1Deep neural network algorithm for estimating maize biomass based on simulated Sentinel 2A vegetation indices and leaf area index显示文摘Accurate estimation of biomass is necessary for evaluating crop growth and predicting crop yield.Biomass is also a key trait in increasing grain yield by crop breeding.The aims of this study were(i)to identify the best vegetation indices for estimating maize biomass,(ii)to investigate the relationship between biomass and leaf area index(LAI)at several growth stages,and(iii)to evaluate a biomass model using measured vegetation indices or simulated vegetation indices of Sentinel 2A and LAI using a deep neural network(DNN)algorithm.The results showed that biomass was associated with all vegetation indices.The three-band water index(TBWI)was the best vegetation index for estimating biomass and the corresponding R2,RMSE,and RRMSE were 0.76,2.84 t ha−1,and 38.22%respectively.LAI was highly correlated with biomass(R2=0.89,RMSE=2.27 t ha−1,and RRMSE=30.55%).Estimated biomass based on 15 hyperspectral vegetation indices was in a high agreement with measured biomass using the DNN algorithm(R2=0.83,RMSE=1.96 t ha−1,and RRMSE=26.43%).Biomass estimation accuracy was further increased when LAI was combined with the 15 vegetation indices(R2=0.91,RMSE=1.49 t ha−1,and RRMSE=20.05%).Relationships between the hyperspectral vegetation indices and biomass differed from relationships between simulated Sentinel 2A vegetation indices and biomass.Biomass estimation from the hyperspectral vegetation indices was more accurate than that from the simulated Sentinel 2A vegetation indices(R2=0.87,RMSE=1.84 t ha−1,and RRMSE=24.76%).The DNN algorithm was effective in improving the estimation accuracy of biomass.It provides a guideline for estimating biomass of maize using remote sensing technology and the DNN algorithm in this region.Xiuliang Jin Zhenhai Li Haikuan Feng Zhibin Ren Shaokun Li 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,1:9

3High He-ion irradiation resistance of CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy revealed by comparison study with Ni and 304SS显示文摘High entropy alloys(HEAs) have presented potential applications in nuclear power plants owing to their novel atomic structure based high irradiation resistance. However, understanding of He-ion irradiation of HEAs is still lacking. In this work, we reveal He-ion irradiation resistance of HEA CrMnFeCoNi by comparison study with a pure Ni and a 304 stainless steel(304SS). It is found that the damage structure in the three materials can be characterized with He bubbles and stacking faults/stacking fault tetrahedrons((SFs/SFTs), which show a similar depth distribution after He-ion irradiation at both RT and 450℃.Although the He bubbles have a similar size about 2nm after irradiation at RT, the He bubble sizes of the HEA, 304SS, and Ni increase to 4.0±0.9,5.3±1.0 and 6.7 ±1.0 nm after irradiation at 450℃, respectively. Moreover, the density of SFs/SFTs displays in an order of Ni < 304 SS < HEA at both RT and 450℃.The He-ion irradiation at RT causes significant hardness enhancement for the three materials, however,compared to RT, after irradiation at 450℃, the Ni presents softening, while the 304SS, especially the HEA,shows further hardening. 4High-Throughput Measurements of Stem Characteristics to Estimate Ear Density and Above-Ground Biomass显示文摘Total above-ground biomass at harvest and ear density are two important traits that characterize wheat genotypes.Two experiments were carried out in two different sites where several genotypes were grown under contrasted irrigation and nitrogen treatments.A high spatial resolution RGB camera was used to capture the residual stems standing straight after the cutting by the combine machine during harvest.It provided a ground spatial resolution better than 0.2 mm.A Faster Regional Convolutional Neural Network(Faster-RCNN)deep-learning model was first trained to identify the stems cross section.Results showed that the identification provided precision and recall close to 95%.Further,the balance between precision and recall allowed getting accurate estimates of the stem density with a relative RMSE close to 7%and robustness across the two experimental sites.The estimated stem density was also compared with the ear density measured in the field with traditional methods.A very high correlation was found with almost no bias,indicating that the stem density could be a good proxy of the ear density.The heritability/repeatability evaluated over 16 genotypes in one of the two experiments was slightly higher(80%)than that of the ear density(78%).The diameter of each stem was computed from the profile of gray values in the extracts of the stem cross section.Results show that the stem diameters follow a gamma distribution over eachmicroplot with an average diameter close to 2.0mm.Finally,the biovolume computed as the product of the average stem diameter,the stem density,and plant height is closely related to the above-ground biomass at harvest with a relative RMSE of 6%.Possible limitations of the findings and future applications are finally discussed.Xiuliang Jin Simon Madec Dan Dutartre Benoit de Solan Alexis Comar Frédéric Baret 2019Plant Phenomics2019,1,1:5
5Using irrigation intervals to optimize water-use efficiency and maize yield in Xinjiang,northwest China显示文摘Worldwide, scarce water resources and substantial food demands require efficient water use and high yield.This study investigated whether irrigation frequency can be used to adjust soil moisture to increase grain yield and water use efficiency(WUE) of high-yield maize under conditions of mulching and drip irrigation.A field experiment was conducted using three irrigation intervals in 2016: 6, 9, and 12 days(labeled D6, D9, and D12) and five irrigation intervals in 2017: 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 days(D3, D6, D9, D12, and D15).In Xinjiang, an optimal irrigation quota is 540 mm for high-yield maize.The D3, D6, D9, D12, and D15 irrigation intervals gave grain yields of 19.7, 19.1–21.0, 18.8–20.0, 18.2–19.2, and 17.2 Mg ha^-1 and a WUE of 2.48, 2.53–2.80, 2.47–2.63, 2.34–2.45, and 2.08 kg m-3, respectively.Treatment D6 led to the highest soil water storage, but evapotranspiration and soil-water evaporation were lower than other treatments.These results show that irrigation interval D6 can help maintain a favorable soil-moisture environment in the upper-60-cm soil layer, reduce soilwater evaporation and evapotranspiration, and produce the highest yield and WUE.In this arid region and in other regions with similar soil and climate conditions, a similar irrigation interval would thus be beneficial for adjusting soil moisture to increase maize yield and WUE under conditions of mulching and drip irrigation.Guoqiang Zhang Dongping Shen Bo Ming Ruizhi Xie Xiuliang Jin Chaowei Liu Peng Hou Jun Xue Jianglu Chen Wanxu Zhang Wanmao Liu Keru Wang Shaokun Li 2019The Crop Journal2019,7,3:4

7m6A RNA methylation-mediated HNF3γreduction renders hepatocellular carcinoma dedifferentiation and sorafenib resistance显示文摘Hepatocyte nuclear factor 3γ(HNF3γ)is a hepatocyte nuclear factor,but its role and clinical significance in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)remain unclear.Herein,we report that HNF3γexpression is downregulated in patient HCC and inversely correlated with HCC malignancy and patient survival.Moreover,our data suggested that the HNF3γreduction in HCC could be mediated by METTL14-dependent m6A methylation of HNF3γmRNA.HNF3γexpression was increased during hepatic differentiation and decreased in dedifferentiated HCC cells.Interestingly,HNF3γdelivery promoted differentiation of not only HCC cells but also liver CSCs,which led to suppression of HCC growth.Mechanistic analysis suggested an HNF3γ-centered regulatory network that includes essential liver differentiation-associated transcription factors and functional molecules,which could synergistically facilitate HCC cell differentiation.More importantly,enforced HNF3γexpression sensitized HCC cells to sorafenib-induced growth inhibition and cell apoptosis through transactivation of OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 expression,which are major membrane transporters for sorafenib uptake.Clinical investigation showed that patient-derived HCC xenografts with high HNF3γexpression exhibited a sorafenib response and patients with high HCC HNF3γlevels benefited from sorafenib therapy.Together,these results suggest that HNF3γplays an essential role in HCC differentiation and may serve as a therapeutic target and predictor of sorafenib benefit in patients.Tengfei Zhou Shichao Li Daimin Xiang Junyu Liu Wen Sun Xiuliang Cui Beifang Ning Xiao Li Zhuo Cheng Weiqi Jiang Cheng Zhang Xijun Liang Liang Li Xin Cheng Liu Hui Hongyang Wang Jin Ding 2020Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1:4
8Conversion of hepatoma cells to hepatocyte-like cells by defined hepatocyte nuclear factors显示文摘Normal cells become cancer cells after a malignant transformation,but whether cancer cells can be reversed to normal status remains elusive.Here,we report that the combination of hepatocyte nuclear factor IA (HNFIA),HNF4A and forkhead box protein A3 (FOXA3)synergistically reprograms hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)cells to hepatocyte-like cells (reprogrammed hepatocytes, rHeps).Our results show that rHeps lose the malignant phenotypes of cancer cells and retrieve hepatocyte-specific characteristics including hepatocyte-like morphology;global expression pattern of genes and specific biomarkers of hepatocytes;and the unique hepatic functions of albumin (ALB)secretion,glycogen synthesis,low-density lipoprotein (LDL)uptake,urea production, cytochrome P450 enzymes induction and drug metabolism.Intratumoral injection of these three factors efficiently shrank patientderived tumor xenografts and reprogrammed HCC cells in vivo.Most importantly,transplantation of rHeps in the liver of fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase-deficient (Fah^-/-)mice led to the reconstruction of hepatic lobules and the restoration of hepatic function.Mechanistically,exogenous expression of HNF1A,HNF4A and FOXA3 in HCC cells initiated the endogenous expression of numerous hepatocyte nuclear factors,which promoted the conversion of HCC cells to hepatocyte-like cells.Collectively,our results indicate the successful conversion of hepatoma cells to hepatocyte-like cells,not only extending our current knowledge of cell reprogramming but also providing a route towards a novel therapeutic strategy for cancer.Zhuo Cheng Zhiying He Yongchao Cai Cheng Zhang Gongbo Fu Hengyu Li Wen Sun Changcheng Liu Xiuliang Cui Beifang Ning Daimin Xiang Tengfei Zhou Xiaofeng Li Weifen Xie Hongyang Wang Jin Ding 2019Cell Research2019,29,2:3
9Genetic analysis of selected Sargassum fusiforme (Harvey) Setchell (Sargassaceae, Phaeophyta) strains with RAPD and ISSR markers显示文摘Since the 1980s,Sargassum fusiforme has been cultivated in Zhejiang,South China,and nowadays it becomes one of the important commercial seaweeds in China.With traditions of eating habits in the East Asian countries,this brown alga is used as food,because it contained functional oligo/polysaccharides and chemical components,and was regarded playing roles in antioxidant activities and regulating immunology.Through over 15 years’selection,breeding and cultivation,we obtained three strains with good traits and testified their characters during the production,which included the cultivars with high yield and other two good characters,either all the selected strains were applied in the Sargassum production.To avoid confusion during the selection and nursery,it was preferred to establish one fingerprint for distinguishing the Sargassum cultivars from different strains.Random amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD)and inter-simple sequence repeat(ISSR)methods were adopted to analyze the genetic diversities of the selected S.fusiforme strains.With that,one fingerprint with RAPD markers was constructed,and one sequence characterized amplifi ed region(SCAR)marker to S.fusiforme was obtained.It is indicated that the applied fingerprint could be valid in S.fusiforme genetic and germplasm justification,and will be positive to molecular marker assistance in its selection and cultivation.YAO Jianting SHUAI Li LI Shengyao XU Caolu WANG Xiuliang 2019Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2019,37,3:3
10Faceted Kurdjumov-Sachs interface-induced slip continuity in the eutectic high-entropy alloy,AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1)显示文摘Recently,the eutectic high-entropy alloy(EHEA),AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1),can reach a good balance of strength and ductility.The dual-phase alloy exhibits a eutectic lamellar microstructure with large numbers of interfaces.However,the role of the interfaces in plastic deformation have not been revealed deeply.In the present work,the orientation relationship(OR)of the interfaces has been clarified as the Kurdjumov-Sachs(KS)interfaces presenting〈111〉_(B2) 〈110〉_(FCC)and {110} _(B2){111}_(FCC) independent of their morphologies.There exist three kinds of interfaces in the EHEA,namely,The dominating interface and the secondary interface are both non-slip planes and atomistic-scale faceted,facilitating the nucleation and slip transmission of the dislocations.The formation mechanism of the preferred interfaces is revealed using the atomistic geometrical analysis according to the criteria of the low interfacial energy based on the coincidence-site lattice(CSL)theory.In particular,the ductility of the dual-phase alloy originates from the KS interface-induced slip continuity across interfaces,which provides a high slip-transfer geometric factor.Moreover,the strengthening effect can be attributed to the interface resistance for the dislocation transmission due to the mismatches of the moduli and lattice parameters at the interfaces.Ting Xiong Wenfan Yang Shijian Zheng Zhaorui Liu Yiping Lu Ruifeng Zhang Yangtao Zhou Xiaohong Shao Bo Zhang Jun Wang Fuxing Yin Peter K.Liaw Xiuliang Ma 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,6:2
11Comprehensive analysis of miRNA-gene regulatory network with clinical significance in human cancers显示文摘microRNAs(miRNAs),particularly the exosomal miRNAs have been widely used as biomarkers and promising therapeutic targets in cancer.However,a comprehensive analysis of miRNA-gene regulatory network with clinical significance remains scarce.The emergence of high-throughput multi-omics data over large,well-characterized patient cohorts provides an unprecedented opportunity to address this problem.Herein,we performed a clinic-centered analysis to identify cancer-associated miRNAs,miRNA-target axis.We first calculated the correlation among miRNA,mRNA and 75 unique clinico-pathological characteristics(CPCs)in 26 cancer types,and established an online resource(4CR).Interestingly,we found that the high expression of several DNA methylation-related enzymes was associated with adverse outcomes of cancer patients,and these genes were regulated by a cluster of miRNAs.Furthermore,by integrating exosomal miRNA and m RNA databases,we identified exosomal miRNA biomarkers for non-invasive cancer surveillance and therapy monitoring.Finally,we explored the role of CPC-related miRNAs for therapeutic effect prediction of drugs based on their shared targets.Our analysis pipeline illustrated the significance of clinic-centered analysis in miRNA-gene pair identification and provided helpful clues for future cancer studies.Xiuliang Cui Yang Liu Wen Sun Jin Ding Xiaochen Bo Hongyang Wang 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,8:2
12Phosphate limitation increases coenzyme Q10 production in industrial Rhodobacter sphaeroides HY01显示文摘Coenzyme Q10(CoQ10)is an important component of the respiratory chain in humans and some bacteria.As a high-value-added nutraceutical antioxidant,CoQ10 has excellent capacity to prevent cardiovascular disease.The content of CoQ10 in the industrial Rhodobacter sphaeroides HY01 is hundreds of folds higher than normal physiological levels.In this study,we found that overexpression or optimization of the synthetic pathway failed CoQ10 overproduction in the HY01 strain.Moreover,under phosphate-limited conditions(decreased phosphate or in the absence of inorganic phosphate addition),CoQ10 production increased significantly by 12%to220 mg/L,biomass decreased by 12%,and the CoQ10 productivity of unit cells increased by 27%.In subsequent fed-batch fermentation,CoQ10 production reached 272 mg/L in the shake-flask fermentation and 1.95 g/L in a 100-L bioreactor under phosphate limitation.Furthermore,to understand the mechanism associated with CoQ10 overproduction under phosphate-limited conditions,the comparatve transcriptome analysis was performed.These results indicated that phosphate limitation combined with glucose fed-batch fermentation represented an effective strategy for CoQ10 production in the HY01.Phosphate limitation induced a pleiotropic effect on cell metabolism,and that improved CoQ10 biosynthesis efficiency was possibly related to the disturbance of energy metabolism and redox potential.Lu Zhang Leshi Liu Ke-Feng Wang Lan Xu Liming Zhou Weishan Wang Chuan Li Zheng Xu Tong Shi Haihong Chen Yuanhang Li Hui Xu XiuLiang Yang Zhichun Zhu Biqin Chen Dan Li Guanghuang Zhan Si-Liang Zhang Li-Xin Zhang Gao-Yi Tan 2019Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2019,4,4:2
13Quantum key distribution in 50-km optic fibers显示文摘In this paper, we report our recent experiment of long-distance fiber-optic plug and play quantum cryptography system wherein a Faraday-Mirror was used to compensate for the polarization mode dispersion and phase drifts. The pulse-biased coincident gate single-photon detection technique was used to effectively reduce the noises from the detrimental Rayleigh backscattering. We have achieved a quantum key distribution system with the working distance of 50 km, which was tested to be stable in more than 6 hours continuous work. 14Chemical synthesis of Ub-AMC via ligation of peptide hydrazides显示文摘The C-terminal conjugate of ubiquitin with 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (Ub-AMC) is an important probe for fluorescencebased analysis of deubiquitinating enzyme (DUB) activity. It is important to develop more efficient methods for the preparation of Ub-AMC because the currently available technology is still expensive for scaled-up production. In the present work we report an efficient strategy for total chemical synthesis of Ub-AMC through ligation of peptide hydrazides. Three peptide segments are assembled via N-to-C sequential ligation and the resulting product is converted to Ub-AMC via TCEP-mediated desulfurization. 15The GATA transcription factor TaGATA1 recruits demethylase TaELF6-A1 and enhances seed dormancy in wheat by directly regulating TaABI5显示文摘Seed dormancy is an important agronomic trait in crops, and plants with low dormancy are prone to preharvest sprouting(PHS) under high-temperature and humid conditions. In this study,we report that the GATA transcription factor TaGATA1 is a positive regulator of seed dormancy by regulating TaABI5 expression in wheat.Our results demonstrate that TaGATA1 overexpression significantly enhances seed dormancy and increases resistance to PHS in wheat. Gene expression patterns, abscisic acid(ABA) response assay, and transcriptome analysis all indicate that TaGATA1 functions through the ABA signaling pathway. The transcript abundance of TaABI5, an essential regulator in the ABA signaling pathway,is significantly elevated in plants overexpressing TaGATA1. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay(ChIP) and transient expression analysis showed that TaGATA1 binds to the GATA motifs at the promoter of TaABI5 and induces its expression.We also demonstrate that TaGATA1 physically interacts with the putative demethylase TaELF6-A1, the wheat orthologue of Arabidopsis ELF6.ChIP–qPCR analysis showed that H3K27me3 levels significantly decline at the TaABI5 promoter in the TaGATA1-overexpression wheat line and that transient expression of TaELF6-A1 reduces methylation levels at the TaABI5 promoter, increasing TaABI5 expression. These findings reveal a new transcription module, including TaGATA1–TaELF6-A1–TaABI5, which contributes to seed dormancy through the ABA signaling pathway and epigenetic reprogramming at the target site. 16Status of genetic studies and breeding of Saccharina japonica in China显示文摘Saccharina japonica is one of the most important economic brown seaweeds.It is intensively cultivated on large scales in a number of Asian countries.The current annual,global production is about 8 million tons valued as about 4 million US dollars.Considerable efforts have been made to S.japonica in China since the 1950s on its cultivation.To further advance the cultivation of this species,detailed research of genetics and breeding studies are required.Recently,with the advancement of sequencing techniques,the genomics and comparative transcriptomics data were yielded,and quantitative trait locus(QTL)mapping has been conducted,along with genetic linkage maps constructed to this species.New strains have been bred and selected,with better characteristics,e.g.higher seawater temperature resistances and higher yields.In this review,we present the current status of genetic and breeding studies that have been performed to S.japonica in China,and provide guidelines for future developments in the areas of genetic selection and breeding for this species.WANG Xiuliang YAO Jianting ZHANG Jie DUAN Delin 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,4:1
17Critical condition study of borehole stability during air drilling显示文摘The purpose of this paper is to establish the existence of the critical condition of borehole stability during air drilling. Rock Failure Process Analysis Code 2D was used to set up a damage model of the borehole excavated in strain-softening rock. Damage evolution around the borehole was studied by tracking acoustic emission. The study indicates that excavation damaged zone (EDZ) is formed around borehole because of stress concentration after the borehole is excavated. There is a critical condition for borehole stability; the borehole will collapse when the critical damage condition is reached. The critical condition of underground excavation exists not only in elastic and ideal plastic material but in strain- softening material as well.
