1Identification of Sheep Ovary Genes Potentially Associated with Off-season Reproduction显示文摘Off-season reproduction is a favorable economic trait for sheep industry.Hu sheep,an indigenous Chinese sheep breed,demonstrates a higher productivity of lambs and displays year-around oestrous behavior under proper nutrition and environment.The genetic basis behind these traits,however,is not well understood.In order to identify genes associated with the off-season reproduction,we constructed a suppression subtractive hybridization(SSH) cDNA library using pooled ovary mRNAs of 6 oestrous Hu females as a tester and the pooled ovary mRNAs of 6 non-oestrous Chinese Merino females as a driver.A total of 382 resulting positive clones were obtained after the SSH.We identified 114 differentially up-regulated genes in oestrous Hu sheep by using subsequent screening and DNA sequencing,of which 8 were previously known,93 were reported for the first time in sheep,and 13 were novel with no significant homology to any sequence in the DNA databases.Functions of the genes identified are related to cell division,signal transduction,structure,metabolism,or cell defense.To validate the results of SSH,6 genes(Ntrk2,Ppap2b,Htra1,Nid1,Serpine2 and Foxola) were selected for conformational analysis using quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR),and two of them(Htral and Foxola) were verified by Northern blot.All of the 6 genes were differentially up-regulated in the ovary of oestrous Hu.It is obvious that off-season reproduction is a complex trait involving multiple genes in multiple organs.This study helps to provide a foundation for the final identification of functional genes involved in the sheep ovary.Lei Chen Ka Liu Zongsheng Zhao Hugh T.Blair Peng Zhang Daquan Li Runlin Z.Ma 2012Journal of Genetics and Genomics2012,39,4:3

3Local perceptions of the conversion of cropland to forestland program in Jiangxi, Shaanxi, and Sichuan, China显示文摘Numerous land-use policies have been implemented in China in recent decades for ecological restoration and conservation to reduce environmental disasters and promote environmental sustainability.Many of these policies follow a top-down approach to implementation and as such,emphasize the hierarchical control within government structures.An understanding of local perceptions of land-use policies is important if the disconnect between policy makers and the target population is to be reduced and if program support is to improve.This study aimed to help improve local implementation,attitude toward,and engagement by examining the influence of socio-economic characteristics on the target population’s(local farmers)perception of the conversion of cropland to forestland program(CFPP)land use policy in Jiangxi,Sichuan,and Shaanxi provinces.It uses logistical regression models,with robust aspects of perception including confidence,support,transparency,prospects,fairness,and willingness to participate.Results indicate that social aspects as well as economic aspects are most important in influencing farmers’perceptions towards the CFPP.The farmers who have received technical support,rural male habitants,educated,and non-middle-aged farmers exhibit more positive perceptions of the program and are much more likely to support it,whereas farmers without any technical support or formal education,and female and middle-aged farmers are less likely to support the program.Importantly,this study also reveals the differences in responses,experiences and perceptions of the farmers living across different provinces.These empirical results provide insight into the influence of socio-economic characteristics on the perception of farmers towards land-use policies,which has important implications for designing targeted policy instruments and increasing farmer support for these policies.This knowledge can be harnessed and further evaluated in future research to improve citizen engagement,support,and understanding in order to help ecological restoration and conservation objectives be more effectively achieved.Guangyu Wang Oliver Z.Ma Liguo Wang Anil Shrestha Baozhang Chen Feng Mi Shirong Liu Xiaomin Guo Sarah Eshpeter John L.Innes 2019Journal of Forestry Research2019,30,5:1

7Dual functions:A coumarin–chalcone conjugate inhibits cyclic-di-GMP and quorum-sensing signaling to reduce biofilm formation and virulence of pathogens显示文摘Antibiotic resistance or tolerance of pathogens is one of the most serious global public health threats.Bacteria in biofilms show extreme tolerance to almost all antibiotic classes.Thus,use of antibiofilm drugs without bacterial-killing effects is one of the strategies to combat antibiotic tolerance.In this study,we discovered a coumarin–chalcone conjugate C9,which can inhibit the biofilm formation of three common pathogens that cause nosocomial infections,namely,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Staph-ylococcus aureus,and Escherichia coli,with the best antibiofilm activity against P.aeruginosa.Further investigations indicate that C9 decreases the synthesis of the key biofilm matrix exopolysaccharide Psl and bacterial second messenger cyclic-di-GMP.Meanwhile,C9 can interfere with the regulation of the quorum sensing(QS)system to reduce the virulence of P.aeruginosa.C9 treatment enhances the sensitivity of biofilm to several antibiotics and reduces the survival rate of P.aeruginosa under starvation or oxidative stress conditions,indicating its excellent potential for use as an antibiofilm-forming and anti-QS drug.Yu Zhang Pramod Bhasme Dinesh S.Reddy Dejian Liu Zhaoxiao Yu Tianhu Zhao Yaqian Zheng Amit Kumar Haiying Yu Luyan Z.Ma 2023mLife2023,2,3:0
