| 1 | Group VB transition metal dichalcogenides for oxygen reduction reaction and strain-enhanced activity governed by p-orbital electrons of chalcogen显示文摘Developi ng alter native oxyge n reducti on reactio n (ORR) catalysts to replace precious Pt-based metals with abundant materials is the key challe nge of commercial application of fuel cells. Owing to their various compositi ons and tun able electronic properties, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have the great potential to realize high-efficiency catalysts for ORR. Here, various 3R-phase dichalcogenides of group VB and VIB transition metals (MX2, M = Nb, Ta, Mo, W;X = S, Se, Te) are investigated for ORR catalysts by using density functional theory calculations. The computed over-potentials of group VB TMDs are much less than those of group VIB TMDs. For group VB TMDs, a volcano-type plot of ORR catalytic activity is established on the adsorption energies of *OH, and NbS2 and TaTe2 exhibit best ORR activity with an oveepotential of 0.54 V. To achieve even better activity, strain engineering is performed to tune ORR catalytic activity, and the minimum over-potential of 0.43 V can be realized. | 2 | Heat rate variability and dyssomnia and their correlations to neurological defects in cerebral infarction patients complicated by insomnia A concurrent non-randomized case-control study显示文摘BACKGROUND: Heart rate variability refers to the beat-to-beat alteration in heart rate. It is usually a slight periodic variation of R-R intervals. Much information of autonomic nerve system balance can be obtained by measuring the heart rate variability of patients. It remains to be shown whether heart rate variability can be used as an index for determining the severity of insomnia and cerebral infarction. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the correlation for each frequency spectrum parameter of heart rate variability with an insomnia index, as well as the degree of neurological defects in patients with simple cerebral infarction and cerebral infarction complicated by insomnia. The goal was to verify the feasibility of frequency spectrum parameters for heart rate variability as a marker for insomnia and cerebral infarction. DESIGN: A case-control observation. SETTING: Department of Neurology, First Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University. PARTICIPANTS: Sixty inpatients, and/or outpatients, with cerebral infarction were admitted to the 202 Hospital of Chinese PLA between December 2005 and October 2006, confirmed by CT, and recruited to the study. According to the insomnia condition (insomnia is defined by a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score > 7), the patients were assigned to a simple cerebral infarction group and a cerebral infarction complicated by insomnia group, with 30 subjects in each group. Thirty additional subjects, who concurrently received ex- aminations and were confirmed to not suffer from cerebral infarction and insomnia, were recruited into the control group. Written informed consent was obtained from each subject for laboratory specimens. The pro- tocol was approved by the Hospital's Ethics Committee. METHODS: Following admission, each subject's neurological impairment was assessed with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Heart rate variability of each subject was measured with an autonomic nerve analyzer (Weijin Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Taiwan). Each frequency spectrum parameter of heart rate variability was obtained, including very low frequency, low fre- quency, high frequency, total power, R-R interval, and its mean square. In addition, percentage of low fre- quency, high frequency, and ratio of low frequency to high frequency were calculated. For each heart rate frequency spectrum parameter, the difference between groups was analyzed. Moreover, correlations of each frequency spectrum parameter with insomnia and disease condition were analyzed. Data from each index, which were not normally distributed, were processed by logarithmic transformation. The t-test was used for the comparison of intergroup differences. Single-factor linear regression analysis and t-test were used for the analysis of factor-factor correlation and coefficient of correlation, respectively. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Differences of scores in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index between the simple cerebral infarction group and the cerebral in- farction complicated by insomnia group. ② Differences of heart rate variability parameters between the simple cerebral infarction group and the control group. ③ Correlation of heart rate variability parameters, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score, and the neurological impairment score. RESULTS: Sixty patients and thirty healthy controls were included in the final analysis. ① The scores of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the neurological impairment were significantly higher in the cerebral infarction complicated by insomnia group compared to the simple cerebral infarction group (P < 0.05-0.01). ② R-R interval was significantly longer in the simple cerebral infarction group than in the control group, while R-R interval variance and high-frequency band were significantly lower in the simple cerebral infarc- tion group compared to the control group (P < 0.05). ③ For cerebral infarction patients with insomnia, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score was significantly positively correlated with neurological impairment (r = 0.54, P < 0.01). The low-frequency band, very low-frequency band, high-frequency band, R-R interval variance, total power, R-R interval, and the percentage of high-frequency were significantly negativelycorrelated with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score (r =-0.45 to -0.90, P < 0.05-0.01) and with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores (r = -0.56 to -0.36, P < 0.05-0.01). | 3 | Gene duplication drove the loss of awn in sorghum.显示文摘Loss of the awn in some cereals including sorghum is a key transition during cereal domestication or improvement that has facilitated grain harvest and storage.The genetic basis for the loss of awn in sorghum during domestication or improvement remains unknown.Here,we identified a transcription factor gene awn1 encoding an ALOG domain,which is responsible for awn loss during sorghum domestication or improvement.awn1 arose from a gene duplication from chromosome 10 that translocated to chromosome 3,recruiting a new promoter from the neighbouring intergenic region filled with'noncoding DNA',and recreating the first exon and intron.The awn1 acquires high expr`ession after duplication and represses the elongation of awns in domesticated sorghum.Comparative mapping revealed a high collinearity at awn1 paralog locus on chromosome 10 across cereals and awn growth and development was successfully reactivated on the rice spikelet by inactivating rice awn1 orthologue.Further RNA-seq and DAP-seq revealed that as a transcription repressor,AWN1 directly bound to the motif in the regulatory regions from three MADS genes related to flower development and two genes DL and LKS2 for the development of awn,downregulated the expressions of these genes,and then repressed the elongation of awn.The preexistence of regulatory elements in the neighbouring intergenic region of awn1 before domestication signified that noncoding DNA may serve as a treasure trove for evolution during adaptation to a changing world.Our results supported that gene duplication can promptly drive the evolution of gene regulatory network. | Leina Zhou Can Zhu Xiaojian Fang Hangqin Liu Shuyang Zhong Yan Li Jiacheng Liu Yang Song Xing Jian Zhongwei Lin | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,11: | 2 |

| 6 | A Pore-Forming Strategy Toward Porous Carbon-Based Substrates for High Performance Flexible Lithium Metal Full Batteries显示文摘Self-standing carbon-based substrates with satisfied structural stability and property adjustability have promising applications in flexible lithium(Li)metal batteries(FLMBs).Current strategies for modifying carbon materials are normally carried out on powder carbon,and very few of them are suitable for self-standing carbon substrates.Herein,a pore-forming strategy based on the redox chemistry of metallic oxide nanodots is developed to prepare two porous carbon substrates for anode and cathode.Starting with cotton cloth,the resulting hollow carbon fibers substrate with nanopores effectively prevents from Li dendrites formation and large volume change in lithium metal anode(LMA).Simulations indicate that the porous structure leads to homogeneous ion flux,Li-ion concentration,and electric field during Li deposition.Li symmetrical cell based on this substrate remains stable for 8300 h with an ultralow voltage hysteresis of 9 mV.Via a similar route,porous carbon cloth substrate is obtained for subsequently seeding V_(2)O_(5)nanowires to prepare the cathode.The assembled FLMBs pouch cell delivers a capacity of 8.2 mAh with a high capacity retention of~100%even under dramatic deformation.The demonstrated strategy has far-reaching potential in preparing free-standing porous carbon-based materials for flexible energy storage devices. | Yanfei Li Shuyang Ye Jian Lin Yihan Song Xinglong Wu Jingping Zhang Changlu Shao Zhongmin Su Haizhu Sun Dwight S.Seferos | 2023 | Energy & Environmental Materials2023,6,3: | 0 |
| 7 | A biomimetic nanoplatform for customized photothermal therapy of HNSCC evaluated on patient-derived xenograft models显示文摘Cancer cell membrane(CCM)derived nanotechnology functionalizes nanoparticles(NPs)to recognize homologous cells,exhibiting translational potential in accurate tumor therapy.However,these nanoplatforms are majorly generated from fixed cell lines and are typically evaluated in cell line-derived subcutaneous-xenografts(CDX),ignoring the tumor heterogeneity and differentiation from inter-and intra-individuals and microenvironments between heterotopic-and orthotopic-tumors,limiting the therapeutic efficiency of such nanoplatforms.Herein,various biomimetic nanoplatforms(CCM-modified gold@Carbon,i.e.,Au@C-CCM)were fabricated by coating CCMs of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC)cell lines and patient-derived cells on the surface of Au@C NP.The generated Au@C-CCMs were evaluated on corresponding CDX,tongue orthotopic xenograft(TOX),immunecompetent primary and distant tumor models,and patient-derived xenograft(PDX)models.The Au@C-CCM generates a photothermal conversion efficiency up to 44.2% for primary HNSCC therapy and induced immunotherapy to inhibit metastasis via photothermal therapy-induced immunogenic cell death.The homologous CCM endowed the nanoplatforms with optimal targeting properties for the highest therapeutic efficiency,far above those with mismatched CCMs,resulting in distinct tumor ablation and tumor growth inhibition in all four models.This work reinforces the feasibility of biomimetic NPs combining modular designed CMs and functional cores for customized treatment of HNSCC,can be further extended to other malignant tumors therapy. | Qi Wu Lan Chen Xiaojuan Huang Jiayi Lin Jiamin Gao Guizhu Yang Yaping Wu Chong Wang Xindan Kang Yanli Yao Yujue Wang Mengzhu Xue Xin Luan Xin Chen Zhiyuan Zhang Shuyang Sun | 2023 | International Journal of Oral Science2023,15,1: | 0 |

| 9 | Fabricating 3-dimensional human brown adipose microtissues for transplantation studies显示文摘Transplanting cell cultured brown adipocytes(BAs)represents a promising approach to prevent and treat obesity(OB)and its associated metabolic disorders,including type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).However,transplanted BAs have a very low survival rate in vivo.The enzymatic dissociation during the harvest of fully differentiated BAs also loses significant cells.There is a critical need for novel methods that can avoid cell death during cell preparation,transplantation,and in vivo.Here,we reported that preparing BAs as injectable microtissues could overcome the problem.We found that 3D culture promoted BA differentiation and UCP-1 expression,and the optimal initial cell aggregate size was 100μm.The microtissues could be produced at large scales via 3D suspension assisted with a PEG hydrogel and could be cryopreserved.Fabricated microtissues could survive in vivo for long term.They alleviated body weight and fat gain and improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in high-fat diet(HFD)-induced OB and T2DM mice.Transplanted microtissues impacted multiple organs,secreted protein factors,and influenced the secretion of endogenous adipokines.To our best knowledge,this is the first report on fabricating human BA microtissues and showing their safety and efficacy in T2DM mice.The proposal of transplanting fabricated BA microtissues,the microtissue fabrication method,and the demonstration of efficacy in T2DM mice are all new.Our results show that engineered 3D human BA microtissues have considerable advantages in product scalability,storage,purity,safety,dosage,survival,and efficacy. | Ou Wang Li Han Haishuang Lin Mingmei Tian Shuyang Zhang Bin Duan Soonkyu Chung Chi Zhang Xiaojun Lian Yong Wang Yuguo Lei | 2023 | Bioactive Materials2023,,4: | 0 |
