| 1 | Type 2 diabetes mellitus and CA 19-9 levels显示文摘AIM:To prospectively investigate serum CA 19-9 levels in type 2 diabetic patients in comparison with age-and gender-matched control subjects. METHODS:We recorded duration of diabetes and examined fasting glucose levels,HbA1c levels and serum CA 19-9 levels in 76 type 2 diabetic patients and 76 controls.Abdominal CT was performed in order to eliminate abdominal malignancy in the diabetic and control groups. RESULTS:The average CA 19-9 level was 46.0±22.4 U/mL for diabetic patients whereas it was 9.97±7.1 U/mL for the control group(P<0.001).Regression analysis showed a positive correlation between diabetes and CA 19-9 independent from age,gender,glucose level and HbA1c level(t=8.8,P<001).Two of the diabetic patients were excluded from the study because of abdominal malignancy shown by CT at the initial evaluation.For all patients,abdominal CT showed no pancreatic abnormalities. CONCLUSION:CA 19-9 is a tumor-associated antigen, which is elevated in pancreatic,upper gastrointestinal tract,ovarian hepatocellular,and colorectal cancers,as well as in inflammatory conditions of the hepatobiliary system,biliary obstruction and in thyroid diseases. Diabetes has been claimed to be a risk factor for pancreatic cancer,which is increasing its incidence and has one of the lowest survival rates of all cancers.CA 19-9 is used in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer but is also a marker of pancreatic tissue damage that might be caused by diabetes.We propose that a higher cut- off value of CA 19-9 should be used in diabetics to differentiate benign and malignant pancreatic disease, and subtle elevations of CA 19-9 in diabetics should be considered as the indication of exocrine pancreatic dysfunction. | Oya Uygur-Bayramicli Resat Dabak Ekrem Orbay Can Dolapclo■lu Mehmet Sargin Gamze Kilico■lu Yüksel Güleryüzlü Alpaslan Mayada■li | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,40: | 63 |

| 7 | Study on the Removal of Ammonia Nitrogen from Wastewater Using Microwave Coupled with Active Carbon显示文摘[Objective]The study aimed to discuss the feasibility and optimal conditions of removing ammonia nitrogen by using microwave coupled with active carbon. [Method]In the study,a novel process,microwave radiation coupled with active carbon,was applied to remove ammonia nitrogen from wastewater,and the influences of solution pH,air conditions,active carbon usage,microwave power and time on the removal effect of ammonia nitrogen were studied. [Result]Microwave coupled with active carbon can remove ammonia nitrogen efficiently,and pumping air into the wastewater can also increase the removal rate of ammonia nitrogen to a certain extent. Higher pH,intensive microwave power and longer treating time could also increase the removal rate of ammonia nitrogen using microwave radiation coupled with active carbon,whereas the usage of active carbon contributed a small impact. It was proved that microwave coupled with active carbon was an effective method for the removal of ammonia nitrogen from wastewater. Meanwhile,the orthogonal experiment results showed that the removal rate of ammonia nitrogen reached 92. 5% under the optimal conditions,that is,the usage of active carbon was 0. 5 g,pH =11,microwave radiation power was 850 W,and microwave action time was 4 minutes. | 8 | The Photochemical Study of HSA and BSA with Resonance Light Scattering and Fluorescence Spectra显示文摘The resonance light-scattering (RLS) of human serum albumin (HSA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) is reported for the first time, and applied to study photochemical reaction of HSA and BSA. The fact of photocrosslinking self-association effect in HSA and BSA solutions is identified by the enhancement of RLS. The fluorescence quenching at about 350 um and 700 um proves that tryptophan (Trp) residues are one of the photochemical activity sites in HSA and BSA molecules. The Rayleigh scattering (RS) spectra of HSA and BSA that were neglected in fluorescence spectra before are found at about 296 um, 592 um and 888 um for the first time, and are of adventageous to studying the aggregation of HSA or BSA. | 14 | Preparation and characterization of highly active nanosized strontium-doped lanthanum cobaltate catalysts with high surface areas显示文摘La1?xSrxCoO3?δ (x=0, 0.4) nanoparticles have been prepared using the citric acid complex-ing-hydrothermal synthesis coupled method and citric acid complexing method. The physico-chemical properties of these materials were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM), element analysis (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS), oxygen temperature-programmed desorption (O2-TPD), hydrogen temperature-programmed re-duction (H2-TPR) as well as surface area measure-ments and oxidation state titration. Their catalytic performance was examined for the total oxidation of ethylacetate (EA). It is found that the La1?xSrxCoO3?δ (x=0, 0.4) catalysts were single-phase and rhombo-hedrally-structured perovskites and their surface ar-eas ranged from 16 to 26 m2/g. The Sr-doped sample derived from the coupled procedure was uniformly distributed nanoparticles with a short rod-shaped morphology. The doping of Sr (i) enhanced the con-centrations of Co3+ and oxygen vacancies, (ii) in-creased the amount of oxygen adsorbed on the sur-face at low temperatures, (iii) promoted the mobility of lattice oxygen, and (iv) improved the properties of redox. The La0.6Sr0.4CoO2.78 catalyst prepared by the citric acid complexing-hydrothermal synthesis cou-pled strategy performed the best in the oxidation of EA, furthermore no partially oxidized products were formed.
