1A BRIEF REVIEW AND PROSPECT OF EXPERIMENTAL SOLID MECHANICS IN CHINA显示文摘In this review,a critical look at the research progress of experimental solid mechanics in China for the past years is presented.Issues are discussed of the discovery and development of new fundamental methods and techniques versus performance benchmarking for many of their applications.Included herein are photoelasticity and various forms of modern photomechanics,acoustical techniques,image processing and videometrics,radial and spectrum techniques,and experimental mechanics on micro/nano scale.It is also noticed that both the ever developed instrumentation and specialized synthetical techniques have played important roles in advancing experimental mechanics in scientific researches and industrial applications.Finally,an attempt is made to look into the future of experimental solid mechanics with personal opinions offered on what the future trends will be for the researches in the field.Xide Li Huimin Xie Yilan Kang Xiaoping Wu 2010Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2010,23,6:17
2May-June mean maximum temperature change during 1360-2005 as reconstructed by tree rings of Sabina Tibetica in Zaduo,Qinghai Province显示文摘Based on tree-ring samples collected from Zaduo area in southern Qinghai Province, a 646-year ring-width series was established. Using response function, correlation function and partial correlation analysis we found that the ring-width series is sensitive most to May and June mean maximum air temperature at Zaduo meteorological stations and the correlation is significantly negative. Therefore, May-June mean maximum air temperature in Zaduo area since 1360 is reconstructed using this ring-width series. The regression equation was cross-validated in the calibration period of 1961-2005. The calibration equation can explain 59.8% of the total variance. Since high temperature could reinforce evapotranspiration and result in water stress, the high values are more reliable than the low values in the reconstructed series. By further analyzing upon the reconstructed series, it shows that on the in-ter-annual scale there are 6 periods with higher temperature: 1438-1455, 1572-1612, 1684-1700, 1730-1754, 1812-1829 and 1853-1886; while there are 5 periods with lower temperature: 1547-1571, 1701-1729, 1755-1777, 1830-1852 and 1887-1910. There is no significant rising of temperature in recent 50 years. By comparison with the rings-width series nearby which are also sensitive to the mean maximum air temperature and the mean maximum temperature reconstruction by ring-widths, it is found that the variation of inter-annual scale is fairly common in the region.SHI XingHe QIN NingSheng ZHU HaiFeng SHAO XueMei WANG QingChun ZHU XiDe 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,26:8
3Influencing factors of water resources in the source region of the Yellow River显示文摘Taking the source region of the Yellow River as a study area and based on the data from Madoi Meteorological Station and Huangheyan Hydrological Station covering the period 1955–2005, this paper analyses the changing trends of surface water resources, climate and frozen ground and reveals their causes. Results show that there exist frequent fluctuations from high to low water flow in the 51-year period. In general, the discharge has shown a de- clining trend in the 51 years especially since the 1990s. The annual distribution shows one peak which, year on year is getting smaller. (1) Precipitation has a significant and sustained influence on discharge. (2) A sharp rise of temperature resulted in the increase of evaporation and the decrease of discharge, which has a greater effect than on ice-snow melting. (3) Frozen ground tends to be degraded markedly. There is a significant positive correlation be- tween the permafrost thickness and the discharge. 4Investigation of loading and force sensing properties of a probe-type microforce sensor with force-distance curves显示文摘In this paper,the force-distance curves have been employed to investigate the force sensing properties of the probe-type microforce sensors.In the preliminary studies,two kinds of probe-type microforce sensors have been used to load the objects with dry and wetted surfaces.One is a developed piezoresistive cantilever force sensor with sensitivity of 35 μN/V and the other an atomic force microscope(AFM) cantilever beam probe with sensitivity of 10.4 nN/V.The force outputs corresponding to the regimes of approaching,indenting,and loading are obtained,and the properties of the stability in the approaching regime of the sensors,local mechanical behavior of the tested objects in the indenting regime,and the force sensing of the global samples are analyzed.Experimental results of this analysis are also presented.SUN Chen SU DongChuan LI XiDe 2011Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,6:3

6Tensile properties of individual multicellular Bacillus subtilis fibers显示文摘Microfibers formed by Bacillus subtilis(B. subtilis) have attracted interest because of their potential for use as biodegradable fibers. In this work, an efficient method based on the micro-liquid bridge method(LBM) is proposed to investigate the mechanical properties and the deformation evolution in individual fibers. For the first time, tensile testing of fibers of this type containing several cells is conducted in a scanning electron microscope(SEM) chamber and the in situ deformation evolution of the fibers and the septa is observed. Experimental results show that these fibers are almost broken at the positions of the septa at low humidity, but also show that their fracture morphologies are different. At high humidity, local necking deformation occurs at the septum position. To explore the deformation mechanism of an individual bacterial fiber with a diameter of several hundred nanometers under different humidity conditions, we use the finite element method(FEM) to analyze the tensile deformation behavior of these fibers when their septa are at various separation levels. The numerical results indicate that weak interactions among the septa lead to the dispersion of both the fibrous tensile strength and the modulus.
