1Feeding a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product improves udder health and immune response to a Streptococcus uberis mastitis challenge in mid-lactation dairy cows显示文摘Background:We aimed to characterize the protective effects and the molecular mechanisms of action of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product(NTK)in response to a mastitis challenge.Eighteen mid-lactation multiparous Holstein cows(n=9/group)were fed the control diet(CON)or CON supplemented with 19 g/d NTK for 45 d(phase 1,P1)and then infected in the right rear quarter with 2500 CFU of Streptococcus uberis(phase 2,P2).After 36-h,mammary gland and liver biopsies were collected and antibiotic treatment started until the end of P2(9 d post challenge).Cows were then followed until day 75(phase 3,P3).Milk yield(MY)and dry matter intake(DMI)were recorded daily.Milk samples for somatic cell score were collected,and rectal and udder temperature,heart and respiration rate were recorded during the challenge period(P2)together with blood samples for metabolite and immune function analyses.Data were analyzed by phase using the PROC MIXED procedure in SAS.Biopsies were used for transcriptomic analysis via RNA-sequencing,followed by pathway analysis.Results:DMI and MY were not affected by diet in P1,but an interaction with time was recorded in P2 indicating a better recovery from the challenge in NTK compared with CON.NTK reduced rectal temperature,somatic cell score,and temperature of the infected quarter during the challenge.Transcriptome data supported these findings,as NTK supplementation upregulated mammary genes related to immune cell antibacterial function(e.g.,CATHL4,NOS2),epithelial tissue protection(e.g.IL17C),and anti-inflammatory activity(e.g.,ATF3,BAG3,IER3,G-CSF,GRO1,ZFAND2A).Pathway analysis indicated upregulation of tumor necrosis factorα,heat shock protein response,and p21 related pathways in the response to mastitis in NTK cows.Other pathways for detoxification and cytoprotection functions along with the tight junction pathway were also upregulated in NTK-fed cows.Conclusions:Overall,results highlighted molecular networks involved in the protective effect of NTK prophylactic supplementation on udder health during a subclinical mastitic event.M.Vailati-Riboni D.N.Coleman V.Lopreiato A.Alharthi R.E.Bucktrout E.Abdel-Hamied I.Martinez-Cortes Y.Liang E.Trevisi I.Yoon J.J.Loor 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,4:4
2Rare earth(Gd,La) co-doped ZnO nanoflowers for direct sunlight driven photocatalytic activity显示文摘In this work Gd/La@ZnO nanoflower photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by a co-precipitation method and applied for rhodamine B(Rh B) and tetracycline(TCN) degradation under direct sunlight irradiation.The doping of rare earth elements extends the optical absorption wavelength of ZnO from UV region(390 nm) to visible-light region(401 nm).In addition,the co-doped ZnO nanoflower exhibits a lower charge recombination efficiency which was confirmed by photoluminescence emission analysis.Moreover,the co-doped ZnO nanoflower exhibits the maximum degradation efficiency of 91% for Rh B and 74% for TCN under sunlight irradiation.The calculated synergistic index of co-doped ZnO is higher than that of the pure ZnO.Reactive radicals’ production was confirmed by terephthalic acid(TA) and nitro-blue tetrazolium(NBT) tests.The holes and hydroxyl(·OH) radicals play the major role in degradation reaction and it was confirmed by scavenger’s test.Moreover,the recycling test confirms the stability of the photocatalyst.Baskaran Palanivel Romulo R.Macadangdang Jr Md Shahadat Hossain Fahad A.Alharthi Mohanraj Kumar Jih-Hsing Chang Sreedevi Gedi 2023Journal of Rare Earths2023,41,1:3
3Hydrothermal synthesis of hierarchical SnO_(2)nanomaterials for high-efficiency detection of pesticide residue显示文摘Acephate pesticide contamination in agricultural production has caused serious human health problems.Metal oxide semiconductor(MOS)gas sensor can be used as a portable and promising alternative tool for efficiently detection of acephate.In this study,hierarchical assembled SnO_(2)nanosphere,SnO_(2)hollow nanosphere and SnO_2 nanoflower were synthesized respectively as high efficiency sensing materials to build rapid and selective acephate pesticide residues sensors.The morphologies of different SnO_(2)3 D nanostructures were characterized by various material characterization technology.The sensitive performance test results of the 3 D SnO_(2)nanomaterials towards acephate show that hollow nanosphere SnO_(2)based sensor displayed preferable sensitivity,selectivity,and rapid response(9 s)properties toward acephate at the optimal working temperature(300℃).This SnO_(2)hollow nanosphere based gas sensor represents a useful tool for simple and highly effective monitoring of acephate pesticide residues in food and environment.According to the characterization results,particularly Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)and Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy(UV-vis),the obvious and fast response can be attributed to the mesoporous hollow nanosphere structure and appropriate band gap of SnO_2 hollow nanosphere.Haijie Cai Xiaopeng Qiao Meilian Chen Dongsheng Feng Abdulaziz AAlghamdi Fahad A.Alharthi Yingjie Pan Yong Zhao Yongheng Zhu Yonghui Deng 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,4:1
4One-dimensional nanochains consisting of magnetic core and mesoporous aluminosilicate for use as efficient nanocatalysts显示文摘Magnetic assembly at the nanoscale level brings potential possibilities in obtaining novel delicate nanostructures with unique physical, photonic or electronic properties. Interface surfactant micelle-directed assembly strategy holds great promising in fabricating ordered mesoporous materials with multifunctionality and pore parameter tunability. Combing these, herein, one-dimensional (1D) nanochains with well-aligned silica-coated magnetic particles as core and mesoporous aluminosilicate as shell are rational fabricated for the first time through magnetic field induced interface coassembly in biliquid system followed by the incorporation of Al species via in-situ chemical modification and transformation strategy. The obtained magnetic mesoporous aluminosilicate nanochains (MMAS-NCs) possess well-defined core-shell-shell sandwich nanostructure, tunable perpendicular mesopore channels in the shell (2.7–7.6 nm), high surface area (359 m^(2)·g^(-1)), abundant acidic sites, and superparamagnetism with a magnetization saturation of 13.8 emu·g^(-1). Thanks to the unique properties, the MMAS-NCs exhibit excellent performance in acting as magnetically recyclable superior solid acid catalysts and nanostirrers with high conversion of over 96.8%, selectivity of 95.0% in the deprotection reaction of benzaldehyde dimethylacetal to benzaldehyde. 5Evaluation of patient safety culture as perceived by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic显示文摘Objectives:A good patient safety culture(PSC)is linked to a reduced risk of patient problems and minimal undesirable occurrences.This study investigated the PSC levels from nurses'perspectives during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional design was applied.The Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture(HSOPSC)questionnaire was administered to 315 nurses working at 2 major hospitals in Jeddah,Saudi Arabia.The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics,a t-test,and a one-way ANOVA test.The statistical significance of the correlation was determined at the 0.05 level.Results:PSC was rated as medium overall according to the nurses,with a weighted mean of 2.88–0.76 and a relative weight of 57.57%.In addition,all PSC composites were rated from medium to high,except organizational learning,which was rated low.The correlation between sociodemographic variables as well as PSC levels was investigated using the t-test and one-way ANOVA test.The association is statistically significant when P≤0.05.The findings revealed a statistically significant correlation between nurse nationality(t=-4.399,P=0.000),age(F=7.917,P=0.000),experience in years(F=3.760,P=0.024),and hospital(t=-0.401,P=0.689).Conclusions:The nurses in this study had a medium overall PSC level,and all PSC composites ranged from a medium to a high level,except organizational learning,which had a low level.In addition,the findings showed that there is a significant relationship between PSC levels,nurses'nationalities,experience in years,and the hospital itself.Anood M.Alabbas Abdulhameid S.Althubyani Mysara Alfaki Faisal A.Alharthi Ahmed AlKarani 2023Frontiers of Nursing2023,10,1:0
