1Effect of Helicobacter pylori on gastric epithelial cells显示文摘The gastrointestinal epithelium has cells with features that make them a powerful line of defense in innate mucosal immunity. Features that allow gastrointestinal epithelial cells to contribute in innate defense include cell barrier integrity, cell turnover, autophagy, and innate immune responses. Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is a spiral shape gram negative bacterium that selectively colonizes the gastric epithelium of more than half of the world's population. The infection invariably becomes persistent due to highly specialized mechanisms that facilitate H. pylori 's avoidance of this initial line of host defense as well as adaptive immune mechanisms. The host response is thus unsuccessful in clearing the infection and as a result becomes established as a persistent infection promoting chronic inflammation. In some individuals the associated inflammation contributes to ulcerogenesis or neoplasia. H. pylori has an array of different strategies to interact intimately with epithelial cells and manipulate their cellular processes and functions. Among the multiple aspects that H. pylori affects in gastric epithelial cells are their distribution of epithelial junctions, DNA damage, apoptosis, proliferation, stimulation of cytokine production, and cell transformation. Some of these processes are initiated as a result of the activation of signaling mechanisms activated on binding of H. pylori to cell surface receptors or via soluble virulence factors that gain access to the epithelium. 2Immune evasion strategies used by Helicobacter pylori显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is perhaps the most ubiquitous and successful human pathogen, since it colonizes the stomach of more than half of humankind. Infection with this bacterium is commonly acquired during childhood. Once infected, people carry the bacteria for decades or even for life, if not treated. Persistent infection with this pathogen causes gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and is also strongly associated with the development of gastric cancer. Despite induction of innate and adaptive immune responses in the infected individual, the host is unable to clear the bacteria. One widely accepted hallmark of H. pylori is that it successfully and stealthily evades host defense mechanisms. Though the gastric mucosa is well protected against infection, H. pylori is able to reside under the mucus, attach to gastric epithelial cells and cause persistent infection by evading immune responses mediated by host. In this review, we discuss how H. pylori avoids innate and acquired immune response elements, uses gastric epithelial cells as mediators to manipulate host T cell responses and uses virulence factors to avoid adaptive immune responses by T cells to establish a persistent infection. 3Cytogenetic and Gene Expression Study in Radiation Workers Occupationally Exposed to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation显示文摘Background:Exposure to IR(ionizing radiation)causes damage to living cells,especially to DNA,the degree of cellular damage depends on the radiation amount.Humans are naturally exposed to IR from cosmic rays,and artificially through diagnostic procedures,medical treatments or occupationally during work shifts.Cytogenetic assay of peripheral blood lymphocytes can provide a biological estimation of the dose received in IR exposures.The CBMN(cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus)assay is a widely used,since it represents a reliable test to detect radiation-induced chromosome aberration and it is a valuable biomarker in many biomonitoring studies on human populations occupationally exposed to IR.The NDI(nuclear division index)is a cell proliferation marker in cultures which is considered a measure of general cytotoxicity,the relative frequencies of the cells may be used to define cell cycles progression of the lymphocyte after mitogenic stimulation.Nevertheless the assay is frequently employed as a useful research tool for understanding the cell cycling kinetics of the cultures.Many gene expression studies demonstrated an up-regulation of genes involved in the processes of signal transduction,control of cell cycle,DNA repair and apoptosis after exposure of IR in different mammalian cell types.Altered expression of a few genes plays specific roles in DNA repair/cell cycle control such as CDKN1A,XPC,GADD45A,DDB2 and PCNA and cell cycle regulation/proliferation such as IL16,CABLES2,TGFB2 and RHOA.Objective:The present study aims to use the MN,NDI and gene expression analysis as biomarkers for investigation of the effects of IR exposure in some radiation workers occupationally exposed to low IR in Al-Tuwaitha site,Baghdad,Iraq.Also,authors assessed the effect of IR on the expression of some gene marker such as:RHOA,CDKN1A,GADD45A and RAD52.Methods:This study was carried out on thirty Iraqi male radiation workers occupationally exposed to low levels of IR at Al-Tuwaitha site,Baghdad,non-smokers and non-alcoholic,aged 30-59 years,as well as thirty apparently healthy individuals males collected randomly from population living in Baghdad,aged 30-59 years who are non-smokers,non-alcoholic as control group.Three molecular genetic parameters were employed such as CBMN,NDI and gene expression assay.The MN and NDI assay were performed according to the description by IAEA,2001.Total RNA was isolated from blood for radiation worker and control group.The RNA concentration was determined by measuring their absorbance that depends on the ratio A260/A280 of the wavelength,which leads to the determination of RNA purity,which ranged from 1.79-2.1 in two groups.Using RT-PCR for study gene expression,four types of specialized primer genes were selected for the mRNA genes:RHOA,CDKN1A,GADD45A and RAD52 which have a relation with IR in addition to the primers for internal control.Housekeeping gene((β-actin)was used as a reference gene to normalize the quantity of the target genes.Results:The results of cytogenetic analysis showed that micronuclei frequencies were significantly higher(p<0.01)in the radiation workers group in Al-Tuwaithasite,Baghdadas compared with the control group,and showed significant decrease(p>0.01)in the NDI in radiation workers as compared with the control group.Total RNA was isolated from blood for the radiation workers and control groups mentioned.Using RT-PCR for study gene expression,four types of specialized primer genes were selected for the mRNA:genes RHOA,CDKN1A,GADD45A and RAD52 which have a relation with IR in addition to the primers for internal control(β-actin)gene.The products of replicated specialized primers for the genes concerned and the cDNA for the studied samples were electrophoretically separated in agarose gels.The banding profiles were visualized by ethidium bromide staining,as the molecular weight were 135 bp,165 bp,185 bp and 470 bp(nitrogen-base pair)for RHOA,CDKN1A,GADD45A and RAD52 genes,respectively.Gene expression analysis revealed statistically significant(ΔΔCt comparative Ct method)transcriptional changes in three genes RHOA,GADD45A,CDKN1A up-regulated while the RAD52 gene down-regulated.Conclusions:The results indicated that there is a possibility of using the changes in the MN,NDI and genes expression such as RHOA,CDKN1A,GADD45A and RAD52 as useful biomarkers for detection of IR in radiation workers occupationally exposed to low levels of IR.Abdulsahib.K.Ali.Al-Ziyad Amel J.Mutar Zainab Abbas Ouda Shatha K.Khyon 2021Journal of US-China Medical Science2021,18,1:2

9Attractive Multistep Reproducing Kernel Approach for Solving Stiffness Differential Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations and Some Error Analysis显示文摘In this paper,an efficient multi-step scheme is presented based on reproducing kernel Hilbert space(RKHS)theory for solving ordinary stiff differential systems.The solution methodology depends on reproducing kernel functions to obtain analytic solutions in a uniform formfor a rapidly convergent series in the posed Sobolev space.Using the Gram-Schmidt orthogonality process,complete orthogonal essential functions are obtained in a compact field to encompass Fourier series expansion with the help of kernel properties reproduction.Consequently,by applying the standard RKHS method to each subinterval,approximate solutions that converge uniformly to the exact solutions are obtained.For this purpose,several numerical examples are tested to show proposed algorithm’s superiority,simplicity,and efficiency.The gained results indicate that themulti-step RKHSmethod is suitable for solving linear and nonlinear stiffness systems over an extensive duration and giving highly accurate outcomes.Radwan Abu-Gdairi Shatha Hasan Shrideh Al-Omari Mohammad Al-Smadi Shaher Momani 2022Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2022,,1:0
10Video Games Localization into Arabic:Gamers’Reactions to Localizing PUBG and Free Fire显示文摘The Middle East and North Africa(MENA)region has an active gaming community,with Arab gamers being reliant on games produced in Europe,America,and Japan due to the lack of significant game production companies in the MENA region.This study explores the gamers’reactions to the localization process of two video games,namely PUBG and Free Fire.For data collection purposes,a five-point Likert scale questionnaire that consisted of 18 items and six constructs,namely need for subtitled games,technical aspects,language issues,language preference,attitudes to game localization,and future actions and recommendations,was designed to elicit the reactions of 112 participants.Upon analyzing the responses,the findings showed that the better the technical aspects and language issues of the games’performance,the more positive participants’attitudes to game localization.The study recommends that further research could be conducted on the localization of video games with different themes into Arabic.Shatha Jarrah Saleh Al-Salman Ahmad S Haider 2023Journal of Social Computing2023,4,1:0
11IWD-Miner: A Novel Metaheuristic Algorithm for Medical Data Classification显示文摘Medical data classification(MDC)refers to the application of classification methods on medical datasets.This work focuses on applying a classification task to medical datasets related to specific diseases in order to predict the associated diagnosis or prognosis.To gain experts’trust,the prediction and the reasoning behind it are equally important.Accordingly,we confine our research to learn rule-based models because they are transparent and comprehensible.One approach to MDC involves the use of metaheuristic(MH)algorithms.Here we report on the development and testing of a novel MH algorithm:IWD-Miner.This algorithm can be viewed as a fusion of Intelligent Water Drops(IWDs)and AntMiner+.It was subjected to a four-stage sensitivity analysis to optimize its performance.For this purpose,21 publicly available medical datasets were used from the Machine Learning Repository at the University of California Irvine.Interestingly,there were only limited differences in performance between IWDMiner variants which is suggestive of its robustness.Finally,using the same 21 datasets,we compared the performance of the optimized IWD-Miner against two extant algorithms,AntMiner+and J48.The experiments showed that both rival algorithms are considered comparable in the effectiveness to IWD-Miner,as confirmed by the Wilcoxon nonparametric statistical test.Results suggest that IWD-Miner is more efficient than AntMiner+as measured by the average number of fitness evaluations to a solution(1,386,621.30 vs.2,827,283.88 fitness evaluations,respectively).J48 exhibited higher accuracy on average than IWD-Miner(79.58 vs.73.65,respectively)but produced larger models(32.82 leaves vs.8.38 terms,respectively).Sarab AlMuhaideb Reem BinGhannam Nourah Alhelal Shatha Alduheshi Fatimah Alkhamees Raghad Alsuhaibani 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,2:0
12Investigating the influence of gamma ray energies and steel fiber on attenuation properties of reactive powder concrete显示文摘The effect of gamma ray energies and volume ratio of micro steel fiber(1 and 1.5%) on attenuation properties of reactive powder concrete(70 MPa compressive strength) was investigated. Different characteristics have been considered such as linear attenuation coefficient,mass attenuation coefficient, and half-value thickness.Sodium iodide crystal with a gamma ray spectrometer and collimated beam of gamma ray has been implemented to perform the experimental test. Three sources(Cs-137, Co-60, and Bi-207) with energies of(0.662, 1.17 1.33, 0.569,and 1.063) MeV were adopted in the test. The results obtained indicated that mass attenuation coefficient is proportioned inversely with gamma ray energies and directly with a volume ratio of micro steel fiber. The linear attenuation coefficient and half-value thickness of the tested samples have been calculated and discussed. 16Application of advanced platelet-rich fibrin for through-and-through bony defect during endodontic surgery:Three case reports and review of the literature显示文摘BACKGROUND The use of advanced platelet-rich fibrin(A-PRF)membranes for guided bone and tissue regeneration in through-and-through defects after endodontic surgery was explored in three cases.CASE SUMMARY Herein,three patients presented to the endodontic clinic suffering from apical periodontitis,associated with large bone resorption and related to previously endodontically treated teeth.Periapical surgery was indicated in these cases and the osteotomy site was covered by A-PRF membrane.Cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT)was used to assess the cases before and after the surgery.CONCLUSION Four months post-surgery,the recall CBCT scan showed complete obliteration of the osteotomy with newly formed bone.A-PRF membrane showed promising results and was an advantageous addition to surgical endodontic treatment.Fahda N Algahtani Rahaf Almohareb Manar Aljamie Nouf Alkhunaini Shatha Subhi ALHarthi Reem Barakat 2023World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,17:0
