4Tribological evaluation of refined, bleached and deodorized palm stearin using four-ball tribotester with different normal loads显示文摘The effects of the mechanical factors with applied loads on the tribological performance of refined, bleached and deodorised(RBD) palm stearin(PS) were studied using a four-ball tribotester. All the RBD PS results were simultaneously compared with the additive-free paraffinic mineral oil(PMO).The experiments were carried out using different loads with a constant speed in order to gain a better understanding of the mechanical processes that occurred during the experiment. For each experiment, the temperature was increased to 75 °C and was run for 1 h.In a mechanical system, lubricant plays an important role in reducing wear and friction.PS exists as a semi-solid at room temperature after the fractionation process from oil palm.Due to the increasing rate of pollution to the environment, vegetable oil was chosen as the test lubricant with regard to its biodegradability.Other advantages of vegetable oil are that it is more easily harvestable and non-toxic compared to petroleum-based oil, which made it a suitable candidate. From the experiment,RBD PS is found to have a better friction constraint reduction compared with additive-free PMO.Chiong Ing TIONG Yahya AZLI Mohammed Rafiq ABDUL KADIR Samion SYAHRULLAIL 2012Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A(Applied Physics & Engineering)2012,13,8:0
5Tribological Testing of Hemispherical Titanium Pin Lubricated by Novel Palm Oil:Evaluating Anti-Wear and Anti-Friction Properties显示文摘In this study, the properties of hip implant material and lubricants were examined using a pin on disc apparatus, to compare the effect of metal-on-metal(Mo M)contact with a bio-lubricant derived from palm oil. The behaviour of the lubricants was observed during the experiments, in which a hemispherical pin was loaded against a rotating disc with a groove. A titanium alloy was used to modify the hemispherical pin and disc. Before and after the experiments, the weight and surface roughness were analysed, to detect any degradation. The results were compared according to the different kinematic viscosities. The wear rates and level of friction with each lubricant were also examined. The lubricant with the highest viscosity had the lowest frictional value. Therefore, developing suitable lubricants has the potential to prolong the lifespan of prostheses or implants used in biomedical applications. The experiments collectively show that lubricants derived from palm oil could be used as efficient bio-lubricants in the future.Norzahir Sapawe Syahrullail Samion Mohd Izhan Ibrahim Md Razak Daud Azli Yahya Muhammad Farhan Hanafi 2017Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2017,30,3:0
