Source mechanism of strong aftershocks (M_s≥5.6) of the 2008/05/12 Wenchuan earthquake and the implication for seismotectonics显示文摘Dozens of >M5, hundreds of >M4, and much more >M3 aftershocks occurred after the 2008/05/12 Wenchuan earthquake, which were well recorded by permanent and portable seismic stations. After relocated with P arrival, the >M3 aftershocks show two trends of distribution, with most of the aftershocks located along the north-east strike consistent with Longmenshan fault system, yet there is a north-west trend around the epicenter. It seems that substantially more aftershocks occur in regions with crystalline bedrocks. Then we collected waveform data from National Digital Seismograph Network and regional seismograph network of China, and employed 'Cut and Paste' method to obtain focal mechanisms and depths of the big aftershocks (M≥5.6). While most of those aftershocks show thrust mechanism, there are some strike slip earthquakes in the northern-most end of the rupture. Focal mechanisms show that the events located on the southern part of central Beichuan-Yingxiu Fault (BY) are mainly thrust earthquakes, which is consistent with initial mechanism of the main shock rupture. In the north part the aftershocks along the BY are also dominated by thrust slip, which is quite different from the right slip rupture of the main shock. Around Qingchuan-Pingwu Fault, the focal mechanisms are dominated by right-slip rupture with large depths (~18 km). So we suspected that in the north part the main shock might rupture on two faults: Beichuan Fault and Qingchuan-Pingwu Fault. The complex pattern of aftershock mechanisms argues for presence of a complicated fault system in the Longmenshan area.ZHENG Yong1,2,MA HongSheng3,Lü Jian4,NI SiDao5,LI YingChun6 & WEI ShengJi2 1 Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Wuhan 430077,China 2 Institute of Geophysics,Chinese Earthquake Administration,Beijing 100086,China 3 Institute of Earthquake Science,Chinese Earthquake Administration,Beijing 100086,China 4 Earthquake Administration of Jiangxi Province,Nanchang 330039,China 5 School of Earth and Space Science,University of Science and Technology of China,Hefei 230026,China 6 Earthquake Administration of Jiangsu Province,Nanjing 210014,China 2009Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,6:100
Increasing the frequency of CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy may decrease risk of death in gastric cancer patients显示文摘AIM: To analyze the correlation between cytokineinduced killer (CIK) cells adoptive immunotherapy and cancer-related death in gastric cancer patients. METHODS: One hundred and fifty-six gastric cancer patients after operation at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University were enrolled in this study. Their clinical data including demographic characteristics, operation time, tumor size, pathological type and staging, tumor metastasis, outcome of chemotherapy or CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy, survival time or time of death were collected with a standard structured questionnaire. Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the median survival time, and the 2- and 5- year survival rates. Hazard risk (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy for gastric cancer were calculated using the two-stage time-dependent covariates Cox model. RESULTS: The survival time of gastric cancer patients was longer after CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy than after chemotherapy (χ 2 = 10.907, P = 0.001). The median survival time of gastric cancer patients was also longer after CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy than after chemotherapy (49 mo vs 27 mo, P < 0.05). The 2- and 5-year survival rates of gastric cancer patients were significantly higher after CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy than after chemotherapy (73.5% vs 52.6%, 40.4% vs 23.9%, P < 0.05). A significant difference was observed in the survival curve for patients who received CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy (0, 1-10, 11-25, and over 25 frequencies) (χ 2 = 14.534, P = 0.002). The frequencies of CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy were significantly related with the decreasing risk of death in gastric cancer patients after adjustment for sex and age of the patients, tumor stage and relapse (HR = 0.54, 95% CI: 0.36-0.80) when the first stage Cox model was used to define the subjects who remained alive beyond 36 mo as survivors. However, no correlation was observed between the frequencies of death in CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy and the risk of gastric cancer patients (HR = 1.09, 95% CI: 0.63-0.89) when the second stage Cox model was used to define the subjects who survived for more than 36 mo as survivors. CONCLUSION: The survival time of the gastric cancer patients treated with chemotherapy combined with CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy is significantly longer than that of the patients treated with chemotherapy alone and increasing the frequency of CIK cells adoptive immunotherapy seems to benefit patients more.Jing-Ting Jiang, Chang-Ping Wu, Lu-Jun Chen, Xiao Zheng, Department of Tumor Biological Treatment, Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Changzhou 213003, Jiangsu Province, China Yi-Bei Zhu, Jing Sun, Xue-Guang Zhang, Key Laboratory of Stem Cell of Jiangsu Province, Institute of Biotechnology, Key Laboratory of Clinical Immunology of Jiangsu Province, Soochow University, Suzhou 215123, Jiangsu Province, China Yue-Ping Shen, Wen-Xiang Wei, Department of Medicine, Soochow University, Suzhou 215123, Jiangsu Province, China Bin-Feng Lu, Department of Immunology, University of Pitts- burgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, PA 15261, United States 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,48:82

Effects of glutamine on intestinal permeability and bacterial translocation in TPN-rats with endotoxemia显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the protective effect and mechanism ofglutamine on the intestinal barrier function in totalparenteral nutrition (TPN) rats with trauma or endotoxemia. METHODS: To perform prospective, randomized andcontrolled animal experimentation of rats with surgicaltrauma, TPN and endotoxemia, thirty-four male, adultSprague Dawley rats were divided into four groups: control group (n=8), TPN group (n=9), trauma and endotoxemia group (LPS, n=8) and trauma plus endotoxemia supplemented with glutamine in TPN solution group (Gin.group, n=9). All groups except the control group were given TPN solutions in 7-day experimental period. For Gin group, 1 000 mg/kg/d of glutamine was added to TPN solution during day 1-6. On the 7th day all the animals were gavaged with lactulose (66 mg) and mannitol (50 mg)in 2 mi of normal saline. Then 24 h urine with preservative was collected and kept at -20 ℃. On day 8, under intraperitoneal anesthesia using 100 mg/kg ketamin, the intestine, liver, mesenteric lymph nodes and blood were taken for examination. RESULTS: The body weight of LPS group decreased most among the four groups. The structure of small intestinal mucosa in TPN group, LPS group and Gln group showed impairments of different degrees, and the damage of small intestinal mucosa in Gln group was remarkably alleviated. The concentrations of interleukins in small intestine mucosa were lower (for IL-4 and IL-6) or the lowest (IL-10) in Gln group. The IgA level in the blood plasma and the mucosa of Gln group was the highest among all of the groups. The urine lactulose/mannitol test showed that the intestinal permeability in LPS group was lower than that in TPN group (P<0.001), but there was no difference between LPS group and Gln group. The rate of bacterial translocation in Gln group was lower than that in LPS group (P<0.02). CONCLUSION: Prophylactic treatment with glutamine could minimize the increments of intestinal permeability and bacterial translocation caused by trauma and endotoxemia in rats treated with TPN.Lian-An Ding Jie-Show Li Clinical College of Nanjing University Medical School,305 East Zhongshan Road,Nanjing 210002 Jiangsu Province,China 2003World Journal of Gastroenterology2003,9,6:89
Detection and parameter estimation of multicomponent LFM signal based on the fractional Fourier transform显示文摘This paper presents a new method for the detection and parameter estimation of multicomponent LFM signals based on the fractional Fourier transform. For the optimization in the fractional Fourier domain, an algorithm based on Quasi-Newton method is proposed which consists of two steps of searching, leading to a reduction in computation without loss of accuracy. And for multicomponent signals, we further propose a signal separation technique in the fractional Fourier domain which can effectively suppress the interferences on the detection of the weak components brought by the stronger components. The statistical analysis of the estimate errors is also performed which perfects the method theoretically, and finally, simulation results are provided to show the validity of our method.QI Lin1, 2, TAO Ran1, ZHOU Siyong1 & WANG Yue1 1. 9Advanced characterization of pores and fractures in coals by nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray computed tomography显示文摘This paper demonstrates capabilities of low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and microfocus X-ray computed tomography (μCT) in advanced, nondestructive, and quantitative characterization of pore types, producible porosity, pore structure, and spatial disposition of pore-fractures in coals. Results show that the NMR transverse relaxation time (T2) at 0.5–2.5, 20–50, and >100 ms correspond to pores of <0.1 μm, >0.1 μm, and fractures, respectively. A much higher T2 spectrum peak reflects a much better development of pores (or fractures) corresponding to the T2, and vice versa. Three basic components in coals, i.e., the pores (or fractures), coal matrix, and minerals have their distinctive range of CT numbers. Among these, the CT number of pores is commonly less than 600 HU. The producible porosity, which is a determination of permeability, can be calculated by T2 cutoff value (T2C) of coal NMR. The coal pore structure can be efficiently estimated by the newly proposed 'T2C based model'. Finally, μCT scan was proven capable of modeling and spatial visualization of pores and fractures.YAO YanBin, LIU DaMeng, CAI YiDong & LI JunQian School of Energy Resources, China University of Geosciences, Beijing 100083, China 2010Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,6:61
SHRIMP dating of the Bangong Lake SSZ-type ophiolite: Constraints on the closure time of ocean in the Bangong Lake-Nujiang River, northwestern Tibet显示文摘The Bangong Lake ophiolite is located in the westernmost part of the Bangong Lake-Nujiang River suture zone. It is a tectonic mélange consisting of numerous individual blocks of peridotite, pillowed and massive lavas and mafic dykes with SSZ-type ophiolitic geochemical affinity formed at the end of a Wilson circle. The SHRIMP U-Pb ages of the co-magmatic zircon domains from one gabbroic dyke (Sample 01Y-155) range from 162.5±8.6 Ma to 177.1±1.4 Ma with an average of 167.0±1.4 Ma (n = 12, MSWD = 1.2), suggesting that the subduction of the Bangong Lake Neo-Tethyan Ocean started before the Middle Jurassic. It is inferred that the tectonic transform from spreading to subduction of the Neo-Tethyan Ocean began before the Middle Jurassic in the Bangong Lake area.SHI RenDeng1,2 1 School of Earth and Space Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei 230026, China 2 Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Beijing 100037, China (email: shird@ustc.edu.cn) 2007Chinese Science Bulletin2007,52,7:70

Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and its receptors KDR and Fit-1 in gastric cancer cells显示文摘AIM: The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors KDR and Flt-1 by gastric carcinoma tissues and different gastric carcinoma cell lines was detected to elucidate the molecular mechanism of this growth factor in promoting tumor growth.METHODS: The expression of VEGF, Flt-1 and KDR was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in gastric cancer cell lines RF-1, RF-48,AGS-1, NCI-N87, NCI-SNU-1, NCI-SNU-5, NCI-SNU-16 and KATO-Ⅲ. The expression of Flt-1 and KDR in paraffinembedded specimens of gastric cancer was determined by immunohistochemistry. The 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was used to assess the role of VEGF in tumor cell proliferation.RESULTS: All 8 gastric cancer cell lines analyzed expressed VEGF121 and VEGF16s and six of them expressed both Flt-1 and KDR, while cell line NCI-SNU-5 expressed Flt-1 only and cell line KATOⅢ expressed neither Flt-1 nor KDR. The gastric carcinoma tissues expressed Flt-1 and KDR widely, with the positive rate of expression of Flt-1 and KDR being 84.6 % and 70 % respectively. The exogenous VEGF stimulated the growth of KDR-positive cell lines NCI-N87 and AGS-1 in a dose-dependent manner but exhibited no effect on the growth of KDR-negative cell line NCI-N87.CONCLUSION: VEGF and its receptors KDR and Flt-1 were expressed widely in gastric carcinoma cells and the VEGF stimulated KDR-positive tumor cell growth directly. These results suggest that VEGF may play a role in promoting tumor growth and metastasis by participating in both paracrine and autocrine pathways.Hua Zhang Jian Wu Lin Meng Cheng-Chao Shou,Peking University School ofOncology,Beij ing Institute for Cancer Research,Beijing 100034,China 2002World Journal of Gastroenterology2002,8,6:69
Influence of the impounding process of the Three Gorges Reservoir up to water level 172.5m on water eutrophication in the Xiangxi Bay显示文摘The water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR) rose to 172.5 m in two stages from September to November,2008.The hydrodynamic parameters and water quality parameters(e.g.flow velocity, temperature, turbidity and nutrient content) had been continuously monitored to reveal the influence of the impounding process of the TGR on the water eutrophication in the Xiangxi Bay(XXB).The maximal daily rise of the water level of the TGR was about 2.38 m.The water exchange between the mainstream(the Changjiang River) and the XXB of the TGR was enhanced by density current, and its main characteristics were a density-stratified flow in different directions. The water exchange reduced the differences of the water quality parameters(for example, temperature, turbidity, nutrient level,pH,etc.) between the mainstream and the XXB during the impounding process.Meanwhile, the water stability index in the mainstream remained small but it was lowered in the XXB.The main causes included the dilution by water of lower concentration of the chlorophyll a(Chl.a) entering from the mainstream, the decline of the water stability, and the increase of suspended silt, which induced the Chl.a to decrease in the XXB during the impounding process. The grade of the water eutrophication changed from middle eutrophic level to mesotrophic state in the process. However,as available nutrients were imported into the XXB from the mainstream during the impounding process the risk of water eutrophication increases in the XXB in the future.YANG ZhengJian1,LIU DeFu1,JI DaoBin1,2 & XIAO ShangBin1,3 1 College of Civil & Hydroelectric Engineering,China Three Gorges University,Yichang 443002,China 2 School of Water Resources & Hydropower Engineering,Wuhan University,Wuhan 430072,China 3 Institute of Earth Environment,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Xi’an 710075,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,4:58
Neoproterozoic magmatic activity and global change显示文摘Neoproterozoic is a very important time in the history of the Earth, during which occurred supercontinent breakup, low-latitude glaciation, and biotic diversification. These concern a series of interdisciplinary studies involving ancient plate motion, climate change and life evolution, re-sulting in many forefront topics of general interest in the earth sciences. These include exact ages bracketing the Cryogenian System and glaciations, initial age and lasted duration of supercontinent breakup, dynamic reconstruction of China continents in supercontinental configurations, the nature of rift magmatism and extent of hydrothermal altera-tion, paleoclimatic implication of water-rock interaction and low-18O magmatism, and relationship between superconti-nental evolution and global change. A number of outstanding advances in the above aspects have being made by Chinese scientists, leaving many important issues to be resolved: (1) did the Cryogenian start at either 800 to 820 Ma or 760 to 780 Ma? (2) was South China in the supercontinental con-figuration located in either southeast to Australia or north to India? (3) are Paleoproterozoic to Archean ages of crustal rocks a valid parameter in distinguishing North China from South China? Available observations suggest that Neopro-terozoic mantle superwelling occurred as conspicuous mag-matism in South China but as cryptical magmatism in North China. Mid-Neoproterozoic mantle superplume event and its derived rift-magmatism would not only result in the supercontinental demise, but also play a very important role in the generation and evolution of the snowball Earth event by initiating the global glaciation, causing the local degla-ciation and terminating the snowball Earth event.ZHENG Yongfei School of Earth and Space Sciences, University of Science and Technol-ogy of China, Hefei 230026, China (e-mail: yfzheng@ustc.edu.cn) 2003Chinese Science Bulletin2003,48,16:58

Mantle xenoliths from Late Cretaceous basalt in eastern Shandong Province: New constraint on the timing of lithospheric thinning in eastern China显示文摘The age of the alkali basalt from Daxizhuang in Jiaozhou, eastern Shandong, was determined to be 73.5±0.3 Ma by 40Ar-39Ar technique. The basalt gave high eNd(t) values of +7.5 and +7.6, suggesting that the primitive magma was derived from depleted asthenospheric mantle with a formation depth of about 65—95 km. Spinel-lherzolite xenoliths have been discovered in the basalt. The Fo values of olivine from the xenoliths range from 88 to 89. The estimated equilibrium P-T conditions of spinel-lherzolite xenoliths are about 2.0 GPa and 1010—1140℃, suggesting an equilibrium depth of about 65 km. Geochemical characteristics of the Late Mesozoic (125—115 Ma) mantle-derived rocks in Shandong Province suggest an enriched lithospheric mantle along the southern margin of the North China block. However, geochemical characteristics of the Late Cretaceous basalts in Daxizhuang and the equilibrium P-T condition estimated from the xenoliths suggest that the lithosphere at 73 Ma ago was as thick as that of the Cenozoic in the region. Additionally, the xenoliths are rich in basaltic-component, suggesting a derivation from a newly-formed lithosphere. Therefor, lithospheric thinning took place at a time interval between about 120 and 73 Ma along the southern margin of the North China block.YAN Jun, CHEN Jiangfeng, XIE Zhi & ZHOU Taixi School of Earth and Space Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei 230026, China 2003Chinese Science Bulletin2003,48,19:59
Geodynamic significance of the A-type granites in the Sawuer region in west Junggar, Xinjiang: Rock geochemistry and SHRIMP zircon age evidence显示文摘Sawuer region is located in west Junggar, Jimunai County of Altay district and Hefeng County of Tacheng district, Xinjiang. The region is along the north margin of Kazakstan-Junggar plate. The intrusions (mainly acid) are widespread. Qiaqihai and Kuoyitasi intrusions are important in the region, with the characteristics of A-type granite. Further investigations indicate that they belong to A2-type granite that formed in extension tectonic setting of post collision. The REE chon-drite-normalized patterns of the intrusions show LREE enrichment and the δ Eu values are lower. The Nd, Sr, Pb isotope compositions of the intrusions indicate a mantle source, while the low δ 18O values resulted from the isotope exchange between intrusion and meteoric water. According to SHRIMP U-Pb age analysis results, the crystallization age of Qiaqihai intrusion is 290.7 ± 9.3 Ma (1σ ), and that of Kuoyitasi intrusion is 297.9 ± 4.6 Ma (1σ ), corresponding to the beginning of early Permian. The A2-type granites indicate that the region was in the extension period of the post-collisional stage at the beginning of early Permian in the Sawuer region. The A-type granites in the Sawuer region in west Junggar discovered from this work is analogous to the A-type granites found in east Junggar of the Ulungur alkali granites belt. The confirmation of post-collisional A-type granites of early Permian in the Sawuer region provides new evidence for the regional vertical continental crust growth in early Per-mian. The former proposed Ulungur alkali granites belt can extend from east Ulungur through west Ulungur and to Zhaisang in Kazakstan westwards.ZHOU Taofa1, YUAN Feng1, TAN Lugui1,2, FAN Yu1 & YUE Shucang1 1. 19Impacts of permafrost changes on alpine ecosystem in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘Alpine cold ecosystem with permafrost environment is quite sensitive to climatic changes and the changes in permafrost can significantly affect the alpine ecosystem. The vegetation coverage, grassland biomass and soil nutrient and texture are selected to indicate the regime of alpine cold ecosystems in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The interactions between alpine ecosystem and permafrost were investigated with the depth of active layer, permafrost thickness and mean annual ground temperature (MAGTs). Based on the statistics model of GPTR for MAGTs and annual air temperatures, an analysis method was developed to analyze the impacts of permafrost changes on the alpine ecosystems. Under the climate change and human engineering activities, the permafrost change and its impacts on alpine ecosystems in the permafrost region between the Kunlun Mountains and the Tanggula Range of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are studied in this paper. The results showed that the per- mafrost changes have a different influence on different alpine ecosystems. With the increase in the thickness of active layer, the vegetation cover and biomass of the alpine cold meadow exhibit a significant conic reduction, the soil organic matter content of the alpine cold meadow ecosystem shows an exponential decrease, and the surface soil materials become coarse and gravelly. The alpine cold steppe ecosystem, however, seems to have a relatively weak relation to the permafrost environment. Those relationships resulted in the fact that the distribution area of alpine cold meadow decreased by 7.98% and alpine cold swamp decreased by 28.11% under the permafrost environment degradation during recent 15 years. In the future 50 years the alpine cold meadow ecosystems in different geomorphologic units may have different responses to the changes of the permafrost under different climate warming conditions, among them the alpine cold meadow and swamp ecosystem located in the low mountain and plateau area will have a relatively serious degradation. Furthermore, from the angles of grassland coverage and biological production the variation characteristics of high-cold eco- systems in different representative regions and different geomorphologic units under different climatic conditions were quantitatively assessed. In the future, adopting effective measures to protect permafrost is of vital importance to maintaining the stability of permafrost engineering and alpine cold eco- systems in the plateau.WANG Genxu1,3 , LI Yuanshou2 , WU Qingbai2 & WANG Yibo3 1. 20Energy balance closure at ChinaFLUX sites显示文摘Network of eddy covariance observation is measuring long-term carbon and water fluxes in contrasting ecosystems and climates. As one important reference of independently evaluating scalar flux estimates from eddy covariance, energy balance closure is used widely in study of carbon and water fluxes. Energy balance closure in ChinaFLUX was evaluated by statistical regression of turbulent energy fluxes (sensible and latent heat) against available energy (net radiation, soil heat flux, canopy heat storage) and the energy balance ratio (EBR) and the frequency distribution of relative errors of energy balance (δ). The trends of diurnal and seasonal variation of energy balance in ChinaFLUX were analyzed. The results indicated that the imbalance was prevalent in all observation sites, but there were little differences among sites because of the properties variation of sites. The imbalance was greater during nocturnal periods than daytime and closure was improved with friction velocity intensifying. Generally the results suggested that estimates of the scalar turbulent fluxes of sensible and latent heat were underestimated and/or that available energy was overestimated. Finally, we discussed certain factors that are contributed to the imbalance of energy, such as systematic errors associated with the sampling mismatch, systematic instrument bias, neglected energy sinks, low and high frequency loss of turbulent fluxes and advection of heat and water vapor.LI Zhengquan, YU Guirui, WEN Xuefa, ZHANG Leiming, REN Chuanyou & FU Yuling Chinese Ecosystem Research Network Synthesis Research Center, Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100039, China 2005Science China Earth Sciences2005,48,z1:50
