1Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare:Review and Prediction Case Studies显示文摘Artificial intelligence(AI)has been developing rapidly in recent years in terms of software algorithms,hardware implementation,and applications in a vast number of areas.In this review,we summarize the latest developments of applications of AI in biomedicine,including disease diagnostics,living assistance,biomedical information processing,and biomedical research.The aim of this review is to keep track of new scientific accomplishments,to understand the availability of technologies,to appreciate the tremendous potential of AI in biomedicine,and to provide researchers in related fields with inspiration.It can be asserted that,just like AI itself,the application of AI in biomedicine is still in its early stage.New progress and breakthroughs will continue to push the frontier and widen the scope of AI application,and fast developments are envisioned in the near future.Two case studies are provided to illustrate the prediction of epileptic seizure occurrences and the filling of a dysfunctional urinary bladder.Guoguang Rong Arnaldo Mendez Elie Bou Assi Bo Zhao Mohamad Sawan 2020Engineering2020,6,3:7
2Effect of wood dust type on mechanical properties, wear behavior, biodegradability, and resistance to natural weathering of wood-plastic composites显示文摘The present work reports the inclusion of different proportions of Mango/Sheesham/Mahogany/Babool dust to polypropylene for improving mechanical,wear behavior and biodegradability of wood-plastic composite(WPC).The wood dust(10%,15%,20%by weight)was mixed with polypropylene granules and WPCs were prepared using an injection molding technique.The mechanical,wear,and morphological characterizations of fabricated WPCs were carried out using standard ASTM methods,pin on disk apparatus,and scanning electron microscopy(SEM),respectively.Further,the biodegradability and resistance to natural weathering of WPCs were evaluated following ASTM D5338-11 and ASTM D1435-99,respectively.The WPCs consisting ofBabool and Sheesham dust were having superior mechanical properties whereas the WPCs consisting of Mango and Mahogany were more wear resistant.It was found that increasing wood powder proportion results in higher Young's modulus,lesser wear rate,and decreased stress at break.The WPCs made of Sheesham dust were least biodegradable.It was noticed that the biodegradability corresponds with resistance to natural weathering;more biodegradable WPCs were having the lesser resistance to natural weathering.Sawan KUMAR Ajitanshu VEDRTNAM S.J.PAWAR 2019Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2019,13,6:3
3Low dose oral curcumin is not effective in induction of remission in mild to moderate ulcerative colitis: Results from a randomized double blind placebo controlled trial显示文摘AIM To evaluate the role of oral curcumin in inducing clinical remission in patients with mild to moderate ulcerative colitis(UC).METHODS A prospective randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial comparing the remission inducing effect of oral curcumin and mesalamine 2.4 g with placebo and mesalamine 2.4 g in patients of ulcerative colitis with mild to moderate severity was conducted from January 2003 to March 2005. The included patients received 1 capsule thrice a day of placebo or curcumin(150 mg) for 8 wk. Patients were evaluated clinically and endoscopically at 0,4 and 8 wk. The primary outcome was clinical remission at 8 wk and secondary outcomes were clinical response, mucosal healing and treatment failure at 8 wk. The primary analysis was intention to treat worst case scenario(ITT-WCS).RESULTS Of 300 patients with UC, 62 patients(curcumin: 29, placebo: 33) fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were randomized at baseline. Of these, 21 patients did not complete the trial, 41 patients(curcumin: 16, placebo: 25) finally completed 8 wk.
