Inhibitory effects of RRR-α-tocopheryl succinate on benzo (a) pyrene (B (a) P)-induced forestomach carcinogenesis in female mice显示文摘AIM To study the inhibitory effects of VES( RRR-α-tocopheryl Succinate, VES ), aderivative of natural Vitamin E, on benzo (a)pyrene (B (a) P)-induced forestomach tumor infemale mice.METHODS The model of B (a)P-inducedforestomach tumor was established according tothe methods of Wattenberg with slightmodifications. One hundred and eighty femalemice (6 weeks old) were divided into six groupsequally; negative control (Succinic acid),vehicle control ( Succinate + B (a) P), positivecontrol(B(a) P), high VES(2.5g/kg. b. w + B(a)P), Iow VES(1 .25 g/kg. b. w + B(a) P) ig as wellas VES by ip (20 mg/kg, b. w + B(a) P). Exceptthe negative control group, the mice wereadministrated with B(a)P ig. and correspondingtreatments for 4 weeks to study the anti-carcinogenetic effect of VES during the initiationperiod. The experiment lasted 29 weeks, inwhich the inhibitory effects of VES both ontumor incidence and tumor size were tested.RESULTS The models of B (a)P-inducedforestomach tumor in female mice wereestablished successfully. Some werecauliflower-like, others looked like papilla, evena few were formed into the ulcer cavities. VES at1.25 g/kg. b. w, 2.5 g/kg. b.w. by ig and 20 mg/kg. b. w. via ip could decrease the number oftumors per mouse (1.7 ± 0. 41, 1.6 ± 0.34 and 1.1±0.43), being lower than that of B(a)P group(5.4 ± 0.32, P<0.05). The tumor incidence wasinhibited by 18.2%, 23.1% and 50.0%. VES at1.25g/kg.b.w., 2.5 g/ kg.b.w. by ig and20 mg/kg. b.w. via ip reduced the total volumeof tumors per mouse (54.8 ± 8.84, 28.4 ± 8.32and 23.9± 16.05), being significantly lower thanthat of B(a)P group (150.2±20.93, P<0.01).The inhibitory rates were 63.5%, 81.1% and84.1%, respectively.CONCLUSION VES has inhibitory effects on B(a) P-induced forestomach carcinogenesis infemale mice, especially by ip and it may be apotential anti-cancer agent in vivo. | Kun Wu1 Yu Juan Shan1 Yan Zhao1 Jian Wu Yu2 Bai He Liu1 1Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, School of Public Health, Harbin Medical University, Harbin 150001, Heilongjiang Province, China2The Second Affiliated Hospital, Harbin Medical University, Harbin 150001, Heilongjiang Province, China | 2001 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2001,7,1: | 24
Physical analysis and numerical simulation for the dynamic behaviour of vehicles in pitching oscillations or rocking motions显示文摘Analytical methods of nonlinear dynamics and numerical simulations for the cou-pling equations of Navier-Stokes and flight mechanics are used to study the dynamic behaviour of pitching motions of reentry capsules with the variation of Mach number, and rocking motions of swept wings with the variation of angle of attack. Conditions under which the dynamic instability, Hopf bifurcation and saddle-node bifurcation occur are obtained. The node-saddle-node topological structure in the phase portrait, i.e. the state of bi-attractors (attracting basins) is described. The evolving process of dynamic behaviour and flow fields are given. The theories are compared with some numerical simulations conducted by the authors. Besides, some verifiable experi-mental results are cited. The agreement between them is very well. | ZHANG HanXin1,2,3, ZHANG Zhao1,3, YUAN XianXu1,2, LIU Wei1, XIE YuFei1,2 & YE YouDa1,2 1 China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center, Mianyang 621000, China 2 National Laboratory for Computational Fluid Dynamics, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing 100083, China 3 School of Aerospace, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China | 2007 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2007,50,4: | 10

CT-guided needle biopsy through mandibular area for the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in the parapharyngeal space显示文摘Background and Objective: The primary submucous type of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) or the recurrent NPC in the parapharyngeal space is difficult to be diagnosed histologically by conventional biopsy because of the obstruction of the surrounding structures. This study was performed to evaluate the needle biopsy approach through the madibular area into the parapharyngeal space under the guidance of computed tomography (CT) for NPC. Methods: Between July 6, 2005 and October 23, 2009, a total of 6 patients were enrolled into the study. Two patients with cervical lymph node metastasis were clinically suspicious of NPC according to their clinical manifestations. However, no cancer cell could be found by repeated nasopharyngeal biopsies followed by histologic examinations. The other 4 patients were diagnosed with recurrent NPCs by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or/and positron emission tomography (PET)-CT scan, showing tumors in the parapharyngeal spaces in 3 patients and enlarged retropharyngeal lymph node in 1 patient. The CT-guided puncture was performed through the mandibular skin and the cutting needle biopsy was taken at the parapharyngeal space focus. Results: All the cutting needle biopsies of projected locations have been performed safely. Finally, all the 7 specimens met the requirement of pathologic diagnosis and the cases were all confirmed histologically to be NPCs. The main complication was mild ache at the puncture point. No blood vessel or nerve was injured and no patient needed special treatment. Conclusions: The CT-guided puncture biopsy of the parapharyngeal space through the mandibular area is simple and feasible. It can be an additional option for routine nasopharyngeal biopsy. | Yong Su1,2, Chong Zhao1,2, Wen-Jie Li1,2, Xue-Ying Deng1,3, Rui-Fang Zeng1,2, Nian-Ji Cui1,2, Tai-Xiang Lu1,2 1 State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510060, P. | 6 | Mesh theory of angle modified dual tori double-enveloping toroidal worm drive显示文摘In this paper, the meshing theory of the angle modified hourglass worm drive is enriched and developed. The ordinary condition of the angle modification is derived and the physical significance of the modification is interpreted. A normal section methodology is proposed for meshing analysis, which can be used to compute the normal distance near a singular meshing point of a conjugate surface couple. By means of the method and after analyzing the normal transversals, it is specified that the worm helicoid, the nominal former contact zone and the new contact zone intersect each other along the locus of singular points of the instantaneous contact lines of an angle-modified worm pair. As a result, it is explained clearly that those three osculate each other but the osculations are different in degree. Moreover, the mechanism of removing the twice-contacted zone from the worm gear tooth surface is clarified and the reason of shortening the worm working length is also elucidated. With the help of the theory described in the present paper and the thorough and systematic research on the relevant meshing characteristics, the angle modified dual tori double-enveloping toroidal worm drive has been shown to be an excellent new-fashioned hourglass worm set. | ZHAO YaPing1, SU DaiZhong2, ZHANG Zhao1, WEI WenJun3 & DONG XueZhu3 1 College of Machinery and Automation, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430081, China 2 Advanced Design and Manufacturing Engineering Center, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham NG1 4BU, UK 3 College of Engineering, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100083, China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,7: | 4

Human Causes of Aeolian Desertification in Northern China显示文摘Aeolian desertification has rapidly developed in the past 50 years in Northern China, covered an area of 0.386 million km2 by 2000,affected nearly 170 million population, and caused the direct and indirect economic loss of about $6.75(U.S.dollar) billion per year. Here we present several lines of evidence to demonstrate that human activities guided by policy shifts have been a major force to drive aeolian desertification via changes in land-use patterns and intensity. It is suggested that the desertification can be curbed or even reversed by adopting prevention and control measures with ecologically sound land-use practices in China. | Tao Wang1*,Xian Xue1,Yiqi Luo2,3,Xuhui Zhou2,Bao Yang1,Wanqun Ta1,Wei Wu4,Lihua Zhou1,Qingwei Sun1,XunmingWang1,Halin Zhao1,Xueyong Zhao1 1.Key Laboratory of Desert and Desertification,Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Insti-tute,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Lanzhou Gansu 730000,China 2.Department of Botany and Microbiology,University of Oklahoma,Norman,Oklahoma 73019-0245,USA 3.School of Life Sciences,Fudan University,Shanghai 200433,China 4.Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100085,China | 2008 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2008,,1: | 3
Simulation of molecular dynamics of silver subcritical nuclei and crystal clusters during solidification显示文摘Molecular dynamics simulation is carried out to investigate the effects of cooling rate on the final configurations of silver after rapid solidification. The cooling rate for the formation of a silver amorphous phase is determined by analyzing its pair distribution function, H-A bond index, and the largest crystal cluster. Further, the equilibrium structures of the subcritical nuclei and crystal clusters are studied. The results show that the solidified microstructure is composed of a mixture of crystal clusters and amorphous phases at a certain cooling rate range. The size of the largest crystal cluster decreases with the increasing cooling rate, and it completely disappears when the cooling rate exceeds a critical value. The structures of the subcritical nuclei and the largest crystal cluster are composed of lamellar structures of fcc and hcp atoms, indicating that the lamellar structure of fcc and hcp atoms in the silver crystal originates from nucleation, and not from the growth of crystals. | JIAN ZengYun1, CHEN Ji1, CHANG FangE1, ZENG Zhao1, HE Tan1 & JIE WanQi2 1 School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi’an Technological University, Xi’an 710032, China 2 State Key Laboratory of Solidification Processing, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an 710072, China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,12: | 3

Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation approach through the spleen:initial case report for pancreatic tail gastrinoma显示文摘Gastrinoma has a low incidence, and the pancreas-originated gastrinoma is rare.Pancreatic gastrinoma patients with liver metastases have poor prognosis and short survival.Local treatment to reduce the tumor burden helps to improve symptoms and slows down tumor progression for patients with unresectable tumors. We report a case of pancreatic tail gastrinoma with unresectable liver metastases. The patient received a comprehensive minimally invasive interventional treatment, that is, chemoembolization and radiofrequency ablation for liver metastases, and percutaneous transplenic radiofrequency ablation combined with radioactive 125I seed implantation for pancreatic tail gastrinoma. The patient was followed up for more than 20 months, and showed no clear evidence of tumor recurrence. We explored the safety and feasibility of percutaneous transplenic radiofrequency ablation for unresectable pancreatic tail gastrinoma. This transplenic approach allow more indications for minimally invasive therapy and provides a new treatment option not only for patients with unresectable pancreatic tail tumor but also for patients refusing surgery. | Pei-Hong Wu1,2, Chang-Chuan Pan1,2, Zi-Lin Huang1,2, Wang Li1,2, Ming Zhao1,2, Zhi-Wei Zhou1,3 1 State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510060, P.R.China 2 Department of Medical Imaging & Interventional Radiology, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510060, P.R.China 3 Department of Abdominal Oncology, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510060, P.R.China | 2010 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2010,29,9: | 2
