1Cellulose-based composite scaffolds for bone tissue engineering and localized drug delivery显示文摘Natural bone constitutes a complex and organized structure of organic and inorganic components with limited ability to regenerate and restore injured tissues,especially in large bone defects.To improve the reconstruction of the damaged bones,tissue engineering has been introduced as a promising alternative approach to the conventional therapeutic methods including surgical interventions using allograft and autograft implants.Bioengineered composite scaffolds consisting of multifunctional biomaterials in combination with the cells and bioactive therapeutic agents have great promise for bone repair and regeneration.Cellulose and its derivatives are renewable and biodegradable natural polymers that have shown promising potential in bone tissue engineering applications.Cellulose-based scaffolds possess numerous advantages attributed to their excellent properties of non-toxicity,biocompatibility,biodegradability,availability through renewable resources,and the low cost of preparation and processing.Furthermore,cellulose and its derivatives have been extensively used for delivering growth factors and antibiotics directly to the site of the impaired bone tissue to promote tissue repair.This review focuses on the various classifications of cellulose-based composite scaffolds utilized in localized bone drug delivery systems and bone regeneration,including cellulose-organic composites,cellulose-inorganic composites,cellulose-organic/inorganic composites.We will also highlight the physicochemical,mechanical,and biological properties of the different cellulose-based scaffolds for bone tissue engineering applications.Mahsa Janmohammadi Zahra Nazemi Amin Orash Mahmoud Salehi Amir Seyfoori Johnson V.John Mohammad Sadegh Nourbakhsh Mohsen Akbari 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,2:3

5Liver cancer understaging in liver transplantation in the current era of radiologic imaging and newer generation locoregional therapies显示文摘Background:Discordance in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)staging between pre-transplant imaging and explant pathology is associated with an increased risk of recurrence and death.Our aim was to evaluate variables that predicted concordance/discordance in the era of new generation locoregional therapies(LRT)and improved radiologic technology in diagnosis.Methods:A single-center retrospective study was performed on patients who received a liver transplant for HCC between 2008-2019.Pre-and post-LT variables,including type of LRT,downstaging(DS),transplant time period,and radiologic response to LRT,were analyzed for concordance/discordance.Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to assess post-LT survival.Results:Of 146 patients transplanted within Milan Criteria(MC),discordance rates(understaged)were 45%.Discordance was associated with≥3 HCC lesions at diagnosis but not newer generation LRT(transarterial radioembolization/stereotactic body radiation therapy),traditional LRT or combination.No differences in discordance were seen between transplant periods(2008-2013 vs.2014-2019),but those within MC in the earlier period had higher concordance rates.A trend was observed between DS and discordance.Conclusion:HCC stage discordance remains common and poorly predictable.Discordance was associated with three or more HCC lesions at the time of diagnosis.Patients within MC transplanted between 2008-2013 was associated with concordance,while a trend was noted between DS and discordance.No other pre-or post-LT variables predicted discordance/concordance.Discordance was associated with decreased survival.Hannah M.Lee Donna McClish Binu V.John Sarah Winks Ryan Clayton Somaya Albhaisi Allawy Allawy Samarth Patel Emma C.Fields Scott Matherly Brian Strife Chandra Bhati Amit Sharma Richard K.Sterling 2022Hepatoma Research2022,8,1:0

7Floating production storage and offloading systems' cost and motion performance: A systems thinking application显示文摘Floating production storage and offloading(FPSO) units increasingly represent a practical and economic means for deep-water oil extraction and production. Systems thinking gives a unique opportunity to seek a balance between FPSO technical performance(s),with whole-cost; stakeholder decision-making is charged to align different fit-for-use design specification options' that address technical-motion(s), with respective life-cycle cost analyses(LCCA). Soft system methodology allows situation based analyses over set periods-of-time by diagnosing the problem-at-hand; namely, assessing the antecedents of life-cycle cost relative to FPSO subcomponent design alternatives. Alternative mooringcomponent comparisons for either new-build hulls or refurbished hulls represent an initial necessary consideration to facilitate extraction, production and storage of deepwater oil reserves. Coupled dynamic analysis has been performed to generate FPSO motion in six degrees of freedom using SESAM DeepC, while life-cycle cost analysis(LCAA) studies give net-present-value comparisons reflective of market conditions. A parametric study has been conducted by varying wave heights from 4 – 8 m to understand FPSO motion behavior in the presence of wind and current, as well as comparing the motions of turreted versus spread mooring design alternatives. LCCA data has been generated to compare the cost of such different mooring options/hull conditions over 10 and 25-year periods.
