Micromorphological Features of Diagnostic Horizons in Several soils in Southwest China: Implication for Soil Taxonomic Classification显示文摘The comparative studies on micromorphological features in diagnostic horizons of Stagnic Anthrosols, Ustic Ferrosols and Ustic Vertosols in southwestern China were conducted to underpin the rationale for Chinese Soil Taxonomy. The following findings were explored: (1) Stagnic Anthrosols had the specific micromorphological features, e.g., the humic formation in anthrostagnic epipedon, the platy structures in plow subhorizon, the secondary formation of ferromanganese and the weakly optical-orientation clay domains in hydragric horizon, etc.: (2) The groundmasses of ferric horizon in Ustic Ferrosols appeared in hue of 2.5YR or redder, and had pellicular grain structure; (3) Ustic Vertosols had a crust horizon (Acr), and crack structure dominated in Acr and angular blocky structure in disturbed horizon; (4) Because of the distinct differences in micromorphological features among these three soils, the specific micromorphological features might be employed as diagnostic horizons to differentiate soils while the quantifiable micromorphological features might potentially be selected as diagnostic indices for Chinese soil taxonomic classification. | XU Xiangming HE Yurong HUANG Chengmin XIONG Donghong | 2010 | Journal of Mountain Science2010,7,1: | 5
Tracking domestic ducks:A novel approach for documenting poultry market chains in the context of avian influenza transmission显示文摘Agro-ecological conditions associated with the spread and persistence of highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI) are not well understood, but the trade of live poultry is suspected to be a major pathway. Although market chains of live bird trade have been studied through indirect means including interviews and questionnaires, direct methods have not been used to identify movements of individual poultry. To bridge the knowledge gap on quantitative movement and transportation of poultry, we introduced a novel approach for applying telemetry to document domestic duck movements from source farms at Poyang Lake, China. We deployed recently developed transmitters that record Global Positioning System(GPS) locations and send them through the Groupe Spécial Mobile(GSM) cellular telephone system. For the first time, we were able to track individually marked ducks from 3 to 396 km from their origin to other farms, distribution facilities, or live bird markets. Our proof of concept test showed that the use of GPS-GSM transmitters may provide direct, quantitative information to document the movement of poultry and reveal their market chains. Our findings provide an initial indication of the complexity of source-market network connectivity and highlight the great potential for futuretelemetry studies in poultry network analyses. | Chang-Yong Choi John Y Takekawa XIONG Yue LIU Ying Martin Wikelski George Heine Diann J Prosser Scott H Newman John Edwards Fusheng Guo Xiangming Xiao | 2016 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2016,15,7: | 3
Threshold and decay properties of transient isolated turbulent band in plane Couette flow显示文摘By direct numerical simulations of the plane Couette flow (PCF) in a large computational domain, it is shown that an isolated turbulent band decays monotonically at low Reynolds numbers but experiences transient growth before the eventual relaminarization at moderate Reynolds numbers. The lower bound Reynolds number of the transient-growth regime is determined as 286. The width, length, and tilt angle of the iso- lated band structure are defined based on the disturbance kinetic energy in the mid-plane, and the geometric characteristics of the band can be described with a tilted rectangle. It is illustrated that before its eventual fragmentation, the isolated turbulent band decays in a style of longitudinal contraction, where the center, width, and tilt angle of the band keep almost constant but the band length contracts with a statistically constant velocity. | Jianzhou LU Jianjun TAO Weitao ZHOU Xiangming XIONG | 2019 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2019,40,10: | 1

Lower bound for transient growth of inclined buoyancy layer显示文摘The relationship between stabilities of the buoyancy boundary layers along an inclined plate and a vertical plate immersed in a stratified medium is studied theoretically and numerically. The eigenvalue problem of energy stability is solved with the method of descending exponentials. The disturbance energy is found to be able to grow to 11.62 times as large as the initial disturbance energy for P r = 0.72 when the Grashof number is between the critical Grashof numbers of the energy stability and the linear stability. We prove that, with a weighted energy method, the basic flow of the vertical buoyancy boundary layer is stable to finite-amplitude streamwise-independent disturbances. | Xiangming XIONG Jianjun TAO | 2017 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2017,38,6: | 1
New Insight on Graphite Anode Degradation Induced by Li-Plating显示文摘Graphite is the dominant anode material for lithium-ion batteries;however,it still suffers from Li-plating when charging fast or at low temperature, and Liplating is associated with performance fading and safety concerns.Herein,we clarify the mechanism of lithium evolution from graphite particles by overlithiation cycle test,in-situ XRD,and titration gas chromatography. We observe that the graphite intercalation compounds(GICs,LiC_(12) and LiC_(6)e.g.)gradually become inactive and wrapped by dead lithium or side reaction sediments, while the rate of this degradation will be accelerated as the overpotential of Liplating is decreased after initial Li metal nucleation. This understanding is contradictory to the popular one that the degradation of graphite anode after Li plating is mainly caused by the inferior SEI and dead Li induced hindering of Li-ion intercalation. The isolation of lithiated graphite particles leading to the fast vanishing of Li insertion/deintercalation process in graphite anodes. We further study the insertion/deintercalation vanishing process at low temperature and high rates, respectively. This work provides a insight on graphite anode degradation induced by Li-plating,and the new understanding can be used to guide the design of advanced materials and electrodes to avoid Li-plating and achieve extreme fast while safe charging. | Yongchuang Xiong Yan Liu Long Chen Songtong Zhang Xiayu Zhu Tengteng Shen Dongsheng Ren Xiangming He Jingyi Qiu Li Wang Qiao Hu Hao Zhang | 2022 | Energy & Environmental Materials2022,5,3: | 0
