| 4 | Prevalence of HIV Indeterminate Western Blot Tests and Follow-up of HIV Antibody Sero-Conversion in Southeastern China显示文摘HIV-indeterminate Western blotting(WB)results are typically obtained in WB confirmatory assays,and the number of indeterminate samples may increase with the detection of HIV infections,which will present considerable challenges for the management of HIV/AIDS.Nucleic acid detection has been used as a laboratory test for screening suspected or indeterminate samples.However,the effectiveness of these assays for the differential diagnosis of HIV-indeterminate WB samples remained undetermined.In this study,210 subjects with HIV-indeterminate WB results were detected from 6360 positive HIV screening samples between 2015 and 2016 in southeastern China,in which HIV-indeterminate WB results accounted for 3.30%.The highest proportion of indeterminate results was observed in pregnant and lying-in women receiving physical examinations(16.67%),followed by that in voluntary blood donors(8.82%).The most common WB band patterns were p24,gpl60 and p24,and gpl60.The follow-up study revealed that the highest negative and positive conversion rates of HIV antibodies were in samples with a single p24 band(80.28%),and with gpl60 and p24 bands(86.21%),respectively.Among the Env,Gag,and Pol antibodies,samples with a Gag band showed the highest negative conversion rate(81.25%),whereas the highest positive conversion rate was observed in samples with an Env band(56.76%).In addition,quantitative and qualitative HIV nucleic acid testing exhibited the highest sensitivity(96.3%)and specificity(97.85%),respectively.Our results indicate a lower proportion of HIV indeterminate WB results in southeastern China compared to previous reports,and the follow-up re-examination of patients with HIV indeterminate results should be performed.Nucleic acid testing facilitates the identification of HIV infections. | Shouli Wu Min Gao Jian Zheng Pingping Yan Wei Wang Xiaoli Lu Yuefeng Qiu Yansheng Yan | 2019 | Virologica Sinica2019,34,4: | 15 |
| 5 | Punicalagin ameliorates collagen-induced arthritis by downregulating M1 macrophage and pyroptosis via NF-κB signaling pathway显示文摘Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is a chronic inflammatory disease that eventually leads to disability.Inflammatory cell infiltration,severe joint breaking and systemic bone loss are the main clinical symptoms.In this study,we established a collagen-induced arthritis(CIA)model and found a large number of M1 macrophages and pyroptosis,which are important sources of proinflammatory cytokines.Punicalagin(PUN)is an active substance extracted from pomegranate peel.We found that it inhibited joint inflammation,cartilage damage and systemic bone destruction in CIA mice.PUN effectively alleviated the high expression of inflammatory cytokines in synovial tissue in vivo.PUN treatment shifted macrophages from the M1 phenotype to the M2 phenotype after stimulation with lipopolysaccharide(LPS)and interferon(IFN)-γ.The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS)and other proinflammatory cytokines released by M1 macrophages was decreased in the PUN treatment group.However,simultaneously,the expression of markers of anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages,such as arginase(Arg)-1 and interleukin(IL)-10,was increased.In addition,PUN treatment attenuated pyroptosis by downregulating the expression of NLRP3 and caspase-1,thereby preventing inflammatory cell death resulting from the release of IL-1βand IL-18.Mechanistically,PUN inhibited the activation of receptor activators of the nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)signaling pathway,which contributes to M1 polarization and pyroptosis of macrophages.We concluded that PUN ameliorated pathological inflammation by inhibiting M1 phenotype polarization and pyroptosis and has great potential as a therapeutic treatment for human RA. | Gaoran Ge Jiaxiang Bai Qing Wang Xiaolong Liang Huaqiang Tao Hao Chen Minggang Wei Junjie Niu Huilin Yang Yaozeng Xu Yuefeng Hao Yi Xue Dechun Geng | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,3: | 14 |

| 7 | Paleoclimate Modeling in China: A Review显示文摘This paper provides a review of paleoclimate modeling activities in China. Rather than attempt to cover all topics, we have chosen a few climatic intervals and events judged to be particularly informative to the international community. In historical climate simulations, changes in solar radiation and volcanic activity explain most parts of reconstructions over the last millennium prior to the industrial era, while atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations play the most important role in the20 th century warming over China. There is a considerable model–data mismatch in the annual and boreal winter temperature change over China during the mid-Holocene [6000 years before present(ka BP)], while coupled models with an interactive ocean generally perform better than atmospheric models. For the Last Glacial Maximum(21 ka BP), climate models successfully reproduce the surface cooling trend over China but fail to reproduce its magnitude, with a better performance for coupled models. At that time, reconstructed vegetation and western Pacific sea surface temperatures could have significantly affected the East Asian climate, and environmental conditions on the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau were most likely very different to the present day. During the late Marine Isotope Stage 3(30–40 ka BP), orbital forcing and Northern Hemisphere glaciation, as well as vegetation change in China, were likely responsible for East Asian climate change. | 9 | Generation of seed lipoxygenase-free soybean using CRISPR-Cas9显示文摘Beany flavor induced by three lipoxygenases(LOXs, including LOX1, LOX2, and LOX3)restricts human consumption of soybean. It is desirable to generate lipoxygenase-free new mutant lines to improve the eating quality of soybean oil and protein products. In this study, a pooled clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)-CRISPRassociated protein 9(Cas9) strategy targeting three GmLox genes(GmLox1, GmLox2, and GmLox3) was applied and 60 T_0 positive transgenic plants were generated, carrying combinations of sg RNAs and mutations. Among them, GmLox-28 and GmLox-60 were gmlox1 gmlox2 gmlox3 triple mutants and GmLox-40 was a gmlox1 gmlox2 double mutant.Sequencing of T_1 mutant plants derived from GmLox-28, GmLox-60, and GmLox-40 showed that mutation in the GmLox gene was inherited by the next generation. Colorimetric assay revealed that plants carrying different combinations of mutations lost the corresponding lipoxygenase activities. Transgene-free mutants were obtained by screening the T_2 generation of lipoxygenase-free mutant lines(GmLox-28 and GmLox-60). | 12 | Enhanced high-temperature performance of Li-rich layered oxide via surface heterophase coating显示文摘Li-rich layered oxides have become one of the most concerned cathode materials for high-energy lithiumion batteries, but they still suffer from poor cycling stability and detrimental voltage decay, especially at elevated temperature. Herein, we proposed a surface heterophase coating engineering based on amorphous/crystalline Li3 PO4 to address these issues for Li-rich layered oxides via a facile wet chemical method. The heterophase coating layer combines the advantages of physical barrier effect achieved by amorphous Li3 PO4 with facilitated Li+diffusion stemmed from crystalline Li3 PO4. Consequently, the modified Li(1.2) Ni(0.2) Mn(0.6) O2 delivers higher initial coulombic efficiency of 92% with enhanced cycling stability at 55 °C(192.9 mAh/g after 100 cycles at 1 C). More importantly, the intrinsic voltage decay has been inhibited as well, i.e. the average potential drop per cycle decreases from 5.96 mV to 2.99 mV. | 13 | The role of climate factors in geographic variation in body mass and wing length in a passerine bird显示文摘Background: Geographic variation in body size is assumed to reflect adaptation to local environmental conditions. Although Bergmann's rule is usually sufficient to explain such variation in homeotherms, some exceptions have been documented. The relationship between altitude, latitude and body size, has been well documented for some vertebrate taxa during the past decades. However, relatively little information is available on the effects of climate variables on body size in birds.Methods: We collected the data of 267 adult Eurasian Tree Sparrow(Passer montanus) specimens sampled at 48 localities in China's mainland, and further investigated the relationships between two response variables, body mass and wing length, as well as a suit of explanatory variables, i.e. altitude, latitude, mean annual temperature(MAT), annual precipitation(PRC), annual sunshine hours(SUN), average annual wind speed(WS), air pressure(AP) and relative humidity(RH).Results: Our study showed that(1) although the sexes did not differ significantly in body mass, males had longer wings than females;(2) body mass and wing length were positively correlated with altitude but not with latitude;(3) body mass and wing length were negatively correlated with AP and RH, but not significantly correlated with WS. Body mass was positively correlated with SUN and inversely correlated with MAT. Wing length was not correlated with MAT in either sex, but was positively correlated with SUN and negatively correlated with PRC in male sparrows;(4) variation in body mass could be best explained by AP and SUN, whereas variation in wing length could be explained by RH and AP in both sexes. In addition, variation in male sparrows can be explained by SUN, WS and PRC but not in females.Conclusions: Two different proxies of body size, body mass and wing length, correlated with same geographic factors and different climate factors. | 14 | Modification of LiCo_(1/3)Ni_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)O_2 cathode material by CeO_2-coating显示文摘LiCo1/3Ni1/3Mn1/3O2 was coated by a layer of 1.0 wt% CeO2 via sol-gel method. The bared and coated LiMn1/3Co1/3Ni1/3O2 was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscopy (SEM),cyclic voltammogram (CV) and galvanotactic charge-discharge test. The results show that the coating layer has no effect on the crystal structure,only coating on the surface; the 1.0 wt% CeO2-coated LiCo1/3Ni1/3Mn1/3O2 exhibits better discharge capacity and cycling performance than the bared LiCo1/3Ni1/3Mn1/3O2. The discharge capacity of 1.0 wt% CeO2-coated cathode is 182.5 mAh.g-1 at a current density of 20 mA.g-1,in contrast to 165.8 mAh.g-1of the bared sample. The discharge capacity retention of 1.0 wt% CeO2-coated sample after 12 cycles reaches 93.2%,in comparison with 86.6% of the bared sample. | 16 | Phase equilibria for the pseudo-ternary system(NaCl+Na2SO4+H2O)of coal gasification wastewater at T=(268.15 to 373.15)K显示文摘The pseudo-ternary system(Na Cl + Na_2SO_4+ H_2O) of coal gasification wastewater was studied at T =(268.15 to 373.15) K. The solubility and density of the equilibrium liquid phase were determined by the isothermal solution saturation method. The equilibrium solids were also investigated by the Schreinemaker's method of wet residues and X-ray powder diffraction(XRD). According to the experimental data, the phase diagrams were determined. It was found that there was no significant solubility difference on the Na Cl-rich side between the ternary system(Na Cl + Na_2SO_4+ H_2O) in coal gasification wastewater and in pure water. However, the solubility on the Na_2SO_4-rich side of coal gasification wastewater was apparently higher than that of pure water. The increase in the solubility of Na_2SO_4 was most likely caused by the effects of other impurities apart from Na Cl and Na_2SO_4 in coal gasification wastewater. | 17 | Quantitative features of myoelectric signals in the orbicularis oculi muscle during different motion states显示文摘Artificial facial nerve prostheses are thought to restore eye-closed function in peripheral facial paralysis patients. At present,however,there is no adequate quantitative or qualitative information regarding myoelectric signal(MES) features for healthy orbicularis oculi muscle(OOM) . The present study analyzed MES features of normal OOM in rabbits during the natural continuous eye-opening(N1) state,natural continuous eye-closing(N2) state,natural blink(N3) state,and evoked eye-closing(E) state according to time domain and frequency domain analysis. Results showed that OOM electrical activities in N1 and N2 states,as well as myoelectric amplitude,were low and stable. Nevertheless,during N3 and E states,OOM electrical activities were significantly increased and amplitude was much higher in the E state than in the N3 state. In the time domain,differences in MES peak absolute potential were not significant between N1 and N2 states. In the frequency domain,differences in power spectral density peak frequency of electromyogram signals were significant between two sets of four OOM movement states. These results suggest that OOM significantly contracts and induces eyelid-closing action. In addition,OOM is diastolic during the N1 state. A N2 state does not require continuous intensive OOM contraction. | 18 | Co-electrolysis of CO_2 and H_2O in high-temperature solid oxide electrolysis cells: Recent advance in cathodes显示文摘Co-electrolysis of CO_2 and H_2O using high-temperature solid oxide electrolysis cells(SOECs) into valuable chemicals has attracted great attentions recently due to the high conversion and energy efficiency,which provides opportunities of reducing CO_2 emission, mitigating global warming and storing intermittent renewable energies. A single SOEC typically consists of an ion conducting electrolyte, an anode and a cathode where the co-electrolysis reaction takes place. The high operating temperature and difficult activated carbon-oxygen double-bond of CO_2 put forward strict requirements for SOEC cathode. Great efforts are being devoted to develop suitable cathode materials with high catalytic activity and excellent long-term stability for CO_2/H_2O electro-reduction. The so far cathode material development is the key point of this review and alternative strategies of high-performance cathode material preparation is proposed. Understanding the mechanism of CO_2/H_2O electro-reduction is beneficial to highly active cathode design and optimization. Thus the possible reaction mechanism is also discussed. Especially, a method in combination with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) measurement, distribution functions of relaxation times(DRT) calculation, complex nonlinear least square(CNLS) fitting and operando ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(APXPS) characterization is introduced to correctly disclose the reaction mechanism of CO_2/H_2O co-electrolysis. Finally, different reaction modes of the CO_2/H_2O coelectrolysis in SOECs are summarized to offer new strategies to enhance the CO_2 conversion. | 20 | Examining perception of job satisfaction and intention to leave among ICU nurses in China显示文摘Objectives:Previous studies in China's Mainland found ICU nurses to be less satisfied with their jobs and more inclined to leave them than are nurses in other hospital units.We aimed to determine ICU nurses'perspectives on the factors that influence job satisfaction and whether or not to continue working in the ICU.Methods:Nine ICU nurses were asked five open-ended questions to elicit the nurses'perspectives on job satisfaction and intentions to leave.Data were analyzed according to the process described by Knafl and Webster(1988).Core concepts were identified using the constant comparative method.Results:Two themes emerged as major influences on job dissatisfaction:1)stress experienced from excessive workload demands and the ICU work environment,and 2)a lack of respect and recognition for the nurses'work.Two themes emerged as major influences on job satisfaction:1)recognition of work,and 2)professional opportunities and relationships with coworkers.The effects of job satisfaction or dissatisfaction on the nurses'intentions to leave their jobs varied,although three categories were identified.Conclusions:For ICU nurses in China,sources of job dissatisfaction are potentially remedied with simple interventions.Adequate staffing is necessary but not sufficient for a positive work environment.Administrators should address the factors that directly affect their nurses'levels of job satisfaction,as it will ultimately result in less staff turnover and greater patient care. | Hong Tao Carol H.Ellenbecker Yuefeng Wang Ying Li | 2015 | International Journal of Nursing Sciences2015,2,2: | 6 |
