| 1 | Design and demonstration of a next-generation air quality attainment assessment system for PM_(2.5)and O_3显示文摘Due to the increasingly stringent standards, it is important to assess whether the proposed emission reduction will result in ambient concentrations that meet the standards. The Software for Model Attainment Test—Community Edition(SMAT-CE) is developed for demonstrating attainment of air quality standards of O3 and PM2.5. SMAT-CE improves computational efficiency and provides a number of advanced visualization and analytical functionalities on an integrated GIS platform. SMAT-CE incorporates historical measurements of air quality parameters and simulated air pollutant concentrations under a number of emission inventory scenarios to project the level of compliance to air quality standards in a targeted future year. | 2 | Development and case study of a science-based software platform to support policy making on air quality显示文摘This article describes the development and implementations of a novel software platform that supports real-time, science-based policy making on air quality through a user-friendly interface. The software, RSM-VAT, uses a response surface modeling(RSM) methodology and serves as a visualization and analysis tool(VAT) for three-dimensional air quality data obtained by atmospheric models. The software features a number of powerful and intuitive data visualization functions for illustrating the complex nonlinear relationship between emission reductions and air quality benefits. | 3 | A case study of development and application of a streamlined control and response modeling system for PM_(2.5)attainment assessment in China显示文摘This article describes the development and application of a streamlined air control and response modeling system with a novel response surface modeling-linear coupled fitting method and a new module to provide streamlined model data for PM_(2.5) attainment assessment in China.This method is capable of significantly reducing the dimensions required to establish a response surface model,as well as capturing more realistic response of PM_(2.5) to emission changes with a limited number of model simulations.The newly developed module establishes a data link between the system and the Software for Model Attainment Test—Community Edition(SMAT-CE),and has the ability to rapidly provide model responses to emission control scenarios for SMAT-CE using a simple interface.The performance of this streamlined system is demonstrated through a case study of the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) in China.Our results show that this system is capable of reproducing the Community Multi-Scale Air Quality(CMAQ) model simulation results with maximum mean normalized error < 3.5%.It is also demonstrated that primary emissions make a major contribution to ambient levels of PM_(2.5) in January and August(e.g.,more than50%contributed by primary emissions in Shanghai),and Shanghai needs to have regional emission control both locally and in its neighboring provinces to meet China's annual PM_(2.5)National Ambient Air Quality Standard.The streamlined system provides a real-time control/response assessment to identify the contributions of major emission sources to ambient PM_(2.5)(and potentially O_3 as well) and streamline air quality data for SMAT-CE to perform attainment assessments. | Shicheng Long Yun Zhu Carey Jang Che-Jen Lin Shuxiao Wang Bin Zhao Jian Gao Shuang Deng Junping Xie Xuezhen Qiu | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,3: | 9 |

| 5 | Distributed Containment Control of Networked Nonlinear Second-order Systems With Unknown Parameters显示文摘In this paper, we study the containment control problem for nonlinear second-order systems with unknown parameters and multiple stationary/dynamic leaders. The topologies that characterize the interaction among the leaders and the followers are directed graphs. Necessary and sufficient criteria which guarantee the control objectives are established for both stationary leaders(regulation case) and dynamic leaders(dynamic tracking case) based protocols. The final states of all the followers are exclusively determined by the initial values of the leaders and the topology structures. | 8 | Synergy of first-and second-sphere interactions in a covalent organic framework boosts highly selective platinum uptake显示文摘Platinum recovery from waste electrical and electronic equipment(WEEE) in highly acidic solutions is significant to the electronics industry and environmental remediation. However, the lack of ingenious design and synergetic coordination gives rise to unsatisfied PtCl_(4)^(2-)extraction capacities and selectivities in most previously reported adsorbents(e.g., polymeric and inorganic materials). Herein, we proposed a synergistic strategy that realizes highly selective PtCl_(4)^(2-)uptake through first-and second-sphere coordinations. The proof-of-concept imine-linked covalent organic framework(SCU-COF-3) was found to chelate Pt Cl42-via the direct N…Pt coordination and the synergistically interlaminar N–H…Cl hydrogen bonds, which was disclosed by the comprehensive analysis of extended X-ray adsorption fine structure(EXAFS) characterizations and density functional theory(DFT) calculations. The unique adsorption mechanism imparts a superior adsorption capacity(168.4 mg g-1)and extraordinary Pt(II) selectivity to SCU-COF-3 under static conditions. In addition, SCU-COF-3 exhibits an upgraded distribution coefficient of 1.62 × 10^(5)mL· g^(-1), one order of magnitude higher than those of reported natural adsorbents. | 10 | Screening the Optimal Patterned Surfaces Consisting of Cell Morphology Mimicking Micro-pillars and Nanotube Arrays for the Design of Titanium Implants#br#显示文摘Micron/nano scale topographic modification has been a significant focus of interest in current titanium(Ti)surface design.However,the influence of micron/nano structured surface on cell or bacterium behavior on the Ti implant has rarely been systematically evaluated.Moreover,except for popular microgrooves,little work has been carried out on the reaction of cells to the bionic structure.In this study,several micro-pillars mimicking cell morphology were prepared on Ti surfaces by lithography and contact printing(ICP)method,and they were further decorated with nanotube arrays by anodization technology.These surface modifications remarkablly increased the surface roughness of pristine Ti surface from 91.17 nm±5.57 nm to be more than 1000 nm,and reduced their water contact angles from 68.3°±0.7°to be 16.9°±2.4°.Then,the effects of these hierarchical micron/nano scale patterns on the behaviors of MG63 osteoblasts,L929 fibroblasts,SCC epithelial cells and P.gingivalis were studied,aiming to evaluate their performance in osseointegration,gingival epithelial sealing and antibacterial ability.Through an innovative scoring strategy,our findings showed that square micro-pillars with 6μm width and 2μm height combined with 85 nm diameter nanotubes was suitable for implant neck design,while square micro-pillars with 3μm width and 3.6μm height combined with 55 nm diameter nanotubes was the best for implant body design.Our study reveals the synergistic effect of the hierarchical micron/nano scale patterns on MG63 osteoblasts,L929 fibroblasts,SCC epithelial cells and P.gingivalis functions.It provides insight into the design of biomedical implant surfaces. | Ping Zhou Hongjiao Li Feifei Mao Hongxin Huang Siqi Long Fei He Jing Chen Shicheng Wei | 2021 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2021,18,2: | 0 |

| 13 | Lactobacillus johnsonii N5 from heat stress-resistant pigs improves gut mucosal immunity and barrier in dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis显示文摘Developing effective strategies to prevent diarrhea and associated-gut disorders in mammals has gained great significance.Owing to the many health benefits provided by the commensal microbiota of the intestinal tract,such as against environmental perturbation,we explored the host phenotype-associated microbes and their probiotic potential.Based on the observations that the chronic heat stress-exposed weaned piglets present as heat stress-susceptible(HS-SUS)or heat stress-resistant(HS-RES)individuals,we confirmed the phenotypic difference between the two on growth performance(P<0.05),diarrhea index(P<0.001),intestinal heat shock protein 70(HSP70)regulation(P<0.01),and inflammatory responses(P<0.01).By comparing the gut microbiome using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and KEGG functional analysis,we found that Lactobacillus johnsonii exhibited significantly higher relative abundance in the HS-RES piglets than in the HS-SUS ones(P<0.05).Further experiments using a mouse model for chemical-induced inflammation and intestinal injury demonstrated that oral administration of a representative L.johnsonii N5(isolated from the HS-RES piglets)ameliorated the clinical and histological signs of colitis while suppressing intestinal pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-a and IL-6 production(P<0.05).We found that N5 treatment enhanced tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin and cytoprotective HSP70 levels under physiological condition and restored their mucosal expressions in colitis(P<0.05).In support of the high production of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10,N5 promoted the intestinal Peyer’s patches MHCⅡ+and CD103+dendritic cell populations(P<0.05),increased the regulatory T(Treg)cell numbers(P<0.05),and decreased the Th17 population and its IL-17a production under physiological condition and during colitis(P<0.01).Our results shed light on understanding the interaction between commensal Lactobacillus and the host health,and provide L.johnsonii N5 as an alternative to antibiotics for preventing diarrhea and intestinal diseases. | Long Yuan Chuyang Zhu Fang Gu Miaonan Zhu Jiacheng Yao Cuipeng Zhu Shicheng Li Kun Wang Ping Hu Yunzeng Zhang Demin Cai Hao-Yu Liu | 2023 | Animal Nutrition2023,,4: | 0 |
