| 1 | Expression levels of pro-inflammatory interleukin-8 and certain antimicrobial peptides in concurrent with bacterial conjunctivitis显示文摘AIM:To detect the quantitative expression levels of the pro-inflammatory interleukin-8(IL8),antimicrobial peptides human beta defense-2(HBD2),and human beta defense-3(HBD3)genes in bacterial conjunctivitis.METHODS:The human conjunctival epithelial cells were obtained using the impression cytology technique from healthy controls and patients.The genes expression levels were determined utilizing a reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-q PCR).The contribution of causative agent type,the number of isolates and severity of clinical features,in the increase of genes expression was also determined.RESULTS:The RT-q PCR showed that IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 expression increased in bacterial conjunctivitis as compared to healthy control(P<0.001).In gram-negative bacterial conjunctivitis,HBD2 was highly up-regulated(P<0.001)compared to other types of bacterial conjunctivitis.In mixed bacterial conjunctivitis,a direct correlation between HBD2 up-regulation and HBD3 up-regulation was observed(P<0.05).The severity of clinical features was related to the up-regulation of IL8 and HBD2(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 are immuneeffectors in infectious conjunctivitis.HBD2 is active during different bacterial conjunctivitis but is more released with gram-negative bacteria compared to gram-positive bacteria.HBD3 is an obvious defender in different bacterial conjunctivitis. | Alaa El-Dien Shawky Hosny Zeinab El-Demerdash El-Bazza Mohammed Abdelhalim Ramadan Maha Ahmed Shafik Mahmoud Ahmed Shafeek Rania Abdelmonem Khattab | 2021 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021，14，5： | 2 |
| 2 | Comparative analysis of the efficacy of astigmatic correction after wavefront-guided and wavefront-optimized LASIK in low and moderate myopic eyes显示文摘AIM: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of the astigmatic correction achieved with laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK) in eyes with myopic astigmatism using wavefront-guided(WFG) and wavefront-optimized(WFO) ablation profiles.METHODS: Prospective study included 221 eyes undergoing LASIK: 99 and 122 eyes with low and moderate myopic astigmatism(low and moderate myopia groups).Two subgroups were differentiated in each group according to the ablation profile: WFG subgroup,109 eyes(45/64,low/moderate myopia groups) treated using the Advanced Custom Vue platform(Abbott Medical Optics Inc.),and WFO subgroup,112 eyes(54/58,low/moderate myopia groups) treated using the EX-500 platform(Alcon).Clinical outcomes were evaluated during a 6-month follow-up,including a vector analysis of astigmatic changes.RESULTS: Significantly better postoperative uncorrected visual acuity and efficacy index was found in the WFG subgroups of each group(P≤0.041).Postoperative spherical equivalent and cylinder were significantly higher in WFO subgroups(P≤0.003).In moderate myopia group,a higher percentage of eyes with a postoperative cylinder ≤0.25 D was found in the WFG subgroup(90.6% vs 65.5%,P=0.002).In low and moderate myopia groups,the difference vector was significantly higher in the WFO subgroup compared to WFG(P<0.001).In moderate myopia group,the magnitude(P=0.008) and angle of error(P<0.001) were also significantly higher in the WFO subgroup.Significantlyless induction of high order aberrations were found with WFG treatments in both low and moderate myopia groups(P≤0.006).CONCLUSION: A more efficacious correction of myopic astigmatism providing a better visual outcome is achieved with WFG LASIK compared to WFO LASIK. | Mounir A.Khalifa Mahmoud F.Alsahn Mohamed Shafik Shaheen David P.Pinero | 2017 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017，10，2： | 2 |

| 19 | Three new methods for male contraception显示文摘The methods devised for male contraception are meagre. In the current communication, we review 3 recently de-veloped methods applied for male contraception: testicular suspension, polyester-induced azoospermia and prolactin in-jection. The testicle was suspended in the superficial inguinal pouch close to the scrotal neck using 2 methods: stitchand ball. The azoospermic effect of the polyester sling seems to be due to 1) creation of electn^static field across theinWascrotal slructures, and 2) disordered thermoregulation. Pmlactin administration, as a contraceptive method is effi-cient and safe and has the potential to be developed as a male contraceptive. The effect of the above mentioned 3 methods is reversible.
