1Cardiovascular dysfunction following spinal cord injury显示文摘Both sensorimotor and autonomic dysfunctions often occur after spinal cord injury(SCI). Particularly, a high thoracic or cervical SCI interrupts supraspinal vasomotor pathways and results in disordered hemodynamics due to deregulated sympathetic outflow. As a result of the reduced sympathetic activity, patients with SCI may experience hypotension, cardiac dysrhythmias, and hypothermia post-injury. In the chronic phase, changes within the CNS and blood vessels lead to orthostatic hypotension and life-threatening autonomic dysreflexia(AD). AD is characterized by an episodic, massive sympathetic discharge that causes severe hypertension associated with bradycardia. The syndrome is often triggered by unpleasant visceral or sensory stimuli below the injury level. Currently the only treatments are palliative – once a stimulus elicits AD, pharmacological vasodilators are administered to help reduce the spike in arterial blood pressure. However, a more effective means would be to mitigate AD development by attenuating contributing mechanisms, such as the reorganization of intraspinal circuits below the level of injury. 2Occurrence of human pathogenic bacteria carrying antibiotic resistance genes revealed by metagenomic approach: A case study from an aquatic environment显示文摘Antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs), human pathogenic bacteria(HPB), and HPB carrying ARGs are public issues that pose a high risk to aquatic environments and public health. Their diversity and abundance in water, intestine, and sediments of shrimp culture pond were investigated using metagenomic approach. A total of 19 classes of ARGs, 52 HPB species, and 7 species of HPB carrying ARGs were found. Additionally, 157, 104, and 86 subtypes of ARGs were detected in shrimp intestine, pond water, and sediment samples, respectively. In all the samples, multidrug resistance genes were the highest abundant class of ARGs. The dominant HPB was Enterococcus faecalis in shrimp intestine, Vibrio parahaemolyticus in sediments, and Mycobacterium yongonense in water, respectively. Moreover, E. faecalis(contig Intestine_364647)and Enterococcus faecium(contig Intestine_80272) carrying efr A, efr B and ANT(6)-Ia were found in shrimp intestine, Desulfosaricina cetonica(contig Sediment_825143) and Escherichia coli(contig Sediment_188430) carrying mex B and APH(3′)-IIa were found in sediments, and Laribacter hongkongensis(contig Water_478168 and Water_369477), Shigella sonnei(contig Water_880246),and Acinetobacter baumannii(contig Water_525520) carrying sul1, sul2, ere A, qac H, OXA-21, and mph D were found in pond water. Mobile genetic elements(MGEs) analysis indicated that horizontal gene transfer(HGT) of integrons, insertion sequences, and plasmids existed in shrimp intestine, sediment, and water samples, and the abundance of integrons was higher than that of other two MGEs. 3Autonomic dysreflexia: a cardiovascular disorder following spinal cord injury显示文摘Autonomic dysreflexia(AD) is a serious cardiovascular disorder in patients with spinal cord injury(SCI). The primary underlying cause of AD is loss of supraspinal control over sympathetic preganglionic neurons(SPNs) caudal to the injury, which renders the SPNs hyper-responsive to stimulation. Central maladaptive plasticity, including C-fiber sprouting and propriospinal fiber proliferation exaggerates noxious afferent transmission to the SPNs, causing them to release massive sympathetic discharges that result in severe hypertensive episodes. In parallel, upregulated peripheral vascular sensitivity following SCI exacerbates the hypertensive response by augmenting gastric and pelvic vasoconstriction. Currently, the majority of clinically employed treatments for AD involve anti-hypertensive medications and Botox injections to the bladder. Although these approaches mitigate the severity of AD, they only yield transient effects and target the effector organs, rather than addressing the primary issue of central sympathetic dysregulation. As such, strategies that aim to restore supraspinal reinnervation of SPNs to improve cardiovascular sympathetic regulation are likely more effective for AD. 5Compact and broadband multimode waveguide bend by shape-optimizing with transformation optics显示文摘Multimode waveguide bend is one of the key components for realizing high-density mode-division multiplexing systems on chip.However,the reported multimode waveguide bends are either large,bandwidth-limited or fabrication-complicated,which hinders their applications in future high-density multimode photonic circuits.Here we propose a compact multimode waveguide bend supporting four TE modes simply by shape-optimizing with transformation optics.The shape of the waveguide is optimized in the virtual space with gradient distribution of the refractive index,so that the scattering loss and intermode cross talk are well suppressed.After conformal mapping back into the physical space,a compact(effective radius of 17μm)multimode bending waveguide is obtained.Simulations show that the proposed multimode waveguide bend has little loss(<0.1 dB)and low cross talk(<−20 dB)throughout an ultrabroad wavelength range of 1.16–1.66μm.We also fabricated the shape-optimized multimode bending waveguide on a silicon-on-insulator wafer.At 1550 nm wavelength,the measured excess losses for the four lowest-order TE modes are less than 0.6 dB,and the intermode cross talks are all below−17 dB.Our study paves the way for realizing high-density and large-scale multimode integrated optical circuits for optical interconnect.SHUYI LI LIFENG CAI DINGSHAN GAO JIANJI DONG JIN HOU CHUNYONG YANG SHAOPING CHEN XINLIANG ZHANG 2020Photonics Research2020,8,12:3

7Enhanced complete photonic bandgap in a moderate refractive index contrast chalcogenide-air system with connected-annular-rods photonic crystals显示文摘Connected-annular-rods photonic crystals(CARPCs) in both triangular and square lattices are proposed to enhance the two-dimensional complete photonic bandgap(CPBG) for chalcogenide material systems with moderate refractive index contrast. For the typical chalcogenide-glass–air system with an index contrast of 2.8:1, the optimized square lattice CARPC exhibits a significantly larger normalized CPBG of about 13.50%, though the use of triangular lattice CARPC is unable to enhance the CPBG. It is almost twice as large as our previously reported result [IEEE J. Sel. Top. Quantum Electron. 22, 4900108(2016)]. Moreover, the CPBG of the square-lattice CARPC could remain until an index contrast as low as 2.24:1. 8Engineering ultra-flattened-dispersion photonic crystal fibers with uniform holes by rotations of inner rings显示文摘We present a novel method for engineering ultra-flattened-dispersion photonic crystal fibers with uniform air holes by rotations of inner air-hole rings around the fiber core.By choosing suitable rotation angles of each inner ring,theoretical results show that normal,anomalous,and nearly zero ultra-flattened-dispersion fibers in wide spectra ranges of interest can be obtained alternatively.Moreover,in our dispersion sensitive analysis,these types of fibers are robust to variations from optimal design parameters.The method is suitable for the accurate adjustment of fiber dispersion within a small range,which would be valuable for the fabrication of ultra-flattened-dispersion fibers and also have potential applications in wide-band high-speed optical communication systems.Jin Hou Jiajia Zhao Chunyong Yang Zhiyou Zhong Yihua Gao Shaoping Chen 2014Photonics Research2014,2,2:1
9Complete photonic bandgap in silicon nitride slab assisted by effective index difference between polarizations显示文摘The slab effective index difference between the transverse-electric(TE)and transverse-magnetic(TM)polarizations was utilized to obtain complete photonic bandgap(CPBG)in a silicon nitride(Si_(x)N_(y))photonic crystal slab.For this,coincident frequency range in the TE photonic bandgap(PBG)and TM PBG,which denotes the CPBGs of the slab,must be found with the same structure.Through adjusting the effective index pair of TE and TM polarizations by changing the thickness of the Si_(x)N_(y)core layer,and also optimizing the structure parameters within the photonic crystal plane,a large normalized CPBG of 5.62%was theoretically obtained in a slab of Si_(x)N_(y)with a refractive index of 2.5.Moreover,based on the obtained CPBG,a microcavity which could support both TE and TM polarization was theoretically demonstrated.The cavity modes for different polarizations were both well confined,which proved the reliability of the CPBG.In addition,using the same method,the lowest refractive index of Si_(x)N_(y)on silica slab for a CPBG could be extended to as low as 2.The results indicate that there is potential for development of various high-performance CPBG devices based on Si_(x)N_(y)slab technology.Can Ma Jin Hou Chunyong Yang Ming Shi Shaoping Chen 2022Frontiers of Optoelectronics2022,15,2:0
10Bacterial and eukaryotic community interactions might contribute to shrimp culture pond soil ecosystem at different culture stages显示文摘Sedimentary bacterial and eukaryotic communities are major components of the aquatic ecosystem.Revealing the linkages between their community structure and interactions is crucial to understand the diversity and functions of aquatic and soil ecosystems.However,how their diversity and assembly contribute to their interactions on time scale is unclear.This study examined sedimentary bacterial and eukaryotic communities in shrimp culture ponds at different culture stages.The most abundant bacteria were Proteobacteria(38.27%),whereas the most abundant eukaryotes were Chytridiomycota(27.48%).Bacterial and eukaryotic diversities were correlated(P<0.05),implying the strong interactions between bacteria and eukaryotes.Results showed that the bacterial and eukaryotic communities became increasingly similar on a local scale along with the shrimp culture.Only the eukaryotic community significantly increased in similarity along with the shrimp culture(P<0.05),suggesting that the sedimentary eukaryotic community structure is sensitive under shrimp culture.Co-occurrence network modeling indicated that positive microbial interactions were dominant.The homogeneous selection was the major driver of community assembly.Bacterial diversity negatively correlated with operational taxonomic units and positive links in networks(P<0.05),whereas eukaryotic diversities positively correlated with positive links in networks(P<0.05).This study broadens our knowledge about sedimentary microbial diversity,community assembly,and interaction patterns on time scale,providing a reference for the sustainable management in aquaculture production.Renjun Zhou Hao Wang Dongdong Wei Shenzheng Zeng Dongwei Hou Shaoping Weng Jianguo He Zhijian Huang 2022Soil Ecology Letters2022,4,2:0
