1Pentoxifylline versus prednisolone for severe alcoholic hepatitis:A randomized controlled trial显示文摘AIM:To compare the efficacy of pentoxifylline and prednisolone in the treatment of severe alcoholic hepatitis,and to evaluate the role of different liver function scores in predicting prognosis.METHODS:Sixty-eight patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis(Maddrey score≥32)received pentoxifylline(n=34,groupⅠ)or prednisolone(n=34,groupⅡ) for 28 d in a randomized double-blind controlled study,and subsequently in an open study(with a tapering dose of prednisolone)for a total of 3 mo,and were followed up over a period of 12 mo.RESULTS:Twelve patients in groupⅡdied at the end of 3 mo in contrast to five patients in groupⅠ.The probability of dying at the end of 3 mo was higher in groupⅡas compared to groupⅠ(35.29%vs 14.71%,P=0.04;log rank test).Six patients in groupⅡ developed hepatorenal syndrome as compared to none in groupⅠ.Pentoxifylline was associated with a significantly lower model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score at the end of 28 d of therapy(15.53±3.63 vs 17.78±4.56,P=0.04).Higher baseline Maddrey score was associated with increased mortality.CONCLUSION:Reduced mortality,improved risk-benefit profile and renoprotective effects of pentoxifylline compared with prednisolone suggest that pentoxifylline is superior to prednisolone for treatment of severe alcoholic hepatitis.Binay Krishna De Subhabrata Gangopadhyay Deep Dutta Sumanta Das Baksi Adyapad Pani Pramit Ghosh 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,13:26
2A review on synthesis of graphene,h-BN and MoS2 for energy storage applications:Recent progress and perspectives显示文摘The significance of graphene and its two-dimensional(2D)analogous inorganic layered materials especially as hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN)and molybdenum disulphide(MoS2)for“clean energy”applications became apparent over the last few years due to their extraordinary properties.In this review article we study the current progress and selected challenges in the syntheses of graphene,h-BN and MoS2 including energy storage applications as supercapacitors and batteries.Various substrates/catalysts(metals/insulator/semiconducting)have been used to obtain graphene,h-BN and MoS2 using different kinds of precursors.The most widespread methods for synthesis of graphene,h-BN and MoS2 layers are chemical vapor deposition(CVD),plasma-enhanced CVD,hydro/solvothermal methods,liquid phase exfoliation,physical methods etc.Current research has shown that graphene,h-BN and MoS2 layered materials modified with metal oxide can have an insightful influence on the performance of energy storage devices as supercapacitors and batteries.This review article also contains the discussion on the opportunities and perspectives of these materials(graphene,h-BN and MoS2)in the energy storage fields.We expect that this witen review article including recent research on energy storage will help in generating new insights for further development and practical applications of graphene,h-BN and MoS2 layers based materials.Rajesh Kumar Sumanta Sahoo Ednan Joanni Rajesh Kumar Singh Ram Manohar Yadav Rajiv Kumar Verma Dinesh Pratap Singh Wai Kian Tan Angel Perez del Pino Stanislav A.Moshkalev Atsunori Matsuda 2019Nano Research2019,12,11:12
3Flow Field Around Rushton Turbine in Stirred Tank by Particle Image Velocimetry Measurement显示文摘In this paper, particle image velocimetry (PIV) was used to measure the mean and root meansquare(RMS) velocity in the stirred tank with six-flat blade Rushton turbine and with no baffles. Two typesof motion patterns were studied. One was that the impeller runs at constant speed, the other was that the impellerruns at time-dependent speed and in a periodic way. The emphasis of the paper was on the comparison of meanand RMS velocity vector maps and profiles between these two types of motion patterns, and especial attention waspaid to the comparison of the mean velocity, time-averaged RMS velocity, phase averaged RMS velocity betweenthe constant 3 RPS (revolution per second) and time-dependent operation. The Reynolds number was between 763and 1527. 6Nitric oxide mediated Staphylococcus aureus pathogenesis and protective role of nanoconjugated vancomycin显示文摘Objective:To investigate the relation between fruit seeds,plants residuals and appendicitis. Methods:Among cases that underwent appendectomy,the appendicitis cases having fruit seeds and undigested plant residuals in their etiology were examined retrospectively.Also, histopathological features,age,sex,and parameters of morbidity and mortality were used. Results:Fruit seed was found in one case(0.05%) with presence of pus in appendix lumen, undigested plant residuals in 7 cases(0.35%).It was determined that there were appendix inflammation in 2 of the plant residuals cases,while there were obstruction and lymphoid hyperplasia in the appendix lumen of 5 cases.No mortality was observed.Conclusions:The ratio of acute appendicitis caused by plants is minimal among all appendectomised patients, but avoidence of eating undigested fruit seeds and chewing plants well may help to prevent appendicitis.Subhankari Prasad Chakraborty Santanu Kar Mahapatra Sumanta Kumar Sahu Sourav Chattopadhyay Panchanan Pramanik Somenath Roy 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,2:4
7Leukemic stromal hematopoietic microenvironment negatively regulates the normal hematopoiesis in mouse model of leukemia显示文摘Background and Objective: Leukemic microenvironment has a major role in the progression of leukemia. Leukemic cells can induce reversible changes in microenvironmental components, especially the stromal function which results in improved growth conditions for maintaining the malignant leukemic cells. This study aimed to investigate the survival advantage of leukemic cells over normal hematopoietic cells in stromal microenvironment in long term. Methods: The mice were injected intraperitoneally with N-N’ ethylnitrosourea (ENU) to induce leukemia; the mice received injection of normal saline were used as control. At 180 days after ENU induction, the mice were killed and the bone marrows were cultured for 19 days. Colony-forming assays were used to analyze the formation of various cell colonies. The expression of Sca-1, CD146, VEGFR2, CD95, pStat3, pStat5, and Bcl-xL in marrow cells were detected by flow cytometry. Results: Long-term leukemic bone marrow culture showed abnormal elongated stromal fibroblasts with almost absence of normal hematopoietic cells. Adherent cell colonies were increased, but CFU-F and other hematopoietic cell colonies were significantly decreased in leukemia group (P< 0.001). Primitive progenitor-specific Sca-1 receptor expression was decreased with subsequent increased expression of CD146 and VEGFR-2 in leukemic bone marrow cells. Decreased Fas antigen expression with increased intracellular pStat3, pStat5 and Bcl-xL proteins were observed in leukemic bone marrow cells. Conclusions: Stromal microenvironment shows altered morphology and decreased maturation in leukemia. Effective progenitor cells are decreased in leukemia with increased leukemia-specific cell population. 8Antioxidative effect of folate-modified chitosan nanoparticles显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the potency of carboxymethyl chitosan-2,2' ethylenedioxy bisethylamine-folate(CMC-EDBE-FA) on tissue injury,antioxidant status and glutathione system in tissue mitochondria and serum against nicotine-induced oxidative stress in mice.Methods: CMC-EDBE-FA was prepared on basis of carboxymethyl chitosan tagged with folic acid by covalently linkage through 2,2' ethylenedioxy bis-ethylamine.Animals were divided into four groups,i.e.,control,nicotine(1 mg/kg bw/day),CMC-EDBE-FA(1 mg/kg bw/day) and nicotine(1 mg/kg bw/day) and CMC-EDBE-FA(1 mg/kg bw/day) for 7 days.Levels of lipid peroxidation, oxidized glutathione level,antioxidant enzyme status and DNA damage were observed and compared.Results:The significantly increase of lipid peroxidation,oxidized glutathione levels and DNA damage was observed in nicotine treated group as compared with control group;those were significantly reduced in CMC-EDBE-FA supplemented group.Moreover,significantly reduced antioxidant status in nicotine treated group was effectively ameliorated by the supplementation of CMC-EDBE-FA.Only CMC-EDBE-FA treated groups showed no significant change as compared with control group;rather than it repairs the tissue damage of nicotine treated group.Conclusions:These findings suggest that CMC-EDBE-FA is non-toxic and ameliorates nicotine-induced toxicity.Subhankari Prasad Chakraborty Santanu Kar Mahapatra Sumanta Kumar Sahu Panchanan Pramanik Somenath Roy 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,1:3

10Influence of dynamic soil-pile raft-structure interaction:an experimental approach显示文摘Traditionally seismic design of structures supported on piled raft foundation is performed by considering fixed base conditions, while the pile head is also considered to be fixed for the design of the pile foundation. Major drawback of this assumption is that it cannot capture soil-foundation-structure interaction due to flexibility of soil or the inertial interaction involving heavy foundation masses. Previous studies on this subject addressed mainly the intricacy in modelling of dynamic soil structure interaction(DSSI) but not the implication of such interaction on the distribution of forces at various elements of the pile foundation and supported structure. A recent numerical study by the authors showed significant change in response at different elements of the piled raft supported structure when DSSI effects are considered. The present study is a limited attempt in this direction, and it examines such observations through shake table tests. The effect of DSSI is examined by comparing dynamic responses from fixed base scaled down model structures and the overall systems. This study indicates the possibility of significant underestimation in design forces for both the column and pile if designed under fixed base assumption. 12Rushton桨搅拌槽内平均流场的二维PIV试验研究显示文摘用粒子图像测速技术(Particle image velocimetry,简称PIV)对带有Rushton桨叶的,无挡板搅拌槽内的流场进行研究。在叶轮转速240 r/min下,流动的雷诺数Re=1 527时,获取了桨叶处以及桨叶转过5个不同角度处的粒子图像。在对粒子图像进行处理和计算后,得到了相平均速度场和系综平均速度场,并给出了速度分布剖面图。结果表明,所研究的Rushton桨搅拌槽内径向喷射流动沿桨叶垂直方向是非对称的,而是向下方倾斜。在桨叶附近,径向流动速度高。随着流动远离桨叶,径向速度在降低。因此径向喷射流动作用就相当于自由射流:叶轮桨叶喷射出的流体进入周围大量低速运动的流体中,卷吸周围流体,并沿轴向和径向扩散,从而使更多的流体参与混合和反应。所作研究对于深入了解搅拌槽内流场结构具有实际意义。高殿荣 王益群 Acharya Sumanta 2004机械工程学报2004,40,12:2

14Control of human filarial vector,Culex quinquefasciatus Say 1823(Diptera:Culicidae)through bioactive fraction of Cayratia trifolia leaf显示文摘Objective:To investigate the mosquito larvicidal activity of Cayratia trifolia(L.)Domin(Vitaceae:Vitales)(C.trifolia)which is distributed in many parts of India with medicinal properties as vector control is facing threat due to the emergence of resistance to synthetic insecticides.Methods:Young and mature leaves of C.trifolia were investigated for larvicidal activity against3rd instars larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus in different seasons throughout the year.The active fractions were extracted using six different solvents in a non-polar to polar fashion viz petroleumether,benzene,chloroform:methanol(1:1 v/v),acetone,absolute alcohol and distilled water.Dose dependent mortality was recorded against each solvent extract.Determination of LD_(50)and LD_(90)were executed through log-probit analysis using the most bioactive fraction.The fluctuations in mortality were statistically co-related through ANOVA analyses concerning different seasons and types of leaves as random variables.Justification of larvicidal activity was established through student's t-test.Costing effects were evaluated on the non-target water fauna under laboratory conditions.Thin layer chromatographic techniques were performed for phytochemical analysis and categorization of chemical personality of the active fractions using the most effective solvent extract following standard methods.Results:Significant variations in mortality rate were noted with respect to the type of leaves(mature and senescence),concentration of leaf extract and between seasons.The water extract among all the solvent extracts was found to induce cent percent mortality at 50 mg/L in test mosquito species within 24 h with a LD_(50)and LD_(90)value of 10.70 mg/L and 27.64 mg/L respectively.No significant mortality was recorded in non-target water population.Chromatographic analyses of the water extract revealed the presence of steroids,triterpene glycosides,essential oil,phenolics and diterpenes as secondary phytochemicals.Conclusions:Water extract of C.trifolia leaf promised as a cost effective and potent larvicidal agent against Culex quinquefasciatus.Sumanta Chakraborty Someshwar Singha Kuntal Bhattacharya Goutam Chandra 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,12:2
