| 1 | Risk assessment of heavy metals in soils and vegetables around nonferrous metals mining and smelting sites,Baiyin,China显示文摘A field survey was conducted to investigate the metal and arsenic contamination in soils and vegetables on four villages (Shuichuan (SCH), Beiwan (BWA), Dongwan (DWA) and Wufe (WFE)) located along, Baiyin, China, and to evaluate the possible health risks to local population through foodchain. Results show that the most significantly contaminated soils occurred upstream at SCH where Cd, Cu and As concentrations exceeded maximum allowable concentrations for Chinese agricultural soil. Further downstream the degree of contamination semi-systematically decreased in concentrations of metal. Generally, the leafy vegetables were more heavily contaminated than non-leafy vegetables. Chinese cabbage is the most severely contaminated, the concentrations of Cd exceeded the maximum permit levels (0.05 mg/kg) by 4.5 times. Bio-accumulate factor also shows that an entry of Cd to food chain plants is the greatest potential. Furthermore, the estimated daily intake amounts of the considered toxic elements (Cd, Pb and Cu) from the vegetables grown at SCH and BWA and DWA have exceeded the recommended dietary allowance levels. | 2 | Zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotope of Quanyishang A-type granite in Yichang: Signification for the Yangtze continental cratonization in Paleoproterozoic显示文摘Zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotope, and major and trace element compositions were reported for granite at Quanyishang, which intruded into the Kongling complex in Yichang, Hubei Province. The results show that the Quanyishang granite is rich in silicon and alkalis but poor in calcium and magnesium, and displays enrichment in Ga, Y, Zr, Nb but depletion in Sr and Ba, exhibiting the post-orogenic A-type affinity. 90% zircons from the granite are concordant, and give a middle Paleoproterozoic magmatic crystallization age (mean 1854 Ma). Initial Hf isotope ratios (176Hf/177Hf)i of the middle Paleoproterozoic zircons range from 0.280863 to 0.281134 and they have negative εHf(t) values with a minimum of -26.3. These zircons give the depleted mantle model ages (TDM) of 2.9―3.3 Ga (mean 3.0 Ga), and the average crustal model ages (Tcrust) of 3.6―4.2 Ga (mean 3.8 Ga). A Mesoarchean grain with 207Pb/206Pb age of 2859 Ma has a slightly high TDM (3.4 Ga) but similar Tcrust (3.8 Ga) to the Paleoproterozoic zircons. All these data suggest that the source materials of the Quanyishang A-type granite are unusually old, at least ≥2.9 Ga (even Eoarchean). The event of crustal remelting, which resulted in the formation of the Quanyishang granite in the middle Paleoproterozoic, recorded the cratonization of the Yangtze conti- nent. | 3 | Anti-SARS-CoV-2 activities in vitro of Shuanghuanglian preparations and bioactive ingredients显示文摘Human infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)causes coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and there is no cure currently.The 3CL protease(3CLpro)is a highly conserved protease which is indispensable for CoVs replication,and is a promising target for development of broad-spectrum antiviral drugs.In this study we investigated the anti-SARS-CoV-2 potential of Shuanghuanglian preparation,a Chinese traditional patent medicine with a long history for treating respiratory tract infection in China.We showed that either the oral liquid of Shuanghuanglian,the lyophilized powder of Shuanghuanglian for injection or their bioactive components dose-dependently inhibited SARS-CoV-23CLpro as well as the replication of SARS-CoV-2 in Vero E6 cells.Baicalin and baicalein,two ingredients of Shuanghuanglian,were characterized as the first noncovalent,nonpeptidomimetic inhibitors of SARS-CoV-23CLpro and exhibited potent antiviral activities in a cell-based system.Remarkably,the binding mode of baicalein with SARS-CoV-23CLpro determined by X-ray protein crystallography was distinctly different from those of known 3CLpro inhibitors.Baicalein was productively ensconced in the core of the substrate-binding pocket by interacting with two catalytic residues,the crucial S1/S2 subsites and the oxyanion loop,acting as a“shield”in front of the catalytic dyad to effectively prevent substrate access to the catalytic dyad within the active site.Overall,this study provides an example for exploring the in vitro potency of Chinese traditional patent medicines and effectively identifying bioactive ingredients toward a specific target,and gains evidence supporting the in vivo studies of Shuanghuanglian oral liquid as well as two natural products for COVID-19 treatment. | Hai-xia Su Sheng Yao Wen-feng Zhao Min-jun Li Jia Liu Wei-juan Shang Hang Xie Chang-qiang Ke Hang-chen Hu Mei-na Gao Kun-qian Yu Hong Liu Jing-shan Shen Wei Tang Lei-ke Zhang Geng-fu Xiao Li Ni Dao-wen Wang Jian-ping Zuo Hua-liang Jiang Fang Bai Yan Wu Yang Ye Ye-chun Xu | 2020 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2020,41,9: | 32 |

| 7 | Predictive value of the Chinese group on the study of severe hepatitis B-acute-on-chronic liver failure score in the short-term prognosis of patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure显示文摘Background:As a large,prospective,multicenter study-based prognostic score for hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure(HBV-ACLF),the Chinese group on the study of severe hepatitis B-acute-on-chronic liver failure score(COSSH-ACLFs),has been approved by some foreign scholars;however,its predictive value needs to be verified.This study investigated the predictive value of COSSH-ACLFs for short-term prognosis in Chinese patients with HBV-ACLF.Methods:This retrospective cohort study included 751 patients with HBV-ACLF admitted to the Fifth Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital between January 2011 and December 2014.Spearman method was used to assess the correlation of COSSHACLFs with classical scores.Different COX multivariate regression models were used to confirm the relationship between COSSHACLFs and short-term prognosis in patients with HBV-ACLF,and stratified analysis was used to further verify the stability of this relationship.We compared the predictive powers of COSSH-ACLFs and other classical scores using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC)and Z-test.Results:A total of 975 patients with HBV-ACLF were screened,and 751 were analyzed(623 male and 128 female).COSSH-ACLFs was the highest in patients with end-stage ACLF,followed by those with middle-and early-stage ACLF(H=211.8,P<0.001).In the fully adjusted model,COX multivariate regression analysis revealed that COSSH-ACLFs(as a continuous variable)was independently and positively correlated with mortality risk in patients with HBV-ACLF at 28 days(hazard ratio[HR]:1.37[1.22,1.53],P<0.001)and 90 days(HR:1.43[1.29,1.58],P<0.001).The same trend could be observed in the crude model and minimally adjusted model.The AUROCs of COSSH-ACLFs for 28-day and 90-day prognoses in patients with HBV-ACLF were 0.807 and 0.792,respectively,indicating a stronger predictive accuracy than those of classic models.Conclusions:COSSH-ACLFs,with a superior predictive accuracy compared with other classical scores,can strongly predict shortterm prognosis in Chinese patients with HBV-ACLF. | Jing-Jing Tong Wei Zhao Xiu-Ying Mu Xiang Xu Hai-Bin Su Xiao-Yan Liu Jing Chen Xing-Ran Zhai Yu Wang Jin-Hua Hu | 2019 | Chinese Medical Journal2019,,13: | 27 |

| 11 | Exploration of the formation mechanism and source attribution of ambient ozone in Chongqing with an observation-based model显示文摘An intensive field campaign was conducted in Chongqing during the summer of 2015 to explore the formation mechanisms of ozone pollution. The sources of ozone, the local production rates, and the controlling factors, as well as key species of volatile organic compounds(VOCs), were quantified by integrating a local ozone budget analysis, calculations of the relative incremental reactivity, and an empirical kinetic model approach. It was found that the potential for rapid local ozone formation exists in Chongqing. During ozone pollution episodes, the ozone production rates were found to be high at the upwind station Nan Quan, the urban station Chao Zhan, and the downwind station Jin-Yun Shan. The average local ozone production rate was 30×10^(-9) V/V h^(-1) and the daily integration of the produced ozone was greater than 180×10^(-9) V/V. High ozone concentrations were associated with urban and downwind air masses. At most sites, the local ozone production was VOC-limited and the key species were aromatics and alkene, which originated mainly from vehicles and solvent usage. In addition, the air masses at the northwestern rural sites were NO_x-limited and the local ozone production rates were significantly higher during the pollution episodes due to the increased NOx concentrations. In summary, the ozone abatement strategies of Chongqing should be focused on the mitigation of VOCs. | 13 | Chemical characteristics and source apportionment of PM_(2.5) between heavily polluted days and other days in Zhengzhou, China显示文摘PM_(2.5) samples were collected in Zhengzhou during 3 years of observation, and chemical characteristics and source contribution were analyzed. Approximately 96% of the daily PM_(2.5) concentrations and annual average values exceeded the Chinese National Ambient Air Quality Daily and Annual Standards, indicating serious PM_(2.5) pollution. The average concentration of water-soluble inorganic ions was 2.4 times higher in heavily polluted days(daily PM32.5 concentrations > 250 μg/mand visibility < 3 km) than that in other days, with sulfate, nitrate, and ammonium as major ions. According to the ratio of NO-3/SO2-4,stationary sources are still the dominant source of PM_(2.5) and vehicle emission could not be ignored. The ratio of secondary organic carbon to organic carbon indicated that photochemical reactivity in heavily polluted days was more intense than in other days.Crustal elements were the most abundant elements, accounting for more than 60% of 23 elements. Chemical Mass Balance results indicated that the contributions of major sources(i.e., nitrate, sulfate, biomass, carbon and refractory material, coal combustion, soil dust,vehicle, and industry) of PM_(2.5) were 13%, 16%, 12%, 2%, 14%, 8%, 7%, and 8% in heavily polluted days and 20%, 18%, 9%, 2%, 27%, 14%, 15%, and 9% in other days, respectively.Extensive combustion activities were the main sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons during the episode(Jan 1-9, 2015) and the total benzo[a]pyrene equivalency concentrations in heavily polluted days present significant health threat. | 15 | Hepatitis B viral load affects prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a complex disease that is dually challenging to treat due to underlying chronic liver disease in addition to the cancer itself.The prognosis of patients with HCC is determined by intrahepatic tumor status and reserved hepatic function.Hepatitis B virus(HBV)is an established major risk factor of HCC development,and HBV viral load is being increasingly recognized as a prognostic factor in the presence of established HCC.High HBV viral load may affect the prognosis of HBV-related HCC patients in several ways.First,it is associated with more frequent recurrence of HBV-related HCC after treatment.Second,it is associated with more occurrence and severity of potentially life-threatening HBV reactivation.Last,it is associated with more worsened liver function,which limits the therapeutic options for HBV-related HCC.HBV,directly or indirectly,can induce hepatocarcinogenesis.In patients with a high HBV DNA level and subsequent active hepatitis,adhesion molecules expressed on the sinusoidal cells are up-regulated and may increase intrahepatic metastasis.HCC progression after treatment can lead to a poor prognosis by reducing number of normal functioning hepatocytes.Thus,high HBV viral load can affect the prognosis of patientswith HCC by frequent recurrence after treatment for HCC and deterioration of hepatic function associated with HCC progression.Recent meta-analysis showed that antiviral treatment reduces HCC recurrence and liver-related mortality after curative therapy of HCC.Given the strong relationship between high HBV DNA load and poor survival outcome of HCC patients due to cancer progression,it is expected that long-term antiviral therapy results in the sustained HBV suppression,control of inflammation,reduction in HCC progression,and eventually in improved overall survival. | Su Jong Yu Yoon Jun Kim | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,34: | 21 |
| 16 | Changed clinical aspects of primary liver cancer in China during the past 30 years显示文摘BACKGROUND: Primary liver cancer (PLC) is one of the most frequently seen tumors in China. Thirty years ago, patients with PLC were often detected at relatively late stage, with a palpable mass or marked clinical symptoms and poor prognosis. In the past 30 years, the diagnosis and treatment of PLC have been greatly improved with better prognosis. METHODS: In order to study the changes of PLC during the 30 years, the clinical data of 3250 patients with PLC from 10 medical institutions of China were collected, ana- lyzed , and compared with those of 3254 PLC patients be- fore the 30 years. RESULTS: In the 3250 patients aged 1-80 years, with an average age of 49.1 years, the male to female ratio (2.3:1) was lower than that before the 30 years. 73.5% of the 3250 patients sought medical advice within 3 months after the onset of the disease in contrast to 63.8% before the 30 years. Compared with those patients before the 30 years the symptoms and signs were alleviated generally. The HBsAg positive rate was 81.0%, but the HCV-Ab positive rate was 13.2%. The AFP level in 75% of patients was elevated, but in the remaining 25% was normal. 1912 patients (58.8%) were confirmed pathologically. Among them 1755 patients (91.8%) had hepatocellular carcinoma. The overall resec- tion rate was 46.3%. Those who had early, middle, late stage carcinoma accounted for 29.9%, 51.5%, and 18.6%respectively in contrast to 0.4%, 47.0%, and 52.6% repor- ted before the 30 years. The 1-, 3-, 5-year survival rates of the patients were 66.1%, 39.7%, and 32.5% respectively, whereas 93.5%, 70.1%, and 59.1% for the early stage pa- tients, and 65.3%, 30.5%, and 23.5% for the middle stage patients. The half and 1-year survival rates of the late stage patients were 52.5%, and 14.7%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Comparison with the clinical data before and after the 30 years show that PLC can be diagnosed ear- ly. | 17 | Inhibitory effects of emodin, baicalin, schizandrin and berberine on hef A gene: Treatment of Helicobacter pylori-induced multidrug resistance显示文摘AIM: To investigate the inhibitory effects of emodin, baicalin, etc.on the hefA gene of multidrug resistance(MDR) in Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori).METHODS: The double dilution method was used to screen MDR H.pylori strains and determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations(MICs) of emodin, baicalin, schizandrin, berberine, clarithromycin, metronidazole, tetracycline, amoxicillin and levofloxacin against H.pylori strains.After the screened MDR stains were treated with emodin, baicalin, schizandrin or berberine at a 1/2 MIC concentration for 48 h, changes in MICs of amoxicillin, tetracycline, levofloxacin, metronidazole and clarithromycin were determined.MDR strains with reduced MICs of amoxicillin were selected to detect the hefA mR NA expression by realtime quantitative PCR.RESULTS: A total of four MDR H.pylori strains were screened.Treatment with emodin, baicalin, schizandrin and berberine significantly decreased the MICs of amoxicillin and tetracycline against some strains, decreased by 1 to 2 times, but did not significantly change the MICs of clarithromycin, levofloxacin, and metronidazole against MDR strains.In the majority of strains with reduced MICs of amoxicillin, hef A m RNA expression was decreased; one-way ANOVA(SPSS 12.0) used for comparative analysis, P < 0.05.CONCLUSION: Emodin, baicalin, schizandrin and berberine significantly decreased the MICs of amoxicillin and tetracycline against some H.pylori strains, possibly by mechanisms associated with decreasing hefA mR NA expression. | Yan-Qiang Huang Gan-Rong Huang Ming-Hui Wu Hua-Ying Tang Zan-Song Huang Xi-Han Zhou Wen-Qiang Yu Jian-Wei Su Xiao-Qiang Mo Bing-Pu Chen Li-Juan Zhao Xiao-Feng Huang Hong-Yu Wei Lian-Deng Wei | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,14: | 20 |
| 18 | Characteristics and triggering mechanism of Xinmo landslide on 24 June 2017 in Sichuan, China显示文摘At 5: 39 AM on 24 June 2017, a huge landslide-debris avalanche occurred on Fugui Mountain at Xinmo village, Diexi town, Maoxian county, Sichuan province, China. The debris blocked the Songpinggou River for about 2 km, resulting in a heavy loss of both human lives and properties(10 deaths, 3 injuries, 73 missing, and 103 houses completely destroyed). The objectives of this paper are to understand the overall process and triggering factors of this landslide and to explore the affecting factors for its long term evolution before failure. Post event surveys were carried out the day after the landslide occurrence. Information was gathered from literature and on-site investigation and measurement. Topography, landforms, lithology, geological setting, earthquake history, meteorological and hydrological data of the area were analysed. Aerial photographs and other remote sensing information were used for evaluation and discussion. Eye witnesses also provided a lot of helpful information for us to understand the process of initiation, development and deposition. The depositional characteristics of the moving material as well as the traces of the movement,the structural features of the main scarp and the seismic waves induced by the slide are presented and discussed in detail in this paper. The results show that the mechanism of the landslide is a sudden rupture of the main block caused by the instability of a secondary block at a higher position. After the initiation, the failed rock mass at higher position overloaded the main block at the lower elevation and collapsed in tandem. Fragmentation of the rock mass occurred later, thus forming a debris avalanche with high mobility. | 20 | Comparison of Undernutrition Prevalence of Children under 5 Years in China between 2002 and 2013显示文摘Objective To describe the undernutrition status of children under 5-year in China, and study the trend between 2002 and 2013. Methods The study was based on two national surveys. Undernutrition was determined against WHO's 2006 growth standards. The prevalence in 2013 and 2002 was weighted by China sixth National Population Census(2010). The relationship between undernutrition and gender/age groups/different areas use weighted logistic regression. Results The results indicated the overall prevalence of stunting, underweight, and wasting of Chinese children under 5-year was 8.1%, 2.4%, and 1.9% in 2013, respectively. The prevalence of stunting was higher for children aged 12-47 month, while underweight was higher for children aged 48-59 month. The prevalence of undernutrition was higher in rural areas than in urban areas, especially in poor rural areas. There was a decline of stunting, underweight, and wasting between 2002 and 2013 among the children, with greater reduction in rural areas than in urban areas. Conclusion The prevalence of undernutrition of children under 5-year remains high in rural areas especially in poor rural areas in China.
