1On-demand design of spectrally sensitive multiband absorbers using an artificial neural network显示文摘We report an approach assisted by deep learning to design spectrally sensitive multiband absorbers that work in the visible range.We propose a five-layered metal-insulator-metal grating structure composed of aluminum and silicon dioxide,and we design its structural parameters by using an artificial neural network(ANN).For a spectrally sensitive design,spectral information of resonant wavelengths is additionally provided as input as well as the reflection spectrum.The ANN facilitates highly robust design of a grating structure that has an average mean squared error(MSE)of 0.023.The optical properties of the designed structures are validated using electromagnetic simulations and experiments.Analysis of design results for gradually changing target wavelengths of input shows that the trained ANN can learn physical knowledge from data.We also propose a method to reduce the size of the ANN by exploiting observations of the trained ANN for practical applications.Our design method can also be applied to design various nanophotonic structures that are particularly sensitive to resonant wavelengths,such as spectroscopic detection and multi-color applications.Sunae So Younghwan Yang Taejun Lee Junsuk Rho 2021Photonics Research2021,9,4:4
2Nanoimprint lithography for high-throughput fabrication of metasurfaces显示文摘Metasurfaces are composed of periodic subwavelength nanostructures and exhibit optical properties that are not found in nature.They have been widely investigated for optical applications such as holograms,wavefront shaping,and structural color printing,however,electron-beam lithography is not suitable to produce large-area metasurfaces because of the high fabrication cost and low productivity.Although alternative optical technologies,such as holographic lithography and plasmonic lithography,can overcome these drawbacks,such methods are still constrained by the optical diffraction limit.To break through this fundamental problem,mechanical nanopatteming processes have been actively studied in many fields,with nanoimprint lithography(NIL)coming to the forefront.Since NIL replicates the nanopattem of the mold regardless of the diffraction limit,NIL can achieve sufficiently high productivity and patterning resolution,giving rise to an explosive development in the fabrication of metasurfaces.In this review,we focus on various NIL technologies for the manufacturing of metasurfaces.First,we briefly describe conventional NIL and then present various NIL methods for the scalable fabrication of metasurfaces.We also discuss recent applications of NIL in the realization of metasurfaces.Finally,we conclude with an outlook on each method and suggest perspectives for future research on the high-throughput fabrication of active metasurfaces.Dong Kyo OH Taejun LEE Byoungsu KO Trevon BADLOE Jong G.OK Junsuk RHO 2021Frontiers of Optoelectronics2021,14,2:3
3Enhanced intestinal lymphatic absorption of saquinavir through supersaturated self-microemulsifying drug delivery systems显示文摘The therapeutic potential of saquinavir, a specific inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-1 and HIV-2 protease enzymes, has been largely limited because of a low solubility and consequnt low bioavailability. Thus, we aimed to design a supersaturated selfmicroemulsifying drug delivery system(S-SMEDDS) that can maintain a high concentration of saquinavir in gastro-intestinal fluid thorugh inhibiting the drug precipitation to enhance the lymphatic transport of saquinavir and to increase the bioavailability of saquinavir considerably. Solubilizing capacity of different oils, surfactants, and cosurfactants for saquinavir was evaluated to select optimal ingredients for preparation of SMEDDS.Through the construction of pseudo-ternary phase diagram, SMEDDS formulations were established. A polymer as a precipitation inhibitor was selected based on its viscosity and drug precipitation inhibiting capacity. The S-SMEDDS and SMEDDS designed were administered at an equal dose to rats. At predetermined time points, levels of saquinavir in lymph collected from the rats were assessed. SMEDDS prepared presented a proper selfmicroemulsification efficiency and dispersion stability. The S-SMEDDS fabricated using the SMEDDS and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose 2910 as a precipitation inhibitor exhibited a signficantly enhanced solubilizing capacity for saquinavir. The drug concentration in a simulated intestinal fluid evaluated with the S-SMEDDS was also maintained at higher levels for prolonged time than that examined with the SMEDDS. 4Giant chiro-optical responses in multipolar-resonances-based single-layer dielectric metasurfaces显示文摘Chiro-optical effects offer a wide range of potential applications in nanophotonics,such as advanced imaging and molecular sensing and separation.Flat single-layer metasurfaces composed of subwavelength meta-atoms have gained significant attention due to their exceptional characteristics in light–matter interactions.Although metasurface-based devices have manipulated electromagnetic waves,the compact on-chip realization of giant chiro-optical effects remains a challenge at optical frequencies.In this work,we experimentally and numerically demonstrate an all-dielectric metasurface to realize large chiro-optical effects in the visible regime.Notably,the proposed strategy of utilizing achiral nanofins instead of conventional chiral structures provides an extra degree of design freedom.The mutual coupling between carefully engineered nanofins produces constructive and destructive interference,leading to the asymmetric transmission of 70%and average circular dichroism exceeding 60%.We investigate the underlying mechanism behind the chiro-optical effects using the theory of multipolar decomposition.The proposed design mechanism maximizes the chiro-optical response through a single-layer metasurface with potential applications in high-efficiency integrated ultrathin polarization rotators and shapers,chiral polarizers for optical displays,chiral beam splitters,and chiral sensors.HAFIZ SAAD KHALIQ INKI KIM AIMA ZAHID JOOHOON KIM TAEJUN LEE TREVON BADLOE YESEUL KIM MUHAMMAD ZUBAIR KASHIF RIAZ MUHAMMAD QASIM MEHMOOD JUNSUK RHO 2021Photonics Research2021,9,9:1
5Anionic Synthesis of Primary and Secondary Amine-Functionalized Polymers Using Imine Chemistry显示文摘A review of methods for the anionic synthesis of well-defined, amine-functionalized polymers using imines as functionalizing agents is provided. The disparate results in the literature regarding functionalizations with N -(benzylidene)trimethylsilylamine to form primary amine functionalized polymers are discussed; the efficiency of functionalization depends on the molecular weight of the polymeric organolithium(PLi). Efficient functionalizations are observed for PLi with n>10 000 g/mol. The poor functionalization yields using ketimines with enolizable hydrogens is explained. The use of N -trimethylsilyldiphenylcarbimide as a quantitative primary amine functionalizing reagent is described. 6Association between follistatin-related protein 1 and the functional status of patients with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis显示文摘Background:Follistatin-like 1(FSTL1)plays both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory roles in the inflammatory processes.We investigated whether serum FSTL1 could predict the current anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis(AAV)-specific indices.Methods:We randomly selected 74 patients with AAV from a prospective and observational cohort of Korean patients with AAV.Clinical and laboratory data and AAV-specific indices were recorded.FSTL1 concentration was determined using the stored sera.The lowest tertile of the short-form 36-item health survey(SF-36)was defined as the current low SF-36.The cutoffs of serum FSTL1 for the current low SF-36 physical component summary(PCS)and SF-36 mental component summary(MCS)were extrapolated by the receiver operator characteristic curve.Results:The median age was 62.5 years(55.4%were women).Serum FSTL1 was significantly correlated with SF-36 PCS(r=-0.374),SF-36 MCS(r=-0.377),and C-reactive protein(CRP)(r=0.307),but not with Birmingham vasculitis activity score(BVAS).In the multivariable linear regression analyses,BVAS,CRP,and serum FSTL1 were independently associated with the current SF-36 PCS(β=-0.255,β=-0.430,andβ=-0.266,respectively)and the current SF-36 MCS(β=-0.234,β=-0.229,andβ=-0.296,respectively).Patients with serum FSTL1≥779.8 pg/mL and those with serum FSTL1≥841.6 pg/mL exhibited a significantly higher risk of having the current low SF-36 PCS and SF-36 MCS than those without(relative risk 7.583 and 6.200,respectively).Conclusion:Serum FSTL1 could predict the current functional status in AAV patients.Taejun Yoon Sung Soo Ahn Jung Yoon Pyo Jason Jungsik Song Yong-Beom Park Sang-Won Lee 2021Chinese Medical Journal2021,,10:0
