2The Effects of Stacking Sequence on Dynamic Mechanical Properties and Thermal Degradation of Kenaf/Jute Hybrid Composites显示文摘This research focused on the dynamic mechanical and thermal properties of woven mat jute/kenaf/jute(J/K/J)and kenaf/jute/kenaf(K/J/K)hybrid composites.Dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA)and Thermo-gravimetric Analysis(TGA)were used to study the effect of layering sequence on the thermal properties of kenaf/jute hybrid composites.The DMA results;it was found that the differences in the stacking sequence between the kenaf/jute composites do not affect their storage modulus,loss modulus and damping factor.From the TGA and DMA results,it has been shown that stacking sequence has given positive effect to the kenaf/jute hybrid composite compared to pure epoxy composite.This is because kenaf and jute fibre has increased the Tg values of the composites,thus affect the thermal degradation.Results showed that the storage modulus for kenaf/jute hybrid composites increased compared with pure epoxy composites with increasing temperature and the values of remained almost the same at glass transition temperature(Tg),the hybrid composite perhaps due to the improved fibre/matrix interface bonding.The preliminary analysis could provide a new direction for the creation of a novel hybrid composite which offers unique properties which cannot be accomplished in a single material system.Tabrej Khan Mohamed Thariq Hameed Sultan Mohammad Jawaid Syafiqah Nur Azrie Safri Ain Umaira Md Shah Mohd Shukry Abdul Majid Nik Noriman Zulkepli Haliza Jaya 2021Journal of Renewable Materials2021,9,1:0
3Sustainability of Renewable Energy Systems with Special Reference to Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Schemes显示文摘It was required to determine relative merits of commonly used renewable energy(RE)systems for which estimation of their individual sustainability percent achievable was chosen as the single criterion assessment tool.The methodology developed for estimating sustainability included identification of individual sustainability indices(SI)and examining the scope of sustainability percent input/kWh power generation for each of SI indices and summing them up estimating total sustainability accrued from respective RE systems.The RE systems studied included photo-voltaic(PV)cells,bio-fuels,on-shore&off-shore wind energy and OTEC schemes.Coal power plant being commercially viable was studied as the referral energy scheme.Nine SI indices identified for study included resource potential,greenhouse gas saving,influence on flora&fauna,effects on human health,land loss aspects,food and potable water security,economy evaluation,and improvement in quality of life from economic growth.Total sustainability achievable showed the highest in OTEC,followed by wind,bio-fuels and PV,respectively.SI index on quality of life showed RE schemes like OTEC&bio-fuels competing equally with coal power plant having poor sustainability with the least power generation cost;whence Hybrid OTEC showed the highest sustainability with high power production cost.Four fold approaches have been suggested for reducing power generation cost of OTEC.(i)Adopting economically viable scheme of not less than 40 MW.(ii)Heating up the working fluid with solar irradiation,terming SOTEC scheme.(iii)Saving cable laying cost,from hydrogen production utilizing the power generated.(iv)Hybridization of OTEC scheme.Subhashish Banerjee Rahayu Binti Tasnim Fikri Zhafran Syafiqah Sathiabama T.Thirugnana Dato Ir.,A Bakar Jaafar 2022Non-Metallic Material Science2022,4,2:0
4Optimized Gated Recurrent Unit for Mid-Term Electricity Price Forecasting显示文摘Electricity price forecasting(EPF)is important for energy system operations and management which include strategic bidding,generation scheduling,optimum storage reserves scheduling and systems analysis.Moreover,accurate EPF is crucial for the purpose of bidding strategies and minimizing the risk for market participants in the competitive electricity market.Nevertheless,accurate time-series prediction of electricity price is very challenging due to complex nonlinearity in the trend of electricity price.This work proposes a mid-term forecasting model based on the demand and price data,renewable and non-renewable energy supplies,the seasonality and peak and off-peak hours of working and nonworking days.An optimized Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU)which incorporates Bagged Regression Tree(BTE)is developed in the Recurrent Neural Network(RNN)architecture for the mid-term EPF.Tanh layer is employed to optimize the hyperparameters of the heterogeneous GRU with the aim to improve the model’s performance,error reduction and predict the spikes.In this work,the proposed framework is assessed using electricity market data of five major economical states in Australia by using electricity market data from August 2020 to May 2021.The results showed significant improvement when adopting the proposed prediction framework compared to previous works in forecasting the electricity price.Rashed Iqbal Hazlie Mokhlis Anis Salwa Mohd Khairuddin Syafiqah Ismail Munir Azam Muhammad 2022Computer Systems Science & Engineering2022,43,11:0
