Morphological and molecular characterization of fungus isolated from tropical bed bugs in Northern Peninsular Malaysia, Cimex hemipterus(Hemiptera: Cimicidae)显示文摘Objective:To investigate some morphological and molecular characteristics of fungal parasites isolated from wild tropical bed bug, Cimex hemipterus. Methods: A series of culture methods were used to obtain fungal isolates from i eld-collected bed bugs. Characteristics of the isolates such as colony appearance, mycelial texture and pigmentation were studied to explore their morphology. Isolates were also subjected to a PCRbased genotyping test. Results: There were noticeable dif erences in morphological characteristics among the four isolates. Conidial areas of one isolate were dark green, whereas those of the remaining colonies were olive-green, black or dark brown. Conidia of the dark green isolate were globose, while those of olive-green, black and dark brown isolates were globose to subglobose, globose to spherical and globose to subglobose/i nely roughened, respectively. These morphological specii cities and the molecular analyses showed that the fungal internal transcribed spacer ribosomal region and β-tubulin gene sequences of the isolates shared clade with Trichoderma and Aspergillus sequences. Conclusions: Overall, the new discovery of common pathogens in agricultural i eld developed in live bed bugs storage tank may initiate the use of biological agents in later years. | Abdul Hafiz Ab Majid Zulaikha Zahran Abd Hafis Abd Rahim Nor Azliza Ismail Wardah Abdul Rahman Kartiekasari Syahidda Mohammad Zubairi Hamady Dieng Tomomitsu Satho | 2015 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2015,5,9: | 1

Long-term albendazole therapy for diffuse parenchymal neurocysticercosis in an immunocompetent patient:A case report显示文摘Rationale:Neurocysticercosis is a neglected tropical disease caused by the larvae of Taenia solium and may occur in immunocompetent people. We report a case of diffuse parenchymal neurocysticercosis mimicking tuberculous meningitis in an immunocompetent patient.Patient concerns:A 24-year-old immunocompetent woman presented with serial focal to generalized seizure, left body weakness, left abducens palsy, chronic cough, and body weight loss. She came from an area where she was unlikely to have contact with Taenia solium.Diagnosis:Diffuse parenchymal neurocysticercosis.Intervention:Valproic acid, dexamethasone and 15 months of albendazole therapy.Outcome:Complete recovery without any neurological sequelae. | Paulus Sugianto Abdulloh Machin Wardah Rahmatul Islamiyah Cindy Cecilia | 2023 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2023,16,2: | 0
Automated Brain Hemorrhage Classification and Volume Analysis显示文摘Brain hemorrhage is a serious and life-threatening condition. It cancause permanent and lifelong disability even when it is not fatal. The wordhemorrhage denotes leakage of blood within the brain and this leakage ofblood from capillaries causes stroke and adequate supply of oxygen to thebrain is hindered. Modern imaging methods such as computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are employed to get an idearegarding the extent of the damage. An early diagnosis and treatment can savelives and limit the adverse effects of a brain hemorrhage. In this case, a deepneural network (DNN) is an effective choice for the early identification andclassification of brain hemorrhage for the timely recovery and treatment of anaffected person. In this paper, the proposed research work is divided into twonovel approaches, where, one for the classification and the other for volumecalculation of brain hemorrhage. Two different datasets are used for twodifferent techniques classification and volume. A novel algorithm is proposedto calculate the volume of hemorrhage using CT scan images. In the firstapproach, the ‘RSNA’ dataset is used to classify the brain hemorrhage typesusing transfer learning and achieved an accuracy of 93.77%. Furthermore,in the second approach, a novel algorithm has been proposed to calculate thevolume of brain hemorrhage and achieved tremendous results as 1035.91mm3and 9.25 cm3, using the PhysioNet CT scan tomography dataset. | Maryam Wardah Muhammad Mateen Tauqeer Safdar Malik Mohammad Eid Alzahrani Adil Fahad Abdulmohsen Almalawi Rizwan Ali Naqvi | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,4: | 0
Framework for Effective Utilization of Distributed Scrum in Software Projects显示文摘There is an emerging interest in using agile methodologies in Global Software Development(GSD)to get the mutual benefits of both methods.Scrum is currently admired by many development teams as an agile most known meth-odology and considered adequate for collocated teams. At the same time,stake-holders in GSD are dispersed by geographical, temporal, and socio-cultural distances.Due to the controversial nature of Scrum and GSD,many significant challenges arise that might restrict the use of Scrum in GSD.We conducted a Sys-tematic Literature Review(SLR)by following Kitchenham guidelines to identify the challenges that limit the use of Scrum in GSD and to explore the mitigation strategies adopted by practitioners to resolve the challenges. To validate our reviewfindings,we conducted an industrial survey of 305 practitioners. The results of our study are consolidated into a research framework. The framework represents current best practices and recommendations to mitigate the identified distributed scrum challenges and is validated byfive experts of distributed Scrum. Results of the expert review were found supportive, reflecting that the framework will help the stakeholders deliver sustainable products by effectively mitigating the identified challenges. | Basit Shahzad Wardah Naeem Awan Fazal-e-Amin Ahsanullah Abro Muhammad Shoaib Sultan Alyahya | 2023 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,44,1: | 0
Early outcomes of limb salvage surgery with mega-prosthesis:A single center experience显示文摘Objective:To determine the early outcomes of limb salvage surgery with mega prosthesis. Methods:This retrospective study was conducted at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre(SKMCH&RC)from 1st January 2017 till 31st January 2020.Data like demographics, histopathology, functional and survival outcomes were retrieved from the Hospital Information System.Musculoskeletal Tumor Society(MSTS)score was used to evaluate the functional outcomes after the surgery. For survival analyses,Kaplan-Meier curve was applied.Prosthesis joint infection, amputation rate, metastasis, mortality rate, and recurrence were also recorded. Results:This study included 43 patients who underwent limb salvage surgery with endoprosthesis reconstruction at SKMCH&RC.The mean age at the time of diagnosis was(26.5±15.8)years.Patients with distal femoral replacement had the highest MSTS scores(81.45±9.70)while those with proximal humerus replacement has the lowest MSTS scores(56.8±11.2).There was a strong association between site of tumor and MSTS(F=3.30,P=0.017).We also found a correlation between surgical site infection and MSTS scores(r=0.484,P=0.001).Patients with recurrence also had significantly lower MSTS scores(P<0.05).The cumulative survival rate at the end of two-year follow-up was(71.4±17.1)%in proximal femur tumor patients,(88.0±7.8)%in distal femur tumor patients,and(50.0±3.5)%in proximal humerus tumor patients.Besides, patients with Ewing sarcoma had the highest survival rate(97.5±11.0)%while patients with chondrosarcoma had the lowest survival rate(77.8±13.9)%.Conclusions:Limb salvage surgery with mega-prosthesis can be performed with satisfactory functional and survival outcomes, but further studies are needed to compare it with other limb salvage methods. This study can be used as a reference for future studies. | Muhammad Bilal Syed Rizwan-UL-Ahsan Jilani Ilyas Rafi Osama Shakeel Wardah Jabeen | 2021 | Journal of Acute Disease2021,10,5: | 0
Towards Improving Predictive Statistical Learning Model Accuracy by Enhancing Learning Technique显示文摘The accuracy of the statistical learning model depends on the learning technique used which in turn depends on the dataset’s values. In most research studies, the existence of missing values(MVs)is a vital problem. In addition, any dataset with MVs cannot be used for further analysis or with any data driven tool especially when the percentage of MVs are high.In this paper, the authors propose a novel algorithm for dealing with MVs depending on the feature selec-tion(FS)of similarity classifier with fuzzy entropy measure. The proposed algo-rithm imputes MVs in cumulative order. The candidate feature to be manipulated is selected using similarity classifier with Parkash’s fuzzy entropy measure. The predictive model to predict MVs within the candidate feature is the Bayesian Ridge Regression(BRR)technique.Furthermore, any imputed features will be incorporated within the BRR equation to impute the MVs in the next chosen incomplete feature. The proposed algorithm was compared against some practical state-of-the-art imputation methods by conducting an experiment on four medical datasets which were gathered from several databases repository with MVs gener-ated from the three missingness mechanisms. The evaluation metrics of mean abso-lute error(MAE),root mean square error(RMSE)and coefficient of determination(R2 score)were used to measure the performance. The results exhibited that perfor-mance vary depending on the size of the dataset, amount of MVs and the missing-ness mechanism type. Moreover, compared to other methods, the results showed that the proposed method gives better accuracy and less error in most cases. | Ali Algarni Mahmoud Ragab Wardah Alamri Samih MMostafa | 2022 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2022,42,7: | 0
