| 7 | Sedentary behavior and physical activity predicting depressive symptoms in adolescents beyond attributes of health-related physical fitness显示文摘Background: Sedentary behavior(SB), physical activity(PA), and attributes of physical fitness have been shown to be related to depressive symptoms in adolescents. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether SB and fitness-producing activity predicted depression in active adolescents over and above gender and fitness attributes.Methods: Participants were 249 adolescents(age: 12.85 § 0.89 years, mean § SD) from 3 public middle schools who wore Actical accelerometers to assess their SB and PA. Participants also completed the FITNESSGRAM health-related fitness assessment and a brief depression questionnaire. A 3-step hierarchical regression analysis was conducted with gender and fitness attributes(i.e., body mass index(BMI), maximal volume oxygen uptake(VO2 max), curlups, and pushups), moderate-and vigorous-intensity activity, and SB entered in respective steps.Results: Regression analysis indicated activity variables(i.e., moderate-and vigorous-intensity activity) significantly predicted depression(DR2= 0.12, p < 0.01) beyond gender and fitness attributes. Overall, gender, fitness attributes, activity variables, SB explained 31% of the variance in depression. Structure coefficients revealed VO2 max(rs= ?0.77), moderate-intensity activity(rs= ?0.67), vigorous-intensity activity(rs= ?0.81), and SB(rs= 0.57) were substantially correlated with the criterion variable; thus, they were the strongest predictors of depression.Conclusion: The findings of the current study indicated SB and PA were both significant predictors of depression; however, sufficient fitnessproducing activity and adequate cardiorespiratory fitness may nullify the negative influence of SB on depressive symptoms in active adolescents. | gene l.farren tao zhang xiangli gu katherine t.thomas | 2018 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2018,7,4: | 1 |

| 9 | The use of animal sensor data for predicting sheep metabolisable energy intake using machine learning显示文摘The use of sensors for monitoring livestock has opened up new possibilities for the management of livestock in extensive grazing systems.The work presented in this paper aimed to develop a model for predicting the metabolisable energy intake(MEI)of sheep by using temperature,pitch angle,roll angle,distance,speed,and grazing time data obtained directly from wearable sensors on the sheep.A Deep Belief Network(DBN)algorithm was used to predict MEI,which to our knowledge,has not been attempted previously.The results demonstrated that the DBN method could predict the MEI for sheep using sensor data alone.The mean square error(MSE)values of 4.46 and 20.65 have been achieved using the DBN model for training and testing datasets,respectively.We also evaluated the influential sensor data variables,i.e.,distance and pitch angle,for predicting the MEI.Our study demonstrates that the application of machine learning techniques directly to on-animal sensor data presents a substantial opportunity to interpret biological interactions in grazing systems directly from sensor data.We expect that further development and refinement of this technology will catalyse a step-change in extensive livestock management,as wearable sensors become widely used by livestock producers. | Hari Suparwito Dean T.Thomas Kok Wai Wong Hong Xie Shri Rai | 2021 | Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,4: | 0 |
| 10 | High pressure luminescence studies of europium doped GaN显示文摘We reported on the high pressure luminescence spectra of polycrystalline Eu-doped GaN material synthesized in the reaction between alloys of gallium, bismuth and europium in ammonia atmosphere. The integrated luminescence intensity of the dominant Eu3+ ion transition (5D0→7F2) at 622 nm increased approximately one order of magnitude whereas its spectral position and line width did not change significantly between ambient and 6.8 GPa pressure, respectively. Moreover, material was characterized with photo-and cathodo-luminescence, and photoluminescence excitation spectra at different temperatures. It was found that the Eu3+ ions occupying substitu- tional Ga site created different centers which could be effectively excited with above band gap excitation and from excitons resonantly pho- toexcited at the I2 bound exciton energy. Furthermore, the less efficient Eu3+ ions excitation path existed through intrinsic impurities and defects generating shallow energy levels in the forbidden gap.
