizers and therefore,can be considered as a noble practice in sustainable agriculture. | Yeakub Khan Manjurul Haque Abul Hossain Molla Mizanur Rahman Mohammad Zahangeer Alam | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,3: | 4 |
| 16 | Nigella sativa protects against isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction by alleviating oxidative stress,biochemical alterations and histological damage显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the cardioprotective effect of Nigella sativa L.(N.sativa) in isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction(MI).Methods: Groups were treated with different doses of ethanol extract of N.sativa(EENS)and N.sativa oil alone and along with enalapril for 28 days.MI was induced by subcutaneous administration of isoproterenol(85 mg/kg) in two consecutive doses.Levels of cardiac biomarkers and antioxidant enzymes such as creatine kinase–N-acetyl-L-cysteine, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, reduced glutathione and catalase were evaluated along with gross histopathological examination.Results: Isoproterenol(85 mg/kg) induced MI by causing the significant(P < 0.01)reduction in the activity of cardiac biomarkers(creatine kinase–N-acetyl-L-cysteine,lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase) and antioxidant markers(superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione) along with significant(P < 0.01) increase in the level of malondialdehyde.Furthermore, histopathological evaluation also confirmed the isoproterenol-induced MI.Pretreatment with EENS(800 mg/kg) and combination of EENS(800 mg/kg) with enalapril(1 mg/kg) significantly(P < 0.01) prevented the development of these alteration and restored activity of cardiac biomarkers as well as antioxidant markers almost near to normal levels.Histopathological evaluation of cardiac tissue further confirmed the restoration of biochemical activity.Conclusions: Experimental findings thus indicate that EENS(800 mg/kg) demonstrated cardioprotective effect against isoproterenol-induced MI by restoring cardiac biomarkers and antioxidant status. | Md.Quamrul Hassan Mohd.Akhtar Sayeed Ahmed Aftab Ahmad Abul Kalam Najmi | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,4: | 4 |
