| 1 | Therapeutic effect of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization and percutaneous injection of acetic acids on primary liver cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND: The resection rate of primary liver tumor in China is only about 20%. A lot of patients with moderate and advanced liver tumor may lose the chance of opera- tion. The objective of present research was to study the ef- ficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with percutaneous injection of chemical agents and acetic acids in the treatment of patients with primary liver cancer (PLC). METHODS: Thirty-three patients with middle and ad- vanced stage of PLC were divided into two groups: percu- taneous injection of chemical agents and acetic acids (15 patients, group A) and TACE (18 patients, group B). RESULTS: Tumor diameter and serum AFP level reduced to 86.6% and 83.3% in group A, and 55.5% and 40% in group B, respectively. There was significant difference be- tween the two groups ( P < 0 . 0 1 ) . The 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-year survival rates of group A were 96.7%, 86.6%, 51.3%, 33.3%, respectively and in group B were 66.7%, 44.4%, 16.7%, 0%, respectively (P<0.01). | 3 | Murine fertilized ovum, blastomere and morula cells lacking SP phenotype显示文摘In the field of stem cell research, SP (side population) phenotype is used to define the property that cells maintain a high efflux capability for some fluorescent dye, such as Hoechst 33342. Recently, many researches proposed that SP phenotype is a phenotype shared by some stem cells and some pro- genitor cells, and that SP phenotype is regarded as a candidate purification marker for stem cells. In this research, murine fertilized ova (including conjugate and single nucleus fertilized ova), 2-cell stage and 8-cell stage blastomeres, morulas and blastocysts were isolated and directly stained by Hoechst 33342 dye. The results show that fertilized ovum, blastomere and morula cells do not demonstrate any ability to efflux the dye. However, the inner cell mass (ICM) cells of blastocyst exhibit SP phenotype, which is consistent with the result of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) in vitro. These results indicate that the SP phenotype of ICM-derived ESCs is an intrinsic property and independent of the culture condition in vitro, and that SP phenotype is one of the characteristics of at least some pluripotent stem cells, but is not shared by totipotent stem cells. In addition, the result that the SP phenotype of ICM cells disap- peared when the inhibitor verapamil was added into medium implies that the SP phenotype is directly associated with ABCG2. | 4 | Atrophy of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is associated with poor performance in verbal fluency in elderly poststroke women显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the association between atrophy in the prefrontal cortex with executive function and verbal fluency in elderly male and female patients poststroke.Thirty elderly female patients with non-aphasic ischemic stroke aged ≥ 60 years and 30 age-matched non-aphasic male patients with ischemic stroke were recruited.Automatic magnetic resonance imaging segmentation was used to assess the volume of the whole prefrontal cortex,along with its subdivisions:anterior cingulate cortex,orbitofrontal cortex and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.The Semantic Verbal Fluency Test was administered at 3 and 15 months poststroke.At 3 months poststroke,left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex volume was significantly correlated with Verbal Fluency Test score in female patients only(partial coefficient = 0.453,P = 0.045),after controlling for age,education,diabetes,neurological deficit,white matter lesions volume,as well as the location and volume of infarcts.At 15 months poststroke,there remained a significant association between the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex volume and Verbal Fluency Test(partial coefficient = 0.661,P = 0.001) and between the left prefrontal cortex volume and Verbal Fluency Test(partial coefficient = 0.573,P = 0.004) in female patients after the same adjustments.These findings indicate that atrophy of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex contributes to the impairment of verbal fluency in elderly female patients with stroke.Sex differences may be present in the neuropsychological mechanisms of verbal fluency impairment in patients with stroke. | Yang-Kun Chen Wei-Min Xiao Defeng Wang Lin Shi Winnie CW Chu Vincent CT Mok Ka Sing Wong Gabor S Ungvari Wai Kwong Tang | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,4: | 2 |
