1Pt3Ag alloy wavy nanowires as highly effective electrocatalysts for ethanol oxidation reaction显示文摘Direct ethanol fuel cell(DEFC)has received tremendous research interests because of the more convenient storage and transportation of ethanol vs.compressed hydrogen. However, the electrocatalytic ethanol oxidation reaction typically requires precious metal catalysts and is plagued with relatively high over potential and low mass activity. Here we report the synthesis of Pt3Ag alloy wavy nanowires via a particle attachment mechanism in a facile solvothermal process.Transmission microscopy studies and elemental analyses show highly wavy nanowire structures with an average diameter of 4.6±1.0 nm and uniform Pt3Ag alloy formation.Electrocatalytic studies demonstrate that the resulting alloy nanowires can function as highly effective electrocatalysts for ethanol oxidation reactions(EOR)with ultrahigh specific activity of 28.0 mA/cm^2 and mass activity of 6.1 A/mg,far exceeding that of the commercial Pt/carbon samples(1.10 A/mg).The improved electrocatalytic activity may be partly attributed to partial electron transfer from Ag to Pt in the Pt3Ag alloy, which weakens CO binding and the CO poisoning effect. The one-dimensional nanowire morphology also contributes to favorable charge transport properties that are critical for extracting charge from catalytic active sites to external circuits. The chronoamperometry studies demonstrate considerably improved stability for long term operation compared with the commercial Pt/C samples, making the Pt3Ag wavy nanowires an attractive electrocatalyst for EOR.Xiaoyang Fu Chengzhang Wan Aixin Zhang Zipeng Zhao Huaixun Huyan Xiaoqing Pan Shuaijing Du Xiangfeng Duan Yu Huang 2020Nano Research2020,13,5:5
2Highly coordinated Pd overlayers on nanoporous gold for efficient formic acid electro-oxidation显示文摘Design and fabrication of highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts remain key challenges in green energy technologies such as low-temperature direct liquid fuel cells.Based on in-depth theoretical calculations, here we demonstrate that surface Pd atoms with high coordination numbers(HCNs)can effectively modulate their adsorption energies for CO and OH,and thus achieve very high performance for formic acid electro-oxidation reaction(FAOR).Based on epitaxial coating Pd atomic layers onto nanoporous gold(NPG)thin membranes and a slight further decoration of Au clusters on top,the resulted core-shell structured NPG-Pd-Au electrocatalyst can demonstrate Pd intrinsic and mass activities of 8.62 mA·cm^(-2)and 27.25 A·mg^(-1)respectively at the peak potential around 0.33 V versus saturated calomel electrode toward FAOR,which are far better than those of commercial Pd/C catalysts(1.09 mA·cm^(-2)and 0.32 A·mg^(-1))tested under the same conditions. Moreover, the membrane electrode assemblies based on these low precious metal loading electrodes can achieve an anode Pd power efficiency over 10 W·mg^(-1)in a direct formic acid fuel cell, which is two orders of magnitude higher than that of the commercial Pd/C.These results provide new inspirations for the development of revolutionary electrodes for energy technologies in a rational manner.Qinqin Sang Shuai Yin Feng Liu Huiming Yin Jia He Yi Ding 2021Nano Research2021,14,10:2
3Compressive surface strained atomic-layer Cu2O on Cu@Ag nanoparticles显示文摘Control of surface structure at the atomic level can effectively tune catalytic properties of nanomaterials.Tuning surface strain is an effective strategy for enhancing catalytic activity;however, the correlation studies between the surface strain with catalytic performance are scant because such mechanistic studies require the precise control of surface strain on catalysts. In this work,a simple strategy of precisely tuning compressive surface strain of atomic-layer Cu2O on Cu@Ag (AL-Cu2O/Cu@Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) is demonstrated. The AL-Cu2O is synthesized by structure evolution of Cu@Ag core-shell nanoparticles, and the precise thickness-control of AL-Cu2O is achieved by tuning the molar ratio of Cu/Ag of the starting material.Aberration-corrected high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (AC-HRTEM) and EELS elemental mapping characterization showed that the compressive surface strain of AL-Cu2O along the [111] and [200] directions can be precisely tuned from 6.5% to 1.6% and 6.6% to 4.7%,respectively,by changing the number of AL-Cu2O layer from 3 to 6.The as-prepared AL-Cu2O/Cu@Ag NPs exhibited excellent catalytic property in the synthesis of azobenzene from aniline,in which the strained 4-layers Cu2O (4.5% along the [111] direction,6.1% along the [200] direction) exhibits the best catalytic performance. This work may be beneficial for the design and surface engineering of catalysts toward specific applications.Xiyue Zhu Hongpan Rong Xiaobin Zhang Qiumei Di Huishan Shang Bing Bai Jiajia Liu Jia Liu Meng Xu Wenxing Chen Jiatao Zhang 2019Nano Research2019,12,5:1
4Modulating reaction pathways of formic acid oxidation for optimized electrocatalytic performance of PtAu/CoNC显示文摘Formic acid oxidation(FAO)is a typical anode reaction in fuel cells that can be facilitated by modulating its direct and indirect reaction pathways.Herein,PtAu bimetallic nanoparticles loaded onto Co and N co-doping carbon nanoframes(CoNC NFs)were designed to improve the selectivity of the direct reaction pathway for efficient FAO.Based on these subtle nanomaterials, the influences of elemental composition and carbon-support materials on the two pathways of FAO were investigated in detail. The results of fuel cell tests verified that the appropriate amount of Au in PtAu/CoNC can promote a direct reaction pathway for FAO,which is crucial for enhancing the oxidation efficiency of formic acid.In particular, the obtained PtAu/CoNC with an optimal Pt/Au atomic ratio of 1:1(PtAu/CoNC-3)manifests the best catalytic performance among the analogous obtained Pt-based electrocatalysts. The FAO mass activity of the PtAu/CoNC-3 sample reached 0.88 A·mg_(Pt)^(-1),which is 26.0 times higher than that of Pt/C.The results of first-principles calculation and CO stripping jointly demonstrate that the CO adsorption of PtAu/CoNC is considerably lower than that of Pt/CoNC and PtAu/C,which indicates that the synergistic effect of Pt,Au,and CoNC NFs is critical for the resistance of Pt to CO poisoning. This work is of great significance for a deeper understanding of the oxidation mechanism of formic acid and provides a feasible and promising strategy for enhancing the catalytic performance of the catalyst by improving the direct reaction pathway for FAO.Mengchao Liang Tianyu Xia Han Gao Kai Zhao Tianqi Cao Meng Deng Xiaoyan Ren Shunfang Li Haizhong Guo Rongming Wang 2022Nano Research2022,15,2:0
