1Comparison of Cardiac Output and Hemodynamic Responses of Intubation among Different Videolaryngoscopies in Normotensive and Hypertensive Patients显示文摘Tracheal intubation with Macintosh laryngoscope(MAC) might result in severe cardiovascular complications. The results of conducted studies investigating the effects of videolaryngoscopies on hemodynamic response of tracheal intubation are conflicting. We know little about the effects of videolaryngoscopies on cardiac output changes during tracheal intubation. We compared cardiac output(COP) and hemodynamic responses in normal blood pressure(n=60) and hypertensive patients(n=60) among 3 intubation devices: the MAC, the UE videolaryngoscopy ?(UE), and the UE video intubation stylet ?(VS). Cardiac index(CI), stroke volume index(SVI), heart rate(HR), systolic blood pressure(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) were recorded using Lidco Rapid V2? preinduction, preintubation, and every minute for the first 5 min after intubation. We assessed oropharyngeal and laryngeal structures injury as well. Intubation time was significantly shorter than MAC groups(P<0.001) only in UE group of normotensive and hypertensive patients. In normotensive patients, there were no significant differences in any of COP variables or hemodynamic variables among the three devices. In hypertensive patients, SBP and DBP in the MAC group were significantly higher(P<0.05 or <0.01) than the UE and VS groups at 1, 2 and 3 min after intubation, but there were no significant differences in CI, SVI and HR among the three devices. There was no significant difference in oropharyngeal and laryngeal structures injury among all groups. 2Use of shear wave elastography for the diagnosis and follow-up of biliary atresia: A meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Timely differentiation of biliary atresia(BA)from other infantile cholestatic diseases can impact patient outcomes.Additionally,non-invasive staging of fibrosis after Kasai hepatoportoenterostomy has not been widely standardized.Shear wave elastography is an ultrasound modality that detects changes in tissue stiffness.The authors propose that the utility of elastography in BA can be elucidated through meta-analysis of existing studies.AIM To assess the utility of elastography in:(1)BA diagnosis,and(2)post-Kasai fibrosis surveillance.METHODS A literature search identified articles that evaluated elastography for BA diagnosis and for post-Kasai follow-up.Twenty studies met criteria for meta-analysis:Eleven for diagnosis and nine for follow-up post-Kasai.Estimated diagnostic odds ratio(DOR),sensitivity,and specificity of elastography were calculated through a random-effects model using Meta-DiSc software.RESULTS Mean liver stiffness in BA infants at diagnosis was significantly higher than in non-BA,with overall DOR 24.61,sensitivity 83%,and specificity 79%.Post-Kasai,mean liver stiffness was significantly higher in BA patients with varices than in patients without,with DOR 16.36,sensitivity 85%,and specificity 76%.Elastography differentiated stage F4 fibrosis from F0-F3 with DOR of 70.03,sensitivity 96%,and specificity 89%.Elastography also differentiated F3-F4 fibrosis from F0-F2 with DOR of 24.68,sensitivity 85%,and specificity 81%.CONCLUSION Elastography has potential as a non-invasive modality for BA diagnosis and surveillance post-Kasai.This paper’s limitations include inter-study method heterogeneity and small sample sizes.Future,standardized,multi-center studies are recommended.Ellen S Wagner Hussien Ahmed H Abdelgawad Meghan Landry Belal Asfour Mark B Slidell Ruba Azzam 2022World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,32:5

4Corrosion behavior of Mg-Zn-Zr-RE alloys under physiological environment-Impact on mechanical integrity and biocompatibility显示文摘Benefits of RE addition on Mg alloys strength and corrosion resistance are widely reported but their effects on biodegradability and biocompatibility are still of concern.This paper investigates the effect of RE additions on biodegradability of Mg-Zn alloys under simulated physiological conditions.In this context,two commercial Mg-Zn-Zr-RE alloys,namely ZE41 and EZ33,with same RE addition but different concentrations are studied in Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution(HBSS)at 37℃and with pH of 7.4.Weight-loss,hydrogen evolution,real-time insitu drop test,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and potentiodynamic polarization are deployed to study corrosion characteristics.The mechanical integrity of both alloys is assessed by mechanical testing post immersion.Furthermore,in vitro biocompatibility is evaluated by indirect cytotoxicity tests using NIH3T3 cells.Results reveal that although both alloys showed similar microstructure,size and distribution of precipitates played a significant role on its corrosion response.EIS and open circuit potential results show stable film formation on EZ33,while ZE41 showed passive layer formation followed by its deterioration,over the analyzed time period.Using real-time drop test,it was shown in ZE41 alloy that both T-phase and Zr-rich precipitates acted as micro cathodes,resulting in an unstable surface film.In EZ33,Zr-rich regions did not influence corrosion response,resulting in better corrosion resistance that was corroborated by post-immersion surface morphology investigations.The higher degradation observed in ZE41 alloy resulted in higher drop in flexural and tensile strength compared to EZ33 alloy.In addition,cytotoxicity tests on NIH3T3 cells revealed that cell viability of EZ33 increased with increasing incubation time,contrary to ZE41,owing to its lower biodegradation behavior and despite higher concentrations of REs.Present results show that an increase in RE concentration in EZ33,relative to ZE41,had a positive effect on corrosion rate that subsequently controlled alloy mechanical integrity and biocompatibility.Marwa AbdelGawad Chaudhry A.Usman Vasanth C.Shunmugasamy Ibrahim Karaman Bilal Mansoor 2022Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,6:2
