| 1 | Hypoxic preconditioning stimulates angiogenesis in ischemic penumbra after acute cerebral infarction显示文摘Previous studies have demonstrated the protective effect of hypoxic preconditioning on acute cerebral infarction,but the mechanisms underlying this protection remain unclear.To investigate the protective mechanisms of hypoxic preconditioning in relation to its effects on angiogenesis,we induced a photochemical model of cerebral infarction in an inbred line of mice(BALB/c).Mice were then exposed to hypoxic preconditioning 30 minutes prior to model establishment.Results showed significantly increased vascular endothelial growth factor and CD31 expression in the ischemic penumbra at 24 and 72 hours post infarction,mainly in neurons and vascular endothelial cells.Hypoxic preconditioning increased vascular endothelial growth factor and CD31 expression in the ischemic penumbra and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor was positively related to that of CD31.Moreover,hypoxic preconditioning reduced the infarct volume and improved neurological function in mice.These findings indicate that the protective role of hypoxic preconditioning in acute cerebral infarction may possibly be due to an increase in expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and CD31 in the ischemic penumbra,which promoted angiogenesis. | Sijie Li Yanbo Zhang Guo Shao Mingfeng Yang Jingzhong Niu Guowei Lv Xunming Ji | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,31: | 31 |

| 5 | Agricultural remote sensing big data:Management and applications显示文摘Big data with its vast volume and complexity is increasingly concerned, developed and used for all professions and trades. Remote sensing, as one of the sources for big data, is generating earth-observation data and analysis results daily from the platforms of satellites, manned/unmanned aircrafts, and ground-based structures. Agricultural remote sensing is one of the backbone technologies for precision agriculture, which considers within-field variability for site-specific management instead of uniform management as in traditional agriculture. The key of agricultural remote sensing is, with global positioning data and geographic information, to produce spatially-varied data for subsequent precision agricultural operations. Agricultural remote sensing data, as general remote sensing data, have all characteristics of big data. The acquisition, processing, storage, analysis and visualization of agricultural remote sensing big data are critical to the success of precision agriculture. This paper overviews available remote sensing data resources, recent development of technologies for remote sensing big data management, and remote sensing data processing and management for precision agriculture. A five-layer-fifteenlevel(FLFL) satellite remote sensing data management structure is described and adapted to create a more appropriate four-layer-twelve-level(FLTL) remote sensing data management structure for management and applications of agricultural remote sensing big data for precision agriculture where the sensors are typically on high-resolution satellites, manned aircrafts, unmanned aerial vehicles and ground-based structures. | 7 | Characterization of spray deposition and drift from a low drift nozzle for aerial application at different application altitudes显示文摘A complex interaction of controllable and uncontrollable factors is involved in aerial application of crop production and protection materials.Although it is difficult to completely characterize spray deposition and drift,these important factors can be estimated with appropriate sampling protocol and analysis.Application height is an important variable influencing off-target spray drift,but this variable has not been easily measured or logged.A custom-configured aircraft-mounted laser with logging capabilities makes this possible.This study was designed to investigate droplet size and deposition characteristics of a low drift CP flat-fan nozzle at application altitudes 3.7 m,4.9 m,and 6.1 m.In the study,CP flat-fan nozzles were set to a downward angle of 30 degrees applying a mixture of water,Syl-Tac®adjuvant,and Rubidium Chloride(RbCl)tracer at a 28.5 L/ha application rate.Spray droplets were collected using water sensitive paper(WSP)cards placed in the spray swath.Mylar sheets were also placed in the swath and downwind for drift sampling.Statistical analysis indicated that median droplet diameter as determined by WSP in the spray swath was not significantly influenced by spray application height.Similarly,statistical analysis also indicated that concentration of RbCl tracer from Mylar samplers in the spray swath was not significantly influenced by application height.Application height had a significant effect on spray deposition from drift samplers,along with wind direction and relative humidity.Final results for drift samplers may have been influenced by shifts in wind direction that altered the relationship between orientation of samplers and wind. | Yanbo Huang Steven J.Thomson | 2011 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2011,4,4: | 16 |
| 8 | ZmMs30 Encoding a Novel GDSL Lipase Is Essential for Male Fertility and Valuable for Hybrid Breeding in Maize显示文摘Genic male sterility (GMS) is very useful for hybrid vigor utilization and hybrid seed production. Although a large number of GMS genes have been identified in plants, little is known about the roles of GDSL lipase members in anther and pollen development. Here, we report a maize GMS gene, ZmMs30, which encodes a novel type of GDSL lipase with diverged catalytic residues. Enzyme kinetics and activity assays show that ZmMs30 has lipase activity and prefers to substrates with a short carbon chain. ZmMs30 is specifically expressed in maize anthers during stages 7-9. Loss of ZmMs30 function resulted in defective anther cuticle, irregular foot layer of pollen exine, and complete male sterility. Cytological and lipidomics analyses demonstrate that ZmMs30 is crucial for the aliphatic metabolic pathway required for pollen exine formation and anther cuticle development. Furthermore, we found that male sterility caused by loss of ZmMs30 function was stable in various inbred lines with different genetic background, and that it didn't show any negative effect on maize heterosis and production, suggesting that ZmMs30 is valuable for crossbreeding and hybrid seed production. We then developed a new multi-control sterility system using ZmMs30 and its mutant line, and demonstrated it is feasible for generating desirable GMS lines and valu. able for hybrid maize seed production. With the help of the weak atomic decompositions of martingale, a sufficient condition for a sublinear operator defined on the weak martingale Hardy spaces to be bounded is given. | 10 | Effects of silica nanoparticles on growth and photosynthetic pigment contents of Scenedesmus obliquus显示文摘To assess the aquatic ecosystem safety for silica (SiO2) nanoparticles (NPs), the growth inhibition and photosynthetic pigment contents of Scenedesmus obliquus in logarithm growth phase exposed to SiO2 NPs and SiO2 bulk particles (BPs) suspensions were measured. SiO2 NPs with 10-20 nm diameters were found to be toxic. The 20% effective concentration (EC20) values for 72 and 96 hr were 388.1 and 216.5 mg/L, respectively. The contents of chlorophyll decreased significantly under moderate and high concentration (50, 100, and 200 mg/L) of SiO2 NPs after 96-hr exposure, but the carotenoids did not. SiO2 BPs were found to be nontoxic up to 200 mg/L. The toxicity of SiO2 NPs probablely due to their sorption to algal cells surface. | 18 | Assessment of the sources and transformations of nitrogen in a plain river network region using a stable isotope approach显示文摘The great spatial and temporal variability in hydrological conditions and nitrogen(N)processing introduces large uncertainties to the identification of N sources and quantifying N cycles in plain river network regions. By combining isotopic data with chemical and hydrologic measurements, we determined the relative importance of N sources and biogeochemical N processes in the Taige River in the East Plain Region of China. The river was polluted more seriously by anthropogenic inputs in winter than in summer. Manure and urban sewage effluent were the main nitrate(NO-3) sources, with the nitrification of N-containing organic materials serving as another important source of NO-3. In the downstream, with minor variations in hydrological conditions, nitrification played a more important role than assimilation for the decreasing ammonium(NH+4-N) concentrations.The N isotopic enrichment factors(ε) during NH+4utilization ranged from- 13.88‰ in March to- 29.00‰ in July. The ratio of the increase in δ18O and δ15N of river NO-3in the downstream was 1.04 in January and 0.92 in March. This ratio indicated that NO-3assimilation by phytoplankton was responsible for the increasing δ15N and δ18O values of NO-3in winter. | 19 | Integrated modeling environment and a preliminary application on the Heihe River Basin, China显示文摘Environmental and water issues are essentially complex interdisciplinary problems. Multiple models from different disciplines are usually integrated to solve those problems. Integrated modeling environment is an effective technical approach to model integration. Although a number of modeling environments worldwide are available, they cannot meet current challenges faced. Their old-fashion designs and original development purposes constrain their possible applications to the domain of hydrologic or land surface modeling. One of the challenges is that we intend to link knowledge database or ontology system to the modeling environment in order to make the modeling support more intelligent and powerful. In this paper, we designed and implemented an integrated modeling environment (HIME) for hydrological and land surface modeling purpose in a much extendable, efficient and easy use manner. With such design, a physical process was implemented as a module, or component. A new model can be generated in an intuitive way by linking module icons together and establishing their relationships. Following an introduction to the overall architecture, the designs for module linkage and data transfer between modules are described in details. Using XML based meta-information, modules in either source codes or binary form can be utilized by the environment. As a demonstration, with the help of HIME, we replaced the evaporation module of TOPMODEL with the evapotranspiration module from the Noah land surface model which explicitly accounts for vegetation transpiration. | 20 | A strategic flight conflict avoidance approach based on a memetic algorithm显示文摘Conflict avoidance(CA) plays a crucial role in guaranteeing the airspace safety. The current approaches,mostly focusing on a short-term situation which eliminates conflicts via local adjustment,cannot provide a global solution. Recently,long-term conflict avoidance approaches,which are proposed to provide solutions via strategically planning traffic flow from a global view,have attracted more attentions. With consideration of the situation in China,there are thousands of flights per day and the air route network is large and complex,which makes the long-term problem to be a large-scale combinatorial optimization problem with complex constraints. To minimize the risk of premature convergence being faced by current approaches and obtain higher quality solutions,in this work,we present an effective strategic framework based on a memetic algorithm(MA),which can markedly improve search capability via a combination of population-based global search and local improvements made by individuals. In addition,a specially designed local search operator and an adaptive local search frequency strategy are proposed to improve the solution quality. Furthermore,a fast genetic algorithm(GA) is presented as the global optimization method.
