4Diversity of plants and mammals as indicators of the effects of land management types in woodlands显示文摘Background:The ecological indicators are useful tools to determine the effects of human disturbances on woodland biodiversity.Nevertheless,ecological indicators not always responded in the same way to disturbances,and the responses can differ among taxa.In arid and semiarid woodlands,the use of deadwood associated with cattle raising can affect biodiversity and Nature’s contributions to people.Methods:Our study aimed to assess changes in taxonomic and functional diversity of two assemblages,plants and mammals,in Prosopis woodlands under different land management types:grazed woodlands and a protected area.For plants,changes in structural diversity were also analyzed.Prosopis trees under different land management types were selected and their deadwood characteristics were registered.Through live traps and camera traps,we obtained data on the presence-absence of mammals per tree to estimate diversity indices.For plants,we measured the abundance of vegetation by species and by cover type through the Line-Intercept Method to estimated diversity.Finally,we built generalized linear models to assess the responses of diversity of each assemblage to covariables concerning deadwood and different land management types.Results:We found that all diversity indeces for plants were either negatively affected by the presence of deadwood on the ground,or favored by its extraction.For mammals,removal of deadwood increased taxonomic diversity,while functional diversity increased with deadwood on the trees.Both structural diversity of plants and functional diversity of mammals were greater in grazed woodlands.Conclusions:The sustainable use of woodland resources is essential for the activities of rural communities.Our study results indicated that land management of grazed woodlands promoted the structural diversity of plant assemblages and the functional diversity of mammals.The presence of deadwood negatively affected plant diversity but it increased mammal functional diversity.It is advisable to maintain trees that preserve their wooden structure within the managed areas to promote the functional diversity of mammals,while trees with extraction from standing wood will favor the functional diversity of the plant assemblage.Understanding the effects of human disturbances can contribute to management for the conservation of woodlands diversity and Nature’s contributions to people.Carolina R.Szymanski Solana Tabeni Juan A.Alvarez Claudia M.Campos 2021Forest Ecosystems2021,8,4:1

6New approaches to identification and characterization of tioconazole in raw material and in pharmaceutical dosage forms显示文摘Tioconazole(TCZ), a broad-spectrum antifungal agent, has significant activity against Candida albicans and other Candida species, and therefore, it is indicated for the topical treatment of superficial mycoses.The main goal of this work is to report an exhaustive identification and characterization procedure to improve and facilitate the online quality control and continuous process monitoring of TCZ in bulk material and loaded in two different dosage forms: ovules and nail lacquer. The methodologies were based on thermal(differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), melting point, and thermogravimetry(TG)),spectroscopic(ultraviolet(UV), Raman, near infrared(NIR), infrared spectroscopy coupled to attenuated total reflectance(FTIR-ATR), and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)), microscopic and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The TCZ bulk powder showed a high crystallinity, as observed by XRD, with a particles size distribution(3–95 mm) resolved by microscopic measurements. TCZ melting point(82.8 °C) and a degradation peak centered at 297.8 °C were obtained by DSC and DTG, respectively. An unambiguous structure elucidation of TCZ was obtained by mono-and two-dimensional1 H and13 C NMR spectral data analysis. The FTIR-ATR, Raman and NIR spectra of both the raw material and the commercial products were analyzed and their characteristic bands were tabulated. The best methods for TCZ identification in ovules were DSC, TG, XRD, NIR and Raman, while NIR and FTIR-ATR were the most appropriate techniques to analyze it in the nail lacquer. 7Spontaneous and stimulated electron-photon interactions in nanoscale plasmonic near fields显示文摘The interplay between free electrons,light,and matter offers unique prospects for space,time,and energy resolved optical material characterization,structured light generation,and quantum information processing.Here,we study the nanoscale features of spontaneous and stimulated electron–photon interactions mediated by localized surface plasmon resonances at the tips of a gold nanostar using electron energy-loss spectroscopy(EELS),cathodoluminescence spectroscopy(CL),and photon-induced near-field electron microscopy(PINEM).Supported by numerical electromagnetic boundary-element method(BEM)calculations,we show that the different coupling mechanisms probed by EELS,CL,and PINEM feature the same spatial dependence on the electric field distribution of the tip modes.However,the electron–photon interaction strength is found to vary with the incident electron velocity,as determined by the spatial Fourier transform of the electric near-field component parallel to the electron trajectory.For the tightly confined plasmonic tip resonances,our calculations suggest an optimum coupling velocity at electron energies as low as a few keV.Our results are discussed in the context of more complex geometries supporting multiple modes with spatial and spectral overlap.We provide fundamental insights into spontaneous and stimulated electron-light-matter interactions with key implications for research on(quantum)coherent optical phenomena at the nanoscale.Matthias Liebtrau Murat Sivis Armin Feisto Hugo Lourenco-Martins Nicolas Pazos-Pérez Ramon A.Alvarez Puebla F.Javier Garcia de Abajo Albert Polman Claus Ropers 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,5:1

11Subclinical Indication of Linkage Between Markers of Skeletal and Cardiovascular Properties显示文摘Little is known about early coincidental changes in bone and vascular properties,particularly in the context of skeletal anabolism(puberty)versus relative equilibrium(young adulthood).We aimed to determine if subclinical markers of vascular function were associated with bone mineral content(BMC)and to evaluate the contribution of systemic factors in healthy females ages 14-42 years.Endothelial function was assessed by flow mediated dilatation(FMD),arterial stiffness by pulse wave velocity(PWV)and augmentation index(AIx),blood pressure(BP)by sphygmomanometer,BMC by DXA,and systemic factors by fasting blood draw.General linear models controlled for age,race and height indicated a positive association between systolic BP(SBP)and BMC independent of systemic factors.When stratified by age using 19 years as a cut-point,there was an inverse relationship between AIx75 in adolescents with insulin(P<0.10)or inflammatory markers(P<0.10)in statistical models.Conversely,there was a positive relationship between BMC and both PWV and AIx75 in young adults(P<0.05).The link between bone and the vasculature may be life stage-dependent.In the context of a less dynamic microenvironment in young adult females,metabolic factors appear to moderate less of an effect of hemodynamic properties on the skeleton relative to adolescents.Lynae J.Hanks Ambika P.Ashraf Barbara A.Gower Jessica A.Alvarez Krista Casazza 2013Bone Research2013,1,3:0
