1Experimental study on scale inhibition performance of a green scale inhibitor polyaspartic acid显示文摘Static and dynamic experiments were carried out to validate scale inhibition performance of a green scale inhibitor-polyaspartic acid (PASP). From the static experiment, it was shown that below 60℃, polyaspartic acid is very effective in scale inhibition, with the scale inhibition ratio exceeding 90% with only 3 mg/L PASP for the 600 mg/L hardness solution. For a higher hardness solution of 800 mg/L, the scale inhibition ratio can also reach 90% with 6 and 12 mg/L PASP at 30 and 60℃respectively. The SEM photographs of CaCO3 crystals indicate that the crystal structure transforms from a compact stick-shape to a loose shape so that the scale can be washed away easily instead of being deposited on the heat transfer surface. 4Isolation and application of effective nitrogen fixation rhizobial strains on low-phosphorus acid soils in South China显示文摘Soybean (Glycine max L.) is a very important food and oil crop in China. Legume-rhizobium symbiotic nitrogen (N) fixation is an important biological character and also the base of improving soil fertility of soybean. However, soybean production and development is severely limited in tropical and subtropical areas in China due to a lack of effective rhizobial inoculants adapting to low-phosphorus (P) acid soils. In the present study, 12 soybean rhizobial strains were isolated and purified from the nodules of two soybean genotypes contrasting in P efficiency, which were grown on different low-P acid soils with different soybean cultivation histories. Results from 16S rDNA sequence analysis showed that these 12 rhizobial strains belonged to the genus of Bradyrhizobium, which had higher nitrogenase activities compared to the control strain, Bradyrhizboium japonicum USDA110. A field experiment was carried out by applying rhizobial inoculants, a mixture of three rhizobial strains that showed the highest ni- trogenase activity, on a typical low-P acid soil in South China. The results showed that, without inocu- lation, no nodules were formed in the three soybean genotypes tested; with inoculation, the nodulation rates in all were 100%. Inoculation with rhizobial inoculants not only made many nodules formed, but also increased soybean shoot biomass and yield, and improved nitrogen (N) and P nutrient status. Among which, shoot dry weight, N and P content of a soybean genotype, Huachun 3, inoculated with rhizobium were increased 154.3%, 152.4% and 163.2% compared to that without inoculation, respec- tively. We concluded that: (i) The effective indigenous rhizobial strains isolated in this study from soybeans on low-P acid soils in South China have the characters of broad host range, high nodulation efficiency, efficient N fixation, great low pH and low P tolerance. (ii) Soil environment and host types are the key factors to screen the effective rhizobial strains. Considering soil pH values and P efficiency of the host genotypes might increase the screening efficiency. (iii) Improving N status and facilitating root growth might be the mechanisms of increasing the P uptake in soybean plants inoculated with the ef- fective rhizobial strains on low-P acid soils. (iv) Inoculation with the effective rhizobial inoculants could significantly improve growth, N and P content of soybean on low-P acid soils, which might be an effec- tive approach to enhance soybean cultivation and development in these areas. 13Pancreatic stromal Gremlin 1 expression during pancreatic tumorigenesis显示文摘Chronic pancreatitis(CP)is a major risk factor of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).How CP promotes pancreatic oncogenesis remains unclear.A characteristic feature of PDAC is its prominent desmoplasia in the tumor microenvironment,composed of activated fibroblasts and macrophages.Macrophages can be characterized as M1 or M2,with tumor-inhibiting or-promoting functions,respectively.We reported that Gremlin 1(GREM1),a key pro-fibrogenic factor,is upregulated in the stroma of CP.The current study aimed to investigate the expression of GREM1 and correlation between GREM1 and macrophages within the pancreas during chronic inflammation and the development of PDAC.By mRNA in situ hybridization,we detected GREM1 mRNA expression withinα-smooth muscle actin(SMA)-positive fibroblasts of the pancreatic stroma.These designated FibroblastsGrem1+marginally increased from CP to pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia(PanIN)and PDAC.Within PDAC,FibroblastsGrem1+increased with higher pathological tumor stages and in a majority of PDAC subtypes screened.Additionally,FibroblastsGrem1+positively correlated with total macrophages(MacCD68+)and M2 macrophages(M2CD163+)in PDAC.To begin exploring potential molecular links between FibroblastsGrem1+and macrophages in PDAC,we examined the expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF),an endogenous counteracting molecule of GREM1 and an M1 macrophage promoting factor.By IHC staining of MIF,we found MIF to be expressed by tumor cells,positively correlated with GREM1;by IHC co-staining,we found MIF to be negatively correlated with M2CD163+expression.Our findings suggest that GREM1 expression by activated fibroblasts may promote PDAC development,and GREM1/MIF may play an important role in macrophage phenotype.Joy M.Davis Binglu Cheng Madeline M.Drake Qiang Yu Baibing Yang Jing Li Chunhui Liu Mamoun Younes Xiurong Zhao Jennifer M.Bailey Qiang Shen Tien C.Ko Yanna Cao 2022Genes & Diseases2022,9,1:0
14Integrating pore architectures to evaluate vascularization efficacy in silicate-based bioceramic scaffolds显示文摘Pore architecture in bioceramic scaffolds plays an important role in facilitating vascularization efficiency during bone repair or orbital reconstruction.Many investigations have explored this relationship but lack integrating pore architectural features in a scaffold,hindering optimization of architectural parameters(geometry,size and curvature)to improve vascularization and consequently clinical outcomes.To address this challenge,we have developed an integrating design strategy to fabricate different pore architectures(cube,gyroid and hexagon)with different pore dimensions(-350,500 and 650 lm)in the silicate-based bioceramic scaffolds via digital light processing technique.The sintered scaffolds maintained high-fidelity pore architectures similar to the printing model.The hexagon-and gyroid-pore scaffolds exhibited the highest and lowest compressive strength(from 15 to 55MPa),respectively,but the cube-pore scaffolds showed appreciable elastic modulus.Moreover,the gyroid-pore architecture contributed on a faster ion dissolution and mass decay in vitro.It is interesting that bothμCT and histological analyses indicate vascularization efficiency was challenged even in the 650-μm pore region of hexagon-pore scaffolds within 2weeks in rabbit models,but the gyroid-pore constructs indicated appreciable blood vessel networks even in the 350-μm pore region at 2weeks and high-density blood vessels were uniformly invaded in the 500-and 650-μm pore at 4weeks.Angiogenesis was facilitated in the cube-pore scaffolds in comparison with the hexagon-pore ones within 4weeks.These studies demonstrate that the continuous pore wall curvature feature in gyroid-pore architecture is an important implication for biodegradation,vascular cell migration and vessel ingrowth in porous bioceramic scaffolds.Fanghui Wu Jun Yang Xiurong Ke Shuo Ye Zhaonan Bao Xianyan Yang Cheng Zhong Miaoda Shen Sanzhong Xu Lei Zhang Zhongru Gou Guojing Yang 2022Regenerative Biomaterials2022,9,1:0
