1Merging cobalt catalysis and electrochemistry in organic synthesis显示文摘There is an increasing demand of using the low-cost and sustainable cobalt to replace its noble congeners(rhodium and iridium)as reflected by the recent upsurge of cobalt catalysis in the diverse organic transformations.Since all the redox reactivity of cobalt catalysis highly relies on the capability of the interconversion between their oxidation states(most frequently+1,+2 and+3),electrochemistry perfectly meets such a require ment owing to its outstanding perfo rmance in the redox manipulation. In this review,we highlight the recent advances in the merger of cobalt catalysis and electrochemistry in organic synthesis.Junsong Zhong Yi Yu Dongliang Zhang Keyin Ye 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,3:1
2Alternating current electrolysis:A photoredox catalysis mimic and beyond显示文摘Alternating current electrolysis(ACE)is an emerging powerful synthetic tool, which principally resembles photoredox catalysis strategies. Its periodically alternating polarity feature allows oxidation and reduction processes to take place on the same electrode surface in a well-controlled manner via the fine-tuning of current frequency along with other reaction parameters. Therefore, many challenging transformations in typical direct electrolysis, including constant current electrolysis or constant potential electrolysis, could be achieved via ACE.The recent advances in the organic synthesis using this emerging technology and its advantages over direct electrolysis are highlighted.Junsong Zhong Chenglin Ding Hyunwoo Kim Terry McCallum Keyin Ye 2022Green Synthesis and Catalysis2022,3,1:0
3Electrochemistry enabled selective vicinal fluorosulfenylation and fluorosulfoxidation of alkenes显示文摘Both sulfur and fluorine play important roles in organic synthesis, the life science, and materials science. The direct incorporation of these elements into organic scaffolds with precise control of the oxidation states of sulfur moieties is of great significance. Herein, we report the highly selective electrochemical vicinal fluorosulfenylation and fluorosulfoxidation reactions of alkenes, which were enabled by the unique ability of electrochemistry to dial in the potentials on demand. Preliminary mechanistic investigations revealed that the fluorosulfenylation reaction proceeded through a radical-polar crossover mechanism involving a key episulfonium ion intermediate. Subsequent electrochemical oxidation of fluorosulfides to fluorosulfoxides were readily achieved under a higher applied potential with the adventitious H;O in the reaction mixture.Yi Yu Yimin Jiang Shaofen Wu Zhaojiang Shi Jinnan Wu Yaofeng Yuan Keyin Ye 2022Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,4:0
4Highly Site-selective Electrooxidation Providing Facile Entries to Functionalized Aromatic Acetals显示文摘Given the fact that aldehydes are among the most fundamental and versatile building blocks in organic syn thesis, the development of highly efficient and selective methods for their preparation, especially for those delicatelk functionalized ones remains sigmificant challenging. To address such an issue,Xu and co-workers have recently reported an elegant electrochemical approach realizing the highly regioselective oxidation of functionalized methyl aromatic hydrocarbons towards the desired aromatic acetals without the use of any chemical oxidants or transition metal catalysts These acetals can be then conveniently converted into corresponding structurally diverse aldehydes via hydrolysis. In addition, the synthetic practicability of current method was further highlighted as the key step in the preparation of the antihypertensive drug telmisartan. This work has been published in the Nature Communications and can be reached at http://gffzz897f1e8bc960460csqouv05vxpbv06o0b.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/10.1038/s41467-020-16519-8.WU Jinnan YU Yi YE Keyin 2020Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2020,36,4:0
