1维生素C与感冒:对Chalmers综述的分析显示文摘1975年,ThomasChalmers通过7个安慰剂对照试验,计算了对照组和服用维生素C组受试者感冒持续时间之间的平均差异,对维生素C在感冒中的可能作用进行了分析。他发现维生素C组感冒持续时间较对照组仅缩短(0.11±0.24)天,因此认为维生素C对治疗感冒没有明显的疗效。此后,Chalmers的这篇文章经常被一些学术文章和专论所引用。但是,还有些作者认为,维生素C可显著减轻感冒所引起的各种症状。通过详细分析,我们发现Chalmers的论文存在着一些比较严重的缺点,如Chalmers没有考虑到维生素C的剂量问题,在他所分析的试验研究中,试验组维生素C的剂量仅为0.025~0.05g/d。在另外一些研究中,Chalmers使用了一些与以前研究结果不一致的数据。我们利用同样的试验研究发现维生素C(1~6g/d)可使感冒持续时间显著下降(0.93±0.22)天,感冒持续时间相对降低21%。有关争论有待进一步临床研究。Harri Hemila Zelek S.Herman 2003中国临床营养杂志2003,11,1:6
2Non-timber forest products and household incomes in Bonga forest area,southwestern Ethiopia显示文摘We identified the major non-timber forest products(NTFPs),their contributions to household incomes,and the determinants influencing engagement of households in using NTFPs in the Bonga forest area of Gimbo and Decha Districts of Kaffa Zone,southwest Ethiopia.Six Kebeles(the lowest administrative unit in Ethiopia)were sampled from two Districts and 150 households were randomly sampled using proportionalto-size techniques based on the number of farm households in each Kebele.Secondary data were collected from and focus group discussions were conducted with selected individuals.The farmers diversified livelihood activities such as crop and livestock production,collection of NTFPs and off-farm activities.NTFPs played a significant role in household incomes.The contribution from the major NTFPs(forest coffee,honey and spices)accounted for 47%of annual household income.The role of NTFPs was influenced by a number of factors.Variables including being native to the area(+),total land holding(+),possession of livestock(+)and access to extension(+)significantly affected forest coffee production.Age of household head(-),land holding(+)and distance of the market from the residence(-)significantly affected honey production.Size of landholding(+),distance to market(-)and distance of the forest from the residence(-)were significant variables determining the NTFP incomes derived by the households.Attention is needed in the design of policies and strategies for the well-being of households to the contribution of NTFPs to local incomes and the variables that affect the collection of NTFPs must be considered.Ermias Melaku Zeleke Ewnetu Demel Teketay 2014Journal of Forestry Research2014,25,1:5
3Effect of grazing time and intensity on growth and yield of spring wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)显示文摘A simulated grazing field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of timing and intensity of grazing on the growth and yield of a mid-late maturing spring wheat(cv. Flanker) under different watering regimes, at Wagga Wagga in southeastern Australia. The experiment was a factorial design of watering regime and pasture 'grazing' as factors, with three replications. The two watering regimes were rainfed(R) and supplemental irrigation(I). There were four simulated grazing treatments: no grazing, 'crash' grazing by mowing to 5 cm height on 13 June(Cut1-5), 'crash' grazing by mowing to 5 cm on 15 July(Cut2-5) and 'clip' grazing by mowing to 15 cm height on 15 July(Cut2-15). The lowest dry matter(simulated grazing) was obtained from RCut1-5(0.13 t ha^(–1)) and the highest(0.86 t ha^(–1)) was from ICut2-5. There was no significant difference(P<0.05) among the grain yields of the grazing treatments in the respective watering regimes. However, there was significant difference(P<0.05) between the grain yields of the rainfed(3.60 t ha^(–1)) and irrigated(6.0 t ha^(–1)) treatments. Under both watering regimes, the highest grain yield was obtained from the late 'clip' grazings: 3.79 t ha^(–1)(RCut2-15) for rainfed and 6.47 t ha^(–1)(ICut2-15) for irrigated treatments. The lowest grain yield for the rainfed treatment was 3.26 t ha^(–1)(RCut1-5) and for the irrigated treatments, the lowest grain yield was 5.50 t ha^(–1)(ICut2-5). Harvest index(HI) was not significantly affected(P>0.05) by either the watering regime or grazing. Seed weight was significantly(P<0.05) affected both by the watering regime and grazing with the lowest value for 1 000-seed weight of 30.05 g(RCut2-5) and the highest value of 38.00 g(ICut2-15). Water use efficiency was significantly(P<0.05) affected both by the watering regime and grazing with the lowest value of 9.94 kg ha^(–1) mm^(–1)(ICut2-5) and the highest value 13.43 kg ha^(–1) mm^(–1)(RCut2-5). By 'crash' grazing late(just before stem elongation stage) to a height of 5 cm, a significantly higher(P<0.05) above ground dry matter can be grazed without significantly affecting the yield both in seasons with low amount of rainfall and high amount of rainfall(irrigated in this study) although in a wet season a slightly lower(15% lower) grain yield is obtained relative to 'clip grazing' to 15 cm height. 5Molecular epidemiology of Giardia duodenalis infection in humans in Southern Ethiopia:a triosephosphate isomerase gene-targeted analysis显示文摘Background:Giardia duodenalis is a species complex consisting of multiple genetically distinct assemblages.The species imposes a major public health crisis on developing countries.However,the molecular diversity,transmission dynamics and risk factors of the species in these countries are indeterminate.This study was conducted to determine the molecular epidemiology of G.duodenalis infection in asymptomatic individuals in Southern Ethiopia.Methods:From March to June 2014,fresh stool samples were collected from 590 randomly selected individuals.Socio-demographic data were gathered using a pre-tested structured questionnaire.The genotyping was done using triosephosphate isomerase gene-based nested polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequencing.The genetic identity and relatedness of isolates were determined using the basic local alignment search tool and phylogenetic analysis.Risk factors associated with G.duodenalis infection were analysed using binary and multinomial logistic regression models.Results:The results showed that 18.1%(92/509)of the study subjects were infected by G.duodenalis.Among the isolates,35.9%(33/92)and 21.7%(20/92)were sub-typed into assemblages A and B,respectively,whereas 42.4%(39/92)showed mixed infections of A and B.Most of the assemblage A isolates(94%,31/33)were 100%identical to sequences registered in GenBank,of which the majority belonged to sub-assemblage AII.However,the high genetic variability and frequency of double peaks made sub-genotyping of assemblage B more problematic and only 20%(4/20)of the isolates matched 100%with the sequences.The risk factors of age(P=0.032)and type of drinking water source(P=0.003)both showed a significant association with the occurrence G.duodenalis infection.Conclusions:This study established the endemicity of G.duodenalis in Southern Ethiopia.Infection with assemblage A was more frequent than with assemblage B,and the rate of infection was higher in children and in municipal/tap and open spring water consumers than the other groups.Sub-typing of assemblage B and determining the origin of double peaks were challenging.The present study confirms the need for further inclusive studies to be conducted focusing on sub-types of assemblage B and the origin of heterogeneity.Mengistu Damitie Zeleke Mekonnen Tadesse Getahun Dante Santiago Luc Leyns 2018Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018,7,1:2
